Horrible, tiny pavements packed with people while a few cars get all that space and still drive too close to cycles and each other. I can see why they changed everything so soon after this.
Nederland was kwa verkeer onveilig, maar de vrijheid die er toen was kun je een dik boek over schrijven. Nederland is echt helemaal naar de pokken gegaan door regeltjes, regeltjes en nog eens regeltjes.
Yep. Toen had je nog de vrijheid om lekker stinkende benzine en diesel walmen in te ademen... Heerlijk!

This is why casualty numbers were going up rapidly and bicycle use was dropping rapidly in the 60's.
Cycling during those times was far less safe.

The car is a 1965 Chevrolet Bel Air or Biscayne. That was a large car even in the U.S.
What you can see is that Amsterdam has always been a cycling city, already before the city council decided to put bicycle infrastructure in place. The people came first the infrastructure followed!

No, definitely not Denmark. It's Amsterdam. Look at the license plates of the cars, the billboard showing 'VVD' right at the start of the clip. And there's lots of Amsterdam in the shots as well.. Take a good look. :-)
