Creating Paper Templates for Camouflage Airbrushing: A Simple Guide
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 4 окт 2024
- In this short video, we’ll be going through the process I use to create my floating paper templates as a guide in airbrushing camouflage patterns on models. This technique can also be employed to determine dimensions for custom decals and scratch building parts. A pencil, a calculator, and simple measurements from a ruler as well as a photo copier or computer printer are all that are required.
After two sets of examples, you’ll have an opportunity to try the method yourself with a given set of measurements from a model airplane instruction manual.

I would like to thank you Sir, this is in far, the most comprehensive tutorial I ever saw! This will facilitate my spraywork a lot. The only thing I have to do is, get me a new decent printer, which can print A3 format. Thank you again for this and always looking forward for your next build!
Hi jean-claude, very happy to hear this may assist you in your airbrushing and such -- and thanks for watching! 😊
I can’t tell you how many times I have referred to this video for assistance scaling schemes for masks!! I truly enjoy your videos and appreciate the work you put into creating them.
Hi Rick, not much interest in this video, but I'm glad some viewers out there are finding it useful. Thanks for the nice comments and for watching.
This is not only a great example of modelling skill but also of a great instructional video. Thank you!
I’m only a recent but happy subscriber. All the best, Ian
Hi Ian, so very glad to have you on board! I sure do appreciate your views on the template video. It's my first "classroom" video and I'm pleased that it's been helpful and instructive to many so far 😊
@@MaxAfterburner it’s a pleasure to be here😊
Max thanks for the guide, now I can really do my models without worrying about the camo detailing. Keep up the good work
Hi Yousif, glad you might find the information useful whenever it applies to your work 😃
If this video had been available when I started airbrushing, it would have saved me many hours of frustration.
Hi Silas, hope this video saves you from that heartache from now on! 😇
@@MaxAfterburner I've been airbrushing long enough now to have pretty much figured out what works for me, but I just wish this video had been available about 3 years ago.
After a few failed attempts finally got this working on my inkjet, thanks so much ❤
Hi Aliktren, glad it helped! 👍
Excellent and useful video.
This helped me to get camouflage on my F-22 build stand correct.
I used blue tac all the way around inner cut.
Now my previous builds camouflage are not that nice compared to F-22 😖😋
Thanks for sharing your wisdom
Hey Almir, thanks for letting me know. I'm so glad you found it helpful for your F-22 😃
Wasn't expecting to do maths first thing in the morning, blimey I've only just woken up lol. Very very useful video thank you Mr Afterburner
Hi Skinniest fatman, I hope you grabbed a cup of tea or coffee first! 😃
@@MaxAfterburner nope never got the chance lol
Thank for making this mate. I miss seeing your presence on you-tube. I'll get to rumble eventually
Hi Kaledrums, thanks! It's a real shame, but I think that's where things are headed. YT has a great thing going, but they want to defecate on everyone. They're drunk with power. It's as if 5 year-olds have been given control over logical and reasonable adults. I hate it and I don't like that great people like you are caught in the crossfire. 😢
@@MaxAfterburner That's a fact. Thanks again Mate.
*About calculation and masking, yes, it's a good idea and thanks!*
Hi Forever Plastic kits, great to hear from you. Glad you found this video interesting. 😇
I used this after I saw you doing it on a build a while back and love it. Thanks for all the work. 😁
Hi VooDoo Nights, thanks for sticking with this channel. I'm so very appreciative of your comments and support! 😃
Very good video, excelent explanation of the mesurement of the scales , and good tips, Keep doing the good stuff. Gretings from Portugal.😉👍
Hi MP Plastic, thank you very much, glad it may assist others out there looking for solutions. 🙂
That was great, going to try this on my F-22. Once I get done masking my F-35...
Hi Richard, that's great to hear! I hope it works out fantastic for you! 😃
What would be nice is if you talk about the solution you use for the paint in the airbrush and maybe tutorials on how to spray etc
great instructural video! informative yet very easy to understand. Thank you for another great video! :-)
Hi Jennifer, Glad you enjoyed it! 😃
Great to see we are using both the same technique. I used your inspiration on the right camo on your BUFF for my F-111F that I am currently airbrushing.
Hi Bastian, thanks for the comments! I'm always thrilled when I read that viewers are able to use something from one of my amateur builds for their own model projects 😃
Thank you so much for the calculations.....this is a very useful technique so will be storing this in the vault for the next multi camo schemes in the future. So easy....and practical. I could never get it right but with this process I'm cheering!
Hi Robbo, you're welcome! Glad it may help you in the future! 😃
The opening minute of your video Tom is such a great reminder of the beautiful models you have built. (And we shall never speak of the 747 again...) :) I really like the fact your technique can be used in so many different ways, either as a direct mask or guide for freehand etc... Cheers from your Aussie friend.
Hi Stephen, thanks! I'm glad you liked that little tutorial and model retrospective. Cheers mate! 🦘
@@MaxAfterburner I was really pleased when all my calculations matched yours!
A+
Great information and direction.
Your very talented at this art .
Cool video .
Hi Mike, there are many ways to achieve similar results, but this one is out there if a hobbyist so chooses to go this route as you know for sure! Thanks much for your kind support 😃
Such a great and helpful Video, i never could figure out how to do them by my self, so your guide is more than helpful haha
Hi Leo, so glad this may be of use for all your projects when needed! 😃
Excellent, thank you!
Glad it may be helpful! Thanks for commenting Stuart’s Hall Productions 🙂
This is really great. Jesus appreciates it!
very, very nice and ty for this.....can you elaborate some about how to go about with more then two colors please?
Hi Jan, it doesn't matter how many colors there are, it's the same process. If you're asking to see a 3-color use of the masks then I suggest viewing my B-52G model build video. 😉 ruclips.net/video/V50vngYGgXc/видео.html
@@MaxAfterburner tyvm and will do🙂
An American using the metric system because it makes more sense, what sorcery is that, lol?
But seriously, awesome video as always.
Thanks AI 😃
Thanks
👍
What about making scaling decals? I mean you want to build a certain kit for a certain country's colour but you can't find the specific markings for that particular scale.
Hi Bryan, the same process can be used for those decals. I actually do a working example in the Apache helicopter video with the 12th Combat Aviation Brigade insignia. 😉
what brand do you recommend for a beginner air brush set?
Hi Seth R., my very first "real" airbrush was the Iwata NEO which I liked very much. It was easy to use and it took a lot of abuse from me while not being too expensive. It's the one I used for many of my early model projects seen on this channel. I now use the Iwata Eclipse which is more costly and I've also found more difficult to keep clean. Many other modelers prefer Badger airbrushes. I recently retired my PAASCHE air compressor and went with the Master Airbrush TC-326T with a 3.0 liter tank which has been working nicely and it's a big step up from what I had. In the end, budget can be a big factor on what you choose, of course. 😉
@@MaxAfterburner Thanks! appreciate it.
what about pictures’\?
Custom decals
Same calculation steps apply.
@@MaxAfterburner ok thanks I want to make a mover cw leitmone f-18 fini flight plane and it is inspired by your t-38 and I will need custom decals for that
I know this is a year old, can I still ask questions
Ask away, Charles 😎
@Max_Afterburner thank you. So I have a set of instructions that say they are reduced by 60 and 70 %. Do I just double the 60 % by itself or do I add the 70 to it also
It sounds like your instructions have two different scales as printed. To get the illustrations that are listed at 60% to a full 100%, you'll have to magnify those at 167% on a copier. For the 70% images, magnify at 143% on the copier.
@Max_Afterburner yes sir. Two different images top/bottom and side. Thank you very much
