Is ServerPartDeals a SCAM?! [or a great way to buy Recertified HDDs in 2024?]
Come take a ride with TechHeart this week as we figure out if buying Recertified Hard Drives is a good purchase. serverpartdeals.com is one of the bigger players in the Recertified hard drive space - so we gave them a go!!
I started by e-mailing their customer support address and quickly received a reply; they helped me choose an acceptable product for my needs - we settled on Seagate Exos Enterprise 18TB drives as they would be for a NAS.
The pricing was great at almost 1/2 price of new HDDs - $169/ea. Five drives came out to around $850 and I had them in my hands in 4 days! ... we're not letting ServerPartDeals off that easily, though - check out the video to see the RESULTS of full bad b...

NixOS: Learning to build (aND dESTROY!) with Nix
Thanks. I just bought a 12tb iron wolf from Amazon. I'll be trying this site on pay day!
Nice... if you need, email them - they'll help you decide on the best HDDs for your needs. I suggest the Seagate Exos X20 line as they've been good to me; SO FAR.
@@techheart6090 from what I understand, a lot of drive failures are due to faults and have a higher incidence of happening in the first 1-2 years of operation - so a "flight proven" drive, so to speak, is actually not the worst bet.
I like the way you introduce products 😂
Thanks a ton; I'm a tryin... need to get my mic settings a bit better tho!! Glad you viewed; we're almost @ 1000 subs!
What should i do if i have 2 screens with different size
You'll just add the display, and the size you need, in your main config file. wiki.hyprland.org/Configuring/Monitors/
I dont created user accounts but at first login reqrd what to do
Create a user account?? Press ctrl+alt+F5 (or any other F key...) to open a new TTY terminal. Create a user. Login.
15 year old Arch users make better DE than this.
I don't use OMAKUB as a daily driver, but that's not what it's for. It's literally for non-Linux users, and ruby on rails employees, to quickly spin up an Ubuntu base with some extra sauce. It was also updated since the video with more options to select what software packages to install. I like it.
You'd think with all the retro/oldnet/classic banter used with these new clients, one of them would build for Windows 3.11 or DOS. I have DOS working fine using mTCP and its client, but I have to restart without loading any of it to have Windows 3.11 TCP working the internet and I cannot find a single client that works properly If only I can get Windows to understand I already have internet connectivity through DOS I would be closer to what I am trying to accomplish.
I don't fully understand your use case but I can make a video if you tell me exactly what you want covered. techheart2022@gmail.com
20 years ago you couldn't pay people to take this retro hardware off your hands. Amazing how times have changed!
You can still find fairly priced retro hardware, but the grifters DO make it harder. VCF or Facebook groups are good... And set Offer Up alerts and wait. Together, we can save retro hardware!!
I keep getting error message when I try to create installer onto usb drive.
I use Linux to burn the USB, but you should be able to use Mac no problem; I'll try to remember to post the terminal command in a reply tonight.
@@techheart6090 any update?
a grey muzzle and bbses, awesome i approve I miss bbsing back when i was in high school, 14.4K ftw haha, with 14 dialup lines, so you could have 14 people online at once chatting to each other, those were the days! Oh ya don't forget Fidonet! haha
Were still going hard in the BBS community!! Dial into 2o for beeRS!! 20forbeers.com:1337
It would be so great if we could be able to install it on Debian also
It would be easy to convert. Since Ubuntu and debian are very compatible it might even just work - but probably needs a couple tweaks. I'll put in a feature request on the github.
great video buddy
You had me rollin at the very end of this video......Dial-Up Sound...OMG that's when you know your old......Dam Im old...TY very much for reminding me...Great video bud...

