Honestly it's always been a tongue-in-cheek joke in EN anyways. But it's probably become the preferred polite euphemism anyways just because of habit. If it weren't for the joke they'd probably just say bathroom/restroom/washroom when trying to be polite. Keyword here being when _trying._ Mostly nobody cares.

I don't think Gura ever used the term.
In fact, for someone who mentions "pee" at least once per stream, she's only really taken like 3 bathroom breaks mid-stream throughout her entire time in Hololive. At least that we know of. She generally never pauses her stream for any reason, much less often for a bathroom break.
It happens so infrequently that it tends to jumpscare people when it happens.
