they didn't even misread market trends. They'd have made the insane sales they expected if they had actually stayed consistent with the quality they were putting out in terms of updates and DLC. I remember the exact year I noticed support starting to go away. Back towards the latter half of the WH2 life cycle when DLC's started to take 6-8 months to come out where before they were consistently coming out every 3 months and with major Patches and overhauls dropping in between.
A lot of those delays was due to covid tho. And I don't think it hurt the game really, the absolute peak of the game and it's playerbase and community hype was the warden and the paunch

something that most people aren’t factoring in is the issue they have with the engine tools, and how much that hampers their productivity. I’ve heard that it’s like a skaven machine that’s held together with ductape and string.
The engine was originally built for Empire total war, so the fact that single entity monsters even function properly, let alone feel good to use is insane

Hey man, glad you are jumping back on the video train but consider our perspective - content creator talking about dealing with burnout but ready to come back and then said content creator saying 'hopefully 5 or 6 videos a week' I mean you do what you want to and what brings you joy but do consider that might be setting down a familiar path of future burnout (again).
I wish they did this retrospectively, or at least for SoC, I would've purchased Grand Cathay
Less content for future DLC does not sound ok, when there might be 4 dlc left. I want to see Arbaal, Skulltaker, Neferata, Nagash, Todbringer, Thanquol as LL's, so the new outline kinda blows the whole expectation. Arbaal and Skulltaker might probably share the LH + LL spots in Khorne DLC, but would CA add Neferata and Nagash with a 2 LL per DLC model? probably not. I mean, how would that even work theme-wise? There is also the fact Slaanesh needs his own DLC, so that is a quarter of potential spaces less.
Soo, on one side CA is convincing on that they want to deliver quality content (they said that in the blog), but on the other their business want to cut support to the game (as heard by certain rumours), even when there is potential demand for more content for Warhammer 3.
THe expansion would have been a good thing if it wasn't anti customer based.
In terms of your burn out. I think all of us need to realize its the natural reality of playing essentially the same game for 8+ YEARS.
MOST people rarely play live service MMOs like world of warcraft for that long. Let alone a far more static and finite game such a TWWH.
Its been such an eye opener to have new friends joining the franchise only to be confused by the bitterness of many within the online community that have the opposite of nostalgia goggles on after playing for 100s if not 1000s of hours.
These friends are still preoccupied with enjoying learning the mechanics of the game to be upset about the tons of minor issues that most of us focus on. Just like we did when we jumped into the game for the first time.
I think the community needs to stop expecting to receive infinte enjoyment from a finite product. I see community members who have essentially lived in total warhammer for years now, and these people always seem to be the most angry at CA.... no game is going to be able to fill that role/hole in a satisfying way - youre setting yourself up for disappointment and anger doing that.
Take your time bro, remind this at the end is just a side job or something like that, its not like youtube pays you for doing content, you actually work for free for them if you think... So I'm a little late to TW:W3 news, I took a hiatus after Shadows of Change had such a terrible launch. And I just read the patch updates for Shadows of Change, and got excited that CA are correcting their issues. And I just watched your video on what to expect from Thrones of Decay which got me even more excited. But my question is, in the patch notes they mentioned they'll be releasing a fraction of the DLC with the rest coming in a patch. Are we to expect this to still be the case? Or is everything up in the air now?
the implication is that the changes to how it will be bundled will be all together but there is no real way of knowing that until it is release. from what the blogs said there was nothing saying that the DLC will need a patch like Shadows.
I really hope they deliver on the amount of content. SoC was really lackluster even with the added content. There was no overhaul of any of the Tzeentch faction mechanics, that outside of niche situation, were not that impactful to the gameplay. I hope they re-work the Empire and dwarves so that they are not going to be stuck with TW1 mechanics of 2010s

Think this is a good shout, but also don't mind paying £25 for a good 3 lord pack, I loved having everything back when I had more time but I haven't had a chance to play this year and think the last time I played was the mortal champions of chaos dlc which I loved and would happily shell out as much for as much again for the hope of getting 30ish hours out of it a year
I understand that WH3 is going to be the last of the warhammer series, but I hope that we continue to see continuation with adding factions, events, races, and additions to the map over time. WH series I feel is the epiphany of fantasy RTS/TBS games.
I would be glad to see them go back to Warhammer 2 style DLC. Only being able to put out one DLC every eight months or whatever is fucking brutal, and means that when they make mistakes they really hurt the series, in a way they didn't for like Queen and the Crone or the OG Beastmen DLC when you knew another content drop was coming next quarter.
all the devs are working on tww40k to bake it as fast as possible. the onlyway to have said devs back to tww3 would be for thrones of decay to fail hard. if the game doesn't sell, they die, meaning that if ToD doesn't make the money they need, they will be forced to have their dev produce content that will. if ToD sells, they can just buy time, produce one or two more dlc (8/9 months apart from each other) and then kill the game when 40k is ready.

