"The first time I ever really listened to Kyle Kulinski’s show was in the back of a cab last summer. The driver had his phone hooked up through the stereo and was pumping out an episode through the car speakers - loudly, as if looking to convert a captive audience.
“Do you like Kyle Kulinski?”
The driver, Ahmed, was a recent immigrant and apparently a die-hard fan of Secular Talk, the political talk show that Kulinski broadcasts on RUclips. I told him, yes, in fact. I do like Kulinski, had come across his show several years ago, and, all things considered, he seemed pretty good.
“He understands what we’re up against,” Ahmed said. “Like Bernie.”
But I was surprised to hear Kulinski’s name mentioned in the same breath as Bernie Sanders, particularly with such adoration. Because what I did remember about Kulinski’s show struck me as mostly capital-P “progressive” takes on the news - the left wing of the Netroots crowd more than the democratic socialism Sanders has popularized.
It’s an impression that wasn’t entirely incorrect.
“I have no time for philosophical, airy bullshit,” Kulinski tells me from his home in Westchester, New York. “I don’t want to hear about Lenin. I don’t want to hear about Marx. I just want a super plainspoken, straightforward agenda with a straightforward way of selling it.”
With over 800,000 subscribers and nearly 670 million total views on RUclips, selling a progressive agenda is clearly something Kulinski knows how to do - even Democracy Now, the long-standing flagship of progressive media, cannot match his reach on the platform. Chapo Trap House can certainly boast a wildly devoted fan base (and a not insignificant degree of media influence), but their audience is roughly half the size of Kulinski’s.
While Secular Talk might be more likely to be looped in with the progressive networks around Air America and Pacifica alums like Sam Seder than the more resolutely socialist world, Kulinski’s fiery rhetoric, razor-sharp class instincts, and knack for withering takedowns sets him apart from his peers. Judging by his rhetoric alone, he’s closer to a Eugene Debs than a Chris Hayes.
But unlike Hayes, Amy Goodman, or his friend Cenk Uygur of The Young Turks - who began airing Secular Talk on his web network seven years ago - the thirty-two-year-old Kulinski is virtually invisible in the mainstream media. Despite his enormous fan base, his show has never once been mentioned in the obligatory trend pieces on “the Millennial Left” pumped out by the prestige media. Nor has Kulinski’s name ever popped up at all in the New York Times, Vox, the New Yorker, New York Magazine, or the Washington Post, despite his leading role in cofounding Justice Democrats, the organization widely credited with sweeping Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez and the rest of “the Squad” to power.
Just last week, his Wikipedia page was deleted. The reason? “There is very simply no [reliable source] coverage of this person,” according to one moderator. In new media, he’s king - the Sean Hannity of the Berniecrat left. In old media, he’s nobody.
I suspect there are a few reasons for that. There is nothing “cool” about Kulinski’s show. (As a friend put it, “‘Welcome to Secular Talk’ sounds like something you’d hear on Egyptian radio.”) His no-nonsense social-democratic politics won’t get him much cred with the Full Communism crowd. He records his show not in Brooklyn or Los Angeles, but in a studio he built himself in his modest Westchester home. His hair is too groomed and his taste in clothes too preppy to qualify as “Dirtbag Left.” Nor has he ever attended an n+1 release party. “Not only have I not attended one,” he says, “I have no idea what that means.”
And yet he’s astonishingly plugged-in for a young man in the suburbs. Wondering how Sanders ended up on the Joe Rogan Experience? Kulinski, a frequent guest on Rogan’s wildly popular show, introduced them. “You make the most sense to me,” Rogan told Kulinski on a recent episode. “You’re a normal person.”
Much like Sanders himself, Kulinski’s show has a massive audience that just doesn’t compute with our media’s understanding of “what the kids want” or even “what the left-wing kids want.”
It’s probably for the best - the very woke and very WASP-ish decorum haunting much of the media world is nowhere to be found in Secular Talk. “Corporate Democrats over-focus on identity as a trick to divert you from the issues that unite us all - class issues,” he said on a recent episode.

As a Marine Veteran, i have been studying Isreal since I served in Jordan, Lebanon on Yemen, and many of the men I worked with were Palestinian. I always knew there were issues, Im ethnically Jewish on my father's side, my uncle is Palestinian as well, but after I started my Reservist 4 years and Met a Palestinian girl in College in 2009, things really changed, I stopped being a conservative Republican, she was seriously the most beautiful girl I've ever dated by far, way way way out of my league. Beautiful family, just like my uncle and his side of the family.
But this what is going on in Gaza, i know war, and i know War crimes. War is horrific enough, this is pure genocide. The IØF are the terrorists, and completely, wholly undisciplined. Its absolutely disgusting what these videos are showing. Even the few IØF Soldiers i worked with in 2007 & 2008 for brief periods always rubbed me the wrong way. Very entitled and would never even talk or look or sit with our Palestinian teammates. The Palestinians however were kind and warm and one even gave me a keffiyeh his wife made. I dont know if they are still alive. They were working to bring democracy to Palestine. They are probably not alive anymore. Which is sad. Not even my uncle can contact his family in Palestine, and hasn't been able to for months.

