    Crucial and Samsung are pretty much my only go to for SSD's. I'm just doing a bit of research for my upcoming Z890 build. Still waiting for more availability on CUDIMM modules for more variety as well.
    No point in rushing the build process and getting impatient, the GPU I want, the RTX 5090 is still a little ways off lol. (Late winter/early spring 2025?)

      The Solidigm D7-P5810 SSD beats Samsung & Crucial "Pro" drives in all real-world scenarios.
      That's because the Solidigm drive uses 1-bit SLC NAND.
      However, it's very expensive:
      800GB costs about $1000!
      The durability is insane: it will, practically, last for as long as you live, without slowing down!

      The Solidigm D7-P5810 U.2 NVMe drive beats all of those Crucial & Samsung "Pro" drives in all real-world scenarios!
      However, it's very expensive:
      800GB costs about $1000!
      But the responsiveness & endurance is insane!
      It will, last for as long as you live, without ever slowing down!
      That's because it uses SLC NAND.

      WD and Seagate also make great NVMe SSDs. I've had HDDs fail from them, and other brands too, but not a single SSD. If you are aiming for CUDIMM DDR, then make sure your chosen motherboard manufacturer states "future" CUDIMM support for DIMM slots. For example, MSI x870e Carbon Wifi has been confirmed by MSI that motherboard will support CUDIMM.

    Thanks this is the test i wanted to see. You should always use 2tb models for system drive as they are way faster. I also don't think that your airflow is optimal. I got 39 degrees max on benchmark with my 2tb 990 Pro. What concerns me though on Intel is that you do have to sacrifice x8 pcie lanes for your GPU when using Gen 5 m.2's.

    • @LANDONINAPC
      @LANDONINAPC  7 месяцев назад

      Yeah I realize the 2TB is faster but I wasn't going to pay 320 bucks for a 2TB drive for only 1000MB/S more. I also haven't seen anyone's drive run under 50 degrees, that's interesting

      Seems to be worthwhile to upgrade the thermal pad on some of these, and utilize a heatsink with more thermal mass to absorb and dissipate heat away. I've seen other tests using some of the built in heatsinks on higher end motherboards only hitting 40-50°C. Those utilizing a quality performance thermal pad on both sides of the drive, and a beefy thick heat sink/spreader.
      I've heard some of these Gen 5 M.2's are also supposed to be getting an upgraded Phison controller with better firmware to reduce temperature as well. I'll certainly be keeping an ear out for updates.

      Perhaps a peltier thermoelectric cooler placed on top of the M.2 heat sync. Would work. I use several homemade units for astrophotography cameras where the sensor must be kept cold. All parts can be purchased from Amazon. Adding a temperature probe with auto on/off might be a good idea.

    Can I use the Crucial in a PS5 or PS5 Pro

    • @nicquerry3680
      @nicquerry3680 Месяц назад

      You technically CAN use it in either the PS5 or the PS5 Pro, but both of those systems are only designed to support PCIe Gen 4 SSD's. So what that means is that you CAN use a PCIe Gen 5 SSD, which both the Crucial T700 & T705 are, but they will only operate at PCIe Gen 4 speeds. So while possible, it would just be a waste of money. I'd go with either the WD_BLACK SN850X or the Samsung 990 PRO. Both have either a 1TB, 2TB, 4TB, or 8TB version with the 2TB versions being the fastest. Lastly, with whichever size you end up choosing, make sure you buy the version that comes with a heatsink. It'll cost a little extra, but if you use the version without a heatsink the SSD will run too hot and you won't be able to hit the read/write speeds that are advertised for each respective SSD.

    In CrystalDiskMark, the random reads, in the inferior section, are complete trash!
    That graph shows us how bad 3-bit TLC NAND really is!
    Everything else is just "smoke & mirrors", meaning that it's just the 4GB LPDDR4 cache & the SLC cache that are pumping those big numbers out on the chart.

    I just got the same drive, but 2TB and installed on my Strix X670E-E which has the native motherboard heatsink and during similar test and also running HDSentinel Self-test which hammering the drive, temperature does not exceed 62C. I have Lian Li Air mini with NH-U12A chromax, 2x front Noctua NF-A12x25 chromax as an intake and NF-12x25 chromax exhaust an all of the fans are running at their minimum speed (495RPM) for silence, and it is dead silent yet keeping my 7950X nice and cool.
    You have AIO and that is a problem, at least for the drive. Unlike air cooler directs some of the GPU and nearby components heat out to the exhaust, around your AIO is accumulation of heat from drive, GPU so when you saying you have OK airflow, sorry, but you don't, not even in the slightest. You have exhaust that takes warm air out, but where is the air coming in reaching your drives heatsink and with open side panel, even if you panel was closed, nothing pushing air across your board, there is nothing directing even slightest air on that heatsink and that is a big no no.
