@@ReluctantWarrior Zilla wouldn't work at all for this game. All he does is running around, basically he is the opposite of the usual Godzilla monsters.
The only big downside was that Godzilla and a handful of other monsters had an actually half decent moveset. I dare you to try getting to the final stage with Showa Mechagodzilla. Some of the monsters are just so clunky and unwieldy that they're virtually unplayable in the main "campaign".
@Godzilla Son That's not what I mean. What I mean is that you compare Showa Mechagodzilla's pool of abilities and combos to Destoroyah and you'll notice a large discrepancy.
Played destroy all monsters melee, save the earth, unleashed and this one. The previous 3 were fun to play with friends and had good replayability but despite the issues in this I do like the slower combat and the more original feel.
@@ThadeadMFKZ6 Check out small gaming stores. Found one where I live owned and ran by like 1 lady, and they have like every ps2 game I could want for like $10. I'm going to start checking for Godzilla.
Thank you for being one of the few who actually understand that this is NOT a fighting game. I have gotten tired of having that argument with so many people.
It's actually a puzzle game. You have to plan out your rampage route so you're constantly destroying buildings to keep your combo meter high so you can quickly grow your kaiju. Then the opposing kaiju shows up and you have to plan how you'll fight him while destroying buildings to keep your meter up. It's not really meant to be a fighting game. But what results from this gameplay routine, and as you noted, is the rampage and kaiju battle look and feel like an authentic Toho battle. The game needed more time in development to flesh out its features and gameplay loop to justify a full price tag. There's a better Godzilla game in this concept that we'll unfortunately never get to see. There was no good reason other than greedy cash in to port the existing game, which was an intentional low budget Japanese release, at full price. If you're a true Toho Godzilla and videogame fan this game is a must have for the fan service it does right.
It took a year but I sold my PS5 digital and bought a disc version recently just so I could play this game again lol ...I got this game when it was only $25 in stores ...Thank goodness I still had it😅
Honestly I'm still figuring out how to do a good run with Anguirus. Most other kaiju have moves that can close the distance between buildings well but I suck ass as Anguirus.
@Gothic Glypso um ok, But like not every game with local multiplayer is a fighting game like Mario or Halo, also it does have a multiplayer where you fight each other even if it isn’t very good, there was no reason for it to be online only, jeez did you even think before writing this comment
Same. I think because they no longer make new copies and essentially "discontinued" it, copies are selling for jacked prices. Funny how this guy was saying it isnt worth it for the price, and now the price is tripled.
This game was originally why I bought a PS4, and I never regretted it, even at its full release price. I played it constantly until everything was unlocked and all trophies earned. It definitely got a little tedious at times, but like you said in the video, it captures the feel of the movies so perfectly and I loved it for that. And what a kaiju roster! It's been a few years since I last played it, but after watching this review, I'm getting the itch again. :)
In my opinion, this game, while pretty flawed, was a step in the right direction for Godzilla games. *Pros:* The models. The monsters feel highly detailed and accurate. It succeeds in making you feel like you're playing a Godzilla movie. The destruction. The buildings blow up not like in real life, but how they would on a Godzilla set. Really strengthens the immersion. The movement. This is where many fans are split, but I honestly liked the tank controls and slow movement for the monsters. In many other games, they behaved more like kickboxers or wrestlers rather than building-sized kaiju. The awareness of the source material. There's many little touches in the game that true fans can appreciate, like Jet Jaguar's theme, Mecha King Ghidorah's claw attack and the many monster entrance cutscenes that reference the old movies. Master Of Destruction/ Evolution mode. I like that you can grow and evolve your monster with this mode. Buying New abilities and refining ones you already have gives the game a sense of progress, one of my favorite aspects in a video game. The increasing activity of the military. The more destruction you cause, the more weapons the humans sent your way. From the usual tanks, fighter jets and battleships to submarines, mesa tanks and even Super X-1, 2, 3 and Gotengo. Especially the latter four can put you in a bad position if you're not careful. *Cons:* No real block ability. The closest thing we get is a temporary roar block, but that only helps you out shortly. I'd rather have a block that prevents most of the damage, but not all of it, along with attacks that are unblockable to counter it. Boring maps. I understand that most Godzilla movies, especially the fights, mostly take place in cities. But I'd welcome a bit more color and variety. Maybe some locations from movies, or just overall new arenas that have their own rules to keep in mind. Very limited movesets for other kaiju. The Godzilla's are the only ones that have an expandable range of attacks and abilities. All others