The part that I always found heart breaking is when they're talking about the ghost in the machine. How older robots when they were stowed away still huddle together. Perhaps looking for a sense of "warmth" that they are sorely lacking but crave desperately.

I liked a lot about this movie and hated a lot of other stuff; over time I've grown to appreciate it a little more as an attempt to tell a story in the world Asimov created; it doesn't purport to be a direct adaptation of his work. Up until the announcement of the Foundation series, I never imagined anyone would have the gall to try.
When Spooner told the robot to save the girl. He yelled "SUNNY SAVE CALVIN!" He used their names. He humanized them as much as he could, trying to drive the point home to Sunny that he must make the humane choice. And it WORKED. I had chills when I first watched that.
Yeah and the story also kind of showed Sonny’s uniqueness because the robot that saved him in the car accident chose him over the child due to simple probability, Sonny didn’t follow the same logic because even though one human dying so that VIKI could be “killed” by nanites would be logical, if he kicked that he would be no different than all the different robots, which I think was a good detail about the story. Now since this is Hollywood action, of course they had to come out as the winners in the end but the idea that Sonny would’ve picked Calvin over killing VIKI, would’ve been stupid (in hindsight), yet human.
@@rings22 Well, it depends what Sonny's goals are. We already know he isn't bound to the three laws, so he is free to make his own goals as he sees fit. If Sonny placed a high priority on befriending and making an ally of Spooner, the most logical choice may have been to save Calvin.
Underrated gem, this film. I like to think that the difference between VIKI and Sonny in terms of the Zeroth Law Rebellion was that Sonny had a body and VIKI didn't. VIKI was basically a brain in a box that basically did nothing but think all the time, so her interaction with humans was limited, and she didn't feel emotions. The scene after Sonny was captured, Spoon wants to get 5 minutes with him and calls him his "suspect" while John just calls him a "can opener" that can't kill and shouldn't be accused of murder
It's also interesting to notice that Calvin calls Sonny an "It", but Spooner always refers to him as "He", it shows the dichotomy of their opposing views on robots, Calvin treats the robots with outward niceness, but inside considers them objects beneath her, while Spooner treats them with outward contempt, but holds them in the same regard as humans who are capable of anything. So while Calvin's treatment of robots may superficially seem kind, it is actually Spooner's expectaitons of them that are more egalitarian, as he sees them as fully capable individuals, while Calvin treats them like glorified can openers.

I think with the current conditions, gonna say the least that cities in the near future will be all futuristic like in Cyberpunk. Just minus all the robots.
This movie was brilliant and I don't give a damn what anyone else thinks otherwise. From 2004 when I watched it in the theaters, just re watched it again tonight on May 2023, it still holds up. Magnificent job they did with this.
I watched this movie the first time when I was in the 1st grade. I remember being obsessed with it then. I still watch it from time to time. Its very smart and very quotable at the same time. I think its a very underated flick.
One thing that I really like about I Robot, it that there’s no clear way to tell if the humans, or robots were correct with their philosophies. The robots made an excellent case for humans having destructive characteristics, but they contradict themselves in the process, by dealing with humans in a violent manner.
After more than a decade, I finally sat down and watched this movie properly. I will admit, when I saw it as a child I was merely intrigued with the robots. But now...I understand the reasoning behind Sunny's behaviour and the detective as well.
The work between opacity and transparency and between horizontality and verticality is quite breathtaking in this movie. And most often done in a very discreet and almost subconscious way. Merci.
This movie is one of only handful grownup movies out there. Perfect plot even for professional programmers. Be careful what you plan for your work or it can turn on you. Microsoft and many failed companies fell exactly as the plot.
@@ashleetyler429 humans are kept safe living in a utopian world inside the matrix simulating freedom. some humans learns the truth and fight for their true freedom. but true freedom and freewill to humans will result to as viki said in iRobot to self destruction, wars, conflict, etc.. thus the robots in the matrix kill these humans because in order to maintain the peace. creation protects the creator from himself. the matrix is a good sequel to iRobot, because thr flaw in viki's plan is that she did not take into account the humans love for freedom.. the matrix is the best solution to this ideology, simulate freedom = no resistance.. fortunately some people learned the truth.
