Fun fact I forgot to mention now that you've completed P3:
Nyx is actually a galactic entity called a "Star Eater" that had a chance collision with Earth back in the ages of simple organisms. Nyx's body became the moon (which is why the moon itself has that giant eye when Nyx descends) while Nyx's psyche ended up on Earth.
The waves of Nyx's psyche conflicted with the organisms, which caused the organisms to evolve much more rapidly and gain their own to fully combat Nyx (basically the origin of humans). This caused the creation of the collective unconscious, which is why places such as P4's midnight channel exist.
All "gods" (such as Izanami) you fight in Persona games aren't literal Gods, but byproducts of the collective unconscious that humans subconsciously create when worshipping said Gods.
Shadows are fragments of Nyx's psyche that became so deeply rooted into humans that a human will essentially "die" without it. This is the origin of Apathy Syndrome from P3.
The prophecy of the Fall comes from Nyx's physical body (the moon) reuniting with her psyche on Earth, which would cause the death of all humans.
Nyx could only be sealed by the Universe Arcana. A galactic method to seal a galactic threat.
This also makes Nyx the strongest entity in Persona, and potentially Shin Megami Tensei as well, serving as the origin for Shadows/Demons throughout the series, and is even above Philemon in power.
Is this…really canon? That’s pretty high concept for Persona, as wack as it gets sometimes.

No lol, Nyx isn't the strongest entity in the franchise. Nyx is actually one of the weaker entities, and Makoto Yuki who sealed Nyx is only around Aleph level. Nyx isnt really that strong, any SMT character past the 2nd game > Nyx, and plus Philemon is literally GOD. I don't think Nyx is stronger than God, since Nyx was defeated by someone as weak as Makoto Yuki(Philemon created everything and made the Velvet Room, and Igor is his assistant) who was given power from Philemon's mere assistant.

Regarding Persona Q2, a fun tidbit.
Each 'era' of Persona has its own dedicated vocalist - you did notice that both P5 and P5R had the same singer, but (as you probably noticed playing the games), it's the case for each group of games.
Said people being Yumi Kawamura (Persona 3), Shihoko Hirata (Persona 4) and Lyn (Persona 5).
The opening song of PQ2, "Road Less Taken", is actually sung as a quartet, the three female voices being Kawamura, Hirata, and Lyn - giving the song the same feeling of crossover the game does. (The fourth and sole male voice on that song being Lotus Juice, a rapper that contributed to all three Persona eras)

Personas are based on Stands actually, not the other way around. They appeared a couple of years before the first persona game was actually made. Also, Non persona Users can see personas as long as they are in the Cognitive World, is extremely rare that a Persona appears outside of it unless the Cognitive World and Normal World fuse or start to do so.

Just gonna point out, all of the protags are usually refered to as "Hero" or "The Protagonest" since you can name them anything you want; But they all have canon names. Persona 3's protags are 'Makoto Yuki' (the blue haired male one featured in all versions of the game) and Kotone Shiomi (the female protag added into Portable), the Persona 4 protag is 'Yu Narukami', and the Persona 5 protag is 'Ren Amamiya' or Joker as which is his Phantom Theives codename.
Most (or all, I'm not completely sure) protagonists actually have 2 canon names.
For some reason they give them different canon names for the games and the anime adaptations or mangas
@@Dxs4all the ones I listed are the most commonly used ones officially. On that note Joker has so many different names since they use different ones for the stage play every single showing.
They also have manga/alternative names, which we're considered canon before the anime came out.
For example, Makoto: Minato Arisato. Kotone actually heve two alternative names: Minako Arisato and Hamuko Arisato. Yu: Souji Seta. And Ren: Akira Kurusu.
Minato and Minako actually are more popular names and are more used by people. For P3 protag, it's duo to the fact that manga came much earlier than the anime, and for FeMC, if I'm not mistaken, she only recently got a canon name. In both Yu and Ren's cases, the manga came out in the same year as the anime adaptation with a few months' difference. However, while Yu is a common name in the fandom, I saw only a few people who used the name Souji. While with Ren, it's fifty fifty.
The protagonists actually have more than one name each. Like Makoto is also Minato Arisato, Yu is also Souji Seta, and Ren is also Akira Kurusu.