have a set of about three or four moves at most, which makes fights with them kinda repetitive and unfair when fighting Godzilla, whether the other monsters are controlled by a player or cpu. No customizable matches. There is only three modes of playing the game: Master Of Destruction, King Of Kaiju and Multiplayer. There should be a mode where next to your own monster, you can also pick your opponent(s), map and maybe set teams to fight with, with a max of four monsters (1v1, 2v2, 2v1, 3v1, free-for-all). Flawed Multiplayer. While the three Monster structure is interesting, where you have to choose who to take on first, it's pretty broken in execution. The third opponent can just wait the first two out until one of them falls, and the other badly wounded one finds himself facing another enemy at peak health. Four monsters would have been more balanced, where the winners of the first two duels have to settle it with a much more intense battle at less health, kinda like what For Honor did. No difficulty setting. If you feel over- or underwhelmed with the challenges, there's nothing you can do about it, making every run with the same monsters the same experience. If I were to direct a Godzilla game, I would make sure to include: 1. A wider collection of *maps* ( *Tokyo,* *Osaka,* *New York,* *San* *Francisco,* *Las* *Vegas,* *Los* *Angeles,* *Sydney,* *Paris,* *London,* *Dubai,* *Arctic,* *Monster* *Island,* *Volcano* *Crater,* *Planet X* ) 2. *Fully* *customizable* *battles* (opponent, arena, difficulty, amount of players, building of teams, military activity) 3. A *story* 4. A *survival* mode 5. A progressively more aggressive *military.* One that becomes more and more dangerous the longer you fight it, sort of becoming an additional opponent on the battlefield, only sparing Jet Jaguar, Mechagodzilla 2, Moguera and Mechagodzilla 3. (And maybe if a high enough military activity is reached, there's less than four monsters fighting, and at least one of these four robots isn't used by a player, they could send one of them in as a CPU-opponent.) 6. More *abilities* for the other monsters And 7. the *biggest* *Monster* *roster* in a Godzilla game yet, divided into *character* *packs* you can purchase by progressing in the game, and some even with different unlockable *Skins* /versions with unique abilities, (like the variants in Mortal Kombat X) including: *Character Pack I:* (* = available in demo version/first avilable monster in full version) *Godzilla* ('54*, '62, '64, '74, '84, '94, '99, '01, '02, '04, '14, '16, '19) ('94 starts in regular form, can change into *'95,* increasing damage but slowly chipping away health '016 starts in *2nd form,* can change into *3rd form* which can change into *final form,* each time exchanging speed for more durability and damage '19 has the same power-up as '94) *Anguirus* ('55*, '74, '04) *King Kong* ('62*, '20) *Mothra* ('61*, '64, '92, '01, '04, '19) (Starts in *larva form,* can change into *adult form* ) --------------------------- *Character Pack II:* *Rodan* ('56, '64, '93, '04, '19) ('93 starts in regular form, can change into *Fire Rodan* ) *King Ghidorah* ('64, '91, '01, '19) ('91 starts in regular form, can change into *Mecha-King Ghidorah,* exchanging speed for durability and damage) *Ebirah* *Kamacuras* ('68, '04) ---------------------------- *Character Pack III:* *Kumonga* ('68, '04) *Baragon* ('68, '01) *Varan* *Manda* ('68, '04) ------------------ *Character Pack IV:* *Gorosaurus* *Gabara* (just for the hell of it) *Hedorah* ('71, '04) (In large *land form* when on ground, flies in *flying form* ) *Gigan* ('72, '04) ('04 can exchange his *metal hooks* for the *dual chainsaws,* trading speed for damage) --------------------------- *Character Pack V:* *Megalon* *Jet Jaguar* (Can change between three sizes: *regular,* *small* where he's faster but less durable and does less damage and *large* where he's slower but more durable and does more damage) *Mechagodzilla* ('74) (Starts disguised as *fake '74 Godzilla,* only has fake atomic breath for ranged attack, can transform into *true form,* exchanging durability for all weapons, increased damage and flight) *King Caesar* ('74, '04) ---------------------------- *Character* Pack VI:* *Titanosaurus* *Biollante* (Starts in *rose form,* can change into *final form* ) *Battra* (Starts in *larva form,* can change into *adult form* ) *Mechagodzilla* ('93) (Starts in regular form, can transform into *Super Mechagodzilla,* decreasing speed on land, increasing flying speed and damage) ----------------------------- *Character Pack VII:* *Moguera* (Can split into *underground tank* and *plane* as special attack, player can switch control between the two) *Spacegodzilla* (In regular form when on ground, flies in *flying form* ) *Destoroyah* (Starts in *aggregate form,* flies in *flying form,* can *split into group of smaller aggregates* for special attack, can change into *final form* ) *Zilla* ------------------------------ *Character Pack VIII:* *Orga* (Starts in *Millenian form,* flies in *UFO form,* can change into *final form* ) *Megaguirus* *Mechagodzilla* ('02) (Can go into red-eyed *rampage mode,* gaining more speed and damage) *Monster X* (Starts in regular form, can change into *Keizer Ghidorah,* exchanging speed for durability and damage)
MrWhatdafuBOOM YES I want to play as the cool looking Zilla! I don’t understand why Toho refuses to acknowledge it even AFTER they rebranded him making it clear he’s just another original kaiju separate from Godzilla.
