You both inspire my husband and me; our first official retirement trip will be in March 2023, and it's a river cruise from Amsterdam to Basel, Switzerland. I hope our retirement will be as exciting as yours has been for you.
Sounds wonderful Debbie we wish you many happy trips in your retirement 🥳 can we ask which company you booked the river cruise with ?that’s one we would love to do are you staying in Basel after the cruise Cheers 🍷🚢🍺🙂✈️
@@ThisIsOurRetirement We are booking with Viking because our friends love the trip they took with them back in 2018. In Basel, we are staying at the Hyperion hotel because it was chosen by Viking, and our friends are doing the 3-day extension before they fly back home to San Francisco. We are only staying in Basel for one night because we are taking a high-speed train to Paris and spending a few days there before heading home.
I set out to do Portugal and Spain in Oct/Nov 2022. It ended up being 4 months total all over Europe with a side trip to Singapore and Turkey then back to Europe and onto Austria, Slovenia, Italy, Croatia back to Portugal and onto London to see some shows. The majority of the travel in Europe was on buses and trains. I'm a 71yo solo female traveler and heading to Mexico this weekend! Cheers!
Sounds great! glad you enjoyed your trip Vandana , we are busy looking for train deals we have wanted to do the Canadian 🚂 and The Ocean for a few years now Cheers 🍷🚂🌺🍺
I know you're not asking for travel advice, but you talked about trains and I have to put my two cents in! Take the via train from Toronto to Jasper, rent a car and drive down the Icefields Parkway to Banff (take a few days in Jasper and Banff - it is so beautiful!). Then take the Rocky Mountaineer from Banff to Vancouver. (If you did it in the reverse order, even better!)
Hi Tina and Norm :) AWESOME VIDEO!!! Your fan Mary from Toronto here. Wowww... I haven't done too many "train" trips.. Oh you know Via Rail to North Bay LOL or to Old Montreal. I just looked up some of the other train trips you spoke about. Holy! I didn't even know about these kinds of adventures. They sound incredible! So glad I am a subscriber to your channel. Thank you for sharing your AWESOME experiences. Mary :)
Thanks for watching Mary glad we are giving you some ideas to do in your retirement, we loved it and in the off season prices are very good , have an awesome weekend Cheers 🍷🚂🙂🌺
I really loved hearing about the different things you’ve both done and your future bucket list wishes down the track. We love train travel too but haven’t done too much of it yet. We did the Ghan last year in Australia which was very enjoyable and I recently watched a video on the Canadian train trip you mention which also looked great. We’re going to Montreal on Monday which will be our first time in Canada so very excited!
We just got back from Madeira, Portugal. The Carnaval was on in Funchal and it was a great experience. We would highly recommend visiting during Carnaval or Flower festival.
One of our very favorite train trips was from Anchorage, Alaska up to Denali. We stayed three days in Denali, there was so much to discover! The train ride is through stunning vistas and you see lots of wildlife along the way.
retirement goals! My partner and I are 5 years out! We are enjoying your videos and dreaming. Did Lagos this past Christmas! Think it's time for you to do Arizona, Utah and Cali
Thanks to both of you we just spent a month in Portugal and loved every moment. Rented a little car and drove all over the Algarve and from the south to the north. Your videos really helped us. Looking forward to going back next year maybe for 2 months.
Greetings from Halifax We will be traveling by train on the Canadian from Toronto to Vancouver in late April It’s been on our bucket list. Since you mentioned it in your video, we would love to see you on it as well.
I agree. Doing Japan this upcoming spring on Celebrity. Alaska was so wonderful 😍 l have done east coastal Canada and USA 🇺🇸 ❤️ 😍 so fun. Did 15 day from LA to Hawaii and back! I've done Mediterranean Italy, Greece and Malta, South of France..amazing!! 2024 and 2025 will be great too. I want to do as many as l can!!
If you love train travel, highly recommend the shinkansen in Japan during Cherry Blossom season (end of March-April). Beautiful country, wonderful people.
You are so blessed to have these experiences! Do you ever use travel agents or travel guides? Perhaps you can make a video that tells us how you learn about where to visit and how you decide what to see while there. Thank you for all you share with us!
We have used travel agents for 🚢 cruises Kathy and some land tours ie China . Most of the trips we book direct with companies and just pick places we think we would like to visit Cheers 🍷🌺🚢✈️🚂🍺
We don’t travel at all. The only place we ever went was to Mexico many many years ago and that was a trip my wife won on the radio. Travelling is not important to us. Good thing because we couldn’t afford it anyway. Happy that you guys are able and love it so much. 👍👍✌️
Travel is expensive, it’s the one thing we budgeted for in retirement. We don’t drive new, expensive or big cars, just have a small hatchback that is economical. Thanks for watching so many of our videos! 😀😀👍
Thanks for the list of nice places you have been to. Some of these are on our bucket list. Budapest is beautiful and their public transport is very efficient. We did not have to wait more than two minutes for a tram. We like Prague a lot as well, but our favorite is Algarve, Portugal. We have been here since beginning of Feb (third trip) and will be here another month. The weather has been chilly and windy though. It is going to be warmer soon- hopefully. Other favorite trip was a road trip from mid-west to California, partially on gorgeous Route 66
We hope the Algarve warms up a bit for you Suleman, we are missing being there this year hopefully we will be back next winter , have a wonderful weekend we just had a big snow storm 🌨 ☃️ in Southern Ontario Cheers 🇨🇦🍷🇵🇹🍺🙂
It's intriguing to hear different perspectives on what "travel" in retirement means. My wife and I each retired at age 50. At my wife's age 65, in 2018 we hiked the entire PCT and we're still traveling actively. Last year we circumnavigated Andorra, then walked to the Mediterranean following the GR11. We've never been on a cruise, preferring instead to set our own itineraries, but to each his own.
@@ThisIsOurRetirement We didn't have any children, although not intentionally, so that helped. I'm a fellow UK expat. by the way, living in Southern California. If we'd stayed in the UK we'd probably all still be working!
@@Maria-js9ou There are two established hiking routes that circumnavigate Andorra. First, there's the GRP, that my wife and I did, but there's also the more recently-established Coronallacs variant. We had a great time. Andorra is a fabulous country to visit in summer (and winter, if you enjoy skiing).
I enjoy listening to your travel stories. You give me many great ideas. I highly recommend attaching a land tour to an Alaska cruise. We enjoyed the land tour as much as we did the cruise. Denali is beautiful and the train ride to get there was a great experience.