Well wouldn't be Rogan if he pushed back against his guests. What have made his podcast good is that pretty much any guest, regardless of opinion, gets to explain their positions without any kind of excessive push back. It's annoying when it comes to other shows because then it's one side get to say whatever they want but the others barely can open their mouth before the host interjects, Rogan on the other hand treat all his guests the same which might be annoying to some but at least he's rather consistent.

Kyle, I want to point something out that I don't see you or Rogan commenting on here, and it's actually a pretty huge deal. Hughes, arguing about how great Israel is about letting aid through, says that they've let in "over a quarter-ton of food into Gaza since the beginning of the war."
I'm a farmer who hauls food waste from restaurants to feed my animals, and I used to drive a truck hauling food waste for a compost facility. I know something about how much food weighs.
One ton is 2,000 lbs., so a quarter ton is just 500 lbs. 500 lbs. of food waste will fill a couple 64-gallon trash cans a little more than halfway. One of my clients, a cafeteria for a corporate headquarters office downtown, throws away that much in leftovers from their serving line in about three or four days. ONE COMPANY. Two garbage cans.
This dude is flexing over the fact that they've let two garbage cans worth of food into Gaza to feed millions of people, SINCE THE START OF THE WAR SIX MONTHS AGO.
Picture a five-pound bag of rice or flour. You give out 100 of those. Probably one pallet or less. That's a quarter-ton of food. And that's what he's bragging that Israel has fed to millions of people over six months. That wouldn't feed 50 people for ONE month.
I'm not exaggerating for effect here. 500 pounds divided by 50 people is ten pounds of food per person. If you spread that out over a month--say a short month like February--is 2.5 pounds per person per week. That's slightly over a third of a pound per day. Look at a one-pound loaf of bread. You get one-third of that per day as the only food you get to eat. That's it for a whole month. And then, after that month, there's nothing at all. THAT is what Coleman Hughes wants us to think is an impressive amount of food getting into a land of millions of starving people.

The civilian to combant death ratio was far worse in the Iraq war for example. The IDF certainly is invovled in war crimes ,no doubt. But its not their agenda like its the Hamases, that the difference and Coleman describes that perfectly well.

As an Israeli, this is simply the straight forward truth. There is a small percentage of Israelis who completely object to this carnage, some partly objects. MOST agree that Israel is in the right and should continue, and MANY celebrate the death of civilians. CELEBRATE. I stopped using Facebook at the beginning of the Genocide, when invites where passed for "A Beer on the beach" reflecting on Gaza. I still see these random, but common, invites, on other Israelis Facebooks, most of which are my friends and hate it,but with thousands and sometimes tens of thousands of likes. Many Israelis, too many to dismiss as extremists, MOCK the suffering, the hunger, the loss of life. Some deny the numbers. Others don't even bother - I will say this again - too most Israelis, Israel is completely within its right. I wish I could tell a different story, I even wish I could say most people are sad or regretful. SOME are, but way too many support and celebrate Israel's actions. And ironically, those same people still complain about what they call "Anti-Semetic" coverage of these horrors. They truly believe Israel is hated because of it's Jewish population, and refuse to accept that Israel is heavily criticized for what most normal people see as CRUEL WAR CRIMES. I've never felt so ashamed in my life. I live among people who dismiss the value of life, of children dying, starving. And I have nowhere to run. And this is my truth, this is my testimony. And my heart is crushed, and life feels like it's over.

I saw Coleman Hughes the first time he was on Joe's podcast, I had to turn if off after about 30 minutes as I could smell his grift a mile away. Kyle does a great job here breaking down Coleman's falsehoods, but his description of Coleman at the start of the video is also the exact reason why Joe likes having Coleman on his podcast in the first place.

This is only a clip. I didn’t see the full episode but I’m sure Rogan pushes back. If you noticed here, he’s very politely challenging the dude by asking basic clarifying questions. It’s a technique Joe uses to make people realize they don’t know what they’re saying. It’s more effective than talking to a wall. If he were to try to delegitimize the dude on the spot, the guy will just have a stronger reaction to his beliefs as he’ll feel he’s being challenged and told that his beliefs are wrong. What Joe is doing shows his amazing ability to deal with people.

Just to be accurate. The euro-med monitor number is also not correct. They only count those that actually get delivered into the hospital system that is barely functioning at all and don´t coutn secondary deaths like starvations, people that die from cancer, illness, other non combat relatied injuries and so on. The actual death toll is supposedly way higher.