@@dereknight861 See, that's the thing, that's why people hated this movie so passionately, it's a cool creature, but it's not Godzilla. Had it been named anything else, it would've passed as just an ok 90's monster movie. As James Rolfe put it best, "They were interested in the name and not the actual character". It could've also worked as a remake of 'The Beast From 20.000 Fathoms', since it's one of the originators of the genre, deserves to have a remake made and won't be as restricted since it's not as well known as Godzilla anymore. As a seperate entity, Zilla works far better.
Finally, someone who will appreciate Zilla. He’d be a great change in a Godzilla game, he’d be the fastest monster with the least health. He could have abilities like his super roar, that explodes anything and everything it comes into contact with(Yes, even monsters), and a pounce ability that could launch him incredible distances. He’d be a great fit!
@@alexchesbro Yeah, Zilla works better when being its own entity instead of trying to be Godzilla. He'd be on the speedier end of the spectrum, along with adult Mothra and Battra, Rodan, Jet Jaguar, Moguera and Megaguirus.
Fred Duwe I prefer Melee slightly due to the combat being more balanced where in Save the Earth you can spam your Beam attack more and the blocking didnt work modt of the time
the graphics worsened in StE though.. Explain that one to me. It's like they copy and pasted everything from DaM, but somehow managed to make everything look shittier.. 😩
@Mr Mistah No it really doesn't. The textures in Save the Earth are very odd. The monsters seem to just be made up of a bunch of chunky 3D polygons and are very unpolished looking. Which makes no sense considering StE came out 2 years after DaM and the graphics were just recycled and given additional textures that made the models look worse. Just look at Godzilla 2000's face.. its so ugly and inaccurate in StE compared to DaM. Destoroyah is also lacking compared to the previous game. It's because they added more monsters with such a such a small budget and then didn't have the time or funds to just make the game look more polished/finished. It's also laughable that the game is exclusive to Xbox and PS2 so it SHOULD have nicer graphics than the previous game on those consoles but it don't!
@@renna4216 Eh, PS2 is actually weaker than the GameCube so it makes sense that some stuff were downgraded. I also imagine the increased scale and complexity of the cities (there’s now elevation, for example) also ate up some of the technical budget. Still, the game looks fine to me so really, I like Save the Earth simply for being GDAMM but more. More monsters, more arenas, more content, more everything.
Anyone who bags this game honestly hasn’t played it enough. The biggest peeve I’ve heard is that Godzilla is slow and doesn’t have enough moves.. he’s slow because he’s a big colossal bastard! And it’s more akin to an rpg where the character gets better the more experienced he becomes. I platinumed this on ps3 and not far off doing the same on the PS4 version. If you’re a G fan, this game is awesome. Just beat it a few times, level up & rinse and repeat. You’ll be kicking Kaiju ass in no time!
As a godzilla fan who couldn't buy this when it first came out I wish they'd remake it or make more copies I really wish I could play it but I just don't see paying $200-$500 for a single game no matter how cool it looks
Try to emulate it on RPCS3, though the PS3 version is severely lacking in content, and it's gonna take years until we get the game running on a PS4 emulator.
