In a way, the Persona games mostly occur in the same timeline, with some exceptions.
Persona 2 is split into two timelines due to what happens at the end of the first of the Persona 2 games, with Persona 3 set in the timeline of the second half of the Persona 2 timeline, while Persona 1 is in the timeline of the first Persona 2 game.
And Persona Q2 includes the female protagonist choice in the first Persona 3 remake, where you could choose between the male and female protagonist for drastically different interactions with NPC's and relationships to develop. The Persona Q games being crossover games between 3, 4, and 5.
The Arena and Arena Ultimax games are also crossovers between 3 and 4.
Persona 4 the animation was actually the one that put Persona on the map. It was very niche before that.
Persona 5 was announced for a 2014 release date and didnt come out for 3 more years.

Persona 4 the animation both openings (the p4 anime one you saw was the "golden" animation, it's different lol)
Persona 4 arena (the first one, you saw Ultimax)
Persona 5 dancing
And persona q2
They're pretty great
Persona 1 and Persona 2 Innocent Sin are in the same world, Persona 2 Eternal Punishment is the start of the new world that includes Persona 3, Persona 4, and Persona 5. I would go into more detail about Persona 2 and what happens, but I don't want to spoil that game. For me, the best story in the series is the Persona 2 Duology~

@@KyubiCrasher it’s basically a symbolism to unleashing their Persona. The Evoker is a symbol of death, accepting death and knowledge of mortality. When facing the fear of death, their Persona will appear for battle. But it only works in the Dark Hour. (P3’s version of Mementos.)

@@Son_Joe_ProductionsP3's version of mementos isn't really a good way of describing that. Mementos was based off of Tartarus but the Dark Hour is more or less its own thing

Persona really found its identity with p3, you do have to realise that persona is a SMT spin off
To make it very simple, each game's story is a different genre
The main difference between SMT and persona is, SMT deals with end and rebirth of the world itself, where persona is more of a localise birth of an impending doom
It still take a lot from earlier games tho. P5 take so much from P1 and 2 it’s pretty funny
