    Hi and thanks a bunch for this guide. I however did not succeed in activating plymouth despite the steps you took. Could you maybe enlighten me? How did you find out at last? I notice the comment about "splash" that has to be in HOOKS!! However there is no "hooks" in /etc/default/grub. And adding "splash" in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf gives an error. Help is appreciated :-)

    • @techheart6090
      @techheart6090  4 месяца назад +1

      Ahhhh; the 'quiet splash' options actually go in GRUB /etc/default/grub ... the HOOKS line, in /etc/mkinitcpio.conf should get... 'encrypt' and 'plymouth'. THEN, don't forget to rebuild both GRUB and HOOKS w/
      sudo grub-mkconfig -o /boot/grub/grub.cfg
      sudo mkinitcpio -P
      Hope this helps!!!

    Enjoyed following along on the ride from the beginning, well done. Not a big fan of the 4 configs frankly. I mean, they were ok, but I've seen/used some I liked better. I tried the unofficial Garuda Hyprland (had to dig to find it) spin a few days ago. It was awesome, but became buggy over time. Figure I'll revisit some flavor of Hyprland again once it matures a bit more down the road (maybe I'll even come back to this video & start with a plain-jane Arch install. It's definitely a good way to have a minimal, clean, no-nonsense base for whatever you wanna do.

    • @donaldwilliams6821
      @donaldwilliams6821 6 месяцев назад

      A lot has changed since you last tried it. Garuda Hyprland is my main system OS now and has been for months. I don't have NVIDIA so it's really rock solid. In fact I formatted over the Windows 11 OS to install it. ;) After I had tried it on a backup system. There are also some really amazing rices that others have created super easy install scripts for. That work on slower release Arch distros like EndeavourOS or Manjaro. The current archinsrtall script includes Hyprland in fact. So building a clean and simple hyprland is quite easy now if you don't like the flash of Garuda.

      Let me check - I remember fixing this issue once... ahhh, I remember; Hyprland has updated a setting. You must edit "wlr/workspaces" to "hyprland/workspaces" in waybar.conf... you'll find waybar.conf in ~/.config.Hyprv4/waybar/conf. For example, edit "v4-config.jsonc" and chang "wlr/workspaces" to "hyprland/workspaces".....

      Actually I was wondering. In what way is vim better? I know it's a really good tool but personally I always have preferred nano over vim. I'm curious if there's something that I don't know. Maybe I could be convinced to use vim instead of nano.

    • @vali69
      @vali69 9 месяцев назад +7

      @@aleph.nought well vim motions is one big thing. Then there's the plugins, well I'm mostly talkin about neovim when it comes to plug ins, I don't know about vim, the difference between vim and neovim is that neovim uses lua for scripting and plugins are written in it. Anyhow with plugins you can essentially make vim however you want it to be, need version control integration? There's a plugin for that. Need to see the file tree of your project? Lsp(language server protocol) for auto completion and suggestions like in ides? Or even debuggers? You can easily make vim into a fully fledged ide if you want.

      @aleph.nought 9 месяцев назад

      @@vali69 Yeah, I have seen some stuff about neovim and it did interest me. When I get my new laptop with pure AMD I could try using neovim. Though I doubt you can make it into a fully fledged ide. That sounds too good to be true to me. I have been trying to make visual studio code work like that but to no avail and so until now I have been using visual studio enterprise on a VM. Right now I am thinking of an IDE that could work similarly if not better but on Linux, especially now that I plan to start my graduation project (pretty big one). If neovim can really work like an IDE then I might end up using it.

      Add your terminal emulator to a hotkey, to execute it.
      This is from my conf file:
      bind = $mainMod, KP_Add, exec, xfce4-terminal
      which makes Alt and numpad + open xterm.

    nvm it suсks аss. nvidia GPU support is sad and integrated cards are not supported at all. screw this half-baked thing

      I don't have an Nvidia card, so I only know that there is some support - sorry it wasn't up to par for you. However, I feel hype is quite feature-full... you might have possibly had some issues b/c of recent hypr CHANGES - I've had to tweak the Hyprv4 config files for things like workspaces to display correctly - this was because of hypr changes, and not an 'issue'...

      @@techheart6090 turns out, this problem with NVidia belongs to Linux itself...

      What you mean? I run hyprland on an Nvidia card just fine along with a IGPU.

    true arch users would never use the install script 😂

      LOL - oh stop; true Arch users know HOW to install from command line, but use scripts ALWAYS. :P

      My dot files are linked if anyone wants to see how I've expanded hyprV4 for my needs. It's a great jump off position for new TWM users that lets them see advanced configs much quicker than just 'making their own'. For example, I no longer have the 'ability' to switch between hyprv1-v4; that kind bind switches my layouts for me..

    He pronounced out /etc, but earlier he didn't pronounce it fstab. He said "nano ek cetera," but it's not "ek." It is ett with a t sound, not a k sound.
    And fstab is generally not an eff stab. It is short for File System TABle. fstab like eff ess tab.
    A lot of people say ek cetera, so he is not alone.
    But, why didn't he just say, ee tee sea?

    Gross no one wants to watch you install an OS much less arch and all the decisions you made. I thought this was on hyperland

      I'm with you, a full 13 minutes of this was just the arch install and it wasn't even a proper guide, it was the (imo) worse of the two arch install scripts. I fully expected the video to start with a fresh Arch TTY and then go through the decisions that could be made while installing and configuring Hyprland with a discussion of why they were making the decisions they did. Instead it seems like they're content to hand wave scripts they don't fully understand. I know how to find and run a script and copy a config file, this video got my hopes up.