Great trips. I just returned from a solo trip to Thailand (I saw my brother there) and we travel to London together in May for our 20th anniversary. I have been to London before and love it. Thailand was a first and I loved it x10. Inexpensive food, transportation, tours and massages (😊) wonderful weather, friendly Thai people, great food, incredible temples and landscapes. Highly recommend!
That’s wonderful Barbie, we were going to go to Thailand just as covid hit, it’s still on our bucket list. Glad you enjoyed it and got to visit with your Brother.
If you ever do an Alaskan cruise again. Get off at Skagway and take the narrow gauge railway. There’s a lot of history there and the train used to travel to Whitehorse. It doesn’t anymore, but it travels to Carcross from Skagway, AK.
yep long way to Australia and NZ but well worth it and nice on the cruise too hope you enjoyed our country yep the weather on the sea can be rough but we dont get much snow the people here very welcoming nice to hear of all the other places you visited too *full viewing🥸Au🤖left a like 👍*
Thanks for the great tip: The Zephyr sounds just the job for us. ‘That other island’ as you put it in NZ is called The Mainland by the people who live here. The big travel shock has to be , Post Covid prices when compared to pre Covid.
It's funny Jim but when on camera we don't use scripts and sometimes the grey matter just goes blank lol Thanks for clearing that up 😂😂 You are right travel prices are shocking!!
Re- the train through the Rockies, your best bet is to take the Rocky Mountaineer from Jasper to Kamloops (2 days) As it travels during the day hours, overnights and continues to Vancouver Day 2. Unless things have changed VIA travels at night through the best of the Mountains. VIA from TO to Calgary, then do the Mountaineer. A former TD who did the trip multiple times a year for years Good luck and Enjoy whatever you decide
Thanks for the tips! we actually like the idea of sleeping on the train 🚂, even though yes you might miss some scenery we hear the food is amazing and hope to find a deal Cheers Jacqui 🍷🚂🌺🍺
You would have come to Dunedin, on your NZ cruise, where I live? Faithful subscriber. It’s good to see the cruise ships back post COVID Great to see the channel is really growing.
I have been watching you guys from the beginning of your Chanel and just think you guys are so fun and genuine. ThaNks for all you share! Love this video!
Hello Viktoria, we didn't mind the prices in Iceland as it gave us so much!! Train journey is on our radar and we will do one soon! We hope you get to experience one too!
We highly recommend the “Grand Train Tour of Switzerland”. That’s where we fell in love with train travel and it’s so efficient. We did 3 weeks last year and hit all the highlights on trains. It will be hard to beat.
Wonderful video! We have a couple of questions about preparing for longer trips.... How do you make sure your place is secure and looked after -- do you ask a neighbour? What about the fridge/freezer -- do you empty them of food? We've only taken one two-week trip for our honeymoon (to Nova Scotia -- on The Ocean!) but we've always dreamed of taking longer trips and the questions about preparing our home for our absence have always stumped us. Maybe you can do a video with tips for preparing yourself and your home for long trips?
This was one of the main reasons Pippy that we sold our house and are now renting a lovely Two bedroom apartment, our insurance required someone visiting every 24 hours and there was the unexpected maintenance and expenses of home ownership. We are now free to just leave the apartment and travel with no worries about anything as the building is looked after by on site superintendents life is great Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
Hi.....enjoy your channel. I did the 3 rails trips you were speaking about. I took Via Rail from Vancouver to Toronto. Thoroughly enjoyed the trip and the service, I had a sleeper which I would highly recommend. On that trip, if I were to do it again, I would go in the opposite direction from Toronto to Vancouver and I would take some time to stop for a day or so in some to the towns we stopped at along the way. I also took Via Rail from Halifax down to Toronto, overnight with a sleeper. Again, very enjoyable. In the US in 2018, I took the California Zepher from Chicago to San Francisco. It actually stops just outside San Francisco can't recall the name of the town and you get transport to SF. Also had a sleeper on this trip and did not find the service or food as good as on Via Rail. I have since heard they have stopped having full dining and it is now more like microwave or something. (something to check on further). Do not think I would take another Amtrak trip and I live in the United States. Another thing to be aware of on Via Rail you have to adjust your timing to when they have service going in one direction or another. Both Amrak and Via Rail (when I traveled) had private waiting rooms for sleeper car passengers which was nice. Enjoy your future travels.
Thanks for sharing looks like you have done all 3 train trips 🚂that we would like to do glad you enjoyed them and interesting how you talk about the difference between Amtrak and Via rail Cheers 🍷🇺🇸🚂🇨🇦🌺🍺
We're thinking of retiring this year an you have given us several great ideas for us to include in our retirement trips. Thanks for the great video and ideias. Cheers!
@@grandpa_eric I do agree. We are traveling but my husband is a reincarnation of John Wayne so we are always out West. I really would have loved The Villages but not now. Too big and $$$$. Enjoy your days of adventure when you can find them. Even if it’s just a ride on the Cape May Ferry!
Another topical video! We just returned from a fabulous 5 weeks in New Zealand. Toured the entire South island using the train system run through Great Journeys NZ. Highly recommended, such a beautiful country and so friendly. The flight is a quick 14 hours from Vancouver into Auckland. We're off to tour Ireland in June. After that, the Mediterranean, can't wait! Keep up the great job, love your videos and the tee's.
Sounds great! 5 weeks there would be wonderful, we have seen parts of Ireland 🇮🇪 on a cruise which we really liked would like to go back and you can never go wrong in the Mediterranean Steve Cheers 🍷✈️🍺🚂
Hi Tina and Norm. Great information regarding cruises to different places. I only went in one cruise and that was to Bahamas. So I can't comment... As far as the train I once flew from Orlando to Seattle than took a boat to Victoria, CA for a day. Then took a train from Seattle to LA. First class with meals and a small quarters to sleep in. I didn't enjoy the trip. The train went through the mountains (??) in Oregon during the night it was terrible. The shower was okay but nothing spectacular. The food was nothing to wait for to eat. I was so happy to get to the destination. After that went to Hollywood (did not impress me), Disneyland (too small compared to Disney World). I did enjoy Vegas. While in Vegas I took a bus to the Grand Canyon. Very impressive place. The trains on the EUA are not as good as the European. I will not take another ride here. I liked the trains in Europe but not so much in Portugal. That's my soap opera for today. 😁🤣 BTW, I am leaving to see Uncle Sam on Tue. BR was good but is not for everyone. It was good to see friends and family but is time to buggie.. ✌️✈️🍷
