Fun fact the guy that played Buff Waldo is a former pro wrestler named Kevin Nash. They got the prop knives mixed up and Jane actually stabbed him but Nash just took it and kept going. Crazy that he got stabbed and just kept going
Haha! I just commented the same thing. I didn't read the previous posts. It's nuts. Kevin Nash didn't even care either. Just told Thomas Jane to buy him a beer later.
One of the things I loved about this movie is the interrogation scene with the popsicle. It was adapted directly from the first issue of Punisher: War Zone.
They did a great job of adapting different pieces from various Punisher comics. I saw that the piercing scene was taken from the 2000-2001 Punisher series. That one was hard to watch, even on a rewatch.
@@secondchance6603 That is Ben Foster, dude is a very good actor. He's been in a bunch of good films over the years in supporting roles, he's really good in Hell or High Water.
It’s hilarious he said “I love the trope being buff doesn’t matter when you get stabbed”. When during filming Jane accidentally really stabbed Kevin Nash. Kevin Nash managed to keep his composure until they cut.
The singer/assassin Harry Heck was played by country singer/songwriter Mark Collie. He’s one of my favorite parts of the movie, even if it is only a small part. He’s written songs for Garth Brooks, Tim McGraw, Alabama, and others. He’s also big into philanthropy, raising millions for juvenile type1 diabetes, food banks, & victims of domestic abuse being some of them.
The apartment fight scene between Frank and the Russian is still one of my favorite fight scenes in a comic movie to this day. Also John Travolta as a bad guy is always going to be great
Unreasonably hard sums up the character. The Punisher is unreasonable. As in once a person finds themselves in his sights, there is no reason, no bargain, and no escape.
This movie was dark not just his wife and son his whole f’in family! Jesus Christ! This movie is really underappreciated and honestly one of the best Marvel Movies before the MCU!
Thomas Jane is even better in the Punisher video game and has a tone of references and cameos from the greater Marvel Universe pretty much set on Earth-616 so it feels like you're playing through a comic book not to mention writer Garth Ennis even wrote the story of the game.
I really liked that this movie showed how intelligent Frank Castle can be. He’s a regular human being facing overwhelming odds-so he looks for weaknesses, makes strategies, and messes with his opponents’ heads. He isn’t just a Rambo knockoff standing in the open and spraying bullets at stormtroopers-he’s a driven man with a plan.
Fun fact: The knife that Punisher stabs the Russian with was real. Someone accidentally gave Thomas Jane a real knife and he stabbed Kevin Nash with it. Of course Nash knew immediately that it was real due to the pain and acted unfazed and carried on doing the scene.
Whoaaaa - was that someone same one that gave Baldwin the real gun?? (Not making light of either incident, just still in disbelief that stuff isn’t better regulated on a set!)
One of my favorite movie soundtracks, it really captured the mood of the film! Love Thomas Jane and I thought he was underrated in this. I wish they had done more!
I love this movie more every time I watch it! It's a absolute crime that there was no sequel made with Thomas Jane. The short film dirty laundry was good but it's still so sad we didn't get another full feature filming with him.
John and Tara react so well and bounce off each other flawlessly. Huge fan! And this is one of the original Marvel products that was actually so damn good. It gave you more of a humane look at the villain and their families. Like it made you feel bad for Quintin and the wife, but like, then you remember that they are actually total shite stains and are the reason Frank is doing all this to begin with. The action scenes, the gore, the music, the camera shots and just everything. It was so damn brilliant.
What a pleasant surprise! When I was watching your guys' reactions to other older Marvel movies, I had hoped Punisher would follow and here it is! I honestly love this movie, and it's what made me a Thomas Jane fan.
This is one of my all-time favorite films. I saw it as a child, and it's what first established my love for well told action films. It also doesn't hurt that young Thomas Jane is *so handsome,* he made my 11 year old heart flutter
32:20 That scene always impresses me. You can't BUY that kind of loyalty. To have all those facial piercings ripped out and not talk. . . . That is impressive. I will always respect that character..
This is where the fun begins!!! I'm loving that you guys are watching the old Marvel movies before the MCU! This movie isn't perfect, but I think it's really fun and has a decent story. Curious to hear you two's thoughts! 🙏🏽💪
Fun Fact: in the directors cut of the film, before Howards goons do the dirty deed. They show Howard saint and his men at one of their partners underground casino's and see Franks old partner there. they also find out that Frank's partner has substantial gambling debts so you can guess what happened from there.
