Outstanding work! I just wanted to say thank you for the respect you showed for the crew that lost their lives in '93. The F-111 has a special place in our Aussie hearts and you have done that justice. Great job!
Thanks very much, Knophler! I'm so pleased that many Australians are chiming in and expressing their overall satisfaction with the model and the video. 🙂
@@MaxAfterburner Hello Max afterburner, They said F 111 and F14 were a joint venture of Grumman and General Dynamics and the original design was based on F14 mock up model . Then two companies went their own way but the variable geometry wings ,tail wings ,engine power plant should be the same (interchange parts). I am going do it with Hasagawa 1/72 tomcat F 14 and F111 Aardvark and inter change the common parts.
And F*ck France for refusing to allow the strike team to fly over their territory, causing the crews to have to fly an extra 10 (?) hours to strike the targets…
The model looks fantastic, we Australians still have a soft spot for our old F-111's. I live in a regional area of Australia and still clearly remember a beautiful sunny day in the 1970's when I was in the schoolyard and a pair of these beauties flew overhead at awesome speed. Thank you for your terrific video. Best wishes from the land downunder. 😊🇦🇺
Hi Crypto Monkey, thanks so very much from "up here"! Great memories for you there 😊
It’s really lovely to see that the content creator has replied to the comments. This is how it should be. Amazing video too.
Hi Solar Neptune, thanks for the compliments on the F-111C video! I try to respond to as many comments as I can. Once in a great while, I have a video take off in viewer enthusiasm just as it is released and to catch up to all the reviews can be overwhelming. 😅
Great model, brings back memories. When I was in the RAF we were at red flag and the Aussies had their F-111Gs, on the line just over from our tornados. Couldn’t believe how big they were! A great model for a great aircraft! Keep up the great work 👍👍
Hi Ali, thank you! Also, I salute your service to your great country! 👑
Very nice build. I love the commentary and the info given out while you do the build. Cheers!
Hi stratochopper, I try to add additional features to the videos to make up for my amateur building skills. Glad you enjoy the format! 😃
I remember my introduction to the F-111 was via a RAAF 50th anniversary poster when I was a kid. The F-111 was the pride of the fleet back then and remained a favourite with Aussies for decades. I’m sure we all felt a little bit safer with the Pig in our arsenal. I went on to be stationed in air-defence with the army so we exercised with F-111’s quite often. Seeing them in action has been a fond memory my entire life.
A great video and build mate. I particularly liked the use of the templates. As others have said. Thank you for showing respect for the crew. For the aircraft, and for our country.
Hi thatfelladownunder, thanks for sharing your story and perspectives! So very glad you liked this F-111C presentation! 😄
Man I love the F-111. Its a beautiful & elegant aircraft.
Hi Wade, thanks for the comments! I'm quickly learning that the F-111 was a much more revered aircraft than I had previously known! 😊
I visated the gold cost in 1993 saw an f 111 fly past the apartment building where my family and I were staying
The RAAF sometimes flew the F-111s over the mine where I worked in Central Queensland. They used the flat terrain and the spoil heaps of the open cut mine to test their ground-following radar systems. There were some great shots of the mine taken from the onboard cameras. Every year for many years they did a dump and burn display at night for the Riverfire Festival in Brisbane.
@@MaxAfterburner I learned that the Navy tried to use the F-111 but it couldn't land on carriers after several attempts so they contracted Grumman to develop the F-14 Tomcat. I always liked the swept wing design of both aircraft. I wish there was a 5th generation Stealth version.
I love the fact that you include all the various tools and paints needed. Thank you.
Hi Mark, thanks, I hope it gives others a head start and some things to consider if they decide to build the F-111C or any other models. 😇
One of the best model building videos I have watched. Outstanding effort and much appreciated for its great insight into this kit. Many thanks ...
Hi murfie47, thanks for the kind and positive comments. Happy to read you enjoyed this build/video! 😊
Another beautiful build. I remember seeing these Aircraft when I was much younger at Airshows in Oz. F-111 & Dassault Mirage were the aircraft of the day. But it was the F-111 that were always making headlines for all the wrong reasons. I think 7, F-111 crashed killing 10 aircrew. Sometimes the fancy escape module saved the pilots. An aircraft well ahead of its time in design but also a very complicated aircraft to keep flying. Lots of issues with the avionics which had many of these aircraft stuck on the ground waiting repair. Lucky when they were in service they were never needed to defend the country.
