Craig Miller I see you didn’t get a reply from Cosmic Surfer. Let me answer that for you. 2.5 years and the camera is still holding up well. Great battery life. I’ve used it to capture rough waves too at the beach on a windy day with droplets falling on the camera while I’m zooming in and out. I only cleaned it with a cloth. Not recommended to get it wet though. Rest, I’ve used it in all 4 seasons and even during sand storms. Camera is still perfect and looks like new.
Years later I just bought a slightly used P900 as a pre bridge to the maybe P1000 this next spring. I'm already in love with it but have much learning curve to figure it all out. One reason I bought this is it's the last of the P's to carry the GPS tagging ability. They are getting away from it and we do like the ablity to geo-tag many of our photos due to wildlife and wildflora and it can actually prove you took a photo where you said you did. Say you take a seasonal job for plant ID etc. with Forest Service they worry about cheaters and so it's always been an important feature. So I plan to skip over the 950 for this reason and jump to the 1000. But reading a lot of people who have both and many suggest waiting for the next generation in the series. So if it works as well as it appears to do I think I may do that. I have arthritis in my hands and so tripod and weight and grip style and all of that is important to me on personal level. So near about 3 pounds for the 1000 does concern me. For now love this camera and thank you for your share. PS you missed that squirrel running behind you...lol
Anthony Rodemus I tested it yesterday with this camera in Southend England pointing toward landmass on the other side of the coast. It was 17km and for that 12 m should not be visible according to your spherical model of the earth.
Your anecdotal story is insufficient as evidence. What height were you viewing from? How much of the landmass was visible? What height was the visible area? If you tested it with this camera, don't you have photographic evidence?
Anthony Rodemus Mine is not anecdotal. Many people have done it. I was standing at sea level and I am 5 feet 4". What evidence do you have that we live on a globe? Have you tested it yourself?
I have used this camera now for several years for filming birds and it is wonderfull. I just wish Nikon would make a small change so that an external microphone could be attached. For stills I think it is just not good enough. Autofocus is too slow for capturing birds in flight
Waiting for its successor it comes out this year. Not that p900 isn't good, tho I'd like 4k video and better night shots the new one is likely to have these.
I have two P900s and I would never give them up. Even though Nikon doesn't offer a good lens shade for it I know other P900 owners are using third party lens shades. Have you tried using one?
Thanks for the review. P900 is massive. Can you do a review of the B700? Even better... Can you make a review/comparison: A.- 1" Sensor : Lumix FZ 1000 mark 2 - Leica V-Lux Type 114 - Sony RX10 mark IV , Lumix FZ2000/2500 B.- 1/2.3 Sensor : Canon Powershot SX 70 HX, Sony HX400V, Nikon B700, Lumix FZ80/82 ------------------------------------------------ Do you have info on an upgrade of these Cameras : Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ 3000/3500 , Coolpix B800, Sony HX500V, Lumix FX90/92, Leica V-Lux Typ 114? Thanks
Nikon should update the Coolpix B700 to a B800 with features capable to rival Sony RX10 IV, Canon Powershot G3X, Lumix FZ1000 II / Leica V-Lux 5... At least 1" sensor, 20MP, 20/24 - 400/600 mm with constant Max F2.8, 4K with no crop, fully articulated TOUCH-screen, Viewfinder, popup flash, Dials : "Modes Dial, Exposure Compensation Dial, Droive Modes Dial, Multifunction/Command Dials, Lens barrel with Focus ring and/or aperture ring, GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth... A real Bridge/Superzoom for Hybrid users (Stills+Videos)... Z6 body or D5600 like-body could be a great thing for a such bridge... Nikon should check all features offered by the other rivals (the 1" sensor group above) and release a great Bridge... A Bridge Camera is indeed a perfect option with DSLR-Like settings to people who want to jump slowly in photography. I encourage my friends to look at the Bridges on the market. My first camera was a bridge and moving to a DSLR was different but not really too challenging because of lessons really learned using a Bridge. I think Nikon should really bring a Bridge capable to rival other 1" sensor on the market (RX10, FZ1000-2, V-Lux5, G3X) ... A body like the Z6 could interesting ... But Nikon should not bring too much cameras to avoid the "DL Series" trouble... (Canon has already a lot of options in their Powershot series)... One good great bridge camera is enough... One great Coolpix for Hybrid users(Stills and Videos) ...
I have this camera but I like to use it mainly for videos and the sound is very poor. When filming with a lot of sound around me like at my son's graduation ceremony, it sounds like its underwater. I'm very disappointed in that. Does anyone have any suggestions? It might have to do with the zoom mic. I may turn it off and see what happens.
Watching this review from nearly two years ago and I had to laugh! Just as the guy is explaining all the nice features of the P900, a squirrel runs out behind him! lol
Great vid. just purchased this camera and I was wondering if you can use a external monitor that would give you live view when shooting video .Thanks in advance.
Its a surprisingly good video camera. Image stabilization, quick auto focus, full articulating flip out screen, good low light capability, and manual focus. Not to mention the super zoom party piece. As a stills camera, its average. And shooting at anything other than auto won't work. Max iso: 400.
