Thank Mike, you nailed this effect in 3 minutes... I have seen 10 minutes videos that were way more complicated... Your video was quick, simple, and easy... You Rock!
Thanks! I do not have a tutorial about reversing the Shatter Effect, but I might try splitting the layer (Shift +Cmd+D) and Time Reversing the layer and then keyframe the properties on Shatter Effect such as Force and try to get an animation you like. 👍🍀
Thank you for the tutorial but when I do it, I 100% followed the video and even turned the bolt too Off (final quality) and the clip just turns black. Nothing is showing up and i’ve done it multiple times. Do you know the problem?
Did you move the playhead forward down the timeline to confirm that nothing was happening? Do you have the View set to 'Rendered'? So that I can try to replicate the issue you are having, what type of layer did you apply the Shatter Effect on? Things to try: Place PlayHead at the very beginning of your Timeline and add the Shatter Effect on another layer such as Text or Shape to try and determine if the issue is with the current layer you are trying it on. 🍀
If you duplicate the layer and right-click (or go to Layer Menu...Time) and select 'Time Reverse Layer' that should give you the forward shatter on one layer and the reverse will animate after. You can also try getting more control by keyframing the Radius keyframes and using 'Time Reverse Layer'. It may take some playing around to get it exactly how you want it, but that is where I would start. 🍀
Create the shatter you want and then select and copy/paste the keyframes. Select keyframes…right-click and the Keyframe Assistant…Time Reverse Keyframes and see if that gives you what you want. 👍🍀
Hi Mike, Im using CC23 version but I can't seem to get the keyframe right. I tried to use the Radius and move the keyframe to 2 seconds but the text still shatters at the beginning of the playhead. What am i doing wrong?! I want the text to sit for 2 seconds and then shatter but I can't seem to make that happen.
You need to set at least 2 keyframes for Radius. The first where you want it to start and then drag CTI forward in time and adjust radius to add 2nd keyframe. Then select both keyframes and move them where you want the text to start shattering. 👍
The image vanishes immediately after dropping on the shutter effect.. any thoughts on that? Only see the graph lines and transparency grid no matter which "View" option I select..
@@ismail-_ Maybe try Pre-composing the clip and see if that helps. What type of clip are you applying the effect on? Can you test it on another layer or bring in another obljet/graphic to test and try to isolate the issue?
@@Julvoids Follow all the steps in the tutorial and it should work for you. After adding the effect, drag the playhead forward in time and you should see the animation. 👍
First check in the Shatter Effect Controls that the 'Camera System' under Textures is set to 'Camera Position' Also, under the Composition Window, look for a little lightning bolt icon (Fast Previews) and make sure that is set to 'Off (Final Quality)' 🍀

You are the one who best describes the "shatter effect" among the videos I have watched so far. Congratulations.
I really appreciate that and so glad it helped you! 👍👍

awesome vid, i have a question though i want this effect but in reverse so its all coming back to together how would you do this?>
Select keyframes and right-click and look for Time Reverse. 👍🍀
@@MikeMurphyCo ahh such a simple solution that evaded me thanks
Radius doesn't move the start, the shatter always happens at the beginning of my clip. Any idea?

Is there a way to shatter in reverse, as to "build" an image from pieces?
Create the shatter you want and then select and copy/paste the keyframes. Select keyframes…right-click and the Keyframe Assistant…Time Reverse Keyframes and see if that gives you what you want. 👍🍀

Will shatter work as 3D when i use camera or will it appear as a 2D layer unlike 3D stuff like trapcode particular or form
I’ve not tested that before but let me know how you make out after you try it out 🍀🍀
How do I increase the length of this effect?