I'm an ex-Airforce RAAF Aircraft Surface finisher and modeler, I have worked on F-111, it's great to see you using the basics of cammo painting, dark over light.
Thanks Guvna947, nice to get the expert view from a true RAAF aircraft serviceman. 😊
the models are back and I couldn't be happier
Hi Arbiter Lumiose, thanks for the great comment! 😃
Years ago I worked for Grumman Aerospace modifying F-111's into EF-111's. It was a slick looking plane but it was a true nightmare to work on. When the last EF-111 took off from the factory it proceeded to have a main gear tire blow out ( the U.S.Air Force was told to replace it the day before, but did not want to spend the money for a new tire ). It proceeded to slide into the woods at the runways end. The crew was fine but the plane was "bent". No great loss to the workers. Love your build video, great format !
Hi Joe, glad you liked the video and thanks for the F-111 tale! 😃
@@MaxAfterburner Thanks ! You build some real beautiful planes. I'll keep watching for more of your videos ! Cheers
Beautiful build
Thanks so much, Leapord 2A5 MBT! 😃
Just a small note,
When the RAAF retired the f111's, the super hornets took over initially as a stop gap for the strike capability, but are now a more permanent solution along with growlers.
Primary air defense remained with the F/A18 A/B's until their retirement in 2021, and is now done by the f35.
F111's had an initially rocky introduction, with cost overruns and several losses mostly due to mechanical failure in vietnam. Once these were sorted it was such a capable aircraft the soviets made sure they were included in talks since they were stationed in europe.
The f111's also served extremely well in the gulf war, where they destroyed more thanks than any other aircraft, along with fantastic strategic bombing on factories, airfields and other high value targets. If you look on youtube there are many 'gun cam' vids of f111's guiding LGB's through buildings, hangers etc.
Nice job mate! Very informative & accurate description of Australia & Australian F-111's. Growing up as a boy in the 70's in Australia F-111's have always been my favourite plane ever. I regularly visit the RAAF museum at Point Cook Victoria to see the 'PIG' they have on static display. Keep up the good work man. Cheers Brian. 🇦🇺
Hi brianhill2515 , so glad you enjoyed it! The Aussie's in particular have been very supportive of this model build video due to their love of the F-111C "Pig". I'm glad you all have a chance to visit your history at museums, it is a great thing that some of these aircraft have been preserved! The closest one near me is an F-111E, about an hour's drive away. 🤩
Thank you one of the best vids seen in a while , just about to start F-111 G Aardvark R.A.A.F. (1:72) build. Extra info in your video was great . You made 1 Aussie (love these planes ) very happy .
Hey Paul, much obliged and good luck with your build! 😇
Beautiful job. I used to be a crew chief on A/C 0382 at Mountain Home AFB, Idaho for 6 years. I loved that plane. I won crew chief of the month twice and got to fly in my own plane. I noticed that you painted the speed brake black and red in squares. The F 111 I crewed and worked on, the cut out where the main wheels retract to, that indention was black while the rest of the speed brake was red. One thing about that speed brake. Those indentions where the most comfortable to lay on for your back. I wqas engine run qualified and also taxi qualified. What a great pane the F 111 is.
Hi Jim, I was using some reference photos for a few of the F-111s where they painted what looks like a red cross pattern and the central "bar" would travel through those indentations on the inner surface of the speedbrake. The F-111 sure was a large aircraft and probably a lot of work for you guys to maintain. Thanks for your service and for sharing your background with it! 😇
Brilliant work and thank you for the time you put into research. All your information was correct and much appreciated by us Aussies, especially the respect bestowed on our two lost airmen. We all loved the F-111 and it served us magnificently for 36 years.
