there are 7 of them giving a score from 0 to 10, you take out the 2 highest score and the 2 lowest scores
add the reminding 3 together and multiply that with the difficulty of the dive for the final score.

Consistency is the KEY, it is also the hardest to achieve. Everybody can do some perfect dive but not everyone can do consistently especially under immense pressure. That's what differentiate a champion from the rest. Y. Cao - a well deserved winner for his consistency throughout and handling the pressure calmly.

100 is not the highest score for a dive, 30 x degree of difficulty (which highest been 4.8) = 144
However, most divers can't do degree of difficulty 4.0 or higher consistently, Consistency is the key of success for winning in competition.
That's the reason you most likely only see dives that ranged between 3.2 to 4.1.

he's lucky that tamai screwed up so badly in his 4th dive doing the reverse 3 1/2 tugged. had he scored 80 points for that dive, which he could easily do in his sleep, he would have won the gold medal.

Yes china won all golds but technically their diving has not improved for the few past olympics. You will see some changes in the gold winners in the coming olympics unless china do something about it.