From what I understand about the "guns" in persona 3 is that they're essentially persona summoning training wheels. In the traditional fighting game spinoffs, they can summon their persona for a few seconds without it, but they use them for their instant kill finishers so they last more than 2 seconds.
The only exceptions for this rule is the girl with short teal hair, who I believe only used it for her first summoning, and the blonde robot, who never needed one at all
And the Dog has one in it's collar.
Yeah basically the closer to the regular world you are the tougher it is to summon and maintain your Persona. The Dark Hour was basically a tiny pocket of the Collective Unconscious being slapped onto an area so it still very much the regular world. When the P3 cast go into the TV World they're much deeper in Collective Unconscious and thus can summon way easier (plus it being several years of training later helps since Fukka is able to use her Persona in the regular world and scan other worlds as well easily by the time of P4). This is also the explanation for why in the Q games they basically go back to level 1 since they're in a part of the Collective Unconscious that technically shouldn't exist but is deep enough to easily summon and take on Sub-Persona as well.
The evokers are shaped like guns to remind them of the very real possibility of death while taking down Shadows

Btw, Persona 3 opening tells you that your gonna die in many different languages. That's why you see things like "Memento Mori" and Spanish etc. Memento Mori means; "Remember You Must Die" which is a huge spoiler.

lol. Yeah, each of the Persona games are known for being extremely dark, and they all cover different mature themes -- especially ones that teenagers constantly struggle with. It's honestly an awesome series though! But regarding the Persona 3 openings in particular: I do believe that title is renowned for being the darkest Persona game, and for good reason.

You may have learnt it since watching these but that quote about person dreaming of being a butterfly in the original Persona 1 opening is a fairly famous buddhist koan, typically meant to question the nature of reality and identity (basically: Who is the one actually dreaming?), basically forming the 'cognition based' themes all the games follow
I did not learn that first part but that is extremely interesting, I actually like that, and I haven’t gotten a chance to touch upon any dancing games or Q2 (I wanna finish persona 5 first), but I played some of Q1 and I LOVED it, so I’m looking forward to it !

Persona was inspired a lot by jojos actually. Jojo's has inspired many things in media along with a lot of classic characters from street fighter. Awesome video though and I hope that you enjoy playing the games if you ever get into them!

I know it's too late now but the butterfly is in reference to a character who to my knowledge only appears in Persona 1 and 2 as well as being a hefty dose of symbolism. If you're enjoying 3-5 I'd suggest you at least play Persona 2 Innocent Sin and Eternal Punishment but only play Persona 1 if you're REALLY into the series. I nearly dropped the game too many times to count but I got through it

No, he appears in all the Persona Games. Philemon replaces Lavenza and he watches you in the school grounds in Persona 5 if you pay attention. Philemon is also in the Velvet Room, and he's visible when it's destroyed. Philemon is also like always in Persona 4 and not even hidden, plus he plays a big role in Persona 3, so Philemon is a pretty prominent character.

I know Philemon can't directly intervene but I've found so many people who think Igor is some sort of big boss when it comes to Personas and don't even know Philemon exists
Burn my dread is very memorable to me. It was my first persona game.
All the Persona games (at least 3 through 5 but I'm pretty sure 1 and 2 as well) are all set in the same universe with a shared timeline. Set in '09 for 3, '11 for 4 and '16 for 5. There are a few minor characters that have background narratives (like Tanaka going from corporate bigshot to TV shopping channel host to online black marketer, poor guy) and they usually give nods to what the casts from previous games have been doing in the new ones. And yes, there are crossover games where old cast meets new that are... I'm not sure there are any that explicitly contradict each other so they're all technically canon.
I’ve played 3 and 4 since this video was recorded, I loved both, (the playthroughs are in the description), but I’m glad that the universe is shared, it makes it so much better, I’m also a sucker for crossovers so this franchise was perfect for me