The directors cut had some additional scenes which elevated the story little better. It's amazing the writer of Die Hard with a vengeance directed this film. I believe his name is Jonathan Hensleigh.
I remember this was a fun time at the movies. I wish they brought Jane back for a couple more. Punisher: War zone is incredible. Ray Stevenson was perfect for that movie. He'll be missed. Great reaction.
Jane actually did a Punisher fan film with Ron Perlman. Not only that, Jane and Jon Bernthal did a Taran Tactical video together to try out the firearms used in John Wick Chapter 4.
Punisher: War Zone is very underrated. It's so well done. It has the over-the-top comic book feel while maintaining the R-rated, gory edge. And Ray Stevenson was a badass Frank Castle.
I loved this movie when it came out. I loved Thomas Jane as Punisher. I was kinda sad when he was replaced for Warzone but I did end up enjoying that movie as well.
This was the directorial debut of Jonathan Hensleigh. Best known as an writer on many films in the 1990s. 2 of them were:Die Hard with a Vengeance & Armageddon. Baltimore's own Thomas Jane in the title role did pretty well. John Travolta is good as the main villain. The supporting cast was decent (Will Patton, Kevin Nash, Ben Foster and Rebecca Romijn). I'm sure that a lot of us who wanted a new Punisher film expected to see a all-out crime action thriller with unbelievable sequences and kills as only he could do it. This take on the material was more about investigation, internal demons and more redemption than total revenge. That made some people mad, but I didn't mind it all. There was a unofficial short film, The Punisher:Dirty Laundry with Thomas Jane. Y'all should watch it. It's pretty good.
This has to be one of the best get backs in movie history. He finds a way to destroy every part of the villains life. Also this movie is just incredible, we need something like this again.
28:01 In the PS2 game of The Punisher, The Russian is pretty much bulletproof. Kinda breaks the immersion when dual wielded .50 cal sniper rifles don't dent him, but it was a fun fight. So, the song right as the credits start was the first single Drowning Pool released after their original vocalist, Dave Williams, died. The vocalist they had for this album, Jason "Gong" Jones, only stuck around for this one, being replaced afterward by Ryan McCombs. McCombs was their first vocalist to record more than one album with them, after which he left the band and they got a fourth guy who recorded three albums with them, before being replaced by McCombs returning. They were a great band who have pretty much faced issues from moment one, but their debut album _Sinner_ is still one of my absolute favorites.
This movie was filmed a city away from me in Tampa Bay. My brothers and I actually auditioned to be an extras in the film. An interesting factoid, "During shooting of a fight scene, Jane legitimately stabbed Nash in the collarbone with a blunted butterfly knife after a stunt coordinator forgot to change the props. Nash did not break character and continued the scene and accepted cold beers from the crew as compensation."
Interesting thing the guy who walks into the diner with the guitar case is musician Mark Collie and the Russian is played by former pro wrestler Kevin Nash
If I recall correctly Thomas Jane came back as Frank in a short film called "Dirty Laundry" and if I'm correct it's very worth checking out. Love the reaction guys.
As many times I’ve seen this movie I never even realized the truck just disappeared after running them over 😂 I laughed so hard when John pointed that out
Nice! This is th second Iteration of THE PUNISHER. The first was Dolph Lungdren in 1989, and that version stayed true to the source material, where Frank Castle was a cop trying to take down a mob boss corrupting his precinct and when he gets too close, his family ends up getting killed by a car bomb. Another iteration of the character was played by Ray Stevenson in the 2008 reboot, Punisher War Zone. RIP, Ray Stevenson. 1964-2023. The fourth iteration of the character was played by Jon Bernthal and he made Frank Castle into a badass vigilante.
Part of the vibe the director intended to capture was that of a spaghetti western. That's evident in the opening credits and score. There was also an effort to use old school practical stunts to give this a more intense feeling.
I love this whole movie with my whole heart. The entire cast are fantastic, even John "The Entire Ham" Travolta plays his character perfectly. As much as I love the whole cast, though, John "Bumpo" Pinette and Ben "Spacker Dave" Foster are my absolute favourite characters, this is also the movie that made me fall in love with Ben Foster's work. The lad is a fucken gem. I haven't personally read a lot of comics so I don't know how close to canon the movie itself is, but I do know it's a great mashup of the arc "Welcome Back Frank"/"Year One" with parts of the PS2 video game, itse;f loosely based on "Welcome back Frank"
These older Marvel movies are actually very good! At least the first one of each for me (Besides Blade! I love all of those haha). I really loved this movie when it first came out and I love that it is getting some love by a bunch on channels recently! If you want to see more of Thomas Jane, whether on the channel or privately, check out The Expanse! (That goes for you viewer also!)
