Actually, it was supposed to be just one rake. They did all the others because they were having trouble making the episode long enough for air. And it worked out amazingly.

"The Bart, the", the rakes, the cactuses, The Thompsons, the chainsaw, the electric eels, the light opera. It's staggering how much they fitted in to these episodes.
At the time this episode aired, people thought Simpsons had jumped the shark. Funny looking back, it's (rightfully) considered one of the funniest episodes.
I think this was when the show hits its stride and the older gen viewers just wanted more slice-of-life episodes. 7th grade me thought this was hilarious! No contest though: 1999 was when they definitely jumped the shark!

Cape Fear is one of those rare exceptions where the remake is superior to the original....and Deniros performance of Max Cady is not only one of his best and most underrated but one of the all time greatest performances ever! Fantastic film and I ADORE this Simpsons parody 😆

I’ve always loved the sideshow Bob stepping on rakes but but always chocked it up to silly cartoon. Until this year when I stepped on a push broom in my stores back room and it flew up and smacked me right in the nose. Couldn’t even be mad about it.