21:32 let's go ❤
I am getting this machine today, and for my purposes, Ventura works just fine, but I wanted to ask: does Sonoma work on this machine with Opencore Legacy Patcher if it has the RX 580 8GB video card? I am moving from a 2012 Mac Pro 5,1 that I previously ran an RX 580 in, and I could not go past Monterey in it with Opencore. That card was only compatible with Monterey and below, while users were able to update the machine to Sonoma with the RX 570 and RX 590. Obviously, this machine supports Ventura first party from Apple even with this card in it, and I believe the drivers for this variant are different as the card is made specially for Apple computers, and not by Sapphire for Windows computers, but I haven't seen any screenshots of anybody accomplishing this on an iMac 18,3 (2017 Retina 5K 27 inch) with the RX 580 in it. Based on what you know, will this work? Thanks for the help!
So, TBH... it will work, but sometimes issues arrive. One time there was an opencore update and I did it, and it broke my boot process - I recovered, but point being... if you don't NEED the newer OS I'd just stick with the Apple-supported version. However, if tinkering is your thing, it will work and you can recover from any issues - or, bypass issues by not just blindly updating Opencore Legacy...
90% of all linux distros, could be made in that way , lolkkk ,very cool video
but i think it is for the people who don't want to manual configuration
Oh, I agree - but DHH did a great job and THIS video was about options for users who DON'T know how to easily create these effects.
ur the best techheart!!
I'll take it - what are we gonna tear into next??
@@techheart6090 I know its a pretty out of nowhere compliment but im a first time linux user and i know arch isnt a beginner distro but im up for the challange?? After going through so many tutorials ( even tried your hyprland install, but to no avail and ultimately ended up giving up which sucked...on hyprland ofc) and wikis all of them leading nowhere..So switching my goal to plasma and using this tutorial and FINALLY getting to see a working desktop..dude i say it again UR THE BEST!! As per what imma tear into next i was kinda hoping for some recommendations cause my plan was just going through reddit and a boat load of youtube videos lol..although i have yet to test out any games cz it was too fkn late!! so ill do that..anyways enough of my ramblings, im really excited to explore and learn!!
36:03 takes hit from vape
What's wrong with that???
thank you for actually not using the archinstall like every other youtuber and actually explaining how to connect to the internet LOL
For sure. I have videos covering all the arch install scripts, too!!
I genuinely hate admitting this, if anyone gets a gpg key error when attempting to install wlogout, then attempts a yay -S wlogout and gets the same error... :: Import? [Y/n] y :: Importing keys with gpg... gpg: keyserver receive failed: Server indicated a failure Connect to a VPN and try it again... the answers provided for most searches will not work but one of the threads mentions it.
Dude. It's been THREE MONTHS and they still have way too much stuff to iron out. I'm on the verge of giving up and switching to Gnome.
Really??? What is still broke - my setup is working great.
@@techheart6090 My experiences are specifically in Arch with Plasma 6 on Wayland and none of these things happen(ed) on Plasma 5 or Gnome 46. The system is AMD Ryzen 9 5900X on a B550 board with RX 6900 XT. Any modifications to the UI will not persist after reboot and revert back to KDE's defaults. If I copy wallpapers from my storage drive to the root folder for KDE wallpaper they won't be there after reboot. No changes in SDDM persist after reboot. Themes, Icons, etc will still be installed, but not set. I've also had issues with KDE not seeing my speakers that are connected through 3.5mm jack. WiFi networks that I have connected to previously will not show in KDE, but do show up if I search for them manually using iwctl. The default panel will randomly disappear if I exit a full screen video from time to time. I cannot set a refresh rate above 60hz without flickering blackouts. I've tried a couple different kernels. I've ensured things like MESA, AMDGPU, etc are there. I'm not sure at this point. Maybe there is just something that Plasma 6 clashes with in my specific hardware. I've currently fallen back to another SSD in the system running Pop 22.04 while I muster up the desire to give Plasma 6 a shot again.
Thanks man, I'm using Hyprland on Nix, have you tried NixOS? Awesome video through.. I finally understand Hyprland now..

MiB doesn't actually stand for megabits (that's Mb) it's for MebiBytes, which is 1024^2 bytes. Computers usually use this unit anyway, very few label it correctly.
I always hated this - its 1TB, not 960Mbzzzzzzz - dangit!