Hi graeme green, thanks very much. I'm happy that you enjoyed the presentation of an Australian favorite! 😉
A great tribute to a great aircraft - thank you from an Aussie. I loved the stats you gave - concise and accurate. The model as finished is quite "dirty" for an empty crew space...they would have closed her up a lot more before leaving, maybe even tucked the wings. Thats in the interest of showing what she looked like on rollout - which is great. I saw this jet in airshow mode and will never forget her. I was driving a bus to the Sydney Olympics on the opening night in 2000 across the M4 overpass at Granville when one did a dump and burn over the arena. I thought the aliens had landed! I could feel the thunder through the steering wheel.
Hi John, I'm touched by the Aussie's great fondness of the F-111. Such reverance and memories of this jet are being relayed in the comments section. All of your stories are a joy to read. 😃
Nice camouflage,as always awesome work 👏
Hi Larry, thank you so much -- glad to read your latest post! 😀
@@MaxAfterburner I have not seen many posts from you of new video's,when I do I watch them, your painting is awesome and enjoy watching them.
Max Afterburner you F-111 Fighter Bomber mold is awesome my friend 🎄
That looks amazing 👏
Hi Paul, your post is very much appreciated! Thanks for watching! 😄
I loved the sense of humor that started the video. Thank you for painting in a logical manner, by bringing together pieces of similar coloration. It defies logic how some people can frequently change colors without regard to further use of the same color again. Interesting background music. Beautiful end result!
Hi Steven, thanks much! 😊
The F111 was a workhorse for USA, glad to see the great Aussies use it as well.
Hi Ken, it is/was a very much loved jet in Australia as evidenced by their many fond comments about the "Pig".
Very beautiful and therapeutic like a work of art. This is why model building is an ongoing skill.
So very true, Jonathan!
Nice job Max glad u did it in our camo and not the boring grey of today nice 🇦🇺
Hi Helix, definitely had to take advantage of the chance to do some more camouflage work! Thanks! 😃
Your Detail work is Amazing 🤗🤗
Thanks, I learned more about the RAAF too! ✈
Boy that was superb and absolutely enjoyable to watch. I'm just starting this kit (with around 1% of your skill), so your video will help enormously. Thank you! (Subscribed). Tom.
Hi Tom, thanks for joining up with our formation! If I can do it, anyone can. I wish you great fun and success on your F-111 😊
Sweet! I always look forward to your videos! Great stuff.
Hi Lance T., always great to hear from you, thanks! 😄
LOVE YOUR BUILD OF THE F-111C Aussie PIG...🤗🤗...Hobby Boss has some good Kits like that 1..
Hi krugmeister274, most of their kits have LOTS of plastic. The F-111C set is certainly no exception! 😅
You make this look so easy! Awesome job!
Hi gonzalomendoza3152, glad you think so! Thanks for stopping by again and watching this video 😃
Glad to see you back Mr Afterburner, and if anyone is interested in seeing some videos of the dump and burn, 'brisbane riverfire dump and burn' is a great starting point for the aussie jets over a capital city
Hi Macree, thanks for the suggestion! Such an amazing display from the F-111 🤩
Great job on the model. Looks so nice with the camouflage!
Hi James Rockets, thank you! Cheers! 🍻
G'day, I was in the RAAF when our F-111s finally arrived. We had to lease F4 Phantoms for nearly a year until the 'Pigs' turned up. There was great controversy down here over the cost of each F-111. It was nearly four times more than any aircraft we'd purchased up to that point.
Fantastic to see them at air shows down here. I used to work at our air shows 'herding' the crowds around and keeping them away from getting too close to the aircraft. I remember doing the first available F-111 kit down here. They were a 'hot' aircraft. Happily, they spent all their time in the RAAF without firing a shot in anger. Our pilots really liked them. The ground crews not so much. A lot of them got sick after having to get into the fuel tanks to do vital repairs. It's wasn't a good outcome. Cheers, Bill H.
Hi Bill, thanks for sharing your stories! 😃
one word for this ......STUNNING !!!!!!
Hi Shaun, thanks much for the magnanimous comment.
its always a joy to watch your builds
I very much appreciate the comments Mehdi J, thanks! 😄
Freaking beautiful I'm from Brisbane and I had the chance to see the pig close and personal in several airshows and also at the RIverfest every year!.... Only the pigs were performing the dump & burn and that will stay in every aussie's heart for the rest of our lives!.. Cheers..!
