Proper London, the London I now miss......
Grim? There is nothing more beautiful than London in the rain.
im almost brought to tears looking at the rain and reflexions of Big Ben on Westminster bridge. I wanna go back, where did the time go?
In all these videos even the scruffiest looks better dressed than now.
Looks way less depressing than todays UK
Thus is not grim. This is glorious.
ivana havitoff I totally agree.
Yep , I too love London in the rain - and I also can't explain why .
Take off your nostalgia goggles
My favorite, were the London thunderstorms
I could watch them for hours
Its one of the things I miss about London
Summer storms
Disillusioned!
I miss the route master bus. You can hop on and hop off. The good old days.
And I'd go back in a blink of an eye.
Still a lot nicer than the London of 2020.
Four years later it's worse
London is the best... fullstop
Brollies doing a roaring trade, London looking absolutely FAB in the rain, hopping on the Routemasters to stay dry, just how we remember and love the dear old city!
Dont ever refer to this as grim London in the rain -Its beautiful London in the rain!-Ah take me back there.
the only thing grim about London is what it has been allowed to become ... a cesspit of crime
It looks a lot nicer than London 2020 during lockdown.
🤣🤣
Tell me about it lol
You could only tell the difference from the cars! Hasn't really changed at all
@@36OZinnit, people saying the past is better is just people reminiscing of their past!
@@blobba5442 OMG THIS SO TRUE! BLINDED BY THE FUCKING PAST
I remember sprinting halfway down the high st while dodging two lanes of traffic to jump on the route master, chest pumping as you flop down in the chair.
Great picture quality and certainly not grim compared to London now
I loved London in the rain
Even then 50 odd years ago we were on an inevitable downward slant towards what’s occurring today. If only we realised that far back.
Being a Londoner the only time the streets are clean is in the rain
Love rainy days in London!
When a mind looks to a time separated from now, it fantasies.
The reality is as pleasant then as it is now.
I miss the old Routemasters
Grim ? It's absolutely beautiful. You want grim go and film the same places today, in my mind this is how I will always remember beautiful old London. Not what it's become
if you go to the same places now you will find homeless and down and outs sleeping on the streets top and tail and the pavements piled high with rubbish ... and dodgy looking gangs of so called 'rose sellers' hanging round on street corners trying to dip your pockets ...
This is anything but grim. London had an identity back then.
Magnificent to see what London was like before in turned into hell
Marc Argento How exactly has London turned into hell? (if it has, it's a very rich hell, because it's a fair bet that you can't afford to live in it)
Yep an absolute sesspit now thanks to politicians.
@@BellogsTheChicken A cesspit? (note the spelling, Ian) Hardly. The city has never looked better ort more affluent. A great place to live! Which is why you could never afford to buy a house there.
To be fair, when I visit London it's not much different
@ crass ke
You're talking shit. It's a shit hole full of foreign arseholes causing nothing but problems thanks to corrupt politicians!
Wonder how many people in this video are stil alive today
I prefer the cold rainy winter days. There is too much pressure to have fun in summertime.
Grime Kitty Well said!
Good point .
Thats because summer and sunny weather in UK is so rare
Still waiting to spot the titular grimness...
Nice footage 👍🏿
It was cohesive, at one with itself, proud of itself and filled with 60's optimism . .
2024 London under the vile Khan however is "Grim" indeed. .
Looks like heaven I hate sun and I hate today lol
I wish London could return to the old 12 inch snow and fogginess! Now it's been a solid 3-4 years since it snowed fully.
Never been to London but just love looking at old video like these
Dont expect it to look like that nowadays, might as well just keep your memories of the video.
if you do ever travel to London try to avoid the present ...
This kind of old enhanced footage is really nice to see.
Beautiful
Grim London in the rain? Some things never change!
So much nicer back then. Shame what it has become.
i GREW UP IN CRAPPYTOWN, CANADA SO THIS IS DELIGHTFUL TO WATCH.
Grim but love London
Best city in the world.
not any more ...
It was until the 90s, London has been in terminal decline since the 00s
@@beardedbaldie2698 Sadiq Khan has done his best to turn it into downtown Karachi
@@timmo491 Ironically, cities in Pakistan have lower crime rates than London. Aside from petty crime, they don’t have the stabbing epidemic we have
@@beardedbaldie2698 is that because of the public floggings and death penalty?
I'm gonna buy the new Album of Black Sabbath.
Cheers Mate !
I thought nostalgia had to have sunshine
The traffic is a disgrace I’m writing to the council about this.
Loool love you for this! 😂😂
They need to bring in a congestion charge or something like that kind of thing ... err ...
@@pagethreemodel glad I made you laugh 😁
@@uglycustard1 it really did. One of the best examples of British humour.
@@pagethreemodel may I say you are also very pretty.😊
Incredible footage 👏
Great footage
Pre Covid days just wonderful and you could feel safe and sound sadly 55- 60 years later people didn’t know what was going to hit the world. It was hit with Covid which has Changed the world For years to come
I would take London then rather than London now
Walking in the rain can be nice if the rain is light and there is no wind.
less people
FEWER people, not less!
