Cal's fighting styles improving actually makes loads of sense. In Fallen Order, Cal was just getting back into fighting. He had spent so many years hiding and letting his training dull. In Jedi Survivor, Cal has been fighting for years. He's had the time to hone his skills.
Cal is literally one of the most powerful Jedis we've ever seen on screen in survivor. High level Jedi master. Council member tier character. Just below Yoda and windu and the like. And can use the darkside in bursts and come out of it.
@@PoutingScouthis is it exactly. They don’t kill themselves for the same reason they can block blaster bolts. They’re psychic super warriors. Their most basic power boils down to essentially “knows where to put their weapon at all times”
EA Developers have watched the previous video from Matt about Jedi:Fallen Order lol. They literally introduced and changed everything he was criticizing in the first video. Removed the dodge roll to smaller evading steps, way more thrusting, adjusting the Two Single Blades fighting style (using one after one not both at the same time, especially using one defensively to block incoming shots and the one for close ranged attacks), using the hilt to attack your opponent, not being in a typical lightsaber lock (with the Raiders for example) but push the saber to the side and trying to get around the opponent, introducing the blaster as an addition. Feels like they did everything Matt wanted them to do lol
Honestly wish they would've shown some of the second Dagan Gera fight. The way he uses a lightsaber telekinetically in that fight is awesome, & the kind of unique sword fighting only a force-sensitive could do

This video was already amazing to watch and then he even recognized that there are in-universe lightsaber stances! Love it! Would definitely like more videos from him.
while not in this game, in lore (or... in legends at least, idk if its still canon or not) there were what was called "lightsaber pikes". which is precisely what it sounds like. basically a polearm with a haft made of phrik alloy (a lightsaber resistant material), and a shoto saber imbedded into the end. you could 100% use the thing like a traditional spear, quarter staff, or other style despending on what you attached to it.
So blasters don't actually have unlimited ammo. The amount of shots it has are based on the individual blaster but most range between a lifetime fire count of like 150 to 300.
Interestingly the being aggressive and forcing the opponent into the defensive kinda works in the game. If they've got block hitting them (and damaging their stamina) forces as block animation on many opponents, provided they aren't mid attack animation.
The real problem with the crossguard stance is that the movements in general are too heavy. The blade of a lightsaber has no weight, the weight is all in the hilt. Crossguard stance should be no heavier than any other stance.
How much power difference do you think the lack of weight in a lightsaber would make when striking and blocking? Surely it would make a difference considering the blade is made of plasma. If you are trying to block a heavier, more traditional weapon w a lightsaber wouldn't the weight of the weapon your blocking plow through your defensive leverage? Strikes would have considerably less power behind them. That's assuming that anyone would make it through lightsaber training without maiming, or killing themselves on accident
Fun fact, the crossguard part of the lightsaber (in this game and in the movies) is there to vent excess energy, from essentially overclocking the lightsaber. Rather than being designed or used to really block anything.
Indeed, if you imagine it more as a beam of light or plasma that just happens to cut anything it comes into contact with - it seems a bit silly to go into this "heavy longsword" stance and make heavy swings, when quick cuts and slashes would be just as devastating.
The double bladed stance is based on samurai. The dagger (cant remember the name) and tbe katana paring were common. One of the blades is shorter than the other
Tanto? That being said, Sword and dagger was also very much a thing in Europe. Especially in dueling settings. That's one of the most interesting aspects of the history of fencing the world over: regardless of the weapons (which are mostly similar regardless of where you are on the globe), we have have the same mechanics when it comes to another piece of the puzzle: our bodies. What works works, what doesn't gets discarded. There's no 200 ways about wielding a piece of steel with sensibly the same function as another. There's a lot in common between most martial arts independently from one another. Edit: this made me think of an interesting tidbit regarding SW in particular: how did alien bodies and the way they function influence their martial arts? We develloped our martial arts knowing our limitations and function, but also that of the opponents, similar to our own. Fighting an individual with entirely different articulations, number and or size of limbs, height... would very much ask for new ways to fight.

Lightsaber to me should always be fought like a rapier. It looks light and nimble.
It might have a somewhat similar weight and balance. I'm almost certain that a Lightsaber blade weights near to nothing.
Eh, probably more like a smallsword or a spadroon. Rapiers weren't actually light, it was later swords that cut down on the weight a lot.
Mentioned this in another comment but, pretty sure lightsabers get their "weight" from force energy based on the intention of the wielder.

Lightsabers have a weight to them in Star Wars lore.
Closer to an expert than you probably are though
It's actually that weight of a blade that allows for the momentom of the flurrying and swinging. so there has to be some kind of weight to the blade
IIRC there is a slight gyroscopic effect on the blade field that keeps it from handling like a weightless beam coming out of a short handle.