So very happy that you liked the video and that it has brought back wonderful memories of the "Pig" for you 😃
I only ever saw F-111's at airshows in the '70's and they didn't do the dump and burn back then and I'm Australian.
So it's not in ever Aussie heart
The dump and burn will be missed at Riverfest. It was a highlight. They would come screaming along Ipswich Road and pull up.
Absolute beauty of a plane, great build and narration!
Why thanks, "Deer" 😉
Hi max amazing job. With the pig love. That camouflage 🇦🇺🇺🇸🍺
Cheers, mate! 🍻
I saw one of the last dump and burns before the 111 was retired from RAAF, just amazing.
Awesome model, and as always love the combination of modelling and history lesson / story time.
Hi AI, thanks, I'm glad you like the format! I never got to see a "dump and burn", and it looks and sounds like I missed out immensely. 😌
Nice to see that you are back!
Hi Ian N., thanks! 2020 wasn't a good year for the channel and my country has been going down the drain rapidly for the last couple of months IMO. Hard to get motivated sometimes!
Nice work
Hi Michael, thank you! Cheers!
what a precision simply amazing respect
Why thank you, danielmateusz9293 😊
Beautiful model, the F-111 is such a cool airplane. Also I love your choice of music for the video, Amazing Grace is a beautiful song.
Hi Tiger 131, thanks! The 'pipes and Amazing Grace were made for each other. 🥰
Always loved the aircraft and history about it's develoment and entering service! I also love the chill atmosphere and vibe your videos have a much needed thing in these days. Thanks You and greetings from Croatia!😉
Hi TheKrakovv, so glad you enjoy the format! Thanks for watching 😊
Absolutely awesome!
So very kind of you. Thanks José César 😊
Turned out amazing.
Hi Mr B, thanks! This was my first video in over a year that has been reasonably well received and got some decent viewership numbers. 😃
F111is my first love! Admire from down under!
Hi 刺向黑暗的微光, glad to have re-introduced you two 😉
Fantastic looking model
Hi Dan, many thanks for your kind comment! 😊
Another superb build and paint job of an elegant and curiously underappreciated 'plane, Max. We await your next project eagerly
Hi Stephan, great to hear from you and thanks for the kind comments! 😃
Beautiful work on the F-111
Hi Rich, thanks a lot! 😊
Just came across this ,absolutely stunning . Seen a B52 fly with our Vulcan bomber at RIAT
Hi jasonbaird3848, cool and amazing, that must have been quite a sight! ✈️✈️😀
I never thought I would be so attracted to a pig! Flawless job!!!
Hi Emmanuel, thanks so very much! 😃
Great job sir as always! Great to see you back!
Hi Julio, great to hear from you again, and thanks for waiting so long! ⏱️
Great vid, always enjoy your builds!
Hey David, thanks a bunch! 😊
Bloody outstanding work...again.
These jets were incredible to see up close.
Me and my mates would be rock fishing....and 2 x F111's would fly over the top, scaring the crap outta us. Happened a few times.
Then the night a stray .50cal came roaring through the RSL Club one arvo/early night.
Hi Robbie H, sounds like you got some wonderful and personal air shows! So glad you liked the model too! 😃
...BEAUTIFUL JOB!..Love The F-111 and EF-111...~~!!
Hi there Carlos, thanks much! Glad another F-111 fan has enjoyed this one 😃
Outstanding build, Max - well done 👍 - I hope mine turns out half as good 😅 More on that in a moment...
My fond memory of the F-111 was from the 70's - 80's. I lived near a large valley near Lismore (NSW) ... as a little bloke, I could hear them coming, usually at night, flying by terrain radar I would assume. Going straight over our house at about 200 feet I'd guess. All you would see was the two big burners disappear down into the valley on their way back to Amberley. Just awesome.
I recently visited Evans Head Aviation Museum, which is located far north coast of NSW Australia. They have a F-111C on display - A8-147. Tim was an excellent guide. Anyhoos - they're struggling a bit financially, so to support them a little, the the family bought me a model kit - same as the one here - 1st one I've done since I was about 10 😉
Anyway - I'm starting to do my research for my build, A8-147 & the one in Darwin I saw (A8-113) have gloss black nose cones, not matt - Can someone in the know confirm that for me ?