Thanks for sharing Tony and so glad you have had a great trip to BR , we are still looking for that dream train 🚂 trip have a safe trip home ✈️and see you next week Cheers 🇺🇸🍷✈️🇨🇦🍺
Thanks for sharing this compilation of your retirement travel Tina & Norm! You've been to many great places but I'm missing more footage from your different trips though. Looking forward to your upcoming train trips. So I hope you'll go for that soon. Greetings and have a good day! // Bertil.
Hello T&N, love hearing about your trips, I crossed my first border when I was six in those days children were added to their mothers passport, how I wish I still had my mom's old passport. I love ,love to travel mom use to say it was very educational, me I say fun fun ,but as I am approaching 68 I find it a little more difficult with mobily and aches &pain, but still keep pushing. My bucket list is Hong Kong ,Australia, and Morocco. We'll see you next week.
That is awesome! keep those dreams alive on your bucket list Barbara we loved Australia and visited Morocco on a cruise ship 🚢 it was also stunning . Perhaps cruising might be a good option for you if you are having mobility issues take care and have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🚂🚢🍺
I had to laugh, we in the south island of NZ think we are the main island. Glad you enjoyed our country. Auckland has been having bad flooding lately. Our small town gets cruise ships visiting all the time. Yes I agree Alaska is lovely. In fact you need to do at least one cruise in a lifetime. I flew to Anchorage and cruised down in 7 days. I love hearing your experiences. Keep up good work. 👍
Yes we have seen the flooding in Auckland on the news looks really bad , we had a great visit 🇳🇿and agree if you only do one cruise 🚢 do Alaska just stunning . Have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🚢🇳🇿🍺🌺
Always watch you guys. Done VIA train from Toronto to Vancouver! Wonderful experience. Done Amtrak boarded from Washington DC Union Station, LA , Texas, Arizona, Louisiana etc. Wonderful experience. Make sure you take the sleeper couch or first class. Excellent service, friendly people. Plenty of good food. Met some wonderful people. Simply loved it. Done few of those European cities, Paris, London, Vienna etc. Of course. Bucket list now New Zealand and Australia. And a few others. Enjoy your video. Always. Enjoy life ♥️♥️♥️only one life to live. Bye
We did the Vancouver to Toronto on via rail….so fun! We booked a sleeper room for two, recommend this. Food was awesome and the staff were great. Also since retirement…Vietnam, North India, amsterdam, Zimbabwe, lots of Mexico , south India(just returned from this a few weeks ago…amazing!) toured the maritimes ( in conjunction with the train trip). No cruises…just isn’t our thing…..maybe when we get older….although I would consider a river cruise. Now I need to book our next adventure…..besides our yearly trip to Mexico…. I’m thinking Morocco, Egypt, Sri Lanka, Jordan…..hard to decide.
What time of year did you do the Canadian train 🚂 trip, we would really like to do this . You have also travelled to lots of places as well glad you are enjoying your retirement Cheers 🍷🚂✈️🍺🌺
We love cruises, on board twenty minutes away from our home- so convenient - you cannot beat the value on cruises - on board credits, drinks, food, entertainment all included. We have done the same trip eight years in a row - 7 days to Bermuda - never gets tiresome. Train trips are next on our bucket list - Amtrak to Boston and Washington - hope to see you on-board.
Thank you both for this content, I enjoy your weekly posts, specific to this video, I am curious on which travel providers or travel agents you used that you would recommend for the trips you have completed. Best of travels & look forward to more of your clips
We have booked a few cruises 🚢 with Expedia in the past and others with the cruise company direct , a lot of trips we just book it all ourselves the flights ✈️hotel etc John have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🚂🚢🌺
Thanks John that is very kind of you to say that. We book cruises through Expedia cruise ship centres and earn points through them. We research hotels with Expedia and Tripadvisor and May book direct with the hotel. We get the Travelzoo email every week and subscribe to a number of airlines for their offers. Thanks for watching.
Thanks for the video. I'm glad you enjoyed your trip to New Zealand and Australia. It's great that you were able to retire early so that you could do lots of travel before old age aches and pains set in making travelling more difficult.
Thanks for watching Diane, seeing some of Australia and New Zealand had been a lifetime ambition we were able to do and we are grateful to have experienced it.
Nice shirts! What fun you have had, and good you are planning more! I got to watch these travel videos from a man named Rick Steves, when I was working in a nursing home, lol. I would put the videos from RUclips on in the living room and everyone would be watching and talking, and it got me dreaming so much about travel. They are done really good, and you might enjoy them as well. Love to you and all!
Hi Jodie! Rick Steves is THE travel channel guru, what great TV shows he has done. Now if only we could get someone in a nursing home to put our channel on 😂😂 Always great to hear from you, have a great weekend.
@@ThisIsOurRetirement I can't put your videos on in a nursing home, because I am retired now, sorry, but that is funny. I tried to put things on that did not have a story line, because many with dementia cannot follow it. You will have to put some out that is just walking around somewhere, or cooking so any cognitive level can watch without getting frustrated because they don't understand what is going on, lol. No insult intended or anything, but movies were hard on them too.
Great video folks! My wife and I are recently retired at aged 60 and loving it. We plan to walk the Camino de Santiago later this year on the Camino Frances. Have you ever considered a walking or hiking trip?
No we are not hiker’s although Norm did walk the Pennine Way as a school boy, a two week hike. Good luck on your hikes they are both through stunning scenery.
I loved the idea of the train trip through the Copper Canyon in Mexico, and found a great tour out of Phoenix. It all looks fabulous and well done. But in digging farther I discovered that Canada has a don't travel advisory for Chihuahua province. So I'm thinking not!
What a nice overview of your travels! You saw some amazing places. I want to do all of these trips. Now, I have a few more places on my bucket list. This makes me even more eager to travel. :)
Norm&"Teen", you guys are consistently AWESOME!Thank you for sharing. I think you're due a commission on these recommendations. Well Done!❤ Thank You.👏
I did Montreal to Halifax by train. I also did a cruise from Montreal through the Maritimes that ended in Boston. Both were wonderful and highly recommend. Love your weekly videos.
