Artists often do their best work at that age... They have fresh ideas, more energy, more creative potential, a mind that's willing to learn and isn't being corrupted by sickness, criticism, and age...
Soules music is a perfect example of that. I wish more people would credit his brother too. He helped him a lot.

One of the best and most underrated games on SNES. Better than Secret of Mana in my opinion. The soundtrack of this game is a huge draw for me because it really makes me feel sucked into the world that was created.

I liked it much more than mana. Mana has the coop thing going for it but that's about the only plus I can give to mana. Also think mana is more challenging so there is that too... But that's about it.
In my honest feelings evermore looks better, has better music, has a better story, has a better world, better characters, pretty much better everything. It's also relatable far more so than secret of mana. Mana takes place in a totally fictional world where I can't put myself into the shoes of our hero hardly at all. It's too whacked out. Which isn't a bad thing but relatability is nice. And with evermore you really do get to feel like a stupid kid getting sucked into another world mighty max style lol. Game can be funner when looked at it in that respect. Also a toaster dog that shoots lasers clearly makes it the best game ever created lololol.
It's soules first game ost too which is amazing. Often do the greatest of composers make their best work when they are young and want to show the world what they are made out of. He clearly didn't disappoint. Sadly this game is sort of ignored compared to rpgs of the snes days such as trigger, ff3/6, mario rpg, and secret of mana.
Evermore came out towards the end days of the snes and folks sort of looked at it as discount rip off secret of mana when in reality it's more like this... I will give a few examples...
      Wolfenstien 1 and doom 1
Ocarina of time and majoras mask
Golden eye 64 and perfect dark 64
Very similar games running on very similar engines with very similar feels to the game play BUT clear and subtle details make their obviousness once you give them a change and boy oh boy do they make for awesome games. How can more of a great thing be totally bad? It can't. It's mostly good which is what these kinds of games deliver : )
And they are different enough to ignore the rip off label. They are different enough to warrant a try. Games that are rip offs of other games would be like...
Candy crush being basically micro transaction tetris.
Angry birds basically being a rip off of crush the castle.
      pong vs table tennis
      Farm ville vs farm town
pacman and mrs pacman (obvious one lol)
      guitar hero and guitar freaks.
If you want to call evermore a rip off of secret of mana. Fine I guess but that's rather insulting and kind of inappropriate when those examples I just listed exist. If you're going to give evermore or terranigma flack on something like this... You better be bitching wayyy more about those games I just mentioned lol. Especially the wallet rape ones. Heck... Even battle royale multiplayer online only type games are going the route of ultimately being rip offs of each other...

Agreed. Just like secret of manas remake except one thing they have to do diff... Manas remake had a very anime childish looking vibe to the visuals.
I would prefer evermore to have a darker and slightly more realistic look to the visuals. I don't want to feel like I'm playing as a 4 year old boy lol. Pretty sure the evermore kid was a young teen at least... Over 10 at least. He was going to a theater that allowed dogs without a parent after all lol.

Seriously though you can't say one is better than the other. They are both good/bad in different ways. Mostly good though lol. It's like comparing a car to a truck.
Car's are cheaper, faster, and they are easier to maneuver.
Trucks can haul big shit, drive on hard terrain, and you're less likely to die or get hurt if you get into a collision.
It's apples and oranges... Not poop and dohnuts lol.

One of the best and original aspects of this game is the alchemy system. Absolute pure genius! When I was a kid, I always thought of what 2 ingredients you could mix in reallife to get a similar effect. Example: root + water = heal (plants recover and grow); wax + oil = flash (cover wax with oil, light and toss at someone you dislike); crystal + clay = hardball (stick crystal in a mould of clay and aim at someone's face). SoE just doesnt get enough credit (maybe exchanging to talons might help!)

Beautiful stuff, one of the only square games that I really really love. Never been of a fan of jrpg style games because they usually come off as forced emotion. Secret of Evermore is just different I guess, I love the music and the artwork involved and how it's not edgy or anything like that.

+A most excellent dude who is totally not bogus! I actually really liked Xenogears, Chrono Trigger, and FF6 for how much humor they all had, despite having very deep stories. I consider those three the best of both worlds.

This is one of those games where the story gets pushed aside by the characters and atmosphere. Half way through you're just wondering, "who the heck am I going to meet next?". "What's my dog going to turn into next?" "How can the next area top this bizarre place?"
People always call popular SNES games "underrated", so I hate using an over-used term. This game really is within the definition though. For some reason, people seem to overlook it as a false Secret of Mana sequel. It was never trying to be a sequel. It just has the same combat style and menu. That's it.
My only complaint about Secret of Evermore is that it is too short. Reaching the end brings me down a bit. Could have used at least one more area before the final level. Maybe not though, hard to say.

I loved the game, I wanted it when it was displayed in store, got it for birthday. I always kept it as one of my biggest favorites. But I never saw it as a sequel to Mana, because I never played SoM. I guess alot of people had the expecation it was supposed to be a Mana sequel and was dissapointed, but never took it for what it was. I loved it, it was such a unique experience, especially the music that created a very special atmosphere when playing.

I have such fond memories of this game. Was never able to beat it as a child because my cartridge froze in the white tower, but recently I found another copy and beat it. The game is a gem, although I wish it was a bit more difficult and harder to buff your spells. There were a lot of bugs in it as well, it deserved a lot more tlc than it got. Also would have loved a 2 player option a la Secret of Mana.
I highly doubt Nintendo would rehash it for the VC, but that would be all sorts of awesome.

That's because Chrono Trigger is highly regarded and SoE isn't. Are we even sure if SE holds the rights to this game any more? Did they let them expire? We need to dig deeper. a Sequel is very easy if that's the case. I'd love to see multiple teams from across the globe attempt a sequel and let the internet decide which one would be true. I'd also love to see Jeremy Soule contribute during his downtime. It would be a dream come true. I would hope if a sequel does happen one day, that they keep the integrity of the original, at it's core.
