I think it grabs onto the pin you just need to pull it off but be careful it's easy to break. I would make sure the plastic is warm before toying with it.
I was filming with mine the other day and it shut down unexpectedly. I recharged the camera overnight and it won't power on. Then I tried to swap out the battery, but it was stuck. I had to use a pliers to pull the tab, but the entire plastic end cap came off the battery. It's stuck in there to a point where nothing can pull it out.
At that point, I would look to jb weld something like a toothpick to the battery, let it set, then yank it out and toss it in the trash. I like to pull my batteries each trip and check for swelling. Once it begins to swell its time to toss it.
@@CarolinaShoreFishingI found a suggestion on Reddit that worked for me. Smacking the camera down on a hard tabletop surface a few times. The battery eventually came out for me.

Do you know how to remove the actual door?
Depends on your GoPro, but I believe from Hero6 onwards you can just pull it out gently and it will snap off. My Hero8 is like that.

Try to slide the door at the hinge with your finger nail gently while also pushing down the release
