Lat time i saw this show was in the 1980s sometime on my mums rented Phillips TV, i also remember having a UNCLE toy car with man out the side, great cars, lovely theme, always a pleasure.
for a kid in the 60's (like yours truly) Vaughn was THE coolest, hippest spy that ever was on TV (mind you, Culp and Coz were also great on "I Spy" but Vaughn & McCallum were my faves (along with Maxwell Smart lol..just kidding) in all serious, gives me a major warm feeling inside to see these dear old friends again--almost gets me choked up--you have to have been ALIVE in the 60's to know what I mean. Great days, like NO other. Thx tons for whoever posted this--u freakin' rule Kevin in NY
This show premiered when I was in 2nd grade & the teenaged boy who lived next door, Mark, was absolutely obsessed with this show. I never saw it, as I had to be in bed by 8 p.m. but whenever someone mentions The Man From U.N.C.L.E., I think of Mark Reibling! This was America's answer to James Bond.
Of course you can watch some of these here in full. I got to see them when they first aired. But some of them are really great to watch even today. this was a quality show.
@Isotec1 I still enjoy watching The Man From U.N.C.L.E. Now that was a show that had real actors and real scripts, lots of action and none of the B.S. that you get from watching 'reality' TV, which truly sucks!! That's great to know that Ian Fleming (creator of James Bond) was a fan and that he wrote some episodes and was also a consultant. Thanks for the info because I didn't know that. And sometimes I find myself humming the theme music (lol).
So cool! Thanks for sharing this..... Robert Vaughan has recently presented his own story on BBC Radio 4 of his early days behind the Iron Curtain (he wasn't a spy but some believed he might be) - good stuff - pick it up on BBC iPlayer before it goes away!
Great sow,my favorite in the 60s along with Star Trek. My dad introduced me to Vaughn, doing promo for Ideal Toys, while I was in 5th grade got his autograph, and none of the kids believed it was real.
I was a big fan of The Man from UNCLE in grade school. I wrote to NBC and received a Robert Vaughn photo and an official Man From UNCLE ID card. Made my entire year. I read all the paperback books @.50 cents each and even read the month Man From UNCLE magazine. And don't forget the card game, board game and lunch box!
This is my favorite of the opening theme song versions. Everyone probably loves the original, but this is the first one that I heard when I rewatched the reruns on CBN in the late '80's.
One my fav TV themes-by the legendary Jerry Goldsmith-also the writer of the “Star Trek-The Next Generation” theme-first introduced in “Star Trek-The Motion Picture” back in 1979! Musical Genius!!!
Robert Vaughan was close friends with Bobby Kennedy and campaigned for him during his Presidential campaign. At one point, RFK suggested Vaughan run for the open US Senate seat from California. And promised the full support of the Kennedy family if he did. Vaughan thought about it, but Bobby died before he could give him an answer
I was a big fan of the show growing up in the 1960's.I begged my parents for the Man from U.N.C.L.E. gun for Christmas one year. Besides the pistol, it included all of the attachments you saw on the series plus the triangular shaped ID badge. I have many happy memories playing with it, pretending to be an agent. Anyone else remember the toy?
@imtheduke I presume you're talking about Leo Carroll - a fair point. Some younger viewers may assume they're all dead but Robert Vaughn is currently in 2 shows in the UK (Hustle & Coronation St.) & David McCallum is on NCIS - so they haven't even retired yet!
Terrific theme! I liked the first opening credits (in black & white) best, though -- where a gunman takes shots at Napoleon Solo, only he's behind bullet-proof glass! One of the best shows of the Sixties.
The theme for the second season (posted here "The Minus X Affair"), arranged by Lalo Schifrin, is the coolest of the four or five versions throughout the four season run of MFU. Thanks for posting!
One of the gadgets that they had was a hand-held radio shaped like a pen that they communicate with anywhere in the world. I remember some pretentious radio magazine saying that such things were childish and never going to happen. If only they knew!
@trdidion Yes. You are correct. Robert Vaughn did star in Bullitt. He portrayed Walter Chalmers, a self-serving politician who attempts to make friends with Frank Bullitt. When the main Mob witness dies during a Mob probe, Chalmers tries to have Lt. Bullitt fired. This Chalmers character ruined Vaughn's chance to enter politics.