Hi Norm and Tina 🇨🇦, Please consider a discussion about the costly (but absolutely necessary) rising travel insurance costs, especially for those 65+ and 70+. Even if older travellers are slim, trim, non-smokers and in perfect health travel insurance is getting to be a significant aspect of the senior travel budget. I have friends who can no longer afford travel due the fact they may have one or more minor health issues. I’d like to know your views on this topic.
Hello Jancy, We did talk about this recently and it is a problem that prevents many seniors from traveling. Here is the video ruclips.net/video/IZDT12oe47I/видео.html
Try Mexico and Texas in one trip. There’s a cruise out of Galveston or you can go to the big bend area ( Marfa). March/ April is rodeo season in Texas! Lots of great ones… including the historic rodeo in Houston. Trail rides, chili cook-offs and Tex/Mex cuisine!
This is why I want to retire to be able to travel to places. I want to explore more of Canada since this is a beautiful country and also visit other nations. I have not thought to much about taking a cruise since early in life I came to Canada having to cross the north Atlantic on a ship. I still remember it being a rough journey. Mind you after hearing your story I may think about a trip like that now. Thank you for sharing your adventures.
Glad you enjoyed our video Ann Canada 🇨🇦 is wonderful that’s why we want to do train 🚂 travel here , actually the river cruises 🚢 just recently started from Canada to the USA 🇺🇸 sound very exciting too Cheers 🇺🇸🚢🇨🇦🍷
Hey guys, wonderful to hear about your trips. We’ve done several of those trips, Alaska cruise etc. We once spent two weeks in Scotland, had a car for part of that. Such a fantastic beautiful country. We’ve had several wonderful road trips, Atlantic Canada, and the west coast of the US and the southwest. Beginning of April we are flying to France to spend time with our son and his wife and our new granddaughter. We’ve rented a villa in Spain for a couple of weeks and the rest of our family will join us. Then off to Amsterdam for ten days. Cheers you two. Faithful subscriber here.
Love all the travel video Tina and Norm, we are closer to retirement and travelling is definitely on our list to do. Used to watch your Portugal videos from home, now finished watching this video in the Algarve after spending a week in Sao Miguel, Azores, thanks to both of you. The trip has been great so far and highly recommend a trip to the Azores as lots to enjoy and film there assuming you haven’t been there. We will be here and Lisbon over the next 10+ days before returning home. Have a great week.
We are glad you are enjoying your trips to Portugal, we have been the Sao Miguel and also Terceira we have videos on these too. If the weather is nice in Lisbon consider a train trip to Cascais or Sintra. Thanks for watching our videos we really appreciate it.
hi norm and teen, i like you came to canada in the early 90s. we are around the same age, i am hoping to retire early next year at 65 and planning trips, probably scotland this year. thanks for the tip about paying stamps to get a bigger pension. i did work in the uk before moving to canada. hoping to do the train trip out west too.
A few years back I learned of an Amtrack train that travels north/south across the USA. The train has sleeping quarters and dining options, but also can take along the personal vehicles of passengers. When you arrive in the southern US, you get off the train relaxed and have your personal vehicle with you. I always thought that was would be a very interesting thing to try. Thought I would pass it on to you for possible consideration.
The thing about cruises, like all travel really, is single travellers get hammered with pp pricing, effectively meaning paying twice the price. Few lines offer single rates (ie. studio staterooms). NCL is one. Love , love, love Edinburgh. You should consider the Rocky Mountaineer. (Completely separate company from VIA). It’s pricey but would be a good option for the slow go retirement years. They have itineraries through the Canadian Rockies and down through Utah and Colorado.
We have heard Murray that some singles apply to say they will share a cabin if the cruise line finds a match , often they don’t so you get the price as if you are two 🤔🤔 We have a soft spot for Edinburgh as Norm was born there Cheers 🍷🌺🍺🚂
Great story. What about a stopover? I was on every continent at leat twice, but never have made it to Australia because of the long flight. I might need at least 2 stop overs!!
It is a long flight, we flew Toronto to Vancouver then Vancouver to Sydney. There are many options for layovers including a few days along the way. Thanks for watching.
Cool, I learned that when Brits say what sounds like Edinborough, they mean Edinburgh, Scotland. I need to get out more! The Danube riverboat tour sounds great. I took an Alaska Marine Highway ferry through the Inside Passage, and it was sunshine all the way. So relaxing and peaceful. Thanks for sharing your trips with us.
Enjoyed your travels through time. We have the same experiences and enjoyment as you guys...The Med out of Barcelona is magic. The New Zealand Sounds were enchanting. Loved Portugal and Greek Isles as well... Northern Europe on a TGV from Antwerp to Paris before 9-11 here in the states, the engineer asked us to help "drive the TGV' through the French Countryside in the cabin in front with him as he helped me tidy up my French-----Lifetime memories!! Can't beat seeing new places and learning new cultural differences as well as similarities.....
For info only but I have been watching another couples video 'Grounded Life Travel' which they travel via train. Good info if you want to check out . See you soon 😊
What an enjoyable travel journey you have had so far. I am retiring in 2 years and really look forward to visiting lots of these places with my husband and Mum.
I received 30k Amtrak bonus points for getting their credit card. I used the card then bought tickets for California to Chicago for 2 in a bedroom (82k) round trip for this October. I’ll be looking for you!
Hi Norm and Tina: Fantastic travel memories! Riverboats are very special. We like hanging out in Amsterdam beforehand. Repeated trips such as Greek Island hopping at the top for us along with Italy and Jamaica.(12 times). We are also interested in train trips through Europe. Ill Divo tonight! Picked up great seats for Guns and Roses and I have front row center for Andre Rieu. Keep living the dream and enjoy the weekend!
We are thinking a river cruise 🚢 from Amsterdam has moved up near the top of the list we would so like to do that , great concert 🎶 tickets enjoy your weekend Paul Cheers 🍷🚢✈️🚂🍺
@@ThisIsOurRetirement Amsterdam to Budapest we have done twice. Once through Uni-World(upscale)and in this past September through Viking. We also did Windmills and Tulips which was Netherlands and Belgium with Uni-World. Viking is much more cost effective now and the Scandinavian boats are beautiful. Viking have discovery expedition tours which look really great and we are considering. We love the Netherlands and have toured Amsterdam four times! So much to do and see there. Happy planning!