Very nice video i loved how you explained things, definitely wanna support your work, also i may suggest a video idea about linux ricing, desktop environment and window managers, stuff like polybar or tint2, compositirs etc, maybe a way to rice kde as well for those who want a simple to use and full featured kde environment but still like the unbloatedness, simplicity, ease of use and style of a riced wm like openbox or i may even say bspwm/i3wm. - love from Italy
OK - so... hmmmm - using polybar/tint2/waybar/other hepers AND KDE??? Or other DEs??? Those helpers kinda work better w/ Hyprland or a TWM. Hmmmm - will give thought to your suggestions.
I need a tip on the following: Lets say i got debian installed on one of my disc, and its running with grub. Now i got another completly empty disk where i want to put archlinux on, do i need to select something diffrent on disk partitions because i already got grub installed on another disk?
You'd just install a new OS on the other disk - and add a GRUB entry TO that disk. Hmmmm - maybe this can be a future video... I understand what yer asking, and it can be done... but I'd have to go thru and SHOW it.
@@techheart6090 what I tried in the archinstall, us mounting the boot of arch to /boot/efi of my partition that already got grub... but than on the install itself it aborts because it can't recognize it as an efi partition, tried to mount it to /boot to with the same error. In could always chain the bootloader, but I feel like it shouldn't be necessary in this case. Another problem for me is that yhe os prober only checks the same drive. In theory, could I just install arch on the completely empty drive, and then take the new grub entry that I have and append it to the old one I got? Or just copy paste the whole boot into the old boot?
true arch users would never use the install script 😂
LOL - oh stop; true Arch users know HOW to install from command line, but use scripts ALWAYS. :P
Don't mind me, just a nixos user trying to learn how to use hyprland from an arch video lol
Hypr on NixOS is extra fun because of where nix installs its packages - making using standard hypr themes more difficult. Glad yer here!
Wait, you have time to watch this video? Don't you have to configure your flake.nix?😂
me here on fedora
At last an intro without an obsession about terminal. looking forward to the follow up videos.
I'm working on the series - coming up, tho, we'll take a look at the new Ubuntu 24.04; I'll do it without terminal, too!
Hi, my wallpaper doesn't show up, I switched to light/dark mode and restarted but nothing happens
So... this theme was at v4 when I did this video. What it won't do is change when hypr land makes updates/changes. First, see if there's a new version of the theme on github. If not, you'll have to check the hypr changelogs for syntax changes that might have 'broken' theme config files....
I love the idea of this "museum" but it is a little heart breaking to see these classic old machines obviously neglected with an inch of dust on them (at least the times I've been there.) Too bad the Living Computer Museum down the street still hasn't re-opened and probably never will, as it would have blown you away. 😢
I wonder if they were ever fully working, or just pulled from machines RE-PC had come thru the doors... it would be so fun to help them get those systems up, stock and booting.
The Seattle store is worth the visit too, especially if you're going to drive all the way up to Tukwila - it's not much further to SODO and more of the same. Always a fun place to visit for nerds like us.
I like the Seattle location more, IMO. Thanks for being here!!
👍
Love it. Ive wanted one for so long.
I've got an update video planned, but need to finish up the hardware side of a new addition - software side is done... I've added a remote control using an original Zenith Space Command clicker and an Arduino to control the Pi/predicta.
Right, sooo.... ive found out that plymouth doesn't seem to like the proprietary drivers... have you experienced that and found a fix for this???
Which drivers; I'm assuming GPU? The first suggestion I'd throw at it is try the plymouth-git AUR package instead of just Plymouth. It's a newer version... give me more details if that doesn't help and I'm happy to figure it out with ya!
@techheart6090 I'm running the nvidia-dkms proprietary drivers, I've tried both versions of plymouth and neither worked. I think I read on an online forms post somewhere that plymouth just doesn't like nvidia. Although plymouth did work up until I installed the nvidia drivers for hyprland...
Very good. Much appreciated
this is pretty cold but it gives me windows 93 vibes
I just found it interesting because of how's it's coded - wow. Fun for a play around.
Looks like a wonderful place to be @TechHeart😍 Certainly is a Retro Computer Heaven that's for sure.