I switched the V.O. to Japanese. That made the game feel even more authentic. I love this game. It reminds me of the Rampage arcade game in the 80s / 90s. Also, your description, calling it 'Godzilla Simulator'...ON THE NOSE!!! ALso also...at least, compared to most AAA titles, Godzilla isn't swarming with microtransactions / DLC. It is a complete game!
I wouldn't even call this an action game, I always called it a movie simulator. This game was design for the fans of the movies, but got marketed to a general audience. So game reviewers obviously tore it apart based on it's worth as a game. Now, I adore this game's look and feel, but that platinum was painfully slow. 5 months of repetitive grinding. Also if the Daiorama Mode had not used square sets that ruined the backdrops, I'd spent days making photos of this game. In the end, this is hands-down the most authentic Godzilla game made, you just can't go in expecting God of War.
It's okay to hate this game, even being a big Godzilla game. Godzilla is my childhood, from having all the movies on VHS, to Christmas ornaments and toys to an awesome Godzilla onesie. I adore Godzilla, but I absolutely hate this game. If we are talking about Godzilla games, Godzilla Save The Earth is probably the best Godzilla game.
Jose Tomas Campos Robledano Unleashed was fun but the character models were cringeworthy, the running animations were poorly done, and the lack of original theme songs ruin the experience.
I say take the visuals, monsters, music, and sound of this game and combine it with a remasterd combat of godzilla save the earth, unleashed, destroy all monsters melee you have a great godzilla game.
A small pet peeve of mine for the Atari Godzilla games is that the energy weapons sounds weren't movie accurate, that is why I played this game. Yes, your concept sounds like a masterpiece for G-fans.😁
It's a better Godzilla Generations for me. Love it to death, but agree Destroy All Monsters Melee and Save the Earth are my favorites. Spent alot of Friday/Saturdays playing with friends.
0:18-0:22 I just realized there's a shot in KOTM that looks just like that. It's when the _Argo_ swerves away from Ghidorah before he slams into Rodan.

@@szymps A more accurate pizza comparison would be; if you are really a pizza lover, you will overlook the lack of cheese, and the terrible tasting sauce on it.
THANK YOU! I'm so glad that you appreciate the game's intention for what it was trying to do. Of course it's not super fast and unrealistically punchy-combo-y like the other ones were, but if you're a movie godzilla fan then this fits perfectly with how they move and attack.
*read description* I know right, doesn't anyone want to feel like their the King of the Monsters, terrorizing the city like you're watching a Godzilla movie during the Heisei Period!
My favorite Godzilla game followed by Suoer Godzilla. I don’t understand the popular game reviewer who like Godzilla film bashing this game when they’ve seen Godzilla flicks when they were growing up. Complaining because this game doesn’t have block?! When did we see any Kaiju block other kaijus attack in the movie? I know this game ain’t perfect but you said it perfectly that this game is the best Godzilla game to get kaijufix when we crave some quick city destruction.
This review was pretty spot on! as a Game on it's on 2 legs, it's slow, repetitive, boring and so on and so forth, but as a Godzilla experience, well it's great. the models of the Kaiju look fantastic, the roster is great as well. you could say that this game makes you feel like Godzilla. what this game truly needed was a mode that went through every Godzilla movie's best moment and recreate them on the game! this mode would be called: '60 Years of Destruction!' it would be pretty awesome and would probably save this game from the negative backlash it got. (Hopefully the next Godzilla game does that whenever that's coming out.) but as it is, it's not bad. definitely not worth the title as the worst PS4 game.
4:35 the tokusatsu aesthetic and arcade vibe is what inspired me to make my gameplay for my third game to be similar to Godzilla Vs. Except the player can fly.
It’s not that this game was horrible. It’s just that it was overpriced and 3 much better games had existed before it and it had failed to live up to them.
Just re-installed this baby. After all the Kong/Godzilla hype, I’m Feening for anything Godzilla. I always loved this game, was it as good as the ps2/GameCube Godzilla fighting games? Ehh, I can’t really compare this style of game to the older ones. This one just feels like I’m playing a actual movie. The speed of the monsters, the sounds, the areas... it feels so true to the films. Now could it be better? Ofc. This is far from a perfect game. But as a Godzilla fan, I really LOVE this game lol. I’m glad to see the Godzilla franchise is growing bigger and better by the year
You definitely sold me on it. I was questioning it and was going to get it anyway. You definitely made it so I was excited again!! Thank you for that man.