Thank you for making today's video. What a great subject! The photos are so good. I am now a single traveler, I did do the Alaska cruise with my husband, and this made video has made me rethink group plans. I am a Portugal lover. Spain was swell but what an impact Portugal made on me.
I like your variety of t-shirts and how you wear them well. I’m looking to update my collection which was once all Disney. As we travel and enjoy new experiences I’m going to follow your lead. Question: Do you think if you visited Sweet Home Alabama first, that you might have never ventured out to more exotic locations around the globe?- just kidding of course! We are looking to cruise one day soon… thank you!
The wonder of travel is they are all different experiences, we loved Alabama because we drove there and had our car 🚗 to get around . We had always wanted to travel in retirement so we made a list of where we wanted to go and started booking we have done great cruises, one week stays, months in Portugal 🇵🇹 and loved them all don’t think there was a trip we haven’t liked. So get a pen and paper and list what you both might want to do , we now really want to do train 🚂 trips as we haven’t done that Cheers 🇺🇸🚂🚢🍷🍺
Train trips in Canada 🇨🇦 are very boarding. My wife has done it. I do know in the prarires that seems where farmers park there dead farm implements along the tracks. A real history of Rust.
Wow Guys, great topic, very interesting ideas. I liked it much better that funeral planning 🙂 For ourselves we have decided to go to longdistance exotic travel before retirement, so we have been all around the world already, will finish 'bucket list" this year by going to Africa/ Kenia and after will go to rever cruise/sleepover train and other exciting stuff. as one of my friend said: it is unfair that we can start travel only after retirement, when we dont have enough stamina. Society has to reconsider giving retirement time to folks aged 25- 35 for travel and living life at fullest and work till 70 after that. Good Idea by the way: give yourself first, right?
Sounds like a great idea Angela , that would turn retirement upside down LOL 😂but it’s a shame when you are young and healthiest you don’t have the time or money 💰 to do travel .Have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🚂✈️🚢🍺
Nothing Ron, a lot of people think they are the same because of geographical location. They are both distinct cultures and Portugal is often overlooked in favour of the larger country Spain. Go experience both and decide for yourself. Thanks for watching.

