Really hope Karl Urban decides to reprise the role. Such a great Dredd.
Karl Urban is to Dredd, like Ryan Reynolds is to Deadpool.
He actually did say he would love to do more Dredd movies. He loves the character and the setting.
He could be a good Batman too.
Damn. Why have no one notice this. Karl Urban is essentially Arkham's Bruce Wayne, he got the bod, the talk and the look.
I thought I remember him saying he'd love to do it if a second one comes about.
I loved this movie, of all the movies that get pointless sequels, this one deserves one more than most.
For sure!
Nina bobo
Amen
Wait I thought this was a reboot
THE COLD SAMURAI It is, I’m saying it deserves a sequel.
(Deep voice): bike activate crowd control.
Now honestly this is one of my favourite movies. Underrated gem
Same here! Violence done beautifully :)
FilmComicsExplained yep.specialy the beggining part and the fight ti the top of the skyscrapper.its just dystopian cyberpunk goodness
The motorcycle should have also deployed a police line strips to activate crowd control and not just speaking to the crowd 😅
And the scariest thing about Dredd is... it wasn't about a big incident, it was about an average day the Judges have to face.
One of the few movies that uses CGI and 3d effects efficiently and to their fullest.
Really wish they had made the sequels.
The narrative cohesion with it being under the effects of a drug that puts everything into slow motion is fantastic.
I love it. This is only one work day. Lol
i feel like the sheer response from Peach Tower was alot like “hitting the mansion” considering it’s claimed Ma Ma controls majority if not ALL of the slo - mo distribution towards the end of the movie and she is still seeking to expand into two more sectors i can’t name, definitely a great movie we can both attest to that though
edit: obv my reply only will apply to the film adaptation though rather than a blanket lore statement
One of my favorite movies of all time. Really wish for a sequel
me too :(
Me too.
did Danny DeVito give u that name?
If he does the TV series and it does good, we could possibly get a new movie.
The Toll Troll me too and my dad
Karl was superb with his rendition of Dredd. Made Stallone look like a amature, who of course had to have his face shown.
Greymark Urban's Dredd is MUCH superior to Stallone's "Er errrm...der leeerrrrr!"
Well, Stallone's Judge Dredd was meant to be a violent action comedy. It's still good, one of those so bad it's fun films.
No street judge would remove their helmet in the field.
Karl is a great actor, loved him on Doom, great as Dr. McCoy, was on a TV show as a cop with a robot. All around great actor.
@Bigg Papa A+ Trolling 👍
I cannot believe this movie bombed.. It is so good!
Yeah, thats called bombing. Just because you articulate why, or how, doesnt change the fact that it bombed. Sigh, I think you got a little ego on you, mr human.
War Against Myself don't worry a tv series is coming out.
With Karl? Now that would be epic. I wanted a sequel so bad.
Great film overall.
I don't think it bombed so much as it just fell short. I thought it made all the money back that was spent in making it o.O
Loved this film, they really need to make a sequel with proper promotion.
How this movie hasn't received a sequel is beyond me... this was one of the best action movies I've ever seen.
The actor playing Dredd took a lot of guts playing a character knowing he won't be getting any fame as his face is hidden. I guess at least he got paid good in the end, he had no problem with it.
He had no problem with it as he was a 2000ad reader as a kid. He understands that Dredd's face is *never* seen. Even when injured (or a different character - that actually happened!!! A badly burned character swathed in bandages turned out to be Dredd; out in the Cursed Earth).
I think Urban insisted on it lol
Karl Urban's mouth is recognisable from miles away.
He's bones in star trek
Didn’t Stallone play dredd ? I doubt it matters if your face is covered lol
@@therealforeignwolf
Yes he did, but because of his ego or bad direction his face was shown alot in the movie. The 2012 Dredd with Urban is in a league of its own.
I really liked the ‘12 dredd movie! Karl did a hell of a job pulling off a gritty AF dredd.
Yeh man I agree!
Why weren't any sequels made?
No idea why, it was a quality film in pretty much every respect!.... It deserved to have a full trilogy imo
It really does
@@puppetmasterey It failed at the box office
This is by far, the most badass film I've ever seen, the scenes are just spectacular and the slowmo kills is mesmerizing to say the least, definitely would want a sequel.
He is the Law! The most underated action movie when it was released, Love this movie, I wish they continue this with Urban as Dredd.
darkovilos ikr
I still remember that amazing game that featured Dredd against Judge Death, the horsemen Dark Judges.
