I took on what I consider to be a very ambitious project for my first attempt. I used a very large art deco inspired lamp base to make design elements to be added to furniture. Because of your video - I had no learning curve and the results were fantastic. Adding the layers of gauze was just priceless and gave the perfect stability to the larger mold.
Oh yeah! We love to hear that! We'd love for you to share it in our Facebook group so we can all see it. This is the link if you'd like to join: facebook.com/groups/resincraftingwitheti
My parents have bought me a pretty hearty canister of this stuff; perfect for my lifelong dream, of replicating my favorite molds of littlest pet shop toy to paint over myself, and when I get more advanced, I will try and replicate the gearset and facial features (Upper and lower beak-halves, tongue, eye-whites and eyelids) of a 1998 furby! Hopefully we'll have the supplies to work this out at home! I'd love to try my hand at this!!!! 😄
Do i need to put anything in the mold before i put concrete like to keep the concrete from damaging the inside? Will the mold absorb water? When water touches my mold it turns very pale like its absorbing water.
Thanks for the video - I just bought one of these for the first time, and it has clearly been opened before I got It because it is chunky and not at all easy to spread. Do you know what can be added to the mixture to make it more fluid again? Maybe ammonia based household cleaner?
Thanks for the video, iam planning to create an mold but I wanted to create an mold of my concrete statue that I have can you let me know if the mould builder latex will stick to my concrete statue or do I need to apply any release spray before I start brushing the latex to my concrete figure
Yes, you can use Mold Builder for your piece. Just make sure the clay is dry and sealed. You can dust with talc to prevent mold from sticking to itself when you remove it. You'll know the rubber is dry when all traces of white are gone.
Hello. I want to cast some liquid latex. Is this a suitable product to use to make the mold? Or will the liquid latex stick itself to the mold when curing?
We're so sorry for the long delay in responding! We haven't had access to our account for over a year. It is recommended to cast liquid latex into a plaster mold. Latex can adhere to latex.
May you please tell me where you got the plastic that you heat shrunk around the rubber mold. What is the brand/type? I will Amazon it. Thanks in advance

I trying to start s new hobby, purchase a lot of plaster molds, after review several youtube unable to used plaster in a plaster molds, my question is can I create or build a silicone mold from the plaster molds I already purchase.
Yes Mold builder can be used for this application, Plaster must be sealed first, seal plaster with several layers of varnish, then two layers of paste wax; polish off excess wax.
I'm using Mold Builder to make a mold of a frog made of one of the "wonder" compositions China puts out. Sprayed the frog with clear enamel (as I did with a couple of other items I couldn't determine the composition of) . Twice now I have applied a very thin 1st coat to the frog & let it cure completey (for hours!). When I start on the 2nd coat, the first coat dissolves (?) & breaks into stretchy threads. What am I doing wrong?
We're so sorry for the long delay in responding! We haven't had access to our account for over a year. We recommend applying layers every 45 minutes to 1 hour,(when the rubber appears transparent) after 12 hours you can experience adhesion issues with the next layer.(will adhere, however easily peel away)
Hi, if the cast item is not intended to be eaten then you could use a mold made with Mold Builder. However, we don't recommend using latex molds for items that are to be consumed. We would recommend our food safe EasyMold silicone rubber products.
Hi, Mold Builder isn't suitable for pouring thick layers. If it is too thick it will be difficult for it to cure out. If you want to build layers quicker after applying your initial coats you can layer gauze or cheesecloth with each brushed on layer of Mold Builder. This will add bulk and strength to the mold.
Yes, you could use thermoplastic sheets as a mold or mold support. It would make the perfect mold backer for a blanket mold made with Mold Builder. If using thermoplastic as a mold you'll want to avoid casting products which generate excessive heat while curing and may distort the mold.
Hi, if you're looking for ready made silicone molds rather than mold making material to make your own we'd suggest doing a Google search for "silicone bangle molds".
Hi, latex would not be our first choice for fiberglass work. We would recommend EasyMold Liquid Silicone or Putty over latex. You can use latex, however. Keep in mind with latex it's possible that moisture gets trapped within the mold. This could affect the surface of your casting making it sticky. Also, you'll want to use a good mold release with latex or the casting may not separate from the mold. A release is not needed with silicone and moisture would not be an issue.

