If you consider his intention was how do I trap an audience to listen to an hour of my daughter's music in concert form whilst still giving them a thriller to watch it's actually brilliant 😂😂
I watched the movie and now that I'm finding this out... I'm not mad. She did an incredible job. She can act. She can sing and the music complimented the movie. 😊 I hope she continues to perform and do well.
I was actually an extra in this movie and it was very fascinating to see M. Night up close directing, and Josh Hartnett was such a nice guy always joking around and even acknowledging extras, we were filming these scenes at 6 am in the morning and he really set an example of how an actor should be on set.
He’s openly admitted to turning down certain roles because he doesn’t like the fame that comes with his line of work. Super humble dude who’s clearly a real human and not a pretentious dick
@@walterwhite1 Yeah, of course, after all the roles with Guy Ritchie and the supporting role with Nolan, he is still bankrupt, of course!) Dreamers are such dreamers))
I feel like I need to clarify a point about the "trap." The police didn't stage the concert to catch him. The concert was already happening. It was planned independently of the police's involvement. As said by the vendor he was talking to, the police received an anonymous tip that the killer would be at the concert, so they capitalized on that. Anyone who walked away thinking the police staged the concert wasn't paying attention.
@@gringosdarr no, I'm not. A big part of the climax of the movie is revealing who tipped the police off to the fact that he was gonna be at the concert. The concert that he bought tickets to. Because it was already scheduled before police involvement.
After seeing the movie it’s obvious Chris refuses to even constructively criticize movies in good faith anymore. Jesus Christ the amount of plot contrivances and moments of absolute stupidity were everywhere
@@klaymore533 I’ve always rooted for Shyamalan, I walk into the theater wanting to see a good movie. But some of the writing in his recent movies is bafflingly bad
No offense Chris but I don’t think anyone got anything from that review. You complimented Josh’s performance, which is great and makes sense. You mentioned M. Night’s daughter generating a whole album for it, cool fact to add. And then you mentioned how nice it is to see a lot extras in a film again (sort of makes sense)…. But that’s it. Doesn’t really feel like a review. You didn’t mention the endless plotholes in this movie, endless convenience for the characters, far too much of M. Night’s daughter and her music shown, the list could go on. I think Chris if you’re going to make videos like this don’t use a “Movie Review” template. Make it more a film study template and discuss how some shots are made. Use the platform to teach everyday people more about lighting, camera work, acting strategies and just overall how everything works on set. I think that would be a much cooler and far better fit video concept for your channel.
Yeah, it would make more sense if he changed the format to be more in line with what he's doing now. If he feels too uncomfortable making a real review of a new movie, he should try to do something else with the channel. He doesn't owe us anything. Refreshing to see a comment with good constructive feedback. I agree with others that this review isn't very substantive or balanced, but they don't have to be so mean and entitled about it.
The concert wasn't set up just to catch the killer. Hartnett's character already bought the ticket and the police found those tickets and arranged a setup with the singer. The concert was going to happen anyway
@@bdubberzno they didn’t. The ticket was found in one of his abandoned houses that the wife called n the anonymous tip for. Still a wild plot but thats the logic
It was the receipt of the ticket. Not the ticket. Anyways no one would be identified by a ticket. It's a ticket not an actual ID. Bt in the movie it's not even a ticket Bt the receipt of the ticket, he may have paid cash for this one.
They describe the plot in such a stupid way, even when I went and saw it I was pissed i wouldn’t get answers explained but yeah it is perfectly answered in every way and it is in every way feasible. It’s already spoiled in this thread so I’ll chime in with it too, put real simply the concert was just a normal concert but the wife called in suspecting her husband as the serial killer and knew he’d be at the concert so the security locked in on him during the concert. The whole “trap setup” idea is very misleading and stupid thankfully that isn’t the case of the movie at all, just a marketing thing, I’m glad the logic actually makes normal sense.
Yeah cuz its not a review. This guy has given up reviewing to instead spit propaganda. "M Night so amazing! I felt good watching this! Concert. Theater. Sound. Woo!" How does this guy have an audience that sticks around. This channel just panders and panders
Seriously dude, what’s the point in reviewing movies anymore if you can’t fully commit to it and do it properly. You can tell you’re clearly trying to stretch the very FEW good things about this movie while blatantly avoiding all the trash in it, ESPECIALLY in that third act. This movie was a nepotism project to use as a launching pad for his daughter’s singing career. Say things for how they really are, or don’t say anything at all.