8:30 I actually own the Japan only PS3 version of the game that actually lets you import your own music into the game via PS3's generous media import options. So I just replaced everyone's themes and even all of the stage music with their appropriate Ifukube, Oshima, and even Masaru Sato tracks.
Glad you made this review, communicated much of my thoughts well from when I played it. Phenomenally accurate depiction of being a Kaiju destroying a city and having a monster movie fight, not to mention a glorious roster, but it by no means should have been full price.
Its great for die hard fans....if the action was more balanced and it had more city options and less of a grind game play mechanic. It would be a masterpiece. Still good. But could have been better
The controls and the mechanics killed off the game, rn I'm selling my Wii and everything that goes with it for the PS4 to get severity breach and the Godzilla game
I love it, just wish they brought back original themes, and more monsters like Orga, or the original Gigan, or maybe they can update it now for KOTM monsters
Now if only they made a Godzilla fighting game like Save The Earth or Unleashed but with the PS4 Godzilla stuff like sparks when buildings are destroyed or the appropriate music from the movies... And also other Kaiju as DLC like Varan The Unbelievable, Gamera, Ultraman, Godzilla Earth or even the mechas from Super Sentai
I got this on day 1 after trading in both Sonic Boom Shattered Crystal and Rise of Lyric, those two practically paying for my game. The game does have issues, for sure, but it's still just plain and simple fun for a few hours at a time. A dedicated lock on for flying enemies like the Gotengo would have helped tremendously.
I think I'm gonna buy this game. Like, ASAP. I love Gozilla and I've managed to play a few of the games. Maybe it's because I watched Godzilla: King of the Monsters recently, but I really want this
I spent more time on this game that I would like to admit. It was fun for a while but I kept playing it to get the Platinum trophy. The last trophy was a chore and I felt like it was a second job grinding up all the xp. For what it is worth it is a beautiful looking game with a great roster, great sound does have a Godzilla feel to it. The best part is the encyclopedia of monsters, which helped me learn alot about the lore.
Great video bro and I really like the Godzilla PS4 game. I’m really a Godzilla fan and I love every movie of him except the fort American Godzilla film but man I was edge of my seat when watching Godzilla king of the monsters!
I played it originally when it came out (it was a gift so I can't knock it for price), but I've been on a huge Godzilla binge recently so I'm popping in it back in to play with the feeling in mind.
Other then the repetition one main complaint against this game is is that the movement was slow like controlling a guy in a rubber suit. I wanted to sit these people down and say "That's the fucking point."
Cool video I use to have Godzilla Save the Earth on PS2 and Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee on GameCube and This game for PS4, I also seen The Shin Godzilla movie for the first time last year.
Well, you definitely sold me my dude. When I heard the reviews I was understandably disappointed, but I think you make a solid point. It really looks like it was made by fans, for fans. Fans of Godzilla would probably love this game since it looks like it has all the hallmarks of the movies, just in a game. (Also, wow a playable biollante??? Never thought I'd see the day!) It only really makes sense that your average critic didn't care for it if they weren't really fans of the source material. Having just watched the new King of the Monsters flick, I'm hungry for some Godzilla games. This one definitely looks like something I'd enjoy now, having been a fan since I was a kid. So yeah, I'm gonna keep an eye out for this one if I ever see a copy. Thanks dude. 😀👍
I really want to buy this game as a long time Godzilla fan. I really appreciate your and how it points out all the positives of the game, thank you. The selection of kaiju available to play as looks amazing, although they leave out the Millennium era Godzilla which is one of my favorites and is kind of a bummer, but like I said I really want to buy this game. Angry Joe just ripped it a new one that I didn't think it was worth it.
I’ve never played this myself, but I like how they have monsters not featured in other Godzilla games like Hedorah, the first Mechagodzilla, and Biolante From what I can remember neither of the two were included in other G games I’ve played
the trick to this game ( most people don't know ) is the FURY ! If you keep the FURY meter going on each map that is what makes you bigger and stronger . Some players have got the Monsters over 130 meters ! The Angry J sellout didn't realy play it , just used it for ratings .
