Sam, I worked for Audi here in Canada for a while. The star button on the steering wheel you can set for a bunch of different things. As a source button, heated steering wheel, and such. Should help with the issues inside!

My order which deposited on Feb 2022 is now finally in production 7th week of 2023. I am just curious what would happen when I pick up the car? Would they charge me extra than the final amount on the order form? Is it worthy to buy extra warranty and maintainance like Audi care?

I tried both the RS6 and the M5 Competition before buying, the M5 felt (and is faster), better interior IMO (not all touch screens) and importantly feels like an event every time you get in, the RS6, just like you said just felt a bit bland to drive (but looks great).

Not everything is perfect and i suspect if i was to purchase a car of that value, i wouldnt want to sour the moment by not mentioning certain things that might grind my gears.
I think it continues to speak to your humility (lennys posh comments to one side) about buying and running your cars. But also all the cars you come across in your path. I tend to find your reviews quiet "real", a weird phrase to use on the internet. But you do it in an elegant way.

Most ballistic experience I've ever had. The car accelerates with such ferocity that it feels like it's doing a wheelie, entire front end lifts and your facing the sky while being catapulted down the road. Strongly recommend the custom tuning otherwise your missing out on much of the car's potential.

Least not for someone who doesn’t necessarily have the stomach to keep it fuelled up and drive it in anger. I’m sure Sam has worked out the economics of such a juicy and expensive daily but I can’t help but think these things defeat the purpose of a daily. I suppose if you have enough money your daily can be whatever but for me, I wanna get where I’m going comfortably, with decent pace, that isn’t going to break the bank and I’m not terrified to park it anywhere or drive down a narrow road. However, the "numbness" of the car could be fixed by a simple tune which will wake the car up. Also, a tune makes the car much more efficient and hence it will help with the fuel economy partly, but most importantly it will make the car a bit more lively and punchy. Hell, yesss. 2150 Kg empty… but that’s due to armour plating. After all it’s a German Autobahn tank, right? Thirsty? Of course! The baby runs a detuned Lamborghini Urus engine…
The S6 Avant with its brilliant V6 Diesel would be a more sensible choice. It’s frugal, still powerful enough and after all the V6 Diesel is a Le Mans winner.
And yes, the Audi cockpit gets fussy, overloaded with info you do not really need for your daily commuting… touchscreens are in fashion but hey, Audi should go the KISS way: Keep it simple stupid!

My MX5 (2 litre ND2 181bhp) gets 14-18mpg on track days, 32-38mpg around town and 45-50mpg on motorways. Can't compare the cars but I think you can compare the fun factor. Single digit fuel economy at g-wizz speeds is hard to swallow. I believe you're spending more on E5 even when you consider a 1-2% increase in economy. I hope you enjoy it, although once the novelty wears off I think the fuel bills will make you want something else.

  • @petejr7583

The lazy acceleration or less than immediate reaction is probably the typical Audi throttle lag. It’s not turbo lag nor the transmission, it’s the default throttle mapping in conjunction with the traction and stability control. Try the car in Dynamic mode with the TC off; notice how the car character lights-up, but unfortunately that comes with the irritating downshift and high rev holding that you don’t want or needs cruising around town. My advice, before risking voiding your Audi warranty with an aftermarket performance ECU and TCU software upgrade, try a simple and inexpensive throttle mapping optimizer. I’ve used one called Sprint Booster here in the States and love it. It allows you to select the level of sensitivity you want in the throttle; you’ll be surprised how much this simple devise transforms the car’s drivability in all modes. Your car already has everything it needs to be an exciting performer, it may just need less throttle/peddle restriction.

Have you considered the Audi S6 (or S4) at some point? Would be a massive improvement in terms of fuel economy and most likely fast enough. I got to drive my dad's Mercedes E400d estate last week and boy is that thing quick, spacious and comfortable. 340hp and 700NM (comparable to the S6) and yet I managed to average 6L/100km with careful driving on the Autobahn... and 10L/100km without careful driving :D Sure you don't have the sound of a petrol engine but there is something about a car that sounds like a tractor and pulls like one!
If I had to buy a multi purpose car it would surely be the Merc E400d

I’ve got a 2018 S4 with the V6 petrol and it’s amazing. I did euro delivery and got 30 mpg easily while over in Germany, Denmark and Sweden. And it is by far quick enough for everyday driving, really too quick. I find myself more just eco driving trying to get the mpg meter as high as I can since one squeeze of the throttle and I’m over the speed limits here in the states.