@@poyloos4834 Except that it's not the case. The game is already on a skeleton crew. If ToD fails either CA dies or they actually put their dev behind tww3, pushing back the launch of 40k but giving us actual content at a decent pace. It's their only money maker, if it doesn't make money, they're done and that's an excellent leverage for us as consumer because now they are forced to listen to us.
If we say "fuck your futur projects, until this game is really done, we want premium service" they will have to obey and that's why, in my opinion, ToD failing is the best thing that could happen for tww3
@@Drakenn100 that’s just not going to happen. We can’t hold them hostage bc our influence has dwindled and sega has already gotten involved. Everyone and their fucking mother knows that a 40k total war game is going to do tremendously well, even if the fantasy fans in the corner go on strike. We’re a cash cow that’s running out of milk in their eyes, and shadows of change kinda proved that. We get 3-4 more dlcs, and they either do well or they don’t, but the quality of them post-launch is more or less dependent on the wh3 team’s state at that point.
@@poyloos4834 I think you're wrong about us having no leverage, we never had as much as right now. They have a company policy of never dropping their prices and yet (even if it's 2€) they dropped the price for throne of decay. It shows they just can't take any more bullet and they're ready to bend the knee to the demands of their consumers, because the survival of the studio depends on it. But you could very well be right. The futur will tell us.

We'll see how the reveals go, but based on SoC I'm still waiting for these DLCs to have their price match their value. To that end I sadly think it's a good idea to reduce the size of the dlc given the quality of effort being put into the overall game state these days.
I still wonder if CA realizes how many of us never thought the DLC's were spot on in value and needed those big 'free' reworks to races to justify the day 1 purchases. All I have these days is the FOMO from using the units before the inevitable balance hammer reduces the flashy new units' effectiveness.
Less employees doesn't necessarily mean it's going to be harder, slower or worse quality. My organisation just fired half its staff and reducing the bloat has raised productivity. Sometimes shedding what you don't need or what's unnecessary is the best move a company can do for productivity.
Even tho I have no plans to play WarHam until late summer, I'll buy the DLC on release to help CA. I might not like what they did, but I dont want them to go under either.
These dlc better be spectacular if one race here is worth as much as norsca for example

2 factions dlc are 10€, not 15. And now it's gonna be the price for just one faction... The idea of having the otpion of buying just the faction you want is very good, the price is still too much though... "it's inflation", doubling the price for the same amount of content? for a video game that sin't affected by the ukranian war (the only real life reason inflation happened, that a lot of companies used to raise the prices of their products, no matter if they were impacted or notby said war), this is just ridiculous. they haven't learned a thing...
Regarding Inflation and the shithole UK has become its probably more close to 15 Euro right now without any extra greed involved .

While the layoff situation is quite lamentable for the workers involved, wasn't there 400 people working on Warhammer 2, which is more or less considered peak of the franchise? Due to it's and 3K's success, CA overzealously doubled their size pretty much. Now, 40 percent of that is going and another 200 are going to remove redudancy. That puts us back to pre-expansion levels, more or less. Seems to me the issue is more CA's reckless expansion and hiring people it couldn't afford.
We were promised a Norsca rework and still have nothing.
Instead of trying to jump into doing 5-7 videos a week after being gone, the smart thing to do would be just do 1-3 vids tops a week for a bit. Don't manufacture the pressure to do something you just got over from being burnt out on. The quality of the videos will be better as well as your own satisfaction/mental health.

22 dollars is not a fair price for a few units for several existing factions. You can buy several older full AAA games with that money. Also you can instead get one of the many massive sandbox games, like Kenshi, with a few more dollars Dwarf Fortress, Rimworld, and many others. 10 dollars would have been a somewhat fair price for the full package, not 22.
Will shadows of change be target of the same minipack treatment that thrones of decay is going through?

Bro, I always appreciate your in-time responses to the news around TW events but my concerns are merely the price of the next DLC or anything like this
I mean we have nearly 7 years old DLCs already that have nothing but skin and bone and nothing has been done for them to make them even slightly good
We have Skarsnik and Belegar both of them are battling each other for the eight peak that are later on joined by Queek and since then the only mechanic that they have is Karak eight peaks not captured vs captured and the only difference is when not captured you suffer penalties and when captured you just become a normal faction
Could you just believe it?
Man the thing that pisses me off is the fact the CA didn't even bother to place a reasonable buff or bonus for capturing the eight peaks to compensate for the suffering that you bear for reaching this goal
They could give Queek at least a bonus to his clan rats for example no upkeep cost for all clan rats factions wide just like how vampires get zero upkeep skellies
You could give them buffs for melee heroes specifically chieftains and make them much more resilient under clan mors after capturing karak eight peaks
By this simple change clan mors strategy could turn into a very lore-friendly state of having vast armies of clan rats and melee heroes that are notoriously better than other Skaven clans
Or in the case of Skarsnik, you could give him extra buffs to his goblins to make them at least on par with Grom's Gobos or even exceed them after capturing eight peaks
You could unlock ambush attacks for Skasnik and all night goblin war bosses under the crooked moon faction after capturing eight peaks
And in the case of Belegar, he could get flat buffs to all his forces after capturing the eight peaks or receiving valuable runes every certain turn
In Karak, eight peaks all of these 3 factions have a unique landmark building that literally does nothing worth building except for Skarsnik
CA could create a small mechanic based on capturing and holding the eight peaks that could engage all 3 of these contenders into it
For example as Skarsnik when you captured the city an invasion would happen after 10 turns by the forces of the other 2 opponents and from then on the bonuses for capturing the eight peaks would get better and better every 10 turns till it reaches the maximum benefits after 50 turns of holding onto the eight peaks consistently
In these 50 turns, you had to defend it every 10 turns from the enemies and this could give extra challenge to your campaign
This takes nothing from the CA to implement but they do not do it
Honestly, these things are the real reasons why I am so mad at them in this stage of the WH TW life cycle
WH3 is one of those flag ship games of CA hopefully they do present more characters into the game and maybe make a remastered version of WH3