(At 20:53) of everything I remember on this movie, the one thing that stood out had to be… "Broken by Seether Amy Lee" (Singer of _Evanescence,_ along with guitarist Ben Moody in 1995, both of which are founders of the band)
I love John and Tara combo reactions. This was actually one of the first marvel comics movies I ever saw as a kid, other than blade lol and it was so insane and heavy. Especially the family stuff 😞 Thomas Jane was a great Punisher tho.
He "went to town on that particular guy" because he was the one who killed his father in front of him. Notice the cheek scar he gave him at the family reunion.
I think current MCU films could learn a thing or two about diverse tones from the older Marvel movies, especially this one. Everything feels so homogenized now, so alike that it's like a breath of fresh when go back see how didn't the older felt in tone, even the older MCU films. Glad y'all liked this one, it's a classic, a great film.
This movie was based on two Punisher comic book series "The Punisher: Year One (1994)" and "Punisher: Welcome Back Frank (2000)" - some of the older sensibilities come through from the earlier comics.
Fun fact when frank stapped the big guy with a knife it was a real knife cause the prop department accidently forgot to switch them but the knife was dulled down
I know it was said already about Nash getting stabbed for real. but I want to point out that they called it a "trope" about being buff means you don't react to being stabbed. but the fact that Nash being buff and ACCTUALLY got stabbed and didn't react proves that is isn't just a trope. when Joan put her hand on his mouth was because he was unconscious and was groaning so the hand on the mouth was to try to muffle his noises that he was making.
God I love this film, I know the dialogue back to back the soundtrack back to back it's just such a fun satisfying film. Yeahhh it's cheesy but man Tom is incredible in this. ( Don't forget to watch the shortfilm THE PUNISHER: DIRTY LAUNDRY with Tom in reprising his role as Castle it's dope)
"I love the trope that just being that buff, it doesn't matter if you get stabbed" This time the trope was true. The prop department screwed up, He ACTUALLY got stabbed. And continued with the scene
As others have mentioned, would love you guys to react to Punisher: War Zone, it's my favourite of the movies. Ray Stevenson, may he rest in peace, was fantastic as the cold and calculated Frank Castle. Hope to see it here one day!
If you pay attention to some of Frank's more brutal kills you'll notice he did them in that way because the bad guy made it personal. (I.E piercings kid and Frank's Dad.)
I loved this movie Thomas Jane was a great Punisher it's one of my favorite Marvel movies this movie is great and it would be awesome to see Thomas Jane and John Berthal join forces both Punishers would be great together on the big screen
The DVD extras of this film is a masterclass on making action on a tight budget. The producers made cuts so they had to resort to a lot of practical old school film tricks. Which I think is perfect for the Punisher considering the character was made during that 70’s film vigilante era. Tom Jane was such a great Punisher. This came out before Batman Begins so the comic book film genre still wasn’t getting the respect it deserved.
Can hardly wait for you to see 2003's Hulk at some point. If you plan to also see Ben Affleck's Daredevil, then I highly recommend the director's cut version.
27:59 That stab right there. . . There was a mistake made on set and that knife was not a prop knife, but the real deal. Kevin Nash is the one playing "the Russian" in the film didn't break character and stayed with it for the rest of the sequence and when the director called for a cut he got medical attention and they resumed making the film. BTW Kevin Nash was also rather famous as a professional wrestler around the time this film was made. Edit: Also Kevin Nash is just that big of a man. He stands at 6 foot 10 inches and weighs around 320 - 330 pounds.
Funny you brought up the troupe of being too big to be stabbed during the fight with the Russian. They didn’t replace the knife with the gimmicked one and that was a legit stabbing that Kevin Nash no sold
I don't know how people watch this. The dude zooms in on his face every time he speaks, which wouldn't be so bad except for the fact he never stops talking so like every 5 seconds it's zoom zoom zoom! A million people subscribe to this? My god.😂
@@shooter_My_Dulait’s a reaction channel they are suppose to to talk like have some common sense if you don’t think their funny it’s a personal opinion but it sounds like your simply dick riding a stranger.

