Apparently he used his groom to run up and down the hill with his wing at Brompton, absolutely exhausted, the groom asked for more money, non was forthcoming so the groom left his employment. Caley had a device fastened to his bannister with weight s and a pulley system driving the wing so he could observe and calculate the best wing shape and angle. The lift is created by air passing over the top of the wing, not underneath. Great video, thank you
I always like learning about science and it was very interesting and cool to hear how someone from Yorkshire helped contribute to the design of modern aeroplanes (also I like the reference to Monty Python too haha 😂)! 🙏
Coincidentally, a similar progression for invention is happening in the PEV industry with with electric scooters/PEVs. Overall, it's quite fascinating how far we've come!
I kind of hate that when people talk about the first flights, almost nobody mentions the Montgolfier brothers. I know that balloons are not considered to be that exciting, but these were the men who truly shattered the boundaries of gravity for the first time. And what's more, their discovery prompted a wave of innovators, daredevils, discoveries and spectacles that even after the invention of airplanes were still only possible in balloons.
Well done. Sir George, just like you, is an under appreciated genius. Keep up the good work.
George Caley also invented the wire spoked wheel, as a weight saving design.
This might be how a couple of bicycle mechanics got interested in flying.
Always stimulating watching your videos. Thank you
Informative as always.
The Wright brothers were aware of Cayley's work and impressed by the accuracy of it.
NO ONE EXPECTS THE SPANISH INQUISITION! Top video. Cheers!
Thanks again. Loved your video. Keep up the good work, Jan in Texas.

Bravo. Lass. 🍺🍺🍺🍺🍺👏👏👏👏👏👏
Great historic story of Yorkshire going up in the world, leading the world into flight.

Colour film pre Wright brothers. Champion lass.
900ft is slightly longer than the wright brothers flight, why didn't they just stick an engine in this
Where did you get your inquestitioner uniform, or did you make it yourself?
Another fascinating piece of (nearly) forgotten history brought to light, thank you!
