  • In this video you can find out HOW TO MAGNETISE the new Field Ordnance Battery for the Astra Militarum. I hope you find this video useful, please let me know your thoughts in the comments!
The new Field Ordnance Battery for the Imperial Guard is an awesome kit and comes with enough options to make two of each weapon - the Bombast Field Gun, the Heavy Lascannon and the Malleus Rocket launcher. I've used 3mm x 1mm rare earth magnets to make all the weapons swappable, but you can also use 2mm x 1mm magnets too.
I haven't built the crew yet as I'm hoping for new plastic Catachan Jungle Fighters, but I might build them at some point.
Sorry this video is a bit rough and ready, it was a case of just hitting record and then talking through it. If you did enjoy it, please let me know by giving it a like, and if you really really liked it, maybe subscribe too?
    Thanks for watching as always!

Hope this is useful. Just need some new crew now other than Cadians. Fingers crossed!

Never would have thought to stack the magnets using the stack as a ram rod to glue the bottom one in place. The level of anxiety from having to double or triple check my polarity while smashing a magnet into a hole and hoping I didn't mess it up was huge and is completely unneeded, your 5 second tip is much appreciated!

Glad I could help - I find magnets stressful so decided to do a guide after struggling to find one. I had a magnet go pinging off an arm joint the other day and I still haven’t found it 😂

I glued a magnet to an infantry base and use it as a polarity gauge. It has helped me immeasurably

one helpful hint. Take a VERY thin drill bit and screw upwards through the axel, (theres two small rectangle holds you can use). Then drill Downwards with the bigger drill bit. Helped me do it!

Thank you. This is exactly what I need. I'm gonna build my ordinance now. Wish me luck.

Would add, the shield for the rocket pod can totally be glued on via the reverser side of the little lense-gubbins onto the central column of the rocket pod unit. Means you can pop it on and off with even less fiddling.

Great video I just came over from a video that says you can't magnetize these. The solution now seems so obvious when you look at it in hindsight.

Thank you for this tutorial. I have been holding off on doing mine until I found a good way to do it. You’ve given me the confidence on doing it pro and cleanly.
Also, if I was worried about seeing the magnets- would black primer conceal it?

    • @hobbywaffle

Yes primer and a base coat would hide the shine of the magnets, and they should only be visible if you look under the rocket pods, as the ones under the side brackets for the field gun and lascannon should be hidden. Hope this helps, let me know if you have any other questions and I’ll do my best to help 👍

Just curious, with the gun brackets for the lascannon and cannon: Are they removable so you can switch between barrels and if so are you just using the friction to hold them in place?

    • @hobbywaffle

Do you mean the side brackets that the barrels pivot on, or the front shield? The side brackets are just held with friction yes, plus that way you get to alter the elevation of the barrel too. The front shield ls are also just held on with friction although it’s not ideal.

How about the bases and the Miniatures that belong the a certain gun. I finished my subassemblies and now I'm not sure if it's really possible to make it all switchable. Is there any advice you can give me? is it maybe possible to magnetize all Gunners and try to position them on the same locations for all guns? I'm just beginning with this Hobby so i have no clue.

You could use a small pin to mount the crew members on - luckily you get enough parts to make separate seated gunners, and they can be sat in place without glue. For the rest of the crews, you can actually make most of it - the only choices are the the guy carrying large shell, he can be built differently, and the kneeling crew member has two arms options. I think the only other choice is what you want inside the open crate. You don’t have to glue the contents inside the crate, just glue the missiles and the mortars as per the instructions, and then place them in if you want to change them each time. Hope this helps!

@@hobbywaffle Thank you so much for the answer! This helped a lot. Maybe i'll have to just play around with the Loader then. I wasn't planning on using the Rocketlauncher anyway, so i guess Las-Cannon and Artillery will do. Thanks for the help.

If your a new player to Astra militarum there is no need to magnetize your field batteries. You'll wind up buying 3 combat patrols minimum. Just build 2 of each batteries and call it a day.

If I do buy more Guard, I don’t think I’d magnetise them. I’m still waiting to see what else is coming for AM before picking them back up again