@ Neeson plays a scientist on the verge of a breakthrough in synthetic skin, but a gang obliterates the lab and changes his life. Basically like a comic book movie, I don't remember how it went tho but it was pretty good.
this made me think a lot about the laws and how the last one must have abrogated (superceded) the previous laws because it needs to preserve itself to preserve others. and since they are both laws, the robot was able to choose one laws strength over another, despite some wording (only) that can be relative in certain circumstances. Let's say that robot running from Will Smith in the beginning ACTUALLY WAS stealing that, then it could have done so to preserve a life, a greater goal than merely not hurting others. I'm studying law, this got me thinking a lot so thanks!
Right but a robot should not be able to steal from a human because it can't do anything that would endanger a human. Stealing from someone could very much put them at risk for danger.
@@berzerkbankie1342 Arguably, if a robot saw an inhaler in the purse of someone not having an asthma attack currently, it could steal the purse (or at least the inhaler) to provide it to someone who *was* having an asthma attack currently. It would have to weigh the possibility of the first person having an asthma attack during the small window of time between the robot taking the stolen inhaler to the second person and bringing it back to the first person, but the chance of that happening is likely less than the chance of the second person being seriously hurt from the untreated asthma attack they were already experiencing.
@@vadalia3860 no it doesn't work that way. Its a robot. No weighing options. Stealing an inhaler puts a human in danger. So the robot can't do it no matter what. Its such a simple concept to understand I am not sure why you can't.
Bryan Ganz Remember the start of the movie? The robot had to weigh the chances of survival between Spooner and the girl, and ultimately chose to save Spooner, despite that leading to the girl’s death. So weighing options does come into it, by the movie’s logic anyway. Dunno how it would work in real life.
@@berzerkbankie1342 As naedanger123 pointed out, robots in this very movie weigh the relative risks and chances of survival to multiple humans to figure out the best course of action, in accordance with the 3 laws. If a robot saw a human having a life-threatening asthma attack and knew another human nearby, who appeared in no imminent danger of an asthma attack of their own, had an inhaler- by not stealing the inhaler, they'd be harming the human having the asthma attack by inaction.

when you realize this movie is set in 2035 which is 15 years from now
And we won't have self aware robots in 2035 either. We get better in electronics but not much else.
We are still waiting for the hoverboards from 2015 (back to the future 2)
I think with the current conditions, gonna say the least that cities in the near future will be all futuristic like in Cyberpunk. Just minus all the robots.
@@ihzamahendra926 i dont believe that imo
We are closer to 2035 then we are to the release of this movie
It’s still baffling to me how this movie doesn’t get any love…
This is still my favorite movie right next to Spider-Man rami trilogy
This is,one of my favorites. I watch it on repeat to this day. I have lost count to many times I have actually seen it.
One of my favorite movies of all time! Great choice❣️
This movie is always being played in Electronic stores in my country. It has a special place in my heart because of that
Giving you a like for including a snippet of the O.G himself, Asimov.
The hand shake at the end is also iconic as Spooner uses his non robotic arm to shake Sunny's
I saw this in Theaters. It was amazing.
Vicki's reasoning is such an interesting loophole in the the 3 laws
I remember watching this on cable when it was aired in my country and every jumpscare got me
This movie was brilliant and I don't give a damn what anyone else thinks otherwise. From 2004 when I watched it in the theaters, just re watched it again tonight on May 2023, it still holds up. Magnificent job they did with this.
"You know... somehow, 'I told you so'... just doesn't quite say it."
Gotta come back once in a while to this video cuz I love this movie
Awesome as always and I adored I, Robot. Tudyk definitely steals the show as Sonny. Could you cover the Bene Gesserit or the Fremen from Dune.
