  • This pioneer cassette deck CT-F700 from 78/79 is a beauty. If you are having a problem with FF/REW-PLAY, perhaps it need's new belts....watch my video and see how easy it was to change these belts...

Yep, Pioneer from the 70s, sounds great easy to service. I love how flipped the mechanism to service.

Nice repair Joe. Loved your tip on how to change the capstan belt easier than taking the transport all apart.

Thanks for another wonderful video. Great job with the belts. Liked how you used a caliper to select the correct size belts.

With those 70's Japanese cassette decks, there seemed to be two camps for the FF and RW. Some manufacturers used idler wheels and some used gears. I believe the idler wheel designs were supposed to be an upgrade, as they would produce "whisper quiet" FF and RW. However, they don't age as well and need a lot of care to keep them running right (i.e. new tires, rejuvenation, increasing spring tension, etc.). The gear designs make more noise but are much more reliable.

Majority of vintage cassette players have sluggish rewind due to idler tire as you mentioned. They are slower on 120 or 90 minute tapes due to weigh, but perform better on 60 or 30 minutes tapes. I have been following your repair videos, and always enjoyed them since you explain in detail. As usual great job Joe.

The owner of the cassette deck send them along with the unit so I couldn't tell you were he got them...

The Clutch mechanism on the idler is the weak spot! Keeps FF &REW from working properly.

Did you ever think of some kind of foot switch/petal to hold your turntable still? Maybe magnetic?

@@VintageAudioFever electro magnetic, maybe some steel under the turntable. Or even something that causes friction . Would free up a hand.