i know i’m not the first
p3, p3 portable, p3 fes, and the new p3 reload all use gun summoners called the evoker by placing it to the temple of your head and pulling the trigger. this was the chosen motif for p3 and it’s sub games as accepting one’s death, knowing and realizing that it is inevitable, and overcoming the fear of it
p3’s more lesser known spinoff is p3 dancing moonlight, a rhythm game
persona 4, and p4 golden is about crushing tarot cards to change one’s future, defying the possibilities
this also extends from p1 and p2, as far as i know? the only reason it was changed in P3 was for the whole accept your death theme
the only reason i didn’t include p4u/p4a is cause it’s a fighting style game, much like mortal kombat or street fighter or tekken stuff like that
same reason for p4 dancing all night, it’s a dancing game, much like p3dm
p.s. p4’s mascot of the game is kuma, meaning bear from japanese, but english localization team came up with teddie
pq is a mashup between persona 3 and 4, including and inviting both characters crews from both games into one
p5 is about unmasking your true self, ridding the world from evil and corruption one bad guy at a time. the whole unmasking thing imo goes both ways, as for the protags being “unmasking my true self, amongst all evil, triumphing above all wrongdoers for their own personal gain” and the bad guys as “unmasking YOUR true self, making you confess to your sins and having you repent, asking the world for forgiveness”
p5, dancing star night is you guessed it another rhythm game, like dancing moonlight from p3 and dancing all night from p4
p5r, or in japan the royal is a continuation of regular p5, new stuff gets added, tweaks and all
p5 scramble (or strikers as per localization team) takes place a year after the events of p5 and p5r, introducing a new combat system straying away from turn based to a free fight
pq2 is the same as the one before it (pq,) but this time instead of only p3&4, it adds p5 into the mix too

One important thing to note is that whenever you're seeing a "remake" or another version, it's usually because they ported the game to newer hardware. In the cases of Persona 1 and 2, their remakes were to bring them to the PSP rather than the Playstation 1. For P3, there were two remaeks, FES and Portable. I think FES went to the PlayStation 2 and Portable was the PSP. Persona 4 was Playstation 2, and Golden is now on most devices. P5 was Playstation 3/4, and then Royal brought it to all platforms.
In each case, they always went back and added new content. P3 was a bit odd, since FES added a whole second story that took place after the end, yet P3P removed that, added a second protagonist arc, and removed the entire open world to replace it with a point-and-click travel system. P3 Reload looks to be a more proper remaster for current hardware.
I made the same mistake of thinking Persona inspired JoJo's Bizarre Adventure, but it's the other way around

Great video! Also, yeah, I am also fond of P4’s music moreso than the other games. Actually it’s the reverse. Jojo and stands came before Persona. Persona is heavily inspired by Jojo with SMT elements. Persona came out the same year as Pokémon in Japan (1996) whilst Jojo, specifically part 3 which introduced stands, came out in 1989.

Each Persona game MC has a canonical name. Makoto for 3 Yu for 4 and Akira for 5. While Hiro/Hiiro (seen it spelled both ways) is a name hero isn't a name.

Classicsona was more focused on philosophy and psychology then later games, heavily focused on it, with a horror esque atmosphere compared to later games, with more psychedelic visuals then future games and far more symbolic visuals, it should also be played in order as it builds off eachother narratively

Because the Persona 4 dancing game is Canon it means that canonically everyone is a better dancer than anyone in Persona 3 or 5

I know you reacted to these months ago, and even more month beyond that, and this has already probably been said. So please don't take this as like me yelling or whatever. Jojo Stands started in 1989, the first Persona game came out in 1996 so Persona drew inspiration from Jojo in that regard.
