Like most cameras, you need time to truly master them. The Q2 is perfect for weddings. The quality of the files are amazing, the size of the cameras does not "scare" people, I tend to blend in easily and capture natural scenes during a wedding. And you can crop ... The problem you faced is probably not being used to a constant 28mm lens. Like I said, it takes time to master a one camera, one lens set up
It’s one of the best cameras for documentary style wedding photography. Use the touch focus and shoot and you get some fantastic shots. I’ve shot innumerable weddings with it and the best part is the leaf shutter which syncs flash up to 1/2000.
I love my Q2 and the images that come out of it. It’s with me most of the time. It’s not a jack of all trades, and won’t replace my Nikon gear but it’s a special camera ........
I recently got the Leica Q2 and I love it. I like you am a fast shooter at different events. I've had to slow down a little to let the camera catch up. I just shot a car show and was glad to see it could autofocus shiny metal surfaces without too much problem. I sometimes had to aim at the black tires to get it to focus or the engine if the hood was up. All in all, it did a good job focusing. The best thing about this camera is that I leave everything set to manual and because the three main settings are on top of the camera I can change something very fast without having to go into a menu and look around for what I want. I was constantly changing the f/stop for different situations and it was so fast to do then put it back to auto if I wanted, same with the shutter speed. I usually shoot with a Nikon D4 and a D810 and love those cameras because I can shoot fast with them. The Leica Q2 is a camera for getting up close to people and shooting slower but getting great results. It has a 47MB sensor which produces 87 to 89 MB DNG files. The JPG files set to large end up at about 12 MB.
Only just discovered this channel. Loving it, the way you share information and "teach" is much more down to earth and I love it. Especially enjoyed the food challenge video would love to see more of that kind of content. Keep it up!
I have those same SD cards for my Q2, but I’ve never experienced a 5-second lag. Shooting DNG, I get 10 shots then it slows to about 2 shots per second from the on. I wonder why it’s different. Firmware update maybe? Don’t know what else it could be.
Great vid Taylor! The only LEICA I have ever wanted is the SL...not that I could ever afford one...and even if I did have the money, I wouldn’t get a Leica...they are fabulous to be sure but too slow and too small (except for the SL).
I recommend the Panasonic S1 to try next for weddings. I just picked one up and I’m quite enthralled with it. Also, like someone below mentioned, the Olympus OMD EM1 II with the 1.2 primes are great for weddings as well. I know yours is not a gear channel but always fun to see other wedding togs try different equipment.
Cesare Bonazza It truly is an outstanding camera body and the best of the latest releases in it’s class I think. I’ve already shot about 16 weddings with it and counting. I don’t have any Canon glass but my understanding is the MC-21 adapter works great in S-AF, but not C-AF.
Steve Vansak you 100% correct I need to test if the face or body detection works well then I will make decisions also that 1/320 sync flash just perfect
Random thought while watching.. I feel like the criticism made towards Sony's menu system is an outdated critique and something non Sony users just say. I have had zero issues with Sony's menu system when I first moved to the ecosystem and while on the job. I don't see how people could ever be confused. Loved the video! I have never wanted to own a Leica, and really been turned off by the very "loud" Leica only community lol
Strongly agree. I feel the same when looking at Nikon/Canon menus. It's only confusing when you're not used to it. I just customized the MyMenu on my A7iii so everything I would ever need is there.
i have a Nikon but had a Sony for several years. I CAN say I hate the menu system in the Sony. It’s too overwhelming when you need to change or look for something. Nikon, Canon and Fuji’s menu are more simplified and easier to find what you need it. Yeah it takes time to get used to the menu and again, I’d used it for weddings and events for a few years but compared to the other cameras, it takes the longest to search.
Leica is not a camera for all your needs for sure, but every photographer need it just because if magical photos it produces. the photos look like no other camera, I am saying this as a Nikon user and lover. in my eyes Leica photos are incomparable to any other brands and it looks just like Leica. not very super super sharp but love to watch them over and over again. you afford it? go get it, fantastic
Definitely a ‘Want” not a “Need” camera for me. If I could I’d probably get the original Q as the file sizes are smaller. I would sell a kidney if the put a true 50mm lens on the Q. I would have liked to have seen some more images and video samples in the video though.
@@TaylorJacksonPhoto one of the reasons I consider the Q2 and not the Q is the weather sealing, doesnt it bother you to have such an expensive camera without sealing?
In general the lineup is a lot more photo focused. I do love the xt3 and the kit lens, but I could never do a wedding video or hybrid with it. Travel though I’m happy to use it.
Taylor Jackson I’ve actually started doing both at weddings after watching your videos lol. Definitely took a bit to get used to it but it works well. But for real thanks for all the great videos. Your channel has helped me a lot with getting into wedding photography.
No it's not. The Leica Q2 was made by Leica, in Wetzlar, Germany. There are Leica branded Lumix cameras (I have the D-Lux Typ 109), but this isn't one of them. I have the Leica X Typ 113, which was made in Wetzlar, and you could really tell the difference.

