I like 10 day hordes more because it is easier to keep track of tbh

Yes it will be very interesting to see the learning curve! There's a ton of changes just from early A20 DF let alone from A18! Might wanna reconsider it being permadeath after the first horde and maybe give yourself like 3 lives after 1st horde? Could be a short lived series otherwise.

As always Capp00, great video! Glad to see Darkness Falls make its return for you, excited to see what how well things go for you. When trying to repair with the repair hammer, use the right mouse button to repair.
Good to see you back in DF! Great job finding that cooking pot so fast! I've been in DF a bit in A21, here's what I know so far. Put a point into tool crafting, forge can come at lvl 5 I believe. You can make a bicycle as soon as you get the points and have a workbench, don't need to wait for trader to offer you one. Take the Hurry Harry's job, HH is always in a town unless Navezgane map, and I think you'll like the rooftop there, I do. Yep, more zombies spit and explode. Starting tomorrow you can look forward to wandering hordes. Harvest them, they drop LOTS of loot bags. There is no night or morning noise, look for sunshine/shadows. You CAN kill a Wolf with your lvl 1 bow provided it's a sneak head shot. Yep the zombies eating your kills will decrease the amount of meat you harvest from that animal. You can craft empty jars in DF with your forge and some sand. You don't get jars back after using them but it's a good way to keep up murky water stores. Collect spuds, carrots, and apples, easy baked early game foods that don't dehydrate you. Yucca, too, can be roasted on your fire for food. I also had a moment when I realized I couldn't place any blocks in the trader compound. Don't forget about the Scout at each trader, she carries healing and you can get some good rewards for doing jobs for her, also you can level her up like you can the traders. You don't need to go permadeath in DF imo. Why not make a stone spear?

Great start to a series! Should be pretty awesome.
A few things Capp
1. The tomatoes and such can be grilled early game which increases food and eliminates food poisoning
2. If a zombie starts eating your kill it will damage the corpse the longer you let it eat and you will lose that much of the harvest
3. Big mommas are now just like cops (thanks Khaine)
4. The forge ahead DID unlock the forge but you have to be level 5.. You'll see a red checkmark meaning your requirement isn't met even though it's unlocked
5. item degradation is a thing in this mod. As you level up your crafting you'll increase the minimum level you craft at and items can degrade to.. if you have a high level item you can combine them in the workbench to repair without losing quality.. but it has to be near the same level item or it'll take quite a few to repair it

Man, this makes me want to play DF again. Of all the progression systems in 7d2d total conversion mods, DF's is my favourite.

Wow. Didn't think you were starting this so soon. Congratz on finding *all* the necessities right off the bat! May be the best start you've had in the last 4-5 runs. It's incredible, the things you can find hidden in stumps now, LOL.
Thinking you might need that Grain Alcohol for Molotovs, and it'll be awhile until you can make it.
Aaand...then your luck almost ran out on the very first POI. Well, let this serve as a reminder on how dangerously overwhelming _DF_ can be. Proper prep; serious resource gathering; greater caution/awareness of surroundings; always reinforcing your defences...these should all become your Watchwords & Practices from here on out.
Important Note: if you're going to be staying with the Trader for the first week, might want to do a sweep of the perimeter Repairing/Upgrading the walls. In every _Darkness Falls_ run I've seen, the Traders start off with various weak spots in their defenses. Also, *Remember to Close the Damn Trader Gates Behind You!* _DF_ zombies will actively wander/follow you in, and then you are SOL.

Yes if a zombie starts eating your chicken you get less meat. It starts pretty immediately too. Pretty much one quick bite and the meat loss begins

Great start
Yes, zombies slowly eat the bones, leather, meat ect from your kill. Don't forget, firing the bow from the hip uses no stamina and can slow the zombies advance enough in a pinch.

instead of scrapping iron bolts, you can take them apart and make iron arrows (you only lose the feathers).
Zombies have types now: slim, normal, strong, ranged (act like cops)
Always love more variety. That sounds fun fighting against.

I played 7d2d on console. So I remember the hornets! They were a pain but I'd rather deal with them than vultures

You could have also climbed up the town at the trader, there are some stairs leading up, for a better "lay of the land"...
Also the repair-mechanics is different (just like spatulamahn said). However if you have a workbench you can combine two items of the same and mostly gain some durabilty... ;)
Don't forget the crowbar is like a master lock pick.

Don't forget to search the stumps before you destroy it. I have found a few AK's there

HINT: You can use vending machines to tell the time :) Also the best classes early are those that allow for extra damage to zombs etc, hunter is a good one for chasing food, because most if not all building/craftings can be learnt from books etc

I started my first DF game yesterday. Had to travel 2km to find my first trader. It was trader Jen though, so no complaints. Almost immediately her compound was swarmed with zombies. But apparently she didn't kick me out during the night???? So I spent my first DF night with trader Jen... there are worse things.
Mind you, during the night I thought I 'd take on a few lone zombies for XP. But suddenly I got attacked by some transparent ghost creature shouting "You will suffer!". My first jumpscare in DF... Luckily I could return to good old Jen for comfort and she held me really tight until dawn...
The white river scout trader is for the DF story you have to do her quests. She's at each trader in a secret location.

Free wood is always good! I envy your good rng on the cookpot/grill on day one. took me almost 5 days. I did loose an entire chicken to the 2 zombies that swarmed it :(

Your last DF series was my favorite of all your content. There were some hilarious horde nights. You won't have the trader guard protection this time!
As I recall, repairing takes away from the overall level of the item - your 8 knife went to a 3 knife when you repaired it before it really needed it. At 28:47
But you can combine 2 of the same item at a work bench and the item could go up in levels
Aliso as you level up your crafting, items won't degrade below a certain point.. it starts at level 1 and each level of crafting increases the minimum by 10.. so with one point it'll never degrade before level 11 items

@Capp00 Just an FYI repairing items is different in Darkness falls, If you didn't notice that lvl8 bone knife dropped to a lvl3 when you repaired it.
Yes Zombies damage dead animals in a similar way to you harvesting them.

Hmm, I didn't get a notification and this video wasn't even showing on my recommended page. I had to search you under my subscriptions to see if you'd posted today. That's worrying. Good video though, personally I'd have preferred Joke mod or Wild West mod (which I'm playing through right now) but, no hate, I'll take DF as I know you'll enjoy it and make it an awesome series (as usual). Edit: To answer your question, yes, if a zombie chows on your kill, you will lose some of the meat. They can, and have in my case, eat all of it, a rabbit or chicken for example, if you leave them to it. It can be used tactically if you don't want to fight the zombie but and can kill an animal next near them.

I'm sure you remember that DF can require a lot of resource gathering. Don't be afraid to take a day once in a while where you just mine stuff or chop down a million trees without recording it.
Also, you may want to consider going for Blood Moon every _two_ weeks, in order to be able to both explore _and_ prep for the Horde. Maybe it won't be necessary, but it's probably a good idea to keep it in mind.
The game looks appropriately overwhelming, I see. Darkness Falls is... not a permadeath-friendly overhaul mod.

the stone hammer is the starter construction tool, trader protection is gone in Darkness Falls