Thanks in advance & happy model building 👍 ...
Hi TheQuinny67, so glad you enjoyed the build video and that you have many great memories of the RAAF F-111Cs during their active times. While A8-147 and A8-113 have glossy nose radomes now, they indeed have been highlighted like this from their original matte standard. Many aircraft museums paint their aircraft exhibits in a gloss finish to include the fuselage sometimes even though most active military aircraft serve with a flat paint coat. In fact, a retired F-111E near me is super shiny like a sports car in a dealer's showroom! Best Wishes on your build! 😀
@@MaxAfterburner Thanks for the update 👍
wow another masterpiece! Your video is very instructive and I love every tips and advices that you give out throughout the video. Keep up the wonderful work :)
Hi Jennifer, thank you! Cheers! 😃
Remarquable réalisation ...Bravo !! Superbe ...
Salut Robert, merci beaucoup, très gentil! 😃
Nice paint job,, I have the exact same kit sitting up on the shelf,, Your video motivated me to make a start on it.
Hi Tim, time to get to work! 😅
Good looking plane man. Outstanding job.
Hi Bart, thanks a lot! 😊
Great build and video.Thank you👍🇬🇧🇺🇸🌏🌎🌍
Glad you enjoyed it, thanks The majestic magnificent !
One big and beautiful model again.

Outrageous.
SOOO KOOOOOLLLL .
Hi Mike, thanks, great to hear from you! 😃
Beautiful!
Hi isfj1009, thank you! Cheers! 😊
Awesome build.
Hi Rick, very much appreciated! Thanks for taking the time to write 🤩
Built a model of this and gave a speech on it in high school in 1968. I ended up working on them as a USAF instrument/autopilot technician in Mt. Home, Idaho.
Hi John, it was Fate! 😉
fantastic build
Hi Raymond, I'm glad you like it! 😃
Sweet build. Really interesting paint scheme on the planes too
Hi Bhji Hhu, thanks, glad you like this one and it's great to hear from you!
Really enjoyed that 👏🏻
Hey c8136132, awesome, thank you! 😇
What an excellent build! I have HobbyBoss’ 1:48 EF-111 in the stash, you’ve inspired me to take a look at it!
Hi Mega Jayquaza, I hope it continues to speak to you and that you have fun once your build begins! 😊
I got this same kit from my local hobby store as a consignment kit, I was allowed to look through the box to make sure everything was there and it seemed like it was all there, so I bought it. I got home, super eager to build it only to notice that there was no instructions. I will definitely have to use this video as a guide building mine!
Hi AceMartin 20, there is a copy of the instructions uploaded online:
www.scalemates.com/products/img/1/6/0/107160-93-instructions.pdf
I hope that helps 😃
@@MaxAfterburner Thank you very much!
Awesome work as usual.
Gosh, thanks so much Blane! 😃
Been watching quite a few of your videos, needless to say, very informative and enjoyable! Very exceptional work in my opinion.
Hi MrMrScotti, thanks for the kind words of support and encouragement! 😃
Wow a Great Testament to the Pilots who flew those Planes. Well Done Sir.
Hi Stephen, thank you kindly 🙂
A great build video, mate👍🏻
Some well researched information written throughout the video as well.
A fantastic looking build👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Hi Ray, thanks! After overall poor viewership for the channel in 2020, this F-111C video may beat every one of them in another week or two.
In the early 90's i used to live the New England area of NSW not far from where the crash occured..their navigation skills with that aircraft were amazing..one morning one came across a small creek at the bottom of field..down the side of our farm house then continued up a valley into the New England ranges..later on in the afternoon the same airfraft did the exact reverse of what it done in the morning then off towards Queensland back to its base at Amberley
Great skills and abilities! 😊
I love the F111 too.
Everyone down here in Australia, old enough to remember them, does too.
My late father worked, as an engineer, on the evaluation team that chose it.
Hi Household Dog, thanks for the comments! 😃
Nice!.. we used to get RAAF F111's at Kiwi airshows... thanks mate. 👍🇳🇿
Hi All Good, happy that you enjoyed it! The F-111C/G is so fondly remembered by the Australian and New Zealand peoples 😃
Australians all let us rejoice. For we are young and free, we’ve golden soil and wealth for toil. Our home is girt by sea, our land abounds natures gifts of beauty rich and rare. In history’s page let every stage, advance Australia fair. In joyful strains then let us sing, Advance Australia Fair.
super job like always!