Loved doing my best in the game for that amazing Dredd quote: "I AM THE LAW!"
What game?
This movie was so badass.
As much as I like the original for its campiness this one blew it out of the water
I could tell it was Karl Urban just by his jaw
AvenjaNinja A jaw worthy of Dredd.
Thats a mans jaw ✊ take one look at that thing and naaah man i surrender
Leave it to you to find the philosophical undertones in a Judge Dredd movie. Karl Urban is such a great actor!!
This is one of those rare movies that satisfies both your instant gratification fast food cravings, and a proper gourmet smoked salmon dish. Somewhere in between. Awesome, explosive action that delivers on all fronts and only leaves you hungry because you can't get enough of it.
Little bit of creativity, little bit of care. Makes a perfectly satisfying dish.
One of my favorite films the soundtrack that went with it was amazing, nicely explored great vid dude keep it up !!
This was such a underrated movie!
Mr. Urban is a underrated actor.
The way Karl keeps that snarl/scowl on his face throughout the whole film is great. It's a great film.
This was an absolutely brilliant rendition. So sad it bombed. Insanely underrated. We need more.
its about time for another dread movie
Karl Urban is one of my favorite actors!!
Yes! Been hoping you would go into this after watching your Dredd v Predator videos.
Loved this movie, I hope they do green light a sequel.
An incredible film with a great soundtrack.
What an awesome movie! I really wish there will be a sequel. I’d also like to see the Batman/Judge Dredd graphic novel be adapted to the big screen. Great video, thanks!
Best line of the film..
"What happened?"
"Drug bust. Perps were uncooperative."
I really liked Karl Urban as Dredd. The newer Judge Dredd was a perfect representation of comic book Dredd come to big screen. That drug Slo-Mo was intense. Great film!
Imagine a zombie outbreak in the middle section of one of those complexes and they had to quarantine it, sending judges via helicopter form the roof entrance and fight their way down.
There's actually a story in the comics where most of Mega City One's citizens were turned into zombies by the Dark Judges. I think it's called Judgment Day or something.
@@zainabe9503 woah
Zen RD Your mixing two stories together. Necropolis is where The Dark Judges, aided by the Sisters of Death, use their infernal powers to take control of the Judges and MC1 before systematically ‘Judging’ (ie killing) the citizens. “The crime is life. The sentence is death”. Whereas Judgement Day centres on a Necromancer called Sabat who uses the planets own power to reanimate all the dead of the earth as zombies. Both stories are mind blowing.
@@douglasarthur2673 sounds very similar to the game dredd v death
I'm not familiar with Judge Dredd's canon but that sounds like an awesome idea for a video game.
Wait, what?! They're undead judges??? Can you do a vid on that in the future? It kinda interesting heheh :)
Yeh i know right, and of course, will add them to the list now :)
i have been told that even batman himself has met dredd ( with andreson stopping them ) and come to blows lol. there is a gamecube game called 'dredd vrs death' if yo want to get a look, someone may have done a play or review somewhere :)
During the 80's 2000ad ran a Dredd story which was an analogue of the Four horseman of the apocalypse. Four death judges came from another dimension where it was observed all crime was committed by the living and therefore made life a crime punishable by death. it has been revisited many times in the UK comic 2000ad where Dredd is still the main comic strip character.
A good video dude thank you and keep up the good work
Urban was perfect, and film was true to the incredible comics
Dredd was so good in 3d at the theatre, probably one of the best uses of 3d in movies, made the slowmo and shoot-out scenes really pop i've watched it multiple times at home and in my opinion 3d on the big screen is the best way to watch it
this movie was clearly sabotaged by the studio by ordering a 3d only release...
Unfortunately it was the buzzword at the time. So many films released in 3D and many re-made as 3D, even when it didn't make sense.
man if we're looking at dredd you gotta do demolition man that was an awesome movie in my opinion
Oh yeah sounds good! i might also take a look at Stallones Dredd at some point. Adding them both to the list now :)
ProToken 420 I'm sure he has maybe he meant look into doing a video on it
Demolition Man...Wesley Snipes goes absolutely fucking batshit insane, and it's great!
I didn't even know there were Undead Judges.
Darth Sidious because they are *D E A D* already
gaze into the face of fear.............gaze into the fist of dredd!!!
Death, Fear and Fire are the three that I remember. I think that the fourth one was called famine but I'm not sure. They reasoned that as crime was committed by the living then life itself was a crime! Needless to say they preside over a dead world! They were repeat characters and were some of Dredd's most dangerous foes, especially as they couldn't be captured or even permanently killed.
