Famed director Budd Boetticher turns in his spurs for a pair of gats to tell the tale of the infamous "Clay Pigeon," Legs Diamond, so dubbed because of the sheer number of gangland shootouts that the criminal survived. The film, an early selection of the world famous Telluride Film Festival, plays as nothing less than a classic Warner Bros. 'Gangster' picture, but was made in 1960! Ray Danton's ruthless but compelling performance as Legs effectively ushered in the era of the anti-hero for sixties American film. Dyan Cannon makes her screen debut. This remastered edition - created from the original camera negative - is presented on home video in the correct aspect ratio for the first time.
    Directed By Budd Boetticher
Starring Ray Danton, Karen Steele, Elaine Stewart

This is a very good film , I saw it a long time ago and was just on TCM and this Dude was all ego and used street and Army tactics taking a bite out of the gangs . Also co stars Warren Oates . If You liked 83' Scarface , you will enjoy this .

An excellent gangster movie from the early 60s. This movie introduced me to Elaine Stewart - there’s just something about her - and includes a ton of fine performances by other faces, including Warren Oates.

"RAY DANTON: The Epitome of Cool" is the title of Joseph Fusco's biography/career retrospective of the remarkably handsome actor (book available on Amazon). Despite Danton's dashing looks, he never quite made it out of the 2nd-tier of up-and-coming leading men. Film critics point to "The Rise and Fall of Legs Diamond" (1960) as his finest hour. I like his 60s Eurospy James Bond-rip off flicks like "Secret Agent Super Dragon" (1966) and "Code Name: Jaquar" (1965).

Legs's fortune was tied to his very powerful mentor Arnold Rothstein, after Rothstein's death his other business proteges Luciano, Lansky, Buchalter, Schultz forced him out of the rackets.
