Even in cases where none of these apply, someone still has to report it to the police and in some cases the prosecutor needs to press charges -- leading to lesser charges. Finally, if the girl is pregnant (at 17) it is highly likely the girl and parents won't wish to press charges as you being in jail doesn't help support the baby. Even religious parents might be pressing for marriage or at least you around to support your kid. States have parental permission on marriage at low as 15. You can drive to another state if yours doesn't allow 17 year-olds (rare) or get a judge to sign off on it -- almost automatic with a pregnancy.
This said, if you are dating 21 year-old ladies these days, the onus is on you to do a minimum of age checking.

Well let's be brutally honest it's a subject of a topic that needs discussed, when people on like George lied about his age. How is she supposed to know short of checking HIS ID, which spoils the mood when your thinking down there instead of up between your ears. its not black and white it's awkward shades of gray when it comes to stuff like this. We have to consider what about blossoming romances as another example where one person in that relationship that started when both parties were to young to consent sexually, comes of age, is a crime really being committed because they weren't born the same year but are only a year apart. The legality however of the scene in Young Sheldon, well, I'm British and age of consent is 16, its engrained in British culture that when your 16 your old enough to make your own choices, doesn't mean you'll make good one's admittedly. But the same can be said about the US Age of consent, 21, make your own choices. Doesn't mean you'll make good ones.

Yeah, she shows him the pregnancy test to show that she is knocked up. He does not believe it. She shows the other test she peed on. Georgie goes to talk to his grandma's boyfriend about it. He tells Georgie "Are you sure the baby is yours?" He is positive that it is his. His grandma's boyfriend puts doubt in his once again. He goes back to the girlfriend and asked, "Are you sure the baby is mine?" and that pissed her off. Georgie's dad notices he is acting weird, and talks to the grandma's boyfriend about. They grandma's boyfriend confirms to Georgie's dad, that Georgie confined in him about something. Georgie's dad is a little disappointed that his son did not confine in him. At home Georgie sees his dad, and his dad let's him know that whenever he needs to talk he is there. Georgie eventually gets out that he got someone pregnant.

I gotta say that when I was 29 (Or even 23) I was totally grossed out by the idea of dating or sleeping with a 17 year old boy. In fact, I knew a girl my age (at 23) who was engaged to a 17 year old boy. (And I usually would say guy but he had the maturity of a 12 year old. No lie)
I babysat an 8 year old boy at that time who acted more mature than the 17 year old. He was a jerk. He never was mean or rude to me but I hated the way he treated the girlfriend/fiance. He would yell and lose his temper and smack her around. He called her every name in the book.
Yet she continued to be with him. Hopefully she broke it up before they actually did get married but I only knew them for a couple of months so idk?
But years later, I met this guy at a church whom I assumed was a few years younger that me. I thought he was 26. I just turned 30. It was a long crush and we didn't actually speak for a long time, and when we did talk a little we never shared our ages. At one point I confided in a friend and she told me that he was only 20. And at first I was pretty grossed out, but I've already had a good 1.5 years developing feelings for him.
Nothing came out of it thank God I'm sure. But this story makes me think about him.