then why on nikons site does it state: ISO sensitivity - AUTO, 100 - 6400 - Extendable to ISO Hi 1 (equivalent to ISO 12800) ?? or is there a reason that it only goes to 400 on other modes ?
More Zoom? • 24-2000mm 35mm Equivalent Focal Length • 83x Optical Zoom NIKKOR Super ED VR Lens • This is the longest zoom lens offered in a point and shoot bridge camera today. >Mark
hey, thank you for the video, great pictures. I want to buy a bridge camera, but can't make a decision . I have 2 cameras in mind, both seems to be very good. 1- the Panasonic fz300 . 2- Nikon p900. from reviews that I saw , they say that besides the zoom the p900 is not even a match for the fz300, in terms of features and image and video quality. me, being an average consumer, don't understand much about it, but it really seems that the fz300 is a really good camera. does the Nikon has to offer more then just a crazy zoom?comparing both which one you think is the better choice. again ,I am just an average consumer that can appreciate good quality and great "saved" moments. can you give me some advice . thank you
Thanks for checking out the video! Going with the Nikon P900 over the Panasonic FZ300 will give you a much longer zoom range, higher resolution, and great flash range from its pop flash. Going with the FZ300 would give you better battery life, weather sealing, an external microphone port for video work, a higher video resolution, a touch screen, an external hotshoe for Panasonic compatible shoe mount flashes and a faster continuous shooting rate. It really comes down to which features are most important to you based on what you’re shooting.
Hi hepnoo dxb, we shoot on the Canon C300 with either a 24-70mm or 70-200mm lens. For audio we use the Sennheiser AVX wireless systems when we shoot in the field. Thanks for the question and checking out our videos!
That would depend on your usage needs, and on the final output/usage of the images you take. While I do not consider the Nikon COOLPIX P900 Digital Camera a professional camera, there are people who are using smaller cameras such as the newer iPhone and Samsung Galaxy smartphones for their professional work, even if the images are only to be used online on sites like Instagram or Flickr or for blog websites. Whether it can be used as a professional camera will depend on if the camera has the features and performance you need for your planned photography usage, and if the image quality is suitable for your usage.
The best one for you depends on your needs. If you need a longer zoom range, RAW file capability for stills and are shooting 4K, the P1000 is a much better option.
Unfortunately, the Nikon P900 doesn't offer an external microphone port. If you prefer to have this feature, the Nikon COOLPIX P1000 Digital Camera , B&H # NICPP1000 does offer this feature. The Rode Stereo VideoMic X, B&H # ROSVMX would be an excellent choice for it. bhpho.to/2wR5ojA bhpho.to/3bdCTeK
Not sure what would be considered "normal usage" Vaishak. If you are looking for a great camera that is easy to use and offers a tremendous optical zoom range, then the P900 is a fine choice and a terrific value. if you desire a DSLR so that you have access to hundreds of interchangeable lenses, then the Nikon D3400 may be the way to go . >Mark
The Nikon Coolpix P900 is a bridge camera, giving you the weight/feel of a DSLR, but with a long zoom lens and ease of use of a point and shoot camera.
16 MP fastest shutter speed 1/400, 83x (2000mm equivalent) optical zoom, 300 shots per battery charge , 7 fps burst rate at full resolution, 18 scene modes including timelapse, bird-watching, easy panorama and moon shot, GPS, etc. Cons: 1) Most glaring flaw with this lens is how much flare it suffers from because there is no lens hood and the front element is not recessed. 2) Macro for photos from 1.5 cm, the image edges are blurry. 3) JPEG format(no RAW available) 4) Long shutter lag and lazy zoom speed is a real drag. This doesn’t do well for quick-moving subjects, hence for moving sports or moving wildlife.
I bought mine off eBay for 450. It's been a good camera so far, it seems best for photographing birds. If you can't find one, I might consider parting with mine. Just let me know.
The idea of this camera is great but in real life the image quality is just average and the shake at full zoom is crazy. In limited applications (bird watching with tripod) it can be fun but as a walk around P&S there are just too many better options out there...
Big squirrel! Oh, the cons sensor is small, CANT snap anything that moves, bad ISO way to grainy at night, wifi figure that one out, mic and EVF sucks squirrel. Pros, everything else for the price.
This is the best camera on flat earth. Although if you are on a budget and are going to carry around for more common uses you may want to consider the P600 at half the price and size, but still a powerful globebusting 60x zoom.
I have to disagree. if its important enough to take a picture of something, and especially since any shot is a one time only shot, then its important for me to take the best camera I have...and the lenses. camera bags just arent that big an issue, especially with the side access of todays back back style bags. thats why I never take a picture with my cell phone. its just another way of my saying its really not important, so why would i bother.
Love my P900 never regretted buying it - great camera to take on a cruise
The best cam I have ever owned and I have owned a few since the film days.
Craig Miller I see you didn’t get a reply from Cosmic Surfer. Let me answer that for you. 2.5 years and the camera is still holding up well. Great battery life. Not recommended to get it wet though. Rest, I’ve used it in all 4 seasons and even during sand storms. Camera is still perfect and looks like new.
Its 2023 and I still use it!!!!
The zoom on the lens, can be used for manual focus too 😉

