I was actually lucky enough to board this beautiful ship, and i must say it was the most amazing experience of my life watching aircraft land and take off from about 30 feet away. When the aircraft take off it shakes your entire body and ever since then i have had one goal and that is to join the navy and be on the deck crew...America is the greatest country in the world.
I was a flight deck troubleshooter and was in the NAvy for 8 years. I loved working on the flight deck. Served on the USS Saratoga adn the USS Eisenhower. Give us your hearts and minds or we'll blow up your damn huts!!!
I am a Plankowner of the USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76). I was onboard while the ship was still in pieces and just a one of the many that pre-commissioned and commissioned the ship. One of the best ships and great crew that I served with in my 13 yrs in the Navy.
1. Diesel electric boats are nearly silent at low speed. So if you can predict the movement of the CBG you can position yourself in front and let the carrier come to you and just move in slowly (hence silently) for the kill shot. 2. This was done during an exercise whose purpose was to strengthen the US fleet's anti-submarine warfare capabilities. I think that means the exercise was a success because we learned some lessons. So this is not a bad thing.
hope the crew of the Reagan had a good visit in victoria.i hope one day you fellas decide to re-open for civilian tours,i went on one when the aberham lincon was in town and it was so huge it was silly.you guys have my support and respect.
The Queen elizabeth class is a very different ship, so you can't really directly compare the costs. US carriers are ordered in larger quantities which reduces per-ship cost. US carriers are nuclear which means they can use the steam from the reactor to power the catapults/traps. However nuclear ships are expensive to maintain over time. UK carriers use cheaper gas turbines. But these don't produce steam so the carriers need either STOVL aircraft or expensive, unproven magnetic catapults.
@ltuomela You can come fairly close in San Diego where the prior generation of carrier, obviously a bit smaller, the USS Midway, is an open and very well done museum, complete with a wide array of aircraft.
he is referring to the LCACS. Huge hovercraft that deliver troops & tanks to the beach. they can travel on land & sea. & are considered ships by the Navy.
@konttka not so, it is guarded by countermeasures, and would detect any enemy coming, with the ability to dispatch missiles and fighters, also carriers can take heavy damage and remain afloat.
Imagine the kind training of a group of pirates destined to attack USS Ronald Raegan escorted by the 4 Iowa class battleship which former president Raegan ordered to be rebuilt and modernized. The group is suported also by 4 modern destroyers, 4 frigates, 5 mine hunters, 10 torpedo gunboats, 4 attack subs and 4 stealth ships. Just imagine the kind of training the pirates will undergo to attack this group. By the way this group is constantly monitored in the air by AWACS aircraft.
Navy League of the United States - Santa Barbara Council, with more than 1,000 civilian members, is committed to SUPPORT & SERVE the men and women who wear our nation's cloth and serve aboard USS Ronald Reagan. We are accept member's requests to honor these great Americans while they are at sea, and when they come "home" to Santa Barbara CA...as we have been doing since we adopted her in 2002. Salutes to our nation's greatest ship!
The biggest threat to a carrier battle group however, is a nuclear attack submarine. Something along the lines of a Russian Akula class. Those are pretty much the only things capable of stalking down a CBG and taking out the heart - the carrier. Or at least crippling it. But even then the challenge is being in the right place at the right time.
My cousin just graduated from the nuclear power training and will be assigned to the Reagan in September. I will ask him if I can find him. He probably will not know just yet, but maybe he can find out.
at one point we were concerned the uranium reactors did not have the life span of twenty years due to their use, it was suggested at the time the battleship was introduced both reactors could be spent in as little as ten years depending on their use since we believed this to be the first attempt of its kind introducing two at once, congratulations to your cousin its one of the most important areas of the military i wish him luck and a safe return from his journey its important and necessary
modern Carrier battle groups are spread out over hundreds of miles. all ships linked electronically to an aegis cruiser or Arleigh Burke destroyer. the aegis ship coordinates the fire control of the various ships of the CBG.
30 knots on two reactors. Now imagine, back before engineers understood just how powerful reactors were, just how fast the USS Enterprise is with SIX REACTORS!
But in others I was welcomed into there homes they shared there food with us and they wept when we left it is a feeling of honor that can not be described and you would never understand.
