And the scariest thing about Dredd is... it wasn't about a big incident, it was about an average day the Judges have to face. One of the few movies that uses CGI and 3d effects efficiently and to their fullest. Really wish they had made the sequels.
i feel like the sheer response from Peach Tower was alot like “hitting the mansion” considering it’s claimed Ma Ma controls majority if not ALL of the slo - mo distribution towards the end of the movie and she is still seeking to expand into two more sectors i can’t name, definitely a great movie we can both attest to that though edit: obv my reply only will apply to the film adaptation though rather than a blanket lore statement
Yeah, thats called bombing. Just because you articulate why, or how, doesnt change the fact that it bombed. Sigh, I think you got a little ego on you, mr human.
This is by far, the most badass film I've ever seen, the scenes are just spectacular and the slowmo kills is mesmerizing to say the least, definitely would want a sequel.
The actor playing Dredd took a lot of guts playing a character knowing he won't be getting any fame as his face is hidden. I guess at least he got paid good in the end, he had no problem with it.
He had no problem with it as he was a 2000ad reader as a kid. He understands that Dredd's face is *never* seen. Even when injured (or a different character - that actually happened!!! A badly burned character swathed in bandages turned out to be Dredd; out in the Cursed Earth). I think Urban insisted on it lol
@@therealforeignwolf Yes he did, but because of his ego or bad direction his face was shown alot in the movie. The 2012 Dredd with Urban is in a league of its own.
I still remember that amazing game that featured Dredd against Judge Death, the horsemen Dark Judges. Loved doing my best in the game for that amazing Dredd quote: "I AM THE LAW!"
This is one of those rare movies that satisfies both your instant gratification fast food cravings, and a proper gourmet smoked salmon dish. Somewhere in between. Awesome, explosive action that delivers on all fronts and only leaves you hungry because you can't get enough of it.
What an awesome movie! I really wish there will be a sequel. I’d also like to see the Batman/Judge Dredd graphic novel be adapted to the big screen. Great video, thanks!
Yes, absolutely right. Due to my schedule at the time, I was unable to go see Dredd 2012 in theaters, but did later order it at home on cable. And I immediately regretted not seeing this astonishing film on the big screen. Scenes like the minigun scene, or Mamas last flight. I did order the DVD right away. I later viewed an interview with Carl Urban where he stated that DVDs were selling well due to word of mouth and the film gaining popularity later. It rightly has its loyal fanbase, of which I am a member. An amazing movie that stands on its own. Great commentary, well presented.
Dredd was so good in 3d at the theatre, probably one of the best uses of 3d in movies, made the slowmo and shoot-out scenes really pop i've watched it multiple times at home and in my opinion 3d on the big screen is the best way to watch it
Death, Fear and Fire are the three that I remember. I think that the fourth one was called famine but I'm not sure. They reasoned that as crime was committed by the living then life itself was a crime! Needless to say they preside over a dead world! They were repeat characters and were some of Dredd's most dangerous foes, especially as they couldn't be captured or even permanently killed. I'll have to dig out my Dredd year books and read the story again now. There was a follow up story where Dredd and Anderson actually went to their dimension to try to destroy them.
I really liked Karl Urban as Dredd. The newer Judge Dredd was a perfect representation of comic book Dredd come to big screen. That drug Slo-Mo was intense. Great film!
i have been told that even batman himself has met dredd ( with andreson stopping them ) and come to blows lol. there is a gamecube game called 'dredd vrs death' if yo want to get a look, someone may have done a play or review somewhere :)
During the 80's 2000ad ran a Dredd story which was an analogue of the Four horseman of the apocalypse. Four death judges came from another dimension where it was observed all crime was committed by the living and therefore made life a crime punishable by death. it has been revisited many times in the UK comic 2000ad where Dredd is still the main comic strip character.
I loved this film! I'm a big fan of the comics and I really appreciated this stripped back film that got to grips with the basics. It didn't have the budget to do Mega City One justice (no pun intended) so it focused most of the action in a Mega City towerblock. Actors and actresses were fabulous! I could tell that there was a lot of love behind this. Very nice review of one of my favourite films! Many thanks!
Imagine a zombie outbreak in the middle section of one of those complexes and they had to quarantine it, sending judges via helicopter form the roof entrance and fight their way down.
There's actually a story in the comics where most of Mega City One's citizens were turned into zombies by the Dark Judges. I think it's called Judgment Day or something.
Zen RD Your mixing two stories together. Necropolis is where The Dark Judges, aided by the Sisters of Death, use their infernal powers to take control of the Judges and MC1 before systematically ‘Judging’ (ie killing) the citizens. “The crime is life. The sentence is death”. Whereas Judgement Day centres on a Necromancer called Sabat who uses the planets own power to reanimate all the dead of the earth as zombies. Both stories are mind blowing.
It's only because his boots are too tight. Otherwise he's fairly relaxed in his off-time. Where relaxed means ready to kill lawbreakers at a moments notice if they interrupt his reading of the city law code and enjoying his synthi-caff. Without ever removing his helmet.

Really hope Karl Urban decides to reprise the role. Such a great Dredd.
Karl Urban is to Dredd, like Ryan Reynolds is to Deadpool.
He actually did say he would love to do more Dredd movies. He loves the character and the setting.
He could be a good Batman too.
Damn. Why have no one notice this. Karl Urban is essentially Arkham's Bruce Wayne, he got the bod, the talk and the look.
I thought I remember him saying he'd love to do it if a second one comes about.

Great film overall.
I don't think it bombed so much as it just fell short. I thought it made all the money back that was spent in making it o.O
Karl was superb with his rendition of Dredd. Made Stallone look like a amature, who of course had to have his face shown.
Greymark Urban's Dredd is MUCH superior to Stallone's "Er errrm...der leeerrrrr!"
Well, Stallone's Judge Dredd was meant to be a violent action comedy. It's still good, one of those so bad it's fun films.
No street judge would remove their helmet in the field.
Karl is a great actor, loved him on Doom, great as Dr. McCoy, was on a TV show as a cop with a robot. All around great actor.

this movie was clearly sabotaged by the studio by ordering a 3d only release...
Unfortunately it was the buzzword at the time. So many films released in 3D and many re-made as 3D, even when it didn't make sense.