Cheers!

We did the Ghan last year in Australia which was very enjoyable and I recently watched a video on the Canadian train trip you mention which also looked great. We’re going to Montreal on Monday which will be our first time in Canada so very excited!
Montreal is wonderful, have a great trip!
We are going to Santorini, Greece in June for my bday and to Bangkok, Thailand in July for my husband’s bday! Can’t wait!!!!!!
Sounds wonderful Pamela we wish you great birthday trips 🥳🥳Cheers 🍷🥳🌺🍺
We just got back from Madeira, Portugal. The Carnaval was on in Funchal and it was a great experience. We would highly recommend visiting during Carnaval or Flower festival.
We are so glad you had a good time David Cheers 🍷🇵🇹🍺🇨🇦
My wife and I are flying to Japan this March! Flying from the San Francisco Bay Area to Honolulu and from Honolulu to Japan on Hawaiian Airlines!! 👍👍👍
That is awesome! have a great trip Frank 🇯🇵 🍷 🇺🇸✈️🇨🇦🙂
Will be gone from my insurance job for 19 days!!! 👍👍👍👍
One of our very favorite train trips was from Anchorage, Alaska up to Denali. We stayed three days in Denali, there was so much to discover! The train ride is through stunning vistas and you see lots of wildlife along the way.
Sounds great! thanks for sharing Denise have a great week Cheers 🍷🚢🙂🚂
retirement goals! My partner and I are 5 years out! We are enjoying your videos and dreaming. Did Lagos this past Christmas! Think it's time for you to do Arizona, Utah and Cali
That is awesome! hope you enjoyed Lagos we would love to visit more places in the USA 🇺🇸 Deborah have a great week Cheers 🇺🇸🍷🙂🌺
The Indian resturant I believe closes in January. Sounds like us, we moved from Orillia area to a little town in South west as well called Forest.
Yes it does!
I’d also recommend the empire builder from Chicago to Seattle through Glacier National Park. Fantastic trip.
Thanks Laurie, we hadn’t heard about this train, we are going to check it out!
Thanks to both of you we just spent a month in Portugal and loved every moment. Rented a little car and drove all over the Algarve and from the south to the north. Your videos really helped us. Looking forward to going back next year maybe for 2 months.
Our pleasure! glad you enjoyed it Denis we hope to be back there next year too Cheers 🇨🇦🍷🇵🇹🍺🙂
Thanks for sharing your fav trips with us all, and may you many more yrs and adventures together. xo

