Marion Kiki Roberts changed her name and moved to Southern California where she quietly lived out her life on Camile st. in Santa Ana. I remember her as the old woman next door where I grew up. She passed away on 02/14/1979. She was living under the name of Lula M. Jeffers and married to Laury Jeffers, a retired marine corp major who was stationed at El Toro Marine Air Base. They are both buried at Arlington National Cemetery. I will always remember her kindness and generosity as a teenager growing up. She paid me well to mow and maintain her yard. When I was 16 years old she gave me my first car. It belonged to her husband who had passed. She was always mysterious about her past and never talked about herself, like someone with a lot of secrets. I didn't know her true identity until long after her death. He husband Laury Jeffers, I suspect was really August J. Savarese, also known as Joseph Bud Ross, though I can't say for certain.

The latest photos of kiki at an older age is very recognizable, I know my neighbor Lula was involved in NY bootlegging back in the day. She had some friends from the old days that used to come and visit. My mother got acquainted with some of them and one of them spilled the beans one day and told my mother that Lula was the girlfriend of a famous NY gangster, but she wouldn't name him. My sister that did her own research and shared in this belief that she was kiki. She recalled Lula showing her photo albums of her glamorous show days and her fancy clothes. She was a real fine dresser. There was also a time when my sister was a child, Lula gave her a ukulele for her birthday. Lula then played it for us all in our living room and played it like a pro. It's well known that kiki had a passion for the ukulele. I also recall that Lula had a daughter, but she was raised by someone else. I remember her daughter use to come and visit about once a year as a child and my sister used to play with her. I believe she was mildly retarded. This would be in the 1950's. There was one close friend that often used to come and visit lula and her husband quite often. My parents always told me he was a friend from the old prohibition days. His name was Larry Darner. He served in the marine corps with lula's husband, but he was also Lula's friend from the bootlegging business. In my research, I never could place him. Maybe like others, he changed his name.
The woman Mario Moreno cantinflas was having an affair with was not Marion kiki Roberts. It must have been another woman of the same name. I saw her photo and it doesn't look at all like kiki. Also, kiki Roberts would have been 51 years old when that child (a boy) was born. In the story of Mario Moreno, it states it was a young woman that bore the child.