It says it's still relevant today but the post is 7yrs ago , i use a P900 and love it .
It is super relevant. It has allowed many people to confirm whether or not the earth has a curvature or not.
No it hasn't. Your delusion is doing that.
Anthony Rodemus I tested it yesterday with this camera in Southend England pointing toward landmass on the other side of the coast. It was 17km and for that 12 m should not be visible according to your spherical model of the earth.

Anthony Rodemus Subscribe to my channel. I will be uploading later.
I still enjoy the P900 in 21"!
I have used this camera now for several years for filming birds and it is wonderfull. I just wish Nikon would make a small change so that an external microphone could be attached. For stills I think it is just not good enough. Autofocus is too slow for capturing birds in flight
I would recommend to always capture sound from an external recorder. You always get better sound that way.
P900 is the zoom king period.
Waiting for its successor it comes out this year. Not that p900 isn't good, tho I'd like 4k video and better night shots the new one is likely to have these.
any idea when the new one comes out?
I love this camera

At first I didn't see the squirrel until I read the reviews and then went back to see it, thanks guys.
Will the zoom strip get damaged!!!
Thanks for the review.
P900 is massive.
Can you do a review of the B700?
Even better...
Can you make a review/comparison:
A.- 1" Sensor : Lumix FZ 1000 mark 2 - Leica V-Lux Type 114 - Sony RX10 mark IV
, Lumix FZ2000/2500
B.- 1/2.3 Sensor : Canon Powershot SX 70 HX, Sony HX400V, Nikon B700, Lumix FZ80/82

Do you have info on an upgrade of these Cameras : Panasonic Lumix DMC FZ 3000/3500
, Coolpix B800, Sony HX500V, Lumix FX90/92, Leica V-Lux Typ 114?
Thanks
With what camera did you record this video?
i love this camera
Hi plz suggest should we go for B700 or P900
Nikon should update the Coolpix B700 to a B800 with features capable to rival Sony RX10 IV, Canon Powershot G3X, Lumix FZ1000 II / Leica V-Lux 5...

you can always record sound with external mic and sync it in premiere.
Gumper Van Lier There is a RUclips video of someone modifying the part where the microphones sit to take a mic input.
Best Review of this camera I have seen
Watching this review from nearly two years ago and I had to laugh! Just as the guy is explaining all the nice features of the P900, a squirrel runs out behind him! lol
Great vid. just purchased this camera and I was wondering if you can use a external monitor that would give you live view when shooting video .Thanks in advance.
Unfortunately, the HDMI port on the P900 only allows for image playback rather than a connection to mirror the rear LCD when shooting images/video.
You talking about this like it's old. None else yet to break its record
Its a surprisingly good video camera. Image stabilization, quick auto focus, full articulating flip out screen, good low light capability, and manual focus. Not to mention the super zoom party piece. As a stills camera, its average. And shooting at anything other than auto won't work. Max iso: 400.

