The production and arrangement on 'Kodachrome" was phenomenal. It's one of the best sounding 45s on my vintage 1956 jukebox.
These interviews are priceless. Joe, thanks for this channel!
Thank you very much Sy.... joe
NO ONE has a groove like Roger Hawkins. I just can't say enough about him. Thanks.
Thanks for watching Paul... joe
Kodachrome is one of my all time favorite songs! I've had 600 albums at one time and heard them all, I'm an encyclopedia of music and know music. It's got to be on my top 5 favorite songs of all time.
Thanks for watching JR......Joe
This one is really heartwarming. Some very talented folks who were pure genius in the studio, but so unassuming and down to earth it would be easy to underestimate them. The story about Paul's one song turning into the better part of an album helped me picture what that must have been like. Just a bunch of great musicians making great music. Nice to know about this collaboration.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts William.... joe
After trying studios in Jamaica, New York, and the West Coast, in Muscle Shoals he gets what he wants in less than 4 days. That's a real tribute to these MS guys musicianship, as if they needed any more accolades.
Thanks for watching John.. joe
Every time that I watch one of your videos I have to wonder what it must be like to have that inborn musical talent that all of those guys have. Paul Simon is yet another one of those musical geniuses. They must have had a great time jamming with him! Thanks for these videos Joe! Be well & stay safe.....
Thanks Steve... joe
I met Paul and really enjoyed him. Sometimes there’s too many people around and attention gets diverted. These guys have the chemistry to pull it off.
So wonderful These guys were great Thanks for sharing your wondrous walk of life Joe
Thank you too Nelly.... joe
I love this story. I was fortunate enough to take the tour of Muscle Shoals Sound last year and hear them tell this story while standing in the middle of the studio. In the tour, they tell you that the original studio had a tin roof that leaked when it rained. When Paul Simon first showed up, it was raining. He walked into the studio only to find the Swampers running around with towels and buckets trying to keep water from dripping on the recording console.
I'm 53 but I remember back in the 70s when I was a young kid , I would sing sweet home Alabama along with lynyrd skynyrd on the car radio and everytime I got to the verse about the swampers and they've been known to pick a song or two,
This just brought back some great childhood memories, thanks for another cool interview
Thank you Bruce... joe
LOVE the Swampers’ sound! They could have stopped at “Never Loved A Man” and been famous for all eternity. I didn’t know they were behind “Kodachrome” and “Loves Me Like A Rock”, but it makes TOTAL sense in hindsight. Thanks for sharing!
Thanks Matt... joe
If you love music, watch the movie/documentary ‘Muscle Shoals’…I personally guarantee it will be the best movie you’ve ever seen. I have bad ADD and fall asleep during almost every movie, rarely ever watching a movie twice. I’ve watched this movie over 10 times, eyes wide open, and am going to watch it many more times.
Joe, great stories from some good ol boys! Thanks!💫
Thanks as always Larry .... joe
I love your videos!
Thanks again Joseph... joe
I had no idea this was a Muscle Shoals album! What else don't I know that I'll find out on this channel? Thank you so much!
These interviews are fantastic
Great interview as Always, Joe. These musicians and those small studios were from a time where magic was created. No pro-tools or multi-tracking DAW’s...just raw live talent. Most of these greats are not with us anymore, however, their music lives on. I’m a musician for over 55 years and remembering going to the Fillmore East. Now, that was magic. I also remember vividly the night of February 9, 1964, when a new direction in music began. They were called the Beatles. My life since then was never the same. Keep up the good work, Joe. I love your channel. Be well....Phil C.
Thank you Phil... joe
Sgt Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band....is the album that flipped the music world on it's ears!
So strange I can play that album today...it still has that sense of freshness as the first time I heard it!
😁👍
Joe, you're videos and interviews are the best on RUclips...
Thanks Lee.... Joe
I love this channel and all the interviews my favorite RUclips channel. Thnx man!!
Best to you too Kelly.. joe
Thanks again, Joe! I enjoy watching these interviews. Books I buy to read now days are by ir about musicians and bands. These interviews of yours are way better than a book!
Hi Rick... thanks a lot... joe
Another nice one.
Thanks Jimmy...joe
Very cool. Thanks Joe!
