We Fitted a Fridge Fan

We had a fridge vent fan installed, the reason for having this installed, was I don’t know if you know but caravan style fridge only work 25 to 30 deg below ambient temperatures, so if the temperature, so if the outside temperature is 35 deg you will only get about 10 to 15 deg in the fridge. By fitting one of these fan kits, you help the fridge remove the hot air from the back and assist with the cooling. Also running on gas in hot temperatures seems to work better than running on mains electricity. It is quite an easy install to carry out yourself with simple DIY skills, however I just ran out of time before we were going to France, I have the caravan at the dealers for some other work and asked if they would do this as well.

Hi James, have had the Titan fans for a couple of years and they certainly make a difference. Let’s be honest caravan fridges are rubbish but the fans do improve performance. Currently in France with daytime temps pushing 30 degrees and the ice is still ok for a G&T. Compared to Dometic or Truma options the Titan fans are much better. Fitted ours as a diy fit and easy to install. Went for the bigger size set of fans but had to trim the vent housing to get them in.

Hi James, Ideal for the hotter spells we’re having and your France trips ☀. The dealer looks to have done a good job there 👍. I fitted the genuine Thetford kit to our fridge and the genuine Dometic kit to a friends caravan. They fit in dedicated positions directly to the back of the fridge depending on the fridge model. This ensures free air flow through the grilles when the fan is not running. Happy travels and all the best, Rob 😀
Hi Rob, thanks for watching, Agree these are very useful in the hot weather and not expensive, I don't know what the cost of the OEM, ones from Domestic & Thetford are but this was around £70.00. Happy Camping James

The fans look like they are fitted backwards? you want to supplement the natural convection of the fresh air in the bottom and out the top, so the fans need to blow out not in, unless these fans are running in the reverse of normal fans?
Hi, Thanks for watching. The fans are running in the correct direction and pulling air in the bottom vent and out the top vent through the fans. They also have an airflow direction arrow on the side to show the correct way of fitting. I wonder if it's the frame rate of the camera that makes them look like they are running backwards. Hi Ken, it sure did make a difference, I fitted one to the last van, and in hot weather it really does help to keep the fridge cool, when its really hot, I try to run the fridge on gas as well as that helps also. Thanks for watching and commenting, James
I’m currently in France on the Ile de Re. I’m so pleased I decided to fit the Titan fans to my caravan before we left. I bought the digital version and it works brilliantly. We’re experiencing outside temps of 26 C and it’s been up to 38 C in the awning but the fridge is working better than ever, even on electric.
