      Hi Tom, yes, it is a good practice to disconnect the battery when you work close to the airbags. The 12v battery is located in the trunk of the RAV4. This video shows where it is located: Toyota RAV4 Hybrid (2019-2022): 12V Battery Location - ruclips.net/video/kR6gQE9d1Bo/видео.html.

    Hello, did you disconnect the battery before removing the A Pillar?

  • @scatcat1994
    @scatcat1994 2 года назад +2

    I'm an Auto Technician who installs Dash Cameras daily. The lack of experience in the video and comments is astonishing. Routing it infront of the airbag WILL hinder the airbag deploy, why take the risk? Get it installed by a professional.
    Please DO NOT cut in front of airbags. Just go in behind them, unless you pull the fucking thing it isn't going to deploy. Just route it in behind it.

    • @helltrooper1288
      @helltrooper1288 2 года назад

      You should have said that youre an auto technician who lacks a brain. The airbag pushes out the entire A-pillar panel and deploys with enough force to send a grown man airborne but apparently you think that's not enough to push a flimsy wire out of the way.

    • @scatcat1994
      @scatcat1994 2 года назад

      @@helltrooper1288 I also have a degree in Engineering with a fairly comprehensive understanding of physics.
      Yes an airbag deploys with lots of force, but if it's being wrapped around by a cable immediately that absolutely will affect how it deploys.
      It's the same principle as this: It's like having a firecracker go off in an open hand, you'll get a scorched palm. if you wrap your hands around it and it deploys your entire hand will be blown off.
      You want to take the risk, fine go ahead, I'll continue to spend an extra 5 seconds not being lazy and not risking peoples lives.

    • @helltrooper1288
      @helltrooper1288 2 года назад +2

      @@scatcat1994 I get your concern, I also rather not go over the airbag but my logic is that the A-pillar seems to be literally doing the same thing. It's blocking the airbag completely. Unless it's released by another mechanism and not from the force of the airbag deploying, I dont see how a wire in the same position could affect anything. It's not like the wire is under a lot of tension, once the A-pillar is loose, the wire will be dangling and any force applied will effectively pull the wire out that's still tucked in from above. The only problem is that the wire will most likely yank the dashcam off, break it, and send it towards passengers as a projectile, or passengers could get slapped in the face by the wire.
      How do you recommend going behind the airbag? I have a rear view camera that needs to be routed from the front windshield all the way to the back. Should I remove the remove the pillars as shown in the video?

    • @samjohns662
      @samjohns662 2 года назад +3

      @@helltrooper1288 It looks like it won't block the deployment of the airbag. But Have you guys taken into account that if blocked airbag with a wire deploys, the wire can hit the face with a really high speed and hurt the person. This could be really dangerous.

    • @swllz
      @swllz Год назад

      Air bag on the A pillar fires to the front door window to provide a cushion for driver and front passenger before hitting on door glass. If the firing direction is not blocked. It would be OK.