I think this was a fair and honest review of the strengths and weaknesses of a very expensive stills shooter camera.

(But I don’t use it for weddings. I use my Canons for that. This is my “everything else” camera)
I say use it just for personal enjoyment - that's what they are made for : )
Does anyone NEED a $5000 camera? nope, but it would be nice to have a Leica in my collection :-) great video Taylor, nice review
Excellent, focused review that lives up to its premise. Thanks!
Has the firmware been updated to address the manual video thing and the buffer issue??
That intro just bought you a sub
How is the AF for weddings? AF in video also
Great vid Taylor! The only LEICA I have ever wanted is the SL...not that I could ever afford one...and even if I did have the money, I wouldn’t get a Leica...they are fabulous to be sure but too slow and too small (except for the SL).
Yah the SL is very nice!

Steve Vansak I’m seriously thinking of getting one with the Mc21 adapter with my canon lenses.

Hah you might be right. I’m probably remembering the feeling of setting up my first a7s.
Strongly agree. I feel the same when looking at Nikon/Canon menus. It's only confusing when you're not used to it. I just customized the MyMenu on my A7iii so everything I would ever need is there.

Layne Singleton naw...I love my Sony but, the menu is not great in comparison to my older Nikon.
Taylor Jackson he’s not right. What you experienced was correct.

Wow how did you manage to shoot weddings at 18?
Taylor what are the fastest cards you recommend for a Canon user. 5d Mark 3 and 4?
I like the Sony Tough cards when it comes to SD for both speed and the fact that they’re not going to randomly fall apart
Taylor Jackson Awesome Thanks man. I currently use SanDisk Extreme Pro, and notice that the buffer speed is a little slow as well.
I'm gonna say HELL NAH for 5000 Taylor!!! 😂😂😂
Thank for your review 👍😊

Same. I’m now looking for a used Q. Feel like it fits better and price point is a little more attractive

Selling G wagon for Leica q2, go on..
If it had 2 slots maybe. With 1 sd slots, no way for weddings. Also if it was a 35, 28 is kinda too wide for me for 1 lens...
Another Great Video!
Thanks James!
Great video except for the comment about Fuji being photography only. Someone is forgetting about the XT3 😉
In general the lineup is a lot more photo focused. I do love the xt3 and the kit lens, but I could never do a wedding video or hybrid with it. Travel though I’m happy to use it.

yeah taylorjakson
Amazing 😍 😍 😍
I would suggest the leica SL instead
sir!!! i have been waiting for today's podcast on patreon what happened xD
Hah it’s up as of a few minutes ago. I accidentally scheduled it for 9pm rather than 9am and just noticed when I got home
Taylor Jackson 👍👍👍👍🤣
X100F next please!
I do like 35 better than 28
Hell no! I prefer Canon 1dx ii for $5000 Sony and Leica munue, buttons ,battery, buffer speed sucks
lol so does your spelling 😂
its LUMIX for Rich people ;)