Hi, I would like to estimate the surface density of Mold Builder, i.e. how many mililiters or grams per unit of area (square cm or square inch), for 10-12 layers, in order to calculate the total amount of product needed. Is there anyone who knows this value or who could do such a test? Thank you!
You really can't approach this from such a rigid formula. It's more subjective than that. Build up your mold using your judgment and not a formula. I ended up using 15 layers on my mold. Plus, I added the gauze to the last two layers of the mold to get the end result I was looking for. What I built from was somewhat larger and I plan to re-use my mold numerous time and wanted it to be extra sturdy. Point being, if I had stopped at "x" number of layers based on some formula - the result would have been different. I had to use my judgment when it was "done" or not. The object I molded was the face of a lamp base. It had sharp ridges and v-shaped troughs which took the mold builder differently. I needed the end product to retain those crisp lines - so I had to start my mold build with that in mind. If you're trying to calculate so you don't buy more than you need to begin with just remember you can always return that extra jar you don't use. Think of it as more of a right brained than left brained undertaking.
If you’re making a mold for an outdoor statue that is about 12” x 12”... how would you make a support shell? Would you form it around the bottom and 4 sides? Or would I need a support shell at all? ... very informative video. Thanks for posting! 😀
The only paint compatible with Mold Builder is acrylic paints. A small amount of acrylic paint can be added to Mold Builder while it is liquid to tint the product prior to application. Painting acrylic paints onto a cured Mold Builder surface does not generally work, as the paint can eventually fall off. Your best bet is to color liquid Mold Builder with acrylic paint when making your mold.
Mold Builder has a 1 year shelf life if it is unopened. If exposed to air it can begin to cure. Keep it sealed up well and it can last longer than a year.
Great tutorial I actually went to Hobby Lobby yesterday to get the usual "Amazing Brand" silicone kit here www.hobbylobby.com/Crafts-Hobbies/Clay-Molding-Sculpting/Casting/Amazing-Mold-Rubber-Kit/p/20504 that I've always used for my resin creations it's the kit that comes in the pink box & is a 2 part system & ive always had great results with it but they were sold out of it so I picked this up & was trying to see if I could use this product to make a full figure mold like I do with the other I normally use by putting my sculpture or figure into a cup or plastic box & pour the silicone over top & allow to set then cut the figure out & have a mild to use over & over. Is that possible with this brand or is this strictly a 2D brush on silicone mold maker?
Hi, Mold Builder is designed to be brushed on in thin layers. Applying it too thick will inhibit it from fully curing. You can build thicker layers after your initial few layers by applying gauze to help build bulk.

Amazing video! Ty ty ty!
Once the mold is cured can I pour resin in it to make my item from the mold?
Absolutely!
Where can I get that thermoplastic? I've never heard of it, and can't find it. Thanks. ❤
It's called HeatForm and it has been discontinued but you can still find it on Amazon sometimes.

A small amount (5-10%) roughly half a teaspoon of cold water may be added to try and loosen the mixture.

Ok so would it be safe to use this on a tiny clay figure I made? And how long should it take to dry?
Edit: where do I get the powder to dust it with?
Yes, you can use Mold Builder for your piece. Just make sure the clay is dry and sealed. You can dust with talc to prevent mold from sticking to itself when you remove it. You'll know the rubber is dry when all traces of white are gone.

Can I use this product just for the mold/resin to create the product because I already have the shape I would like to pour the liquid into?

What can I use for the shell? Please I need to know
Heat foam

Hi, a glue gun could be used in place of the modeling clay to fix the model to it's base before applying Mold Builder.
I think you read that wrong. It says that you CAN use it on all of those thing you said you can ruse it on
I know this has been asked but, can I fill the mold with a silicone rubber?

Can I use this product to make a mold from a cardboard and paper master? Thanks.
Yes, but you'll want to seal the cardboard/paper model with a spray sealer so that the mold will release after application of the Mold Builder.