I'll have to dig out my Dredd year books and read the story again now. There was a follow up story where Dredd and Anderson actually went to their dimension to try to destroy them.
Just subscribed yesterday after watching your doom and event horizon video, woke up to this.... Super happy
And in doing so you are now getting a healthy dosage of Karl Urban :)
The slo mo scene during the raid had my heart pumping
Could you do a Dunkirk (2017) explored? Btw great video as usual.
Sure! will add it to the list now buddy :)
FilmComicsExplained Thanks look forward to it :)
Karl Urban Frickin nailed it.
Yes, absolutely right. Due to my schedule at the time, I was unable to go see Dredd 2012 in theaters, but did later order it at home on cable. And I immediately regretted not seeing this astonishing film on the big screen. Scenes like the minigun scene, or Mamas last flight. I did order the DVD right away. I later viewed an interview with Carl Urban where he stated that DVDs were selling well due to word of mouth and the film gaining popularity later. It rightly has its loyal fanbase, of which I am a member. An amazing movie that stands on its own. Great commentary, well presented.
I love dredd. I always thought people had just forgotten about him. It makes me sad that there’s almost no content like this movie. I love it so much but nobody ever makes any movies for it ::
Dredd is a masterful film. It's a mixture of dirty harry, training day. As a a kid who grew up reading 2000AD this is everything I could have wanted.
I agree about the 3D as this put me off and I didn't bother watching at the cinema. When it came out on dvd I was like OMG. This is brilliant. I fully support this style of cinematography, storyline, characterisation for a series.
Keith Urban is PERFECTLY cast as Dredd. Dredd is Clint Eastwood as dirty harry.
I'd love to see all the other storylines drawn in, the dark judges, drawing out the wasteland etc.
Using the effects for ultra violence in slow motion with in setting justification for why is top tier filmmaking.
Please do The raid next one, it's a masterpice franchise and you will love it
I mean the Raid is why Dredd bombed because people were comparing it to all hell going super elitist only watching 1 over the other with even the critics.
Dissapointing really
This movie is outstanding and one of the best comic to film adaptations I've ever seen. I can't sing its praises enough.
Man I miss playing the video game version
He's not avery dreadful person once you get to know him...far worse I reckon.
True dat!
It's only because his boots are too tight. Otherwise he's fairly relaxed in his off-time. Where relaxed means ready to kill lawbreakers at a moments notice if they interrupt his reading of the city law code and enjoying his synthi-caff. Without ever removing his helmet.
kirby march Barcena shut up
Idiot...I didn't even talk so why would I do that?
kirby march Barcena he is a heartless tyrant. If you are police, judge, jury and executioner all at once that automatically makes you a heartless tyrant. It's part of the definition of tyrant.
CRIMINALLY UNDERRATED MOVIE OF ALL TIME. God I hope a sequel for this comes out. Captured the setting so good.
Thanks for doing one of my favorite movies! Karl Urban's performance was magnificent.
You should do one of these on daybreakers it's a awesome vampire movie with a really original premise
I loved this film! I'm a big fan of the comics and I really appreciated this stripped back film that got to grips with the basics. It didn't have the budget to do Mega City One justice (no pun intended) so it focused most of the action in a Mega City towerblock.
Actors and actresses were fabulous! I could tell that there was a lot of love behind this.
Very nice review of one of my favourite films! Many thanks!
As soon as i seen that guy splatter on the windscreen Dredd AD just pop into my head. Awsome movie!!
The clarity of this movie on bluray is insane
Producers: Let's have a 3D-Only theater release
Producers: Why did this bomb?
Hey what's up great video
Thanks David!
I was so into 2000AD as a kid. Bought it from age 7 to age 16 (only stopped because my family moved to Asia). There's no way this stuff could be made into a single film, it needs to be a series. With CGI it can happen. It really annoys me that it hasn't happened yet. It's simply incredible and once some production company commits to it they'll make a huge amount of cash if it's done properly.
This is one of those under the radar film that's really good, but greatly under appreciated.
If there were no courts just one person that acted as judge jury and executioner in each city, would the crime rate decrease out of fear of the judge or would it increase from people trying to make an example out of the judges?
RollingxBigshot Interesting question... I think it's the latter of the two. People don't react well to being dominated by fear...
RollingxBigshot Both. it would be a mix of both regular citizens would be in fear however Criminals will view the judge as an invitation of challenge to their own markets or to their rule over civilians.