Performance wagons are the best. You sealed the deal at the end of the video showing all the stuff you can shove in the back. Utility and fun are an excellent pairing, and as everyone else is saying, tuning will solve most of your qualms. Still think yellow brakes are the way to go though!

  • @brookead

For the radio; when you have the music displayed on the virtual cockpit press the "left" button on the left hand side of the steering wheel and it will show you sources (you might have to press it twice) and then you can pick the source you want.
For the steering wheel, you might be able to put that on the * button on the steering wheel but Audis are wildly inconsistent between models as to what they let you put on that button. But you can for sure add the steering wheel heating to the custom buttons at the top of the climate controls. I think you press and hold it and you will get that option.
I had Audis for 10 years until recently getting an iX3 and I do think the latest Audi infotainment is poor compared to BMW. The previous generation was far more intuitive and easy to use. In this latest Audi setup WAY too much is buried deep in menus (which is why I can't remember exactly how you put the heated steering wheel controls on the top row but I know you can do it!) and the bottom screen is a massive wasted opportunity. Who needs that much space for the climate controls!? And when you press the seat icon to adjust things, what happens? A seat appears ON THE TOP SCREEN which you have to use! They should have stuck with a nice thin set of buttons like in the eTron RS and let you put things like music, maps (whatever you like) on that bottom screen. It's badly done.
That said, I drove an iX the other day which runs the latest BMW OS and they have moved some stuff off the physical controls and into the screens too and guess what, they've done a bad job there too,. I went from an iX into an i4 and that is MUCH better because they have retained a LOT of the 4 series controls (like climate and steering wheel heat) whilst still putting the big curved displays and latest OS into it. In the iX it's a button press, a screen tap and then another button press to go back to what you had on screen before, just to change from comfort to sport driving. On the i4, you press the sport button. It's things like that where there's too much on the screens sometimes.
I've also driven Teslas a lot and whilst they have a LOT (almost everything now!) on the screens they at least realise that a button on a touch screen needs to be WAY bigger than a physical one. For me, no one has the touch screen thing done better than Tesla, even though I do prefer more physical buttons than absolutely everything being on the screen.
The latest RS models suffer slightly from having an automatic transmission (I think the previous generation RS6 might have been auto too but the previous RS4 was DSG) which makes them a little more slushy; but if you wanted something to fly round country roads with you should have got the RS4. I used to have the V8 previous generation one and it was utterly brilliant.
Economy wise on a long run the RS6 ought to do cylinder shutdown for fuel economy when stooging along. Have you turned that off or just done no long distance driving yet?

  • @animal355
    @animal355 2 года назад

Those mpg figures are looming into supercar territory rather than a daily mover. 150 quid every few days is a big daily expense. I like the RS6 but it’s really not a daily. An RS4 or RS3 saloon would be more suited as a daily performance mover. Especially in London. But I’m loving the content Sam 👏

I would definitely go through all the driver settings and see if you can get closer to what you expect the car should feel like. If not, check with your dealership and see if there is some sort of update or flash the car needs. If both of those don't work, then it's probably your perception is a bit off on what to expect with a car like this. As mentioned, you could do an aftermarket tune, which could help liven things up, but will likely remove your drivetrain warranty. Which on a very pricey Audi RS model is probably something you don't want to lose.

Having had multiple BMW and Audi models I absolutely agree on some of the flaws you've mentioned that I think are typical of all Audi models. They're just seem to be designed to be slightly dim-witted, the gearbox in particular always unresponsive, and navigating the infotainment to do a simple task always seems to be a pain, and I've never got used to it. I think the M3 Touring will be an incredible shout for the inevitable RS6 replacement at some point! 🤔

One year and 8k miles into RS6 c8 ownership. Agree on the response points, seem to be software maps for this. Assume most of the behaviour is to meet emissions etc. mind that said car is plenty quick enough for me! sense of speed is diluted by quietness of interior and the double glazing all around. Thank god for the HUD as without it license would be lost easily. Not sure I know of a source switch fix for car play from steering wheel but the heated steering wheel icon should visible on the lower screen at all times just next to the 3 ellipses. I think the rs6 is like my c63 amg very refined and smooth which takes away some of the driving feeling and speed apart from when you are giving it some, to solve these things I got a stage 1 remap the throttle response sharpened, the valves open for extra grumble at low revs and the gear box remapped to make it feet more alive now it has 617 bhp and 857 nm the car feels alive in all modes and at any speed, but s your car being new probably not the thing to do, brilliant vid👍😀