Honestly the thing this game needed for replayability was simply making the multiplayer possible for players in the same room. Being able to play Godzilla with your friends is far more enjoyable when they're right next to you. Plus I think DAMM, Save the Earth, and Unleashed all had a solid multiplayer system with increasing control on match set-up. It was the main reason adults and kids alike could appreciate playing round after round of monsters brawling in a city. It almost doesn't get old!
The whole reason for this game’s reception is because of the marketing. The American version made itself look like a fighting game, enhanced by the admittedly cool but misleading illustrated cover and the title of ‘Godzilla VS’. However the UK version is just simply called ‘Godzilla’ and has a pretty basic presentation. Simply put, the American marketing was the reason this game flopped and it was beyond misleading. That being said, this is by far my second favourite Godzilla game, second only to ‘Godzilla: Save the Earth’ on the PS2. It’s a fun little love letter to Godzilla as a franchise.
The game is just called Godzilla here as well... The game flopped because it’s a bad game. It’s finishing blow cane from Angry Joe after his review spread around the internet. The game loses its fun factor after the honeymoon phase, it just becomes a chore. The fighting is uncreative and horribly balanced. Now it lies dead at the bottom of the ocean where it should be
Papa Pred I respect your opinion but I disagree. I still spend my time playing this game sometimes and in a way I find ways to enjoy it in short bursts. Personally I thought Angry Joe’s review was unfair, almost as if he didn’t realise this was budget restrained video game made in Japan for nothing rather than a triple A game with a huge budget behind it. To me this game felt more like an innocent little passion project and I respect what they were trying to do, which was be an interactive Godzilla movie with similar story and structure beats.
DenotheFreak As you say, I respectfully disagree. Joe’s video was fair. If a game is gonna be criticized then it should be criticized not spared. There’s plenty of developers than have done way more with way less at their disposal. Granted you may have fun “in short bursts” but, that’s never really good. Like I said before, they shouldn’t need a triple a budget. Plenty of indie devs have pushed bigger games with less people and funds. The game tarnished any future Godzilla games. In my opinion if they want to try again, they should look toward an American developer or a different team. The fact that we couldn’t even utilize the full cities and just small sections is bad. We’ve got games that push our consoles so hard and perform great but, this game struggles even with its early ps3 level design
I remember really liking the game as a new Godzilla in 2014 as I was after watching the 2014 Godzilla movie it really showed me the different eras of Godzilla and the others monsters like Mothra, Rodan Angirus, King Ghidorah etc.
I actually prefer Godzilla Battle Legends/Kaiju Daikessen to the pipeworks games. Mind, I also think King of the Monsters, War of the monsters, and other general "kaiju" games are among the best in the genre.
thank you for this retrospective I had a blast with this game the monsters the sound effects (foot stomps of classic mecha Godzilla) or being able to rip Mecha Godzilla 2s head off as a Godzilla game it is great
bought this brand new for £17, I Love it, ironically over the past few years it seems to have become quite collectable in the uk at least and now sells for around £35 used
Alright. Let's get something straight here Saying that something emulates an experience from a movie can be both a good thing and a bad thing. Take the Karate Kid on NES, a very blah game that's trying to be Kung Fu except a sidescroller. It does however represent the movies well in terms of how much abuse Daniel takes, be it Cobra Kai or the deviants in Miyagi's homeland. I doubt that part was intentional, at least not as intentional as this game may have been, but the point stands that you can emulate the feel of a movie and it be a negative quality. In the case of a good example, look at how Goldeneye 007 was handled. It hit all of the major landmarks, recreated many famous sets, and handled the story with liberties by adding extra stages not involved with the main plot, or being a throwback to classic Bond films. All of that was complimented with an exiting multiplayer experience console players had never seen before and it elevated a movie tie-in game to become arguably the most influential FPS of all time with the likes of Wolfenstein 3D, Quake, Halo, and Call of Duty 4. A perfect simulation of a Bond film? Absolutely not, but it references the movie when necessary without falling into the trap so many movie tie in games today face, apathetic creativity. If you really want to simulate a movie, at the expense of it being a good game. Make a damn movie then. Even Kojima knows that he needs to supply good gameplay despite aspiring to be a movie director and unintentionally revolutionized the stealth genre. Godzilla on PS4 deserves every ounce of the vitriol that it gets. It forgot what its job was as a video game, it was put out for 60 dollars, and thanks to their screw up the game only sold 200K copies (30K in Japan no less, it's place of origin, stunning really), a fifth of Melee's sales, a fourth of Save the Earth's sales, and matching the sales of Unleashed (a late PS2 and Wii Title). If you insist I not hate the quality of its recreation of a Godzilla experience, then I'll throw my scorn at the fact of us not getting a decent Godzilla game again any time soon (not even as a game to import, 30K sales in Japan should be a crime against humanity).