It's great to see Josh Hartnett in a leading role. His character is so charismatic, and has a sweet relationship with his daughter, that you almost forget that he's the baddie. It gives me "You" vibes, with Penn Badgley.
I’ve always been a fan of his since 30 days of night. That movie is def not a great one imo, but enjoyable and a fun movie. He killed that role tho and made me a fan!
i was thinking about the You angle too!!! Its the same perspective as it. It plays with your mind to make you like the main character which also happens to be the antagonist
Awful take. You're ignoring essentially everything wrong with this film. Granted the first thirty minutes ticks the boxes - intriguing set up, grand location, slow build - but this went downhill massively very quickly after that. The final 30-40 minutes are even an insult to our intelligence. An experienced writer/director made this film and it feels like it was written by a college student.
This is an odd review, does feel a bit like it’s skirting a lot of the issues. I’m a fan of Shyamalan’s earlier stuff and OK, this movie wasn’t poor for the usual Hollywood reasons at the moment, but it was very far from solid.
Ever since Chris entered the Hollywood industry, it seems like he's been holding back his criticism of films. He's been praising even the films that aren't very good. Oh God, I misses the "A+, B- and Hilariocity reviews.

This really isn't a review, it's just you talking about technicalities. I'm glad you acknowledge that it's great when a movie is what the movie maker wants it to be (especially since you're a film maker yourself), but from a viewer's point of view I didn't get anything from this "review". Your "reviews" don't feel like they have any objectivity nowadays, which doesn't make me want to go see the movie. I dunno, I used to really value your take on films, but now it almost feels like you're doing a disservice to movie by not critiquing anything - just selling it regardless of quality. I'm not saying your review is wrong (there is subjectivity in reviews, obviously), but these same takes feel meaningless. Maybe instead of "reviews" you do breakdowns? Or how they inspired you? Whatever - I'm super looking forward to Shelby Oaks and backed it because I've loved your work for years now. Just wanted to share my thoughts as one of those fans.
I get what you are saying. I generally have always been interested in Chris’ opinion on films. we don’t always have the same taste in films, but he’s good at walking through the important aspects of a film that I value. In this one, it definitely sounds like he’s focusing solely on the context surrounding the film and technical aspects and not so much the story itself, which is a little strange considering how mixed the reviews have been so far.
I actually would appreciate that pivot much more than these "reviews" and it would give Chris a fun angle to approach movies now for his channel since he wants to avoid being critical in any way.
Amen to that, I'm glad I'm not the only one who felt that way. Since he did his first film, he stopped giving real opinions and ratings. So I don't know why he keeps doing these. There's nothing suspicious there, so THAT'S when you should be looking for this suspect... That's not even getting into that the regular staff at the event had no need to know anything about the operation.
@@firefly4f4 They had security checkpoints at the beginning, they just brought in actual SWAT, more police, etc. once everyone was inside so that they wouldn't spook the serial killer from entering. Is this even a review? You basically describe the movie and review the performance by Josh Hartnett. You talk almost nothing about the plot, the dialogue, scenes, story or cinematography of the movie. You just talk about how you love the director... so what? What about the MOVIE?! What i hear from all other sources is that the plot and story are both incredibly weak. There are so many instances of people not acting logical to keep an incredibly thin story going
This film is typical Shyamalan - great idea, great setup - falls apart in the 3rd act. This one basically serves as an advertisement for the eventual soundtrack release, where his daughter will have written and performed the bulk of the material.

Extremely forced script, awkward dialogues straight into the camera, far fetched and totally unbelievable plot, and the FBI lady was a total miscast. Really danced around the plot here. Talked about concepts and the setting, but not the story. Even made some weird analogy by entering a contract with the movie based on its premise??? That tells me the story sucks. And it sucks Chris just can’t say that any more for a variety of reasons. I don’t want to read between the lines in a movie review
I feel like there are a lot people like us, who want to preserve the excellent parts of classical filmmaking and blend it with the excellent parts of modern filmmaking. After I saw Split, I told myself: "I will not miss one M. Night movie in theatres, ever." And I haven't. Because when I watch M. Nights movies, his movies are purely him and I can connect to his vision. He has a nice old school, Hitchcockian manner of filming while adding his own spin. The detail in the production is beautiful. I have loved every single movie he has made since the Visit, aside from Glass (which I kind of like). Even Old, I know, but I love it. The movies feel so different, so grand and so contained at the same time. It's an event. Like watching Nolan, Fincher or Tarantino. These are the types of movies we need to support. It's a cliché, but please. Give these movies a shot. My verdict about Trap: amazing thriller. Rare movie to get these days, atleast in wide release theatres. Josh Hartnett gives one of the best performances of the year. Probably M. Nights best since Split. And the characters feel natural, for y'all who are worried about M. Nights awkward humour and dialogue.