Have fun it’s a great trip!
Sounds great!
I really want to do the Rocky Mountaineer. Expensive but amazing 👏
Sounds wonderful that’s on our list too Merenie 🍷🚂🌺
If you love train travel, highly recommend the shinkansen in Japan during Cherry Blossom season (end of March-April). Beautiful country, wonderful people.
Thanks for the suggestion Cindy Cheers 🍷🚂🌺🙂
You are so blessed to have these experiences! Do you ever use travel agents or travel guides? Perhaps you can make a video that tells us how you learn about where to visit and how you decide what to see while there. Thank you for all you share with us!
We have used travel agents for 🚢 cruises Kathy and some land tours ie China . Most of the trips we book direct with companies and just pick places we think we would like to visit Cheers 🍷🌺🚢✈️🚂🍺
My hubby and I did a trip to Edinburgh during the Tattoo , it was amazing and a once in a lifetime experience. We will never forget it !
Awesome Bonnie glad you got to experience Edinburgh!
We’re taking a Viking river cruise from Amsterdam to Basel in June!
Sounds amazing we hope you have a great time we love river cruises Cheers 🍷🚢🌺🙂
@@ThisIsOurRetirement Yes, I hope too- It should warm up in two weeks. You both stay warm and safe in Ontario cold weather! Cheers
Wonderful list of places and things to do. Someday I'd love to visit Portugal
Hello Frank we do enjoy Portugal, hope you manage to get there one day.
Thanks for sharing you were lucky not too many get to retire at 50 , we were 58 and 60 and have never looked back Cheers 🍷🌺🍺🚂✈️
@@ThisIsOurRetirement We didn't have any children, although not intentionally, so that helped. I'm a fellow UK expat. by the way, living in Southern California. If we'd stayed in the UK we'd probably all still be working!
"circumnavigated Andorra" ?!!!!! How ?
@@Maria-js9ou There are two established hiking routes that circumnavigate Andorra. First, there's the GRP, that my wife and I did, but there's also the more recently-established Coronallacs variant. We had a great time. Andorra is a fabulous country to visit in summer (and winter, if you enjoy skiing).
Woww :) I just subscdribed to your channel. You guys (you & wife) look to be having too much fun!!! Today's video has been AWESOME!!!
I enjoy listening to your travel stories. You give me many great ideas. I highly recommend attaching a land tour to an Alaska cruise. We enjoyed the land tour as much as we did the cruise. Denali is beautiful and the train ride to get there was a great experience.
Yes we agree with you we should do the land tour. Holland America offers some interesting packages.
Sounds great! thanks for sharing Barbie have a wonderful weekend Cheers 🍷✈️🇬🇧🇨🇦🙂
That’s wonderful Barbie, we were going to go to Thailand just as covid hit, it’s still on our bucket list. Glad you enjoyed it and got to visit with your Brother.
I Enjoy All Your Videos. You Are An Adorable Awesome Couple. Be Well Stay Safe And Keep Enjoying Life.
Thanks Stephen you are very kind.
Thank you for sharing your retirement life. It’s inspiring. ❤ you are both so beautiful inside and out. Stay blessed. 🥰
We really appreciate your kind comment it helps so much!
If you ever do an Alaskan cruise again. Get off at Skagway and take the narrow gauge railway. There’s a lot of history there and the train used to travel to Whitehorse. It doesn’t anymore, but it travels to Carcross from Skagway, AK.
Sounds great thanks for the suggestion Cheers 🍷🚂🚢🍺🌺
yep long way to Australia and NZ but well worth it and nice on the cruise too hope you enjoyed our country yep the weather on the sea can be rough but we dont get much snow the people here very welcoming nice to hear of all the other places you visited too