Thank you Stu... joe
Another great interview, Joe. My father-in-law, whose cousin is a well-known Nashville session player, knew the late Rick Hall personally because they grew up in and continued to live near the little town of Red Bay, AL. If interested in this topic, I highly recommend people read Hall’s book, “The Man from Muscle Shoals,” and watch the doc, “Muscle Shoals.” What a great story.
Thanks Boko... joe
I vividly remember when Rhyming Simon came out.Simon never sounded as warm as on these dates.Couldnt be better
Darned shame fewer and fewer people know Kodachrome was a type of photographic film from the Eastman Kodak Co. Vivid colors that made ordinary things extraordinarily beautiful (and without drugs!) The lyrics of this song ring true..even in our digital age. So Mama, don’t take my Kodachrome away.
Love these guys! And love this story!
Thanks for watching Phillip... Joe
I like photography, and I also like the song Kodachrome. Paul Simon is a great artist. Cheers!
Thanks Joe. I wonder if Paul Simon was ever interviewed about this.
Hi Free... I’m not aware of any interviews Paul did about the Swampers but that doesn’t mean there aren’t any... Thanks for watching.. Joe
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum Do you have a way to contact Paul and see if you can interview him on the subject? That could be one of a kind.
He has had his own yo tub channel for years and recently has been posting stuff ..you mught be able to hit him up on it but i dont know. Much about him dont listen to him but just trying to throw you a potential way of asking Respect
Hi Free... actually yes I do have a contact with Paul. This time about a year ago we were having our Musicians Hall Of Fame induction ceremony and we were inducting Don Everly for the Iconic Riff Award for his rhythm guitar intro of the song “Wake Up Little Susie. Paul was flying in to perform the song with Don but unfortunately the morning of the induction ceremony
Paul’s manager called me and said that Paul was extremely sick with the flu, I wonder if he had a early case of corona? Thankfully he got over it and is doing fine but but he still had to pay $40,000 for the Learjet he had rented to make the trip. I felt really bad about him not being here to induct Don and equally as bad for him about losing that much money. Thankfully our MC for the night was the great
Paul Shaffer and he did a great job filling in for Paul Simon. I doubt that we could do a face to face video interview at this time until the vaccinations are distributed but he might do a written or oral interview about Muscle Shoals. I might look into that and thank you for the question. Best , Joe
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum Your comment is a museum piece in itself. How about @Robert Stotts' idea. Paul has a RUclips channel. You could do Zoom.
Nothing like hearing the real story from the people who weerr there. Especially when they are low key guys like these men here. I remember reading the album covers and seeing muscle shoals so many times. Years later I saw the documentary and I was mesmerized by the number of great records that were recorded there by the guys in this video.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts Skip... joe
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum Joe, you are very welcome. Revealing these stories connected to the music, brings people closer the music that they have enjoyed for decades.
Fantastic album - and I’m not really a PAUL Simon fan - awesome sound on that LP - recently bought the 180g reissue LP
please do more about this. i love that album "rhymin simon".
Thanks for watching Happy... joe
Very interesting!
that album basically saved my sanity and maybe my life at that time
The Swampers are a national treasure
Great as usual. Hey... did you ever talk to Jim Dickinson?
Hi Tusk... no I have not talked to Jim... best, Joe
Haai. Thisus Jowe Chaimburz ;)
:)
This looked like it could have been a good one. Why so short?
Hi 78.... thanks for watching... it was just all they had to say about Paul but there’s more coming .... Next one will be about Bob Seger. Best... joe
@@MusiciansHallofFameMuseum thanks
R.I.P. Jimmy Johnson. I just found out he died in 2019
👍
Thanks for watching John... joe
Who played drums on Kodachrome?
Hi T.S ... Roger Hawkins played drums... joe
Should have just paid them the four day rate for each song they worked on.
Love your interviews but the Ad Stacking is getting me down. And it's not just your video. It's many. Saves me time not to watch.
Understand. Thanks for watching. I think you can pay RUclips a small fee to make all the videos ad free. Best, Joe
Paul Simon never paid them, so Bob Seger made up for it with Old Time Rock And Roll
Hi Craig... thanks for watching... hey.., what makes you think Paul Simon didn’t pay them? They worked together with Paul on many more sessions and Art Garfunkel did as well. Best... Joe