It rains in other countries too. I know, ive been there on holiday.
if it did not rain we would not have water ... if we did not have water we could not make tonic... if we did not have tonic we would not have anything to put in our gin
Look at all the well-dressed decent people being decent. How awful.
Was that final bit with the Number 73 bus filmed in Park Lane? It looks a bit like it!
Excellent. Opening shot, failry certain that's a Vauxhall Viscount behind the blue Mini. My grandfather had one - it was quite prestigious in the late 1960s.
Sadiq Khan 2021 this is global warming lol.
Grim in the rain. Try in in the sunshine! Not any better!
It nearly drives me insane to read all these comments about London when it was proper London. I've been here for most of forty years, since coming across from Northern Ireland to London Uni in 1982. I have lived elsewhere for bits; on the whole I enjoy London as much now as I did then. And yes - rainy London is a powerful impression. My first day in London as an undergrad it was drizzling constantly and heavy. So that is now I met London in my first long stint of living here.
Fine if you can afford it.
@@maccagrabme I can't.
Omg well said @jamesupton4996 - me too! I'm sort of the reverse of you, as in I'm an Englishman (hey someone has to be) that grew up in Surrey 1970s/80s so remembers London looking like this (mostly) but I have lived in Northern Ireland now for 22 years. London is London its always evolving. All the boring comments are basically, sadly, very thinly veiled jingoism. Things change, life goes on, Belfast is unrecognisable almost from only 22 years ago but thats life. 🙂 I read this the other day which sums it up nicely:-
".....No one was ever a native of Britain. People arrived here. The Romans, the Celts, the Normans, the Saxons. Britain was always a place made of other places. And even what we think of as "modern" immigration goes quite a long way back. Well over three hundred years ago, you had Indians who came here after being recruited on ships run by the East India Company. Then came Germans and Russian Jews and Africans.....".
Lets celebrate it, instead of letting the frightened members of the Right make it fearful.
@@OlafProt And here we have a political broadcast on behalf of Hope Not Hate's Liebour Party.
Grim is waking up, looking out your window and realising that you’re not in London. Any one that thinks London is grim either lives in the wrong side of town or is filled with envy because they can’t live here!
The reason why others condem London because they are jealous and live in racist segregated other UK cities and towns which are no where on London scale .
Lived in London my whole life and can’t wait to leave.
Your getting mixed up with The Great White Flight which occured around these times. Don't be fooled that many Britains envy those living in that cesspit.
Very last shot must have been taken in 1973 - poster for "Live and Let Die" on the back of the routemaster bus.
Show me any place that isn’t grim when it’s great and raining? I’ve lived in London now for going on 30 years and can’t imagine living anywhere else. It’s not perfect and may not be as fun as it used to be, but where else is?
Yep, this is how I remember London.
London is still grim
No disgusting congestion charge, no overcrowding. No smartphones. No debit cards. I don't care for a bit of rain.
If you have real money and can afford to live in exclusive, luxurious, gorgeous areas like St. John’s Wood, Belgravia or Chelsea, you will truly enjoy London today. In fact, you’d say it’s the best city in the entire world. Otherwise, it’s charmless, overcrowded, unfriendly, often dangerous and mind-numbingly expensive.

London still has the rain just not so much white folks lol
Gee, London has really gone down the toilet compared to what it once was
😂😂
Not really no .
London has always had good stuff and bad stuff
@@masterknife8423 Maybe it's because I am not from England. When I think of England I think of London and this is the image in my mind. It might seem grim to a local but it is somewhere I would want to visit and see because it is different and uniquely English looking. The modern London looks kind of generic like everywhere else now.
Now you see why Hungary and Russia are both so protective of their cultures and have strict laws on immigration.
Grim. Cosy.
London is lookin like new now. No more black buildings covered in sooty soot. All been cleaned up over the years.🇬🇧
Masses of sterile glass building fronts not ageing well. Correction .....the masses of 'sooty soot' are literally everywhere in Londonstan!
In London it just doesn’t rain, it pours.
Grim?
Regardless of fashion during those times, I never saw a sack of spuds with two legs and two arms with a fat gut and tattoos in this video. Something is different😊
0:28 nice to see White, presumably Christian women wearing headscarves! They're not just a Muslim item of clothing. Nearly all women used to wear them regardless of religion
Even hindus and Buddhist wear head scarves, for religious, beauty or to keep away from aun
That was just the fashion back then. For the younger women esp. they wore them to protect their hairstyles and because it was a cool and sophisticated accessory. I doubt they did it to avert the male gaze.
Headscarves are Beautiful❤❤❤@@pagethreemodel
We didn't wear head scarves because of religion!!!! We wore them because it was fashionable at the time! Would never ever wear one now!!!!! 😂
notice how not a single lady wears pants. as of today, there are so many muslims prowling the streets. it'd be dangerous for a woman to walk around in public donning a miniskirt.
It's called "choice".
I think your talking bollocks .
I saw a girl in a miniskirt the other day. There goes your bullshit comment!