It didn’t dawn on me why this movie felt a certain way until you mentioned the extras. And you’re exactly right. I went and saw it yesterday. It's one of those films where I wish I was in the writers room, because I have so many questions. There are several scenes where the camera zooms in or there's a jump cut, because it's impossible to explain how he can get away with so much of what he does, in such a crowded place. Like pushing a girl down a giant set of stairs without anyone seeing him do it?! Leaving his daughter alone at the concert like 8 times before she starts to wonder why, and none of the thousands of cops around him sees him come and go? And the humor seems really strange in some scenes, as the film is otherwise serious, like a second unit filmed all the comedy aspects and they only realised it didn't fit the rest of the film in post. It's unfortunate because the idea for Trap is really good, and everything about the concert from the music to the performance is very convincing. Don't get the concert receipt thing. Who has paper receipts for concerts, #1. And #2 there's no information on that receipt to track the purchaser? Did I miss this part? Sometimes I miss stuff like that on the first viewing.
@@suneyeintuition4315 What's weird is that, to get a receipt, he had to buy the tickets in a physical store. So why would he risk getting caught on camera buying the tickets in a store, when he could buy them online? Also, the receipt didn't have fingerprints? There are so many questions!
What the hell are you even talking about? This was, without a doubt, the worst movie I've ever seen. Scene after scene after scene of completely nonsensical conveniences to justify getting to the next scene. There was a criminal profiler in the film that resorted to "stopping every man leaving the venue." That's not a criminal profile! He steals a badge to go into an employees only area only to find a swath of SWAT officers and he just ambles past them all and no one raises any alarms--despite him fitting the supposed description of the assailant. He was trapped in a limousine, surrounded by people, and he just gets out wearing a hat and no one says anything? After gouging a cops eyes out, they let him stop by his kids bicycle to adjust it, thus, letting him steal a spoke from the wheel? No one saw him yank free a metal spoke from a bike wheel when he was completely surrounded? He was able to leave his house while it was completely surrounded by cops because somehow he had a SWAT uniform and helmet in storage? Every single scene and bout of dialogue was completely unbelievable, unrealistic, and so far fetched that I couldn't get invested. I simply kept watching the movie because I had never seen anything so horrendously bad in my entire life. It's like it was written by a 9-year-old.
I had fun with it and the first act really built up goodwill for the scenes and turns later in the film. Hartnett was really good at switching between goofy, charming, and creepy (sometimes within the span of a few minutes)
To me Josh Hartnett is at his best in Penny Dreadful. Too bad the show wasn't as popular. I've been waiting for Trap and now can't wait to see it especially now that I've seen your review 😊
I heard he's great in this too it'd be interesting to see at the next Oscars if they open up the nominations to the horror genre and nominate Nicolas Cage Josh Hartnett and Maika Monroe for the acting categories I doubt they will outside of Nicolas Cage but it seems like the Academy always overlooks horror like they don't take it seriously
It’s crazy how all of the comments are dumping on Chris for losing his spine and not being able to critique anything anymore… too bad he won’t read the comments, and if he does, he’ll just blow them off as people being shitty fans…
Sadly, I think most of the comments about this not really being a review are correct. I dismissed them at first, but as the video went on it became really clear that you're pulling your punches. Especially because you don't mention the biggest issue - that the film is basically an advert for his daughter's music.
Pretty sure the baseball scene in My Best Friend’s Wedding was filmed during an actual baseball game. They didn’t hire extras or need to orchestrate anything in that scene. They just filmed it during a baseball game.
The trailers make the movie seem so good and you get hyped and but when you watch the movie and it's not as advertised, ie the movie where 2 dads and their daughter are in a cabin and one has to die to stop the world from being destroyed. Can't recall the name, because it was forgettable.
At least he tries to do something different. Most directors fall into the same old crap we have seen. He puts a twist on things and we just have to hope for the best. Sometimes it pays off other times it doesn't. I'll always be a fan because he's true to his vision.
After the movie ended, I looked at my wife and said "I feel like M. Night Shyamalan reached into my pocket and stole from me." And we borrowed it from the library. I get that Mr. Stuckmann no longer likes to give negative reviews, and yet it was bound to happen that a film would come along for which NO review from Mr. Stuckmann would be a conspicuous omission on his channel (or a statement about the movie in and of itself). Enter this latest offering by M. Night Shyamalan, and the resulting review which felt like a game of verbal dodgeball. I've greatly enjoyed Chris Stuckmann's reviews, and used to really come to rely on them as solid recommendations for or against movies. I guess I can't do that anymore, and I think that's a shame. There is such a thing as a bad movie - for a reviewer to dance around that fact binds his reputation to the worst of what a director can produce. Seems like an unsafe gamble.
Coming from an M Night apologist (The Sixth Sense and Signs are two of my all-time favorite movies), you nailed it. I was so disappointed and actually angry by the end of the movie at what putrid garbage it was. I can handle poor/cringey writing and acting but the direction was so lifeless and felt like an ad for his daughters undeserved pop career. With the bar set so high by studios like A24 and even big budget horror like Smile making an effort, this felt like it doesn't deserve to exist.
I'm sorry, but the logic at 3:44 is one of the weirdest rationalizations I've ever heard. I can think certain aspects of a movie are absurd. Buying a ticket doesn't mean I've entered into a contract to give that a pass.
I kind of think doing "reviews" like this, hurt people's perception of Chris as a filmmaker himself. This movie was AWFUL with massive plot holes and nonsensical things that kept on happening, and the fact that Chris doesn't mention any of them, or acknowledge what a mess this movie is, just makes me think that his own films will have similar issues. Whether that's true or not, I think he'd be better off not "reviewing" movies when he's not willing to criticize them in any way, shape, or form
Man, this is not a review. It's more of an analysis or an opinion. I get why you are not critical anymore and respect it but damn, these videos are so lame now. Wanted to give your channel a second chance but I guess it's not for me. Good grind though

