  • "Spooner Oldham and Muscle Shoals" is a short, no budget, 5-part documentary I shot in celebration of Spooner's induction into the Rock 'N' Roll Hall of Fame (created by Cory Pennington).

Back in the '50's, '60's, and '70's, it was just about impossible to be a Southern white musician without some of the music and feeling of the old Southern Black Gospel spirituals taking root in the soul. Just about every Southern guitar player worth anything learned to play the Blues before just about anything else. As a kid I used to listen to a Black Blues guitarist every Saturday morning on the street corner downtown on my way to the five and dime store. That's how these four white guys that made the rhythm section at Muscle Shoals playing behind Percy Sledge, Wilson Pickett, and Aretha Franklin already knew what those Black singers were about.