Hi Hans Christian Ben, thanks! 😄
Tom, you done good! I remember being at an airshow many years ago when one of these did a "dump and burn". You could feel the heat from a hundred metres away. You see- you should have done something Aussie a while ago. All of us have come out of the woodwork! Bet you never realised how many of us watch your videos. Cheers from you know where. :)
Hi Stephen, it seems like I haven't heard from you in awhile, hope you're doing great! So true, this "Pig" has been a great success with the Australian crowd and I'm very happy that you're all enjoying the video and that it's reviving some terrific memories 😉😊. 🍻
@@MaxAfterburner Thanks Tom. Hopefully in the future there may be some more Aussie themed builds. Keep safe!
Great Video! I enjoyed it some much that I went off and bought the kit along with PE seat belts.
Hi Mark, thanks for watching and for your e-mail. 😊
Relatively simple but fantastic job. I am gonna try some techniques of you on my next builds.
Hi Jan, great! I hope it helps a lot and that you have much fun! 😊
Thanks for this and I am certainly going to use this to help me build the one I just ordered - though I hope I can come close to 50% of the quality of what you had done. I am wanting mine to serve as a memory of A8-128 which crashed near Tenterfield in 1987. Pilot was part of a family that my family was close to.
Hi Vaughan, I wish you great success on your build and tribute to a family friend. 🙂
Outstanding n decent kit with detail👍same model but Academy kit, I choose F111G 6 squadron, one of best models I had done.
Hi Jamie, thanks, glad you liked it. Happy that you are pleased with your F-111G results! 😄
Great job Verry nice work
Hi Marcel, very happy that you've enjoyed this build. Thanks for watching! 😃
You make wonderful and great creations.
Great work as always! BTW your blizzard f-16 provided a lot of technique inspiration for my f-16c/n in the Arctic Aggressor scheme!
Hi Chris, that's great to hear and thanks! 😃
Brilliant!! Finally an Aussie aircraft and how good does the pig look! Or flying oprahouse. Many thanks!
Hi Dean E, many thanks! 🦘
From nearly the very beginning (about 6 or 7, when my dad bought me my first non-snaptite) I’ve not used parts that will never be seen and aren’t needed for structural reasons, so I have plenty of greeblies for my scratch built just for fun stuff.
Kit bashing time!
great job
Hi dippin1, thanks very much! 😃
Top work as always. Was a sad day watching the stripped out fuselages being buried near an industrial area due to build up of asbestos and therefore could not be scrapped in the traditional methods.
Hi tomcatter11, at least some were saved for posterity in the museums and such. 🐨
What you say makes sense - although I thought it was because they had the ability to carry nuclear weapons and had to be seen to be destroyed because of some treaty agreement. Of course we never used them in that way. A great pity and a real shameful ending because of petty bureaucracy.
Asbestos can be removed.
What was the major issue is the chemical used to seal the fuel tanks.
In fact the major reason they were decommissioned was the legal action against the RAAF by the service personnel that had health issues due to the chemical
Great job mate!
Hi Joshua, thank you! Cheers! 🍺
Brilliant 👍👍
Hi Allan, thanks 😃
Good job 👍
Hi Sprue Fascination Channel, thanks! I hope you're well and thanks for stopping by once again! 😃
When I was in the U.S.Army back in 1982 while in Germany stationed at L.Clay Concern, I was standing outside of my motor pool building. I just so happened to look up at the gray over cast sky and saw a black dot off in the distance. Within seconds that black dot grew in size and flew over head about 200”, and in that brief glimpse I recognized it as a F-111. As it started to recede I was hit with a thunderous boom. The sight of this enormous jet going supersonic with full afterburners glowing a bright orange was one the coolest aviation experience of my life. This jet shook the whole base with everyone running out of the motor repair shop thinking that we just got nuked by the Ruskies.
Hi Peter, thanks for sharing that wonderful memory with us all 😄
Thx for the video , as allways wery informative 🙂