100% agree! The devs should be smart enough to tell the difference between a movie, a passive medium and a video game, an interactive medium. Another bad example is The Order: 1886, the forgotten PS4 exclusive. It has so much potential but the game focuses way too much on "cinematic experience" it flops and panned. Unlike Uncharted series where those have the right balance.
I got the game a few years ago as a present from my parents on Easter. I had been wanting it for a while, unaware of the production of the game coming to a screeching halt, and increasing the price. My parents had found it at GameStop for about 30 dollars, and I was extremely happy with what I got. I lost interest in it after a while, but recently I started playing again. I’m close to 100%ing the non-multiplayer features (I don’t have PS+ or PSN), but it’s fun to revisit and play for a couple minutes to a couple hours. Seeing the game rise above 200USD hurts me to know that many won’t be able to try the game for a reasonable price, but also makes me feel all the more luckier and thankful that my parents got it for cheap.
FYI, this game is no longer in print, so you probably won't be able to get a cheap copy :(
Could import it from Japan
That's sad because if a new G fan wants to play it they probably won't have the opportunity to now. :(
I own it so I’m good
Godzilla unleashed was fun and really cool in my opinion
There's no reason for the game controls to have been this shity
Godzilla is approaching the generator! The generator is losing power!
Angry Joe is that you?

I liked the roster. Whether the game itself was good or bad, you could tell that it was made by a godzilla fan.
The only big downside was that Godzilla and a handful of other monsters had an actually half decent moveset. I dare you to try getting to the final stage with Showa Mechagodzilla. Some of the monsters are just so clunky and unwieldy that they're virtually unplayable in the main "campaign".
Given other aspects of the game "*a* godzilla fan" seems to be appropriate phrasing.
Too bad you can't find this game anymore in disc format without dropping 60+ dollars.
Yeah, by *a* fan and bunch of lazy game developers that were cutting all the corners to get their paychecks asap
@Godzilla Son That's not what I mean. What I mean is that you compare Showa Mechagodzilla's pool of abilities and combos to Destoroyah and you'll notice a large discrepancy.
Anyone else play Godzilla Save The Earth? Absolutely loved that game.
Play that every year on my ps2. One of the very first ps2 games I ever played in my entire life and is a very big part of my childhood.
Played destroy all monsters melee, save the earth, unleashed and this one. The previous 3 were fun to play with friends and had good replayability but despite the issues in this I do like the slower combat and the more original feel.
Those games are some of my favorites of all time. So much fun.

Thank you for being one of the few who actually understand that this is NOT a fighting game. I have gotten tired of having that argument with so many people.
the online mode is definitely combat based, god of destruction is not.

*Pros:*
The models.
*Cons:*
No real block ability.
If I were to direct a Godzilla game, I would make sure to include:
1. A wider collection of *maps* ( *Tokyo,* *Osaka,* *New York,* *San* *Francisco,* *Las* *Vegas,* *Los* *Angeles,* *Sydney,* *Paris,* *London,* *Dubai,* *Arctic,* *Monster* *Island,* *Volcano* *Crater,* *Planet X* )
2. *Fully* *customizable* *battles* (opponent, arena, difficulty, amount of players, building of teams, military activity)
3. A *story*
4. A *survival* mode
5. A progressively more aggressive *military.* One that becomes more and more dangerous the longer you fight it, sort of becoming an additional opponent on the battlefield, only sparing Jet Jaguar, Mechagodzilla 2, Moguera and Mechagodzilla 3. (And maybe if a high enough military activity is reached, there's less than four monsters fighting, and at least one of these four robots isn't used by a player, they could send one of them in as a CPU-opponent.)
6. More *abilities* for the other monsters
And 7. the *biggest* *Monster* *roster* in a Godzilla game yet, divided into *character* *packs* you can purchase by progressing in the game, and some even with different unlockable *Skins* /versions with unique abilities, (like the variants in Mortal Kombat X) including:

Would you change the destruction or add onto what’s currently here?