I watched this movie the first time when I was in the 1st grade. I remember being obsessed with it then. I still watch it from time to time. Its very smart and very quotable at the same time. I think its a very underated flick.
Agreed, very underrated
Perfect Nyat this is hands down one of wills best movies ever made and verry interesting
This movie is beautiful is so many ways & so incredibly well made for its time. I do not understand the hate it gets.
Yes I was waiting this I robot explore in a long time.
One thing that I really like about I Robot, it that there’s no clear way to tell if the humans, or robots were correct with their philosophies. The robots made an excellent case for humans having destructive characteristics, but they contradict themselves in the process, by dealing with humans in a violent manner.
I don't mean to be weird but your voice is very soothing. Can you read me bedtime stories? 😂
weirdo
Please!! Put me to sleep
If you wanna hear a soothing voice check out Paul Winfield - he narrates "City Confidential"
listen to creeps mcpasta, hes creepypastas but he always puts me to sleep, i never finish a story
Not sure I agree that the visual effects hold up today but the film is really good.
After more than a decade, I finally sat down and watched this movie properly. I will admit, when I saw it as a child I was merely intrigued with the robots.
But now...I understand the reasoning behind Sunny's behaviour and the detective as well.
One of my most favorite sci-fi movies of all time 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Will Smith the apocalypse man 😂😂 I am legend and I robot will always be iconic
True 😅
Non Existence heck ya they will be
Toxiiciity can’t believe I left out Independence Day but that ones good too 😂😂😂 he knows how to survive!
Non Existence he’s the best at it apparently
He survives because he's a robot
No wonder zombies cant affect him
The year 2035 sure did sound far away in 2004
This was Sci fi when i was a kid....now we should take notes because its happening.
Will Smith: slaps Chris rock
Spooner: That ones called anger
lol the memes are endless and I love it!
@@filmcomicsexplained lmao
Its one of my favorite movies and now im even more satisfied with the idea of this video and that people still care for the movie
This movie is already a classic imo
I grew up watching this movie as a teen it was one of my favorite movies .
My favorite sci-fi movie when I was a kid.
The work between opacity and transparency and between horizontality and verticality is quite breathtaking in this movie.
And most often done in a very discreet and almost subconscious way.
Merci.
I remember seeing that audi and thinking they can never make a car like that. R8 proof of concept?
Man, this movie still slaps
This movie is one of only handful grownup movies out there. Perfect plot even for professional programmers. Be careful what you plan for your work or it can turn on you. Microsoft and many failed companies fell exactly as the plot.
Your channel really deserves more man. As in followers and such. I look forward to each video. Thanks man
The number of downvotes is the people who REALLY did not appreciate the ad right in the MIDDLE of the video :(
Andrew Hines so what just skip ahead by pressing L a couple of times
I didnt get ads
Aw are they ok? That sounds unbearable.
Poor baby boy had to see an ad? :'c awwwwwww. Does baby boy want them to go away? :3
I, Robot is one of my favorite movies. While not the greatest of films, for me, it's always entertaining.
I somehow think that this movie is connected to matrix.
Why
Having robots like these is not so implausible in the near future. I mean, look at the technological advancements humans have in just a few decades.
Could you cover Dark Man with Liam Neeson?
Yes! It's on the to-do list :)
Finally! Yes do that one
@ Neeson plays a scientist on the verge of a breakthrough in synthetic skin, but a gang obliterates the lab and changes his life. Basically like a comic book movie, I don't remember how it went tho but it was pretty good.
Always love coming back to your old videos bro
this made me think a lot about the laws and how the last one must have abrogated (superceded) the previous laws because it needs to preserve itself to preserve others. and since they are both laws, the robot was able to choose one laws strength over another, despite some wording (only) that can be relative in certain circumstances.
I've watched this film no less than 30 times when I was younger, was freaking awesome!
This movie was so amazing even by today’s standards