For a government to be healthy it should be the latter.
I love how this move has become a cult classic. People didn’t go to see it in theaters but since then more and more people have realized what a gem it is. Hopefully there is a sequel with Karl Urban. But I’m also happy that at least this one was made. I don’t like when sequels are crap.
Judgement time, what a awesome film.
I can’t understand how this film was ignored by most, it is awesome. For the love of all things decent, someone make a sequel still using Karl Urban & Olivia Thirlby. This film makes the Stallone version look pants.
One of the best comic book films ever imo. Karl Urban is a great judge dredd and Lena Headey as mama is an amazing villain. Shame they never got to continue the trilogy but fortunately it works perfectly as a standalone film
I clicked on this video, paused halfway through, found this movie on Stan and wondered why I have never heard or seen of this super underrated movie.
Watched and loved it!!!! I hope they make a sequel!😎👍
Legitimately one of my favorite comic book films, pure character and story
To bad this movie isn't getting a sequel. It was actually good
Perfect exploration. I actually enjoyed this version a bit more than the original. Dredd is definitely more badass in this one. This is the Dredd I've always wanted to see. Similar to the comic book Judge Dredd.
Anyway, great video, and thanks for the upload. Thumbs up!
This *is* the original. Simple.
Best Judge Dredd movie. Urban rocked and Garland is a goddamed gift to the film industry, I have loved every movie he’s been involved with.
I went and saw this in theaters. It was freaking amazing in 3D. Unlike most movies that had shoehorned 3D moments into an otherwise 2D film, this one was shot to utilize the 3D format to its fullest, sinking you right into the nit and grit. It was well worth the couple extra bucks for admission.
This is one of the best comic movies in my opinion
Great movie. Very under-rated imo. Love the gritty, violent world it was as opposed to the goofy Stallone version
Such an amazing movie. So underrated!!
Take notes post 2016
This is how you have “strong female characters” and a really well played strong female villain
WITHOUT ruining the main character or the original IP
A simply AWESOME movie!
This channel is one of my favorite channels on youtube right now, it’s pretty fucking close neck and with many a true nerd
I love this movie so much! Quick action, atmosphere, great characters and most of all, no unnecessary drama.
you are doing an amazing job! keep up the great work, i really enjoy your channel :)
Thanks buddy!
I love the sound design of this movie so much.
I would never break the LUR!
I AM THE LURRR!
This rendition was far superior to the original movie. I loved the dark, visceral and supremely dystopian vibe of Mega City 1 and the entire setting was perfected to a T. I still have my fingers crossed for a sequel some day.
I loved this movie, between the sound track, atmosphere, visual effects, characters and writing. This movie is so cool.
I literally just watched this lol
The gunfire and gore in this movie was up there among the best. I really, really enjoyed this film and rewatch it from time to time. It's got grit for years to come.
Along with pandorum this is one my all time favorites. Me and my wife go to sleep almost every night to one of those.
I accidentally broke a vase at home and my mom is surely going to find out. Im So DREDD
One of my favorite dredd movie ever, this is way better the Sylvester Stallone movie judge dredd.
Also there is a game called dishonored 1 (2012) where there is a reference about this in the game
If cyberpunk 2077 need a movie this is the movie to be 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 also one of the best reboots I seen
It's not a reboot. This is the version worked on with the creators of Dredd. The...other...was a cheap cash grab. This is the *only* Dredd novie...
This Film Was META!! One of the Best Action Movies Ever!
Such and underrated film, I was so happy I caught this gem in theaters. The score for this film was so good! I'd kill to see a sequal with Carl urban and a film that expands the story. The cinematography was so unique and stunningly beautify.
I don't know how this channel passed me by but i''m glad i finally stumbled upon it.
Your voice, editing and your own insight into your videos is absolutely breathtaking. With every video you make i feel like i'm stepping into a new world which i have not seen before.
Truly outstanding work, please don't ever stop doing what you do
Lena headey killed it as mama, she was terrifying
Judge Dredd would fit into the Adeptus Arbites like a finely made glove.
Loved this movie the first time I saw it, loved it so much I own it on dvd
Just one sentence necessary :
100% better than the first one. Was really fun to watch ( knowing the other one as well ).
Arguably the only person capable of going toe-to-toe with Doomguy, Dredd.
A sequel to this would thrive in today’s market. R rated comic adaptations are huge right now. Shame that the studio didn’t see the point at the time