When the boat came up over the truck in that car chase it was not planned, it was completely accidental and the stuntmen almost got their heads taken off.
I think the best thing in this movie is how he literally played every single person to his advantage from the wife to the right hand man it was beautiful to see it all unfold 👏🏾👏🏾 also love the popsicle scene and him burning a steak to imitate the flesh that’s some mental torture for you 😂😂
There is a great video on RUclips of both Punishers Thomas Jane and Jon Bernthal at a shooting range at Taran Tactical, the same place that has trained actors like Keanu Reeves and Halle Berry for the John Wick films.
Harry Heck was played by an actual musician, good call. Guy's name is Mark Collie. His biggest song was "Even the Man in the Moon is Crying." He sounds a lot like Cash. EDIT: The big guy at the apartment, Bumbo I think his name was, is played by a comedian named John Pinette. Dude was hilarious.
Another Fun Fact: the Neflix's The Punisher, John Bernthal and 2000s The Punisher Thomas Jane have been spot practice gun training together this year (2023) for John's The Punisher to return in Daredevil: Born Again (2024) with Marvel Studio partner with FX production and there's rumour of another revival of John Bernthal's The Punisher in the future.
This is the one of the realest comic book movie ever. There is no CGI in this movie. Everything is done for real. The director is a fan of 1970s action movies like Dirty Harry (1971), Death Wish(1974), & Mad Max (1979). All of these movies are realistic & nothing is exaggerated.
There's an unofficial "sequel" short film called "Dirty Laundry" on Adi Shankar's Bootleg Universe channel, with Thomas Jane reprising his role. It's only 10 minutes long, but worth the watch, in my opinion. Y'know, on your own time.
Fun fact the camera WAS steady in the last shot of the movie of Frank on the bridge, that was taken on the sunshine skyway Bridge here in Tampa FL where most of the movie was filmed, the bridge was actually swaying instead of the camera not being steady, and trust me I actually hate going on that damn bridge
I never really understood why people never liked this movie, this is actually one of the few pre-marvel universe marvel films i actually enjoyed. Even more than the punisher tv series remake. its a fun movie.
So far, this is the best "Punisher". Nothing against Jon Berenthal, he's a great actor, but this "Punisher" is what you'd expect from the comics. Awesome reaction Guys!❤
28:00 It's not the one that kept in the movie but Jane did actually stab Kevin Nash when they were doing that same because the prop knife didn't go in like it was supposed to. And Kevin Nash pretty much joked and laughed at off. So I don't really think it's a trope I think it's just when you're that buff some stuff tends to hurt less. 🤣
I couldn't finish the video during my lunch break (overnight custodian), but throughout the wee hours of the morning I would hear, "Ring the beeeellllllllll" and I smiled.
Fun Fact: Kevin Nash actually got stabbed during the apartment fight. The prop knife malfunctioned and didn't retract into the handle like it was supposed to. The shock on Tom Jane's face was genuine when he realized what happened. Nash literally smiled through it, shrugged it off and finished the scene...now that's keeping in character.

Fun fact: The woman who plays Joan is Rebecca Romijn who also plays Mystique in the X-Men movies.
This movie was my childhood, I watched it on repeat and played the game that came out for it on the Xbox.
🙏🏽💪
This is one of the least cheesy superhero movies out there???
"I love the trope that just being that buff, it doesn't matter if you get stabbed" This time the trope was true. The prop department screwed up, He ACTUALLY got stabbed. And continued with the scene
As others have mentioned, would love you guys to react to Punisher: War Zone, it's my favourite of the movies. Ray Stevenson, may he rest in peace, was fantastic as the cold and calculated Frank Castle. Hope to see it here one day!
The neighbors is for sure the best thing about this movie. I love them.
If you pay attention to some of Frank's more brutal kills you'll notice he did them in that way because the bad guy made it personal. (I.E piercings kid and Frank's Dad.)
In which scene does he kill the guy who took out the kid's piercings? Is it in the final battle?
The propane explosion was practical. That was a dude in a double layered fire suit, covered in petroleum jelly and then actually exploded.
That scene with the popsicle is straight from a comic
this has to be my favorite punisher movie and such an underrated movie
Thomas Jane is underrated, he's been consistently good throughout his career. He's great in The Mist and loved him in The Expanse.
Literally the only version of the Punisher I like.
