Walking The Beautiful Fashion District Mall || Why So Empty On A Weekend || Great Stores || Philly

This wonderful mall in Philadelphia Pennsylvania was just remodeled and "revamped" in 2019 and already looks empty on most days and may be on the chopping block like many other malls across America. There may be just 150 malls left in the US in 10 years, according to one industry watcher. There are currently around 700 malls in the US, down from 2,500 in the 1980s. Malls have suffered as online sales boomed.
Here I'll give you a brief walking tour of the property as I get a little bit of exercise and try to reach my daily goal of 10,000 steps. This is the old Gallery mall on Market Street with a striking glass-cube entryway, a skylight and an eight-screen movie theater. It has a host of new shops and restaurants, and a revamped ground level designed with a specific goal: to reverse the shopping center’s relationship with the street.
The old mall was designed to suck vitality from the streetscape. The $420 million mall remake was designed to do the exact opposite.
Funny side story... I had to record this video with my handheld cell phone because when I attempted to record the mall 4 months ago with my camera I was told by mall security that recording or "going live" in the mall was not allowed at the time. But as you see in the video, no one had issue with me doing it with my phone.