Thanks for sharing. We’ve done the Danube river cruise and loved it
That's awesome! we loved it too Norma , hope to do another river cruise 🚢 soon cheers 🍷🚢🌺🙂
I know the feeling.
Cheers from here!
Thanks Louise we loved seeing Dunedin it was a wonderful cruise 🚢 have an awesome weekend Cheers 🇳🇿 🍷🇨🇦🍺

Glad you enjoyed iceland, and yes, its very expensive.. but it is one of these once in a lifetime vacations....i would love to do a train journey
Thanks for the tip Kevin we will check it out on RUclips, did you go on a tour or just independently.
@@ThisIsOurRetirement we booked thru a company but did our own schedule….you can do it independently for sure

Maybe one day! thanks for watching have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🌺🍺🚂

Hi Barbara!! I see you follow Norm & Tina too- besides Skip that is. Aren’t they fantastic?! What are we doing here in Delaware? Time to travel.

Yeah, NZ had the friendliest people of any country we've visited. Most unfriendly: China.
Sounds great! 5 weeks there would be wonderful, we have seen parts of Ireland 🇮🇪 on a cruise which we really liked would like to go back and you can never go wrong in the Mediterranean Steve Cheers 🍷✈️🍺🚂
Great video! Thanks for sharing your travel stories. BTW like those tshirts. Great colours for both of you.
Our pleasure! glad you enjoyed it Allison Cheers 🍷🚂✈️🚢🍺
Thanks to you we are going to Portugal next winter. Can't wait.

Thank you ,yes I love to 🛳 my most memorable cruise was going through the Panama Canal on the Cunard princess.
We have done that cruise 🚢 through Panama Canal from Fort Lauderdale to Vancouver on Holland America it was awesome 🌺
South Island is bigger than North Island.
Bye
Sounds like you have done some great trips too Deelara , glad you enjoyed the train 🚂 trips that’s high on our list Bye 👋
Sounds great Scott , we can’t wait to do a train 🚂 trip busy looking for deals have a great weekend Cheers 🇺🇸🍷🇨🇦🚂🚢

You should go to Hawaii and Bermuda or the Bahamas.
Thanks for the suggestions Joan, Hawaii would be nice, we have been to both Bermuda and Bahamas.
We have some nice walking around videos of Portugal 🇵🇹 LOL 😂😂have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🌺

I pay very little for travel insurance.
@@ThisIsOurRetirement I pay very little for travel insurance. I am surprised. Even my sister who is 78.
Sounds great! thanks for the info Stacy Cheers 🇺🇸🍷🇨🇦🚢

I love Amtrak. I took from Chicago to Minnesota

hi norm and teen, i like you came to canada in the early 90s. we are around the same age, i am hoping to retire early next year at 65 and planning trips, probably scotland this year. thanks for the tip about paying stamps to get a bigger pension. i did work in the uk before moving to canada. hoping to do the train trip out west too.
Sounds wonderful Meg, we wish you a great retirement.
Wow that sounds very exciting George thanks for sharing wonder if it’s very expensive compared to flying we would love that Cheers 🇺🇸🍷🚂🇨🇦🙂
It's called the Auto Train. We have used it several times.

You too Cheers 🍷🌺🍺
YES!! Come to Mexico! Come to Merida on the Yucatan too!
We have done a trip to the Yucatan Peninsula a few years back actually maybe 20 years LOL 😂😂Malcolm Cheers 🍷✈️🍺
@@ThisIsOurRetirement Cancun? Mayan Riviera? Did you come to Merida? The beautiful capital city of The Yucatan. Ancient civilizations wonderful food and culture art galleries you name it. Im an Essex Boy who found myself here wow!
Just Playa del Carmen and the cruise port
Thank you for making today's video. What a great subject! The photos are so good. I am now a single traveler, I did do the Alaska cruise with my husband, and this made video has made me rethink group plans. I am a Portugal lover. Spain was swell but what an impact Portugal made on me.
Glad it was helpful and that you enjoyed it Marianne have a great weekend Cheers 🍷🚂🚢🌺
😂😂 The food on the Canadian, Toronto to Vancouver is worth the trip even if you don’t look out of the window 🚂 Great to “see” you again Ben!
@@ThisIsOurRetirement I think the nice views are between Calgary and Vancouver. That's the part I was thinking of.
Wow Guys, great topic, very interesting ideas. I liked it much better that funeral planning 🙂
For ourselves we have decided to go to longdistance exotic travel before retirement, so we have been all around the world already, will finish 'bucket list" this year by going to Africa/ Kenia and after will go to rever cruise/sleepover train and other exciting stuff. as one of my friend said: it is unfair that we can start travel only after retirement, when we dont have enough stamina.
Hi, love you guys. When Norm said that Portugal "isn't like Spain" that left me wondering what he meant. What's the matter with Spain, Norm?
Nothing Ron, a lot of people think they are the same because of geographical location. They are both distinct cultures and Portugal is often overlooked in favour of the larger country Spain. Go experience both and decide for yourself. Thanks for watching.
The midwest is flat. Yes would love to take the Cheppe Mexico canyon trip but worried about security situation.