That particular guy he went knife crazy on was the one that killed his pops.
This is my first time watching this movie with y’all as well, never seen this one 😳💯
Edit: lmaoo what, diesel or Kevin nash was the Russian 😂😂
Great reaction guys😊 laughed at some of your reactions so many times 😂 Yes Tara now we must punish!!
LOL that you both lost your minds on the skull shape in fire in the parking lot at the end lmao
Can hardly wait for you to see 2003's Hulk at some point.
If you plan to also see Ben Affleck's Daredevil, then I highly recommend the director's cut version.
I hope they react to the Hulk movie
27:59 That stab right there. . . There was a mistake made on set and that knife was not a prop knife, but the real deal. Kevin Nash is the one playing "the Russian" in the film didn't break character and stayed with it for the rest of the sequence and when the director called for a cut he got medical attention and they resumed making the film. BTW Kevin Nash was also rather famous as a professional wrestler around the time this film was made.
Edit: Also Kevin Nash is just that big of a man. He stands at 6 foot 10 inches and weighs around 320 - 330 pounds.
Can’t believe I have to explain this, but describing someone’s Thursday routine does NOT mean they only do those things on Thursday
As far as revenge stories go this is by far the most satisfying, especially the way the wife dies since she’s the one who wanted the massacre
It actually DIDNT matter he got stabbed and kept going😂 Kevin Nash really got a knife in the shoulder and kept going
My god.😂
I Agree they talk way too much and they are not funny at all, it’s weird.
@@shooter_My_Dulait’s a reaction channel they are suppose to to talk like have some common sense if you don’t think their funny it’s a personal opinion but it sounds like your simply dick riding a stranger.
He doesn’t zoom into anything they have an editor goof ball they have so many subs because unlike you they have s real personality and don’t have to be hating assholes online to get some likes, thanks for helping the algorithm dummy helping pay their bills.😂
When the boat came up over the truck in that car chase it was not planned, it was completely accidental and the stuntmen almost got their heads taken off.
The infamous, “We aren’t lucky, we’re blessed” line 😅
Criminally underrated/overhated film. Jane was remarkable in the role.
"If you want peace, prepare for war". The franchises have a few things in common!
Jonathan Hensleigh who wrote: Die Hard with a Vengeance, Jumanji, The Saint with Val Kilmer, Armageddon, & Next with Nicolas Cage
Now we need Jon Bernthal to have his own Punisher movie
my favorite Punisher
36:21 Man, I love how the Punisher use a divide and conquer tactic in this film! So cool! 💪
"Its like Home Alone, but with an adult." Dude, that's like my house every single day, man.
There's an unofficial "sequel" short film called "Dirty Laundry" on Adi Shankar's Bootleg Universe channel, with Thomas Jane reprising his role. It's only 10 minutes long, but worth the watch, in my opinion. Y'know, on your own time.
Thanks for the laughs. I'm not sure I could manage such levels of sarcasm without cracking up, myself. "Part of his personality..." was gold!
It was filmed in Tampa FL, the Florida Keyes and if I'm not mistaken the family scene was filmed in Puerto Rico as well
I never really understood why people never liked this movie, this is actually one of the few pre-marvel universe marvel films i actually enjoyed. Even more than the punisher tv series remake. its a fun movie.
So far, this is the best "Punisher". Nothing against Jon Berenthal, he's a great actor, but this "Punisher" is what you'd expect from the comics. Awesome reaction Guys!❤
I agree Jon is overrated imo
This movie is underrated and is the most comic accurate version of the Punisher! The game released on PS2 is awesome and Thomas Jane did the voice.
Thomas Jane is a awesome Punisher. He totally nailed the role.
I still wish this movie got a sequel. I do love War Zone, but would love to see Jane come back.
27:35 In Russia, Waldo finds YOU.
Kinda hope we see Thomas Jane's Punisher pop up in some sort of Marvel-Multiverse film. Would be siiiiiiiickkkkk.
I couldn't finish the video during my lunch break (overnight custodian), but throughout the wee hours of the morning I would hear, "Ring the beeeellllllllll" and I smiled.
Bumpo is also the comedian John Pinette
Fun Fact: Kevin Nash actually got stabbed during the apartment fight. The prop knife malfunctioned and didn't retract into the handle like it was supposed to.
The shock on Tom Jane's face was genuine when he realized what happened. Nash literally smiled through it, shrugged it off and finished the scene...now that's keeping in character.