Robert Vaughan is the star of a BBC tv series in the UK, called "Hustle". He plays the leader of a gang of conmen who pull various stunts and rip-offs!
Yeah, he was a good character actor. I just read, on wikipedia, that he was a war hero aboard a US sub in WWII. He lived a good life, that was cut short. Thankfully, we still have his appearances.
Yeah you bet we did not need video games just an imagination ha ha . One Xmas me parents boght me the Man from Uncle case with silenced pistol and hand grenades i loved it Cheers
Yes,11. On EBay I found the instructions complete with diagram which detailed the set-up of the toy.I remember reading it for the first time. What a thrill then and even now since it brought back so many fond memories. It was made by the Ideal toy company. I believe it was marketed as the Napoleon Solo gun, as 11 was his badge number. Ah yes, those were the days of fun and games.
OLD BRO AND THE ANCESTORS and little bother billy dewey used to spend a lot of time at hospital with sick parents in HILLSDALE MICHIGAN thank u nurses for putting up with SECERT AGENTS
When I was at primary school back in the 60's, we'd all play "Man From Uncle" and use our biro pens (Open Channel 'D') as communicators until the teachers would confiscate the pens! LOL. Happy days!
The best of the four arrangements of the themes by a LONG way, is this one, Season 2's. New one for each season, oddly. Jerry Goldsmith was furious at how Lalo Schifrin had messed with his tune for this sophomore year, though I am positive he was just jealous that Lalo had done a far better arrangement. Best spy theme tune of them all....for TV that is.
I love Vaughn's stories about Steve McQueen. Apparently, McQueen couldn't stand Yul Brynner while filming Magnificent 7. McQueen did everything in the book to annoy Brynner & mock him including showing Brynner how to shoot a pistol which made Yul look like a total idiot.
I had a "Man from Uncle" lunchbox back then ... wonder how much it'd be worth on eBay now? Love this music; the lack of theme song music today is quite telling.
Great stuff! We had it here in UK on the BBC (no ad breaks!) in dreary old black-and -white. I can't remember the spy kits, though. Maybe we didn't have them over here. UNCLE stands for United Network Command for Law and Enforcement. Who wrote the theme tune ?
When i was a boy i sent away for an UNCLE membership card the yellow ID card the agents used .. It said on the back of the card " That i could be called at any time for a mission " That was forty year ago im still waiting
I always thought this was the best version of the theme. And who did it? On the mega-soundtrack set, it's credited to Jerry Goldsmith (original composition) and Lalo Schifrin (arrangement). Figures. :) Play this immediately followed by the original M:I theme...
i know by todays standards its corny and even gay!! but back then we loved it especially 4 th grade boys.so lets enjoy the memories they re all we really have.
I remember two episodes of this show... One was in a discotheque where a secret tone on a record detonated a bomb. The other was when (character actor, the late) John McGiver played a weird villain called "Mr. Mozart". He tortured our heroes. He said "I'll release the bees!" VERY nasty bees, that could only be calmed by one food: Cumberly Honey...
just one of many great tv shows from the 60s,,so many its difficult to pick one over the other but this show must be in the top 3,
I watched this show while growing up.
I loved it.
Thanks.
George Vreeland Hill
Lat time i saw this show was in the 1980s sometime on my mums rented Phillips TV, i also remember having a UNCLE toy car with man out the side, great cars, lovely theme, always a pleasure.
The 1960's. Probably the best decade for television, in history.
I WAS ABSOLUTELY CRAZY ABOUT THIS SHOW AS A 13 YEAR OLD! STILL LOVE IT AS A 69 YEAR OLD.
NCIS fan also, and do remember that. It was really cool thing for some of the older viewers like me who remember UNCLE.
for a kid in the 60's (like yours truly) Vaughn was THE coolest, hippest spy that ever was on TV (mind you, Culp and Coz were also great on "I Spy" but Vaughn & McCallum were my faves (along with Maxwell Smart lol..just kidding) in all serious, gives me a major warm feeling inside to see these dear old friends again--almost gets me choked up--you have to have been ALIVE in the 60's to know what I mean. I lived and breathed the Man from U.N.C.L.E. throughout junior high school.