On exercise, diesel electric subs have been able to sneak up to carriers for a kill. Floating mines are always a danger. takes a really big explosion to actually sink a big ship like this.
Problem! The drills don't start until the Umpire says. All tracking is disabled until the Red Force is in position. If the attack starts when the Sub is in weapons system range, the first to fire is the winner. (Inside escort screen) It would take eight conventional torpedoes placed in the correct pattern to destroy a Super Carrier that is not at the proper condition of readiness. No telling how many if the ship is properly fought. Veteran of three carriers and two ASW destroyers.
after 50 years of service. how many machines can you think of that can last 50 years? especially when you consider the stresses that a ship like a carrier is subjected to.
lol, it was in phuket last year. MY dad drove to close with our boat so the alarm went off. 2 army ships came towards us and warned us. Lol, so funny when we had the Ronald Reagan attention on us.
I read a report somewhere once ... Jane's i think ... said sth along the lines of low tech can nullify(not destroy) high tech weapon systems like the carrier and its aircraft ... sea mines and subs(not even advanced subs) ...
peace through strength, a nice slogan, and would be true if used to bring justice to the tormented, but used as a means to gain resources, as is the real reason for war, then it turns against all in the end and all lose eventually. Will we ever learn?
I want to see pirates attack USS Ronald Raegan Supported by 4 Iowa Class battleships, USS New york, USS Saratoga and 3 attack subs. That's One hell of a pirate mission. Good Luck.
It's not that we don't believe you. It's that these ships go nowhere without sub support. So, that Swedish sub would have to contend with several US subs before it could attack.
Wow look at these hella old comments. That's wild. YT was a completely different beast back then. I was on this carrier but left in mid-2006. Mostly fun times.
Also considering the USA has the most sophisticated satellite surveillance system in the world, and they have trouble finding things, i think its safe to assume they're not much of a threat.
i find it funny that the whole thing is commanded by a captain. i know that captain is the traditional rank to command a ship but i thought someone higher up would.
Alright, first off, a cruise missile or 4 would not cripple something as structurally sound as a super-carrier. Historically, even in world war 2 it took about 5-7 torpedoes (which do more damage as they strike below the waterline) to sink the "light carriers" of the war. Also, a supersonic cruise missile is almost as easy to detect as a low flying supersonic aircraft. Plus, the carrier group's outer defense have "CIWS" defenses, designed specifically to counter missile threats.
Simply put, warfare is an perpetually evolving art form and that is exactly why we conduct exercises. To determine our weaknesses and fix them. With that being said an attack submarine is designed to do exactly what the Gotland did. penetrate a fleet and sink ships. She did her job. You really should educate yourself before spouting off at the mouth.
might be cheaper for them to buy a newbuild Nimitz then to design & build an entirely new design. larger carriers are cheaper to operate then smaller ships.
The new Royal Navy Destroyer is more advanced than this but obviously its not in the same league. Nowhere near as pricey, much smaller and different purposes.
@dopenhagen2009 Actually, Reagan was quite smart, but like Carter, once in office he thought spending could help people instead of merely causing more damage. I'm curious, what "world leader" do you admire, if any? My personal favorite so far, Martin van Buren.
@bmwnasher kudos to you my friend, you think with an open mind,i dont know alot of the UK,but i rarely hear anything posative from there toward the US.ya,the yanks arent perfect, but if there wasnt a country like the US,i wonder how many wars would be going on right now.peace from canada
why dont you use nuclear power to get ships like this running, and then once it gets going use hydroelectric tubines on the front of the ship to power it? would be cheaper but im sure theres a reason why they dont do it can anyone expand on that for me?
He got very upset that I asked the question. He sent me a private message on RUclips. I told him that when I went to his profile and saw links to Michael Moore...I pretty much didn't bother talking.
The HMS Gotland (Swedish Submarine) sunk this ship in an exercise. It circulated the ship multiple times and it couldnt even spot the sub. A tiny country with a militairy budget that is not even remotely close the US, is more advanced. Good spending 'Merica. .
Well the cost is kinda right if you think about it $4.5 billion to carry 70 aircraft thats average cost is $50 million that equals $3.5 billion just for the air wing
@chrycohauler Well said dude. People around the globe and sadly in the US aswell are quick to piss on America for some of the questionable things that their governments have done over the years but America and its military have been a overwhelming force for good and without them the world would be a much darker place to live.