As for Nurgle and Slaanesh DLC, the biggest thing in my opinion if filling out the missing Chaos Lords, Chaos Sorcerers (as well as the Lord versions) and Exalted Heroes.

Hey Milkandcookies, love the channel - just so you know, 'redundancies' means something different if we're talking about SEGA Europe or Creative Assembly. In the UK we use that word to describe what you would call a 'layoff' in the states as opposed to two people doing the same job. It's like a polite way of saying: 'here's a month's pay... you're fired.' I worked at SEGA in QA early into their acquisition of Total War and many people didn't even get redundancy payments when they wanted to downsize because they didn't have a proper employment contract. Things may have changed now but many of the staff were on 'zero hour' contracts at the time. I can distinctly remember half of the QA department gathering around a statue of Sonic the Hedgehog to be told that there would be a 'reduction in hours' after the project was finished, which is a polite way of saying: 'Thanks for all your hard work, you're fired.' They had a pretty ruthless approach to staff back then and I have feeling that nothing has changed but you can bet that most of the 'redundancies' will be testers, who are at the bottom of the food chain. The best way to find out for sure is by looking at the Game Credits between this and the next TW release.

I always enjoyed your Warhammer content, but I lost my passion for the game a while ago with their downturn in quality and increase in prices taking things in the wrong direction. I say this as someone who has played hundreds of hours between the Total War: Warhammer games and has bought almost every DLC available.
I'll still likely play these games again in the future, but my passion for the future of the series has evaporated. That also means I am less likely to watch videos on the game, personally.
This is something I think is shared by many people who have enjoyed these games in the past - we don't trust the developers to keep delivering on what has been a beloved franchise.
That can affect the popularity of channels like yours, and I know that you personally have had many of the same issues with how the series has been handled.
Personally: I recommend you try branching out. Maybe create a second channel if you haven't already and start uploading just random games you play (like Helldivers) there - I would definitely enjoy watching those. You can still create total war content here of course but I feel like the entire franchise (not just warhammer) is in a very unsure position at the moment.

Burnout sucks. But it's better than hiving up altogether
End of the day, the price they're asking just isn't reasonable no matter what they do. In CDN, they're asking almost half the base game for this thing, plus tax. I'm glad they at least are splitting it into parts, but it isn't enough. And based on their releases so far, there's almost a 100% chance they don't provide that amount of content. And even if they do, who wants to throw that kind of money out there in this economy on a a game we've already spent so much on? If they were asking remotely realistic prices like they used to, people would be alot more willing to jump in.
Nah I'd rather spend the money on the upcoming Age of Empires 3 DE DLC later this year. More value per dollar for sure. The devs of this franchise could care less about improving the base game, let alone providing DLC that are worth their price.

Somehow, I doubt people responsible for the poor changes are the ones who were hurt by the layoffs. And I doubt it will be good for the game, having less devs that actually work on the PRODUCT.
If CA just heard what Sven Vinke said maybe they could avoid this in the future.
I'll be honest, I feel somewhat vindicated by CA getting nailed, but I feel bad for the employees. The total war warhammer trilogy has some of the coolest assets in any videogame, but after the god tier Grom and Ikkit Claw expansions they didn't seem to find that state of art systems again to make the game feel fresh afer all those years.
Hopefully they can revert the trend with Throne and also sellthe last DLC at heavy discont so people who are happy with the last buy it too.

I see trend in a lot of online content from creators who make amazing stuff after some time. This is a message from a random Northern Irish guy. Stop beating yourself up. A six to seven year delivery of content to the amazing technology of the internet, digital media, gaming, is an incredible effort to be proud off. You are human not a mechanism, and even mechanisms wear down. Even singers who make their own heartfelt songs can get sick performing their own songs after the 20th time in the week for months, you have been creating content for years, I repeat years which had kept up the date with events and have been engaging, fun and entertaining. wish they would implement this for shadows of change then I might buy it. SOC is over 40 dollars in my region and I'm sorry but that's insane for a dlc pack of that nature especially with the initial content.
I'm still not spending a dime until Nippon arrives. I want a complete map. Until then this is just Three Kingdoms waiting to happen. Which is tantamount of political suicide, sure, but not out of the card deck.
I think seperating out the factions is a great Idea. I probably would not have purchased the DLC but now I will be certainly considering the dwarfen part. But in the end it will still come down to if it is any good.... which I am not conviced of