I believe he meant that using any ISO setting higher than 400 would create too much noise.
Is it still worth buying now?
I just came up on this camera and interested but see it's a few years old. Is there another camera with more zoom?
More Zoom?
• 24-2000mm 35mm Equivalent Focal Length
• 83x Optical Zoom NIKKOR Super ED VR Lens
•
This is the longest zoom lens offered in a point and shoot bridge camera today. >Mark
Lionel G the p700 has a lot of zoom and 4k, as does the panasonic z82, but nothing beats this thing in terms of reach.
hey, thank you for the video, great pictures. I want to buy a bridge camera, but can't make a decision . thank you so much for your time and knowledge
what camera and mic you use for this video ?
Hi hepnoo dxb, we shoot on the Canon C300 with either a 24-70mm or 70-200mm lens. For audio we use the Sennheiser AVX wireless systems when we shoot in the field.
Thanks for the question and checking out our videos!
B and H thanks for the answer
Can it use for professional photography
That would depend on your usage needs, and on the final output/usage of the images you take. I just bought it jesterday!cant wait for sunny weather.lp
Does it shoot raw like the canon equivalent?
sadly it doesnt
can u help me which one is better p900 or b700
Green Minded p900
I m confused between 900and1000
Please suggests me best
The best one for you depends on your needs. If you need a longer zoom range, RAW file capability for stills and are shooting 4K, the P1000 is a much better option.
Claro que me gustan sus videos......Muy encantador y explica todo muy bien.
Thank you for sharing......I love all your video......♡♡
Is this camera good to buy?

Is nikon p900 worth buying in for a normal usage . Is there any alternative? D3400?
I think its worth it if you shoot a lot of wildlife personally, I do. If I didn't I wouldn't get it.
>Mark
It is super-relevant. And not just for the flat-earthed idiots. It's relevant for the everday consumer! Amazing camera.
The word idiot there reveals aggression maybe because you feel under threat.
Love the mountie hat on Abe.....Where was that @???
Hiiii....this Coolpix p900 is a DSLR camera?
nope.
The Nikon Coolpix P900 is a bridge camera, giving you the weight/feel of a DSLR, but with a long zoom lens and ease of use of a point and shoot camera.
Nice Review man
Ok you convince me I go buy one
A great video, I have it too
Well bring repaired by nikon atm
Just froze on me and only had a black screen

2:06 SQUIRREL!!!
stekks yeah, saw it! Lol
I've recently got one of these cameras and I love it!
best comment
Love it
Still relevent?? its only 3 years old how long does it take for a camera to become irrelevant? Only a year??
2:05 Squirrel!
cool guy! very nice video
This camera is the biggest bang for your buck.
It's relevant because it's fun...........
"still" relevant ? I think of it as a new camera LOL
How fast do cameras expire ???? !!!!
I bought one for $450
Craig Conway where at? Im looking into getting one myself soon.
Great price!
I bought mine off eBay for 450. It's been a good camera so far, it seems best for photographing birds. If you can't find one, I might consider parting with mine. Just let me know.
For all of us ADHD people... squirrel @ 02:05 ! 😀
great
Man you are a great photographer I hope to surpass you I watched all your reviews
with which camera did u shot this review?? lol
Built in wifi?
Yes, the Nikon P900 has built in Wi-Fi.
Kristiano Chupacabra yes
the earth looks flat cause your looking at it at a small spot. use a large ball and look at its surface head on on the top and it;ll be flat.
stop explaining them.....its useless.
The idea of this camera is great but in real life the image quality is just average and the shake at full zoom is crazy. In limited applications (bird watching with tripod) it can be fun but as a walk around P&S there are just too many better options out there...
cant focus manuely with the side toggle switch
You can manually focus by using the multi-functional dial in the back of the camera as well.
It will stay relevant until someone comes close to it and is loaded with features.
So, no mention of why it's "still relevant today"?
he's attractive!
"Flat" "Globebusting" make up ur mind
2023 ?

just a get a rx100m4
Why? It doesn't even compare... not in the slightest. Are you a Sony employee?
Umm, no, you rx100 m4, doesn't have 2000mm zoom, I can actually shoot wildlife with the p900.
I got rx10m4 but I sole two month later. photo is not quite good . poor low light efficiency.
But keep in mind its poor 16M pixels and poor low light efficiency.