For me nothing will ever beat Godzilla Save the Earth
Same. I played that game so much as a kid, and I still go back to play it from time to time.
I have tons of hours in the game and I bloody love it,I always go to play it if I'm bored
This was the Godzilla game I always wanted to see. The closest thing in the past was Unleashed's story mode.
Man I played this game more than just about any other recent game and have been itching to play it some more.

Jose Tomas Campos Robledano Unleashed was fun but the character models were cringeworthy, the running animations were poorly done, and the lack of original theme songs ruin the experience.

5:38 Did Godzilla just do the.... *DANCE* ?!
Im glad i was able to get this game for 9 bucks, definitely a lot of fun at that price
5:38 Is that Godzilla's victory dance from Invasion of Astro Monster?
I liked this game because it seemed a little more realistic than just the other animation type games.
4:35 the tokusatsu aesthetic and arcade vibe is what inspired me to make my gameplay for my third game to be similar to Godzilla Vs. Except the player can fly.

Godzilla Unleashed was a buggy rushjob. Save the Earth was the peak of the brawlers.
DokturProfesur I agree save the earth was the best one, it started all for me.
Melee was the best, unleashed was super unbalanced especially with destoroyah he was so op.

I played it originally when it came out (it was a gift so I can't knock it for price), but I've been on a huge Godzilla binge recently so I'm popping in it back in to play with the feeling in mind.
We need a dlc that includes three new monsters. Maybe like Orga, Muto, and possibly Moguera.
Other then the repetition one main complaint against this game is is that the movement was slow like controlling a guy in a rubber suit. I wanted to sit these people down and say "That's the fucking point."
Had to order this game from the GameStop warehouse for $45 (yes that was the cheapest I could find it) and honestly the game is fun af
i had it but sold it a few years ago like an idiot so i went to go buy it again and it was 140 dollars
Cool video I use to have Godzilla Save the Earth on PS2 and Godzilla Destroy All Monsters Melee on GameCube and This game for PS4, I also seen The Shin Godzilla movie for the first time last year.
Honestly, if this game had more traditional controls in regards to movement and a block button, it'd be pretty great.
Smart gamers:This is a fun Simulation....
Confused gamers:This fighting game sucks!!!
The only problems I have with the game are the clipping and godzilla's atomic breath range
I’ve never played this myself, but I like how they have monsters not featured in other Godzilla games like Hedorah, the first Mechagodzilla, and Biolante From what I can remember neither of the two were included in other G games I’ve played
Except Hedora, i think mechagodzilla 1 and biolante were in Unleashed.
the trick to this game ( most people don't know ) is the FURY !
Godzilla PS3/PS4: Kaiju Simulator
Godzilla Atari Trilogy: VS game featuring Godzilla and co.
this, they made you feel like a actual kaiju and the size/speed of one rather then the speed of a wwe wrestler
lol “now that enough time has past you can get it for 25$” good luck finding it for 125$
The whole reason for this game’s reception is because of the marketing.
Papa Pred I guess that’s fair. I to was disappointed that you’re only given a tiny little section of a city to destroy rather than an entire ward.
Mind, I also think King of the Monsters, War of the monsters, and other general "kaiju" games are among the best in the genre.
thank you for this retrospective I had a blast with this game the monsters the sound effects (foot stomps of classic mecha Godzilla) or being able to rip Mecha Godzilla 2s head off as a Godzilla game it is great
“A Kaiju is approaching, T minus 60 seconds”
Godzilla: ah sh*t here we go again
Im glad i own deastroy all monster in gamecube. That is a a good godzilla game. We need one like that but with every single kaiju ever
"Find a cheap copy" yeah not like I haven't been looking every copy available goes for almost 100 bucks
Lowest I see is $280
@@alecgarcia963 and im keeping my copy in my shelf no sale
Damn I’m Canadian and it’s like 600 dollars on amazon
bought this brand new for £17, I Love it, ironically over the past few years it seems to have become quite collectable in the uk at least and now sells for around £35 used
Alright. Let's get something straight here
Saying that something emulates an experience from a movie can be both a good thing and a bad thing.
Am i supposed to read all of this?
Good to know there's someone out there with common sense on game design.