Another M. Night movie that had a lot of potential. Solid acting, visuals, and even respectable dialogue. However, all the tension that was slowly building up in the first act flew out the window the moment the characters left the concert. It was likely a writing choice M. I was actually an extra in this movie and it was very fascinating to see M.

Sure.. but only checking people AFTER they've entered? Every big event venue I've been at since 9/11 - concerts, sports, gaming and comic conventiond - have security checkpoints as they enter the arena. There's nothing suspicious there, so THAT'S when you should be looking for this suspect...
Except of course what kind of spouse discovers their partner is a mass murderer then lets said partner be alone with their daughter for any reason?
That's not even getting into that the regular staff at the event had no need to know anything about the operation.
@@firefly4f4 They had security checkpoints at the beginning, they just brought in actual SWAT, more police, etc. once everyone was inside so that they wouldn't spook the serial killer from entering. I mean if an army of cops showed up to a concert, what serial killer wouldn't bug out immediately. Also the staff would be curious as hell and potentially fuck up worse than they already did. The parent thing I'll give you, but she probably figured "what's the worst that could happen at a concert? He's already been a father and she's been safe with him into her teenage years".

The turn involving a limousine was even more ridiculous, to the point it seems meta-comical. Almost so-bad-it's-funny territory, only with Shyamalan at his absolute bottom. The script itself-dialogue, minor turns, etc.-barely ever hits C grade. Those low low budget blockbuster knockoffs have more respect for the audience than this does.

It’s crazy that Chris was sold on this guy because of a couple influential movies at a critical point in his life and now he’s an apologist who can’t give unbiased critiques…. This is a movie to push his daughter’s music career. You don’t play full songs of an amateur unless you want to sell her songs on Spotify to make her money. And let’s not be too naive here… she didn’t write the songs for this movie… they are part of her music catalog that she wanted to showcase. Josh was great…the premise is wonky but could have been great. But here again, we have a director who lets his ego make poor decisions and a desire to push his daughter’s music over making a good movie.
Listened to her album on the way home from the movie. It’s really just lowest common denominator pop that holds up even worse outside of the theater. Best part is the Cudi feature.

Extremely forced script, awkward dialogues straight into the camera, far fetched and totally unbelievable plot, and the FBI lady was a total miscast.

My verdict about Trap: amazing thriller. Rare movie to get these days, atleast in wide release theatres. Josh Hartnett gives one of the best performances of the year. Probably M. This!!!
I just wish it was put in the hands of more capable writers.

There hasn't been a "masterpiece" in decades
The trailers make the movie seem so good and you get hyped and but when you watch the movie and it's not as advertised, ie the movie where 2 dads and their daughter are in a cabin and one has to die to stop the world from being destroyed. Can't recall the name, because it was forgettable.
@@machomeechold and split are good
There is also a third option: “Masterpiece Of Crap” where it’s such a piece of crap, it’s a masterpiece
It's not even correct to begin with. The cops didn't make the concert, his wife just tipped them off he was going.