I used to watch this everyday after school in the late 90s! AWESOME!
@Isotec1 I still enjoy watching The Man From U.N.C.L.E. I loved this show when I was a kid.
Had all the plastic gadgets as a kid, always loved this show very cool at the time and the suits were sharp.
Loved the show, couldn't wait each week to wtch.
I was a big fan of The Man from UNCLE in grade school. I wrote to NBC and received a Robert Vaughn photo and an official Man From UNCLE ID card. Made my entire year.

loved this when i was a kid hard to believe
David McCallum was born in 1933 still looks
much the same ..
This is my favorite of the opening theme song versions.
Everyone probably loves the original, but this is the first one that I heard when I rewatched the reruns on CBN in the late '80's.
One of the most memorable theme songs.
I liked how David on NCIS told the others he once was in a boat, but he was referring to man from Uncle. haha.
Napoleon Solo is the coolest spy ever...and i love this show...the best show ever in history!!!!!!!
One my fav TV themes-by the legendary Jerry Goldsmith-also the writer of the “Star Trek-The Next Generation” theme-first introduced in “Star Trek-The Motion Picture” back in 1979! Musical Genius!!!
RIP David McCallum (1933 - 2023). Thank you for the entertainment.

And promised the full support of the Kennedy family if he did. Vaughan thought about it, but Bobby died before he could give him an answer
I watched reruns of this on YTV (in Canada), in my teen years at 1 am every night, around '96-'97. Great guest stars, fun show.
I was a big fan of the show growing up in the 1960's.I begged my parents for the Man from U.N.C.L.E. gun for Christmas one year. I was really happy to see David McCallum resurface as 'Ducky' on NCIS.
Robert Vaughn & David McCallum Also Appeared Together In Season 5 Of The A-Team, That Brought Back Memories Of Them In The Man From UNCLE
Love it. Among the coolest of 60s TV intros.
LMFAO... Watching this has made me want to whip out my fountain pen and call Mr Solo
The best MFU tune for me, that base line really rocks
Pity it got jazzed up during the next season, with that crazy saxophone.
It was America's answer to "The Avengers", as I remember it.
Robert Vaughn's smile at 0:14-0:17 is so adorable it just melts my heart :)
RIP David McCallum

If you watch antenna tv, Robert Vaughn is popping up on the more obscure stations in so many movies lately. Nothing wrong with that though!
Watched this all the time on our old black and white TV.
Cool show! COOL THEME!
One of the gadgets that they had was a hand-held radio shaped like a pen that they communicate with anywhere in the world. I remember some pretentious radio magazine saying that such things were childish and never going to happen. If only they knew!
They need to show this on TV more.
I haven't seen this opening in over 40 years. Brilliant.
So Great!
UNCLE was one of my favorite TV shows, especially the first two seasons. And dig those bongos in the opening!
Great series opening!
me muero muerto no lo puedo creer lo que encontre te felicito por subirlo
Vaya Mr. Solo!!
Robert Vaughan is the star of a BBC tv series in the UK, called "Hustle". He plays the leader of a gang of conmen who pull various stunts and rip-offs!
I love this theme. It kicks ass!!
Have you seen Vaughn's commercial on Comedy Central? Hilarious.
Napoleon Solo - was there ever a cooler name for a secret agent?
R.I.P. Solo!
Yeah, he was a good character actor. I just read, on wikipedia, that he was a war hero aboard a US sub in WWII. He lived a good life, that was cut short. Thankfully, we still have his appearances.
Another great theme song. They just don't seem to make (for TV) them this good anymore.
Yeah you bet we did not need video games just an imagination ha ha . One Xmas me parents boght me the Man from Uncle case with silenced pistol and hand grenades i loved it
Cheers
One of the greatest tv shows of all time! It should be made into a full length fim. Robert Vaughn could play Mr. Waverly.
i watched this when i was a young teenger and now i am going to be a grandma soon!
Schmaltzy drama show but I loved it to be.... Vaughn and McCallum were so cool.... wasnt there one episode where they encountered a giant?
Yeah, I knew it was something like that. I remember as a kid I thought it was incredibly clever and cool.
Thanks for validating my memory.
The 60's had some killer themes... WOW!
I had a man from uncle car, loved that thing!!
Yes,11. On EBay I found the instructions complete with diagram which detailed the set-up of the toy.I remember reading it for the first time. What a thrill then and even now since it brought back so many fond memories. i used to watch the repeats as a kid in the 80s

OLD BRO AND THE ANCESTORS and little bother billy dewey used to spend a lot of time at hospital with sick parents in HILLSDALE MICHIGAN thank u nurses for putting up with SECERT AGENTS
Dude, i'm only 21 and i still agree with you.
*remembers all of this TMNT toys*
it is probably worth a few $ for nostalgia. I had strept throat and dad brought it to cheer me up!
Loved this show...
Putin looks a lot like Illya Kuryakin especially when he's wearing the black roll-neck sweater.
Wow. Where does the mind store this 50 year old, crystal clear memory of that theme?
@bunchafives2008 Eve Arden also had a series in the late 1950's called Are miss Brooks in which she played miss Brooks a school teacher.
Excellent! There is a place for you, in our organization.
IMHO, this is the best rendition of the theme.
One of my fondest memories was getting a man from Uncle spy gun as a 6 yr. old!
One of the best TV theme tunes ever!
When I was at primary school back in the 60's, we'd all play "Man From Uncle" and use our biro pens (Open Channel 'D') as communicators until the teachers would confiscate the pens! LOL. Happy days!
Love the intros for TV back then
Loved this series as a kid....David Callum was my Hero and I still think he's great..
RIP Robert

This was a slick show ;)
And count me in...I wanna buy one of those lunchboxes too.. lol
Long before Napoleon became Hunt Stockwell and Illya Kuryakin became Ivan Trigorin.
it was part of growing up when i was a kid being a cowboy and i never wanted to shoot any one ,think its more deeper than a tv program

This was my fave version of the opening credits
I hadn't realized until recently that TMFU was replaced midseason in January 1968 by Laugh-In.
I remember two episodes of this show...
One was in a discotheque where a secret tone
on a record detonated a bomb.
The other was when (character actor, the late)
John McGiver played a weird villain called
