Your reaction is so interesting. I think this movie may have been extremely ahead of its time. Watching the film again with you guys really makes me appreciate it a lot more than when I first saw 20 years ago. The Hulk dog scene in particular is something that many comic book movie fans absolutely hated. I think if this movie came out today with a bit of updated CG and a slight color change on the Hulk in particular, I think he would have looked a little bit more real and could have really worked today. A few different editing choices and comic book panel transitions removed and the central theme of Bruce Banner's trauma could have worked very well with today's audience. This movie got so much hate when it was first released and I was definitely one of them. We didn't particularly like it all too much but like I said after rewatching it with you today I see it very differently.

Other than turning him into a giant in order to show "The angrier the Hulk gets, the STRONGER THE HULK GETS", the movie stuck really close to the comics. The biggest changes - renaming Brian and Rebecca Banner David and Edith, and renaming his adopted family Krenzzler instead of Walters. Also, as a sufferer of Multiple Personality or Dissociative Identity Disorder, there's actually more than one Hulk running around in Bruce's head, each with varying levels of strength and Intelligence. Savage Hulk is the strongest but least intelligent, Joe Fixit is the meanest but rather mid-range in everything, Professor is the smartest but lacks the other Hulk's ability to increase his strength, and Devil - the Immortal Hulk - is the toughest since he literally cannot die.

The problem at the time was I remember it got leaked months in advanced, but back then the leaks were done w/o the completion of the VFX.
So all you saw was the animation part of Hulk and not the shading and shadows etc. It did have an effect on the peoples reviews thereafter as they couldn't get over the nonexistent VFX.
    Just my two cents.

Critics and die hard Marvel fans have named this The Worst Hulk Movie Ever Made, but I think it's pretty impressive in scale and storytelling.
Originally, Eric Bana and Lou Ferrigno were going to reprise their roles as The Hulk VIA CGI, where they were going to have cameos in SPIDERMAN NO WAY HOME. Unfortunately they were cut from the movie.
Development for the movie began in 1990, with Joe Johnston and one time, Jonathan Hensleigh, were considered for directing before Ang Lee and James Schamus were brought on board.
Jonathan Hensleigh, John Truman, JJ Abrams, Michael France, Zak Penn, Michael Tolkin, David Hayter, Scott Alexander and Larry Karazewski wrote different drafts of the script between 1997 and 2002.
David Duchovney, Billy Crudup, Steve Buscemi, Jeff Goldblum, and Johnny Depp were considered for the title character until Eric Bana was cast.

Ruffalo was a side character in several movies, sometimes getting some character development but a lot of it also happens completely off-screen. Marvel really should have given Ruffalo a standalone movie, or at least an ensemble movie that focused on Banner/Hulk.
Also, didn't Eric Bana and Bill Bixby only play Banners? You included their Hulk counterparts in that list already.

I love that in this movie, after Hulk destroys the tanks/helicopters, he walks away saying “Puny humans”…and in Avengers after smashing Loki into the floor, he walks away saying “Puny god”

People really hate on the buildup to turning into the hulk., but honestly this came out in 2003. I think we just were not ready to fully understand superhero movies quite yet. Build the characters, let the audience get comfortable with and understand the human side , then bring in the superhero story. Its a good movie.

I honestly wish that Universal and Disney would come to some sort of deal because we need a new and more faithful standalone Hulk movie. One that dives into the tragic backstory and troubled mind of Bruce Banner that this movie did, but also gives The Hulk himself a voice and personality that Thor Ragnarok gave us!
Mark Ruffalo and all of us fans have been begging for that movie for over a decade!

Tone and pace of this film are why The Incredible Hulk (2008) had to be different.
Slow and psychological was not the way to go (a deleted scene shows why).
But the movie needed to be less of those things and more of a suspense action thriller.
I liked Hulk 2003 and glad it showed the internal spirit of the character.
But I also wanted to see the comics and tv series full fleshed out too.
In June 2023, the Hulk rights went back to Marvel.
Plans for a new movie are underway.

I love how they did like the comic book. Every scene flips or sometimes it splits in half and shows two different scenes at once with him going through the underground base after Hulk breaks out and shows Talbot face in a cut off square at 27:26 and also the house fight where Talbot walks in it splits that’s pretty cool. Especially in the fight scenes.

Mark 32:07. Oh the irony of the "Comanche"! The makers presumed that the project would go forward into mass production for the attack helicopter. Instead it lost to the "Apache" receiving upgrades instead. So this movie destroyed more "Comanche" attack helicopters than were ever produced! The helicopter's movie debut if I recall right. 🤔 "Godzilla" used the "Apache". There may be at least one more movie that used the "Comanche" or was it a video game? 🤔

Not a popular opinion but this is one of the better marvel movies (even though it was universal, and not marvel that made this). The CGi is good, but the best or one of the top 2 or 3 best CGI in ANY film is when the hulk is in the desert, get shot out of the sky, and tumbles down the sand dune, and they do a close up on his face, the lighting, shading, and the sand particles interacting on his hair and skin is one of the best all time it looks REAL. Also forget the growing part, Hulk doesn't get bigger, the madder he gets, and I have no clue why they did that, but ignoring that, this is the most comic accurate Hulk showing his power, but more so his agility and speed. In future movies they never show that part of his powers because they thought how big he is it looked goofy, but it's a part of who he is, he stuns a lot of people in the comics with his speed. His jumping is how he gets around, and that is another thing they never show again in future movies.
It looks so good because ILM did the CGI and they are some of the top dogs in Hollywood when it comes to that. Unlike marvel films where 30-40 underpaid, and overworked visual effect companies are working on a single film. The ONLY CGI that is as good if not better in marvel movies is Thanos who looks real nearly always.

The Hulk has always been one of my top favorite superheroes, so seeing this in live-action for the first time was amazing. For coming out in 2003, Hulk (for the most part) looked absolutely amazing in this movie. And they nailed his size and transformation (His transformation in the house in front of Talbot was insane. It was so cool seeing Bruce become the Hulk like for the first time in live-action. The look and transformation of this Hulk still hold up today. And I liked Eric Bana as Bruce Banner and Jennifer Connelly as Betty Ross. The story and writing weren't perfect and it maybe could've used a little more Hulk-smashing action, maybe better enemies (instead of gamma-irradiated Hulk dogs), and less psychedelic visuals. But, I definitely feel nostalgia for this one. My dad took me to see it in theaters when I was 5 and bought me the DVD afterward and I watched it over and over again. Ironically enough though, I replayed the Hulk dog fight over and over when I was a kid🤣

Even though I feel this movie is poorly paced, it's the most accurate to Hulk's power. No other movie shows him getting stronger as he gets angrier he's either staticly strong or in Incredible Hulk he only got stronger when Betty was in danger. This took some BIG liberties with the story but at least touched on his tragic past (it's so much worse in the comics). It took me years to realize though that they turned Brian Banner in this into the Absorbing Man from the comics. So this movie took some big swings possibly before people were ready for it.

The Pilot episode for the 1977 THE INCREDIBLE HULK TV series was originally a made for tv movie. It was so good they released it overseas in theaters and 6 months later made it a tv series. They recut the Pilot episode into 2 parts. The series ran for 5 seasons but was canceled because it was expensive to make. Unfortunately the late 80s had 3 spin off movies which were terrible, including bad hulk makeup, and bad Marvel teamups, and that's what people see clips of and pictures of all over the internet. You should do a reaction to the Pilot episode 2 parts. And I guarantee you will love it and possibly want to do some or all the tv series. Much of Ed Norton's HULK movie is based on the tv series.