I saw this baby docked in San Diego when I was visiting one year, HUGE.
"Peace Through Strength" is right that is Reagan's motto
I was on the ship when they filmed this in 2007. Good times!!!
I did the maiden voyage around South America in 2004. Good times. Hs6 screaming indians!
I love the CC at 6:10: "This super carrier will send a message. The same message delivered by the President whose name is Karen. True story."
I LOOOOOOVE the ocean! Technology is amazing! The navy is great! I thank God for all the good things he has done!

I'm glad we sent this ship to Japan to help woth the relief effort. I hope it can help get the job done. Im a proud American and i love Japan!

I might work on that in the near future
did you?
If someone can tell me what is that great music which start at 0:53 ? Thank you !

Bruh I’m literally laying in my rack on the USS Ronald Regan and I’m crying cuz I hate it here 😂😂😂
Any ideas who is soundtrack maker for this? Really cool soundtrack!
AWESOME!!!!
@konttka not so, it is guarded by countermeasures, and would detect any enemy coming, with the ability to dispatch missiles and fighters, also carriers can take heavy damage and remain afloat.
God bless America for all the bloodshed the world has met... Thank you, we feel real safe having this magnificent piece of hardware!!

that is so cool i love the aircraft carrier in the planet 1 more super carrier to go that will sail to the out side of earth
Great video!
Ulf
What's the name of the soundtrack?

Veteran of three carriers and two ASW destroyers.
Yeah. A symbol of freedom on the sea, built for and by the Nation that preserves it, named after the man that won it.
I sure do love being American!
Pray you don't get sick then!
after 50 years of service. how many machines can you think of that can last 50 years? especially when you consider the stresses that a ship like a carrier is subjected to.
this ship is awesome but checkout the USS New York it's AWESOME
Ya USS Reagan a great ship named after a great man may this ship serve her country well like her namesake did.
lol, it was in phuket last year. MY dad drove to close with our boat so the alarm went off. 2 army ships came towards us and warned us. Lol, so funny when we had the Ronald Reagan attention on us.

the uss Ronald Reagen is one of the most largest aircraft cariers i`ve ever seen

*Not really, though.

THIS USS Ronald Reagan one day will help our country
peace through superior fire power
@CurtHowland thats the Marines
i find it funny that the whole thing is commanded by a captain. i know that captain is the traditional rank to command a ship but i thought someone higher up would.
US NAVY stand for freedom of the seas and always. GO NAVY
your right.
yea its amazing it can go on land too!
If it wasn't for its massive gravity, Jupiter would float in the ocean. It's a bit more than 100,000 tons. It's about density.
it's creepy how excited tha narrator is

Well the old saying is " man with the biggest guns makes the rules."Also a fact people do respect Power. This Carrier sure does show that.
It's not arrogance if you've earned it.
Title says building the US ronald reagan. Cant you guys assign correct titles?
becareful when you guys get close to the coast of SAMALI......should watch for danm pirites.....
Ronald Reagan - best US president in XX century
might be cheaper for them to buy a newbuild Nimitz then to design & build an entirely new design. larger carriers are cheaper to operate then smaller ships.
US POWER Land, Sea, Air and the Universe. GO USA!!!
@hnnjo5 well to be 100% right that not peace, that's "do what i tell you or i'll kick your ass"...not that much fair..
@Hobbit823 Or as they said in StarTrek,
"Peace, through Superior Firepower!"
@49bobbyk Thats true but it must be a bit of a worry to the US navy that the Chinese have or are close to developing a carrier killing missile.
You're welcome. Happy to help out. We're always here when the rest of the world needs their asses bailed out.
@JackReace360 ...a department of the navy.
It goes much faster than 35 M.P.H, that’s all I will say.
I'd say for the last 70 years, not in the history of the world.
97,000 tons and that thing floats?! How is that even possible?? lol
The new Royal Navy Destroyer is more advanced than this but obviously its not in the same league. Nowhere near as pricey, much smaller and different purposes.
@hlimkb Actually it's only 70.8%, and that's talking about how much of the surface is covered in water.

Nah, that was the Harry S. Truman. I precommed both of them, and I'd take the 75 over the 76 in a heartbeat.
Are you seriously trying to tell me that the United States didn't participate in WWI?
You should open a history book.
these carriers police the world so we can sleep safe at night..god bless all these guys..from uk
Nothing about BUILDING....

First, our economy is bouncing back.
Second, New Zealand is supposed to be our ally. What's your problem with us?
The captain says I think you get your moneys worth out of an aircraft carrier. Yes ok it only cost 4.5 billion.
That makes sense.
@BertrumPantyshield semper fi
Economic wise yes but militarily it had its ups and downs.
@MetalApocalypse999 aye aye the navy and air force ^^
The HMS Gotland (Swedish Submarine) sunk this ship in an exercise. It circulated the ship multiple times and it couldnt even spot the sub.
A tiny country with a militairy budget that is not even remotely close the US, is more advanced.
Good spending 'Merica.

yes, but they are having trouble finding the funding for their new queen elizabeth class carriers.
I...............I've got nothing. I have absolutely nothing.
Well the cost is kinda right if you think about it $4.5 billion to carry 70 aircraft thats average cost is $50 million that equals $3.5 billion just for the air wing
not true only since 9/11, but if you want to call that ages fine
its so big
