      Probably. Denver, and more exactly Denver fans are getting desperate. But they need to relax, Kelce and/or Mahomes are overdue to moss significant time in 2024. And I say that as a KC fan. With a better supporting cast a game manager might get a win over KC this year.

      Part is also the increased focus on the quarterback, and there being more HS players who gravitate towards QB likely as players like mahomes make 10 year contracts. Just like there’s going to be less RBs as RBs lower in value. Supply and demand, but it often will take a good 4 years to come to fruition for football

      Zach is a waste of space, he will never be good anywhere in any scheme. Fields just can seem to move beyond first read or run, course with his lousy offensive lines he didn't have much choice most of the time. Mac is a mystery, he was brilliant his first season. Then BB pancaked him with Patricia and Judge in year 2. And last season he fell off the cliff and looked completely lost most of the time. I still think he can be successful in a system, but he has to have weapons and he has to find his confidence again. Zach isn't worth any draft pick, Fields is probably only going to draw a 2nd round cost at best. Mac might fetch a 4th or 5th to a team with the right system. All three will be somewhere else this season. WIll be interesting to see how it goes. I didn't talk about Lance, he just isn't worth talking about.

    I live in Lubbock and watched Mahomes in all but 3 Texas Tech home games. His college winning percentage is barely above .500 but if you saw him play live you knew the hype was real.
    Lots of similarities with Caleb Williams. Lincoln Riley was Kliff Kingsbury’s backup QB in college. Riley is probably a better overall coach but don’t be fooled into thinking the USC logo means they’re a good football team. Williams is single-handedly responsible for half of those wins. Hopefully he ends up in a good situation with an NFC team and we get a few badass Super Bowl matchups out of it.

      It looks like Stroud may be the next generational talent provided he avoids injury and it's absurd for anybody to expect to capture that lightening in a bottle again. There are plenty of HOF QBs that only showed flashes of how good they would be their rookie year the same as Bryce did last year. Troy Aikman didn't win a single game his first year for example but I do remember a game against Arizona where he set a then rookie QB passing record. Problem with Bryce is that the team mortgaged it's future (and his) to get him when they didn't have any talent around him. The move Carolina made was the one you make when you think you are only a QB away not the one you make when you need to replace half your offense and pretty much all of your O Line. Going back to Aikman, half the O-Line that would become the legendary great wall was already in Dallas when Troy arrived, so was Michael Irvin and Emmitt would arrive in his second year so the jump from 1-15 to fighting for a wild card spot in the last couple of weeks of the season (they missed it that year unfortunately) wasn't completely out of left field. For Carolina to make that jump they'd have to have the best free agent signing period in the last two decades. Chicago on the other hand.... well they aren't nearly as terrible as their recent record might indicate based on the players they have on hand. Who TF knows what will become of Washington though. I mean I don't expect much out of Dan Quinn given that I lived in Atlanta for two decades Beyond that the next team I think that has the best chance to make a big leap forward with a chance of nabbing one of these QBs is the Raiders. I'm pretty sure Atlanta could to but I'd be surprised if they bet the farm to move up high enough to nab one of the top 3 or 4 QBs in this draft. Actually I'd prefer they didn't since they've managed to screw so many of those kind of decisions up over the years.

I’m the end I believe Chuck Noll decided Dan needed to play away from his home but said good things about Marino to Noll’s mentor/colleague, Don Shula. I don’t care what anyone would’ve said about Dan, if I was in charge of drafting on an NFL team & Elway was off the board I’d be taking Dan the Man.

      @cobbler88 Месяц назад +1

      @@r.williamcomm7693 Yep. But the rumor mill was more important back then, and the PR problems would have been much larger than today as well. A couple of the choices between Elway and Marino weren't necessarily bad at the time. Once you get to Ken O'Brien, though ...
      It's also worth noting for the younger people reading these posts that college QBs didn't usually have the gaudy numbers then that they do today. Stats-wise, there was likely not a great deal of difference among a bunch of the players.
      But I'm with you. You didn't really hear much about Eason. O'Brien, or even Kelly back then. You MAYBE heard a little of Blackledge, but you definitely heard about Marino and Elway. There's a reason.

    • @r.williamcomm7693
      @r.williamcomm7693 Месяц назад

      @@cobbler88 Yes! Very well said friend! I was fortunate to have access to Penn State tickets in 1979-82. Blackledge was the QB for Penn State & his backup transferred to WVU in 1980 at the end of the 1979 season. The backup was Jeff Hostetler. My friends & family all loved Penn State & Coach JoPa always made sure to have plenty of local talent.
      So for me to say that I though Marino was better than Blackledge as a middle school kid, was sometimes taking on an argument that I didn’t know how to defend with stats. But at the end of Marino & Blackledge’s junior season of 1981, Marino’ Panthers played Georgia in the Sugar Bowl (Jan ‘82). I was genius for about one week because Dan threw the famous Tad pass at the end to beat Georgia.
      Of course in the 1982 season I took LOTS of flak because Penn State won the Natty. That season I attended the famous Nebraska at Penn State game that was won with what looked to me like hell from the refs. 😂 Marino even had a bad day against Penn State that year and of course, Todd Blackledge was drafted by the Chiefs, much higher than Marino. So I was back to being told that I was a traitor to the blue and white and I knew nothing about quarterbacks.
      My name was mud until about half way through the 1983 season but even then I was told it was beginner’s luck and that teams will be ready to kick the crap out of Marino next season (1984)!
      Of course I was in the next grade up which seemed like an eternity back then before Dan took the field. That’s when I learned how treacherous people and especially know it all adults can be. Suddenly they had always been fans of Dan Marino & knew that he was an ace the whole time but they just couldn’t bring themselves to speak against a good Christian man, Todd Blackledge. 😂.
      Of course all these years later I can see why no one had to believe with anyone else was saying. Stats were in the newspaper each week, or at the library or there were articles in Sports Illustrated. The truth is that I’m not qualified to grade an NFL quarterback now, so I surely didn’t know what I was seeing as a teenager. The truth is that Moreno just had that special presence on the field, even during the plays, with that release & passes that with amazing velocity, that only seemed to be 10-15 feet off the ground even when going deep that got there before the defense knew to look. The other QBs threw higher, slower passes. So to me Marino was just different than any college QB when I was just starting to learn more about the game. Dan Marino’s passes seemed more like they were shot out of a cannon attached to his shoulder instead of multiple players being able to get under it like a punt. I didn’t have exposure to a lot of QBs like today. It was just a matter of watching mainly Penn State & Pitt games on TV so o saw opponent QBs plus the bowl games.
      I had never seen John Elway play in college except on highlights shows. But his very first start in the NFL regular season was against the Pittsburgh Steelers so Elway got to meet Jack Lambert & company in his very first start where he was sacked four times and was pulled before the end of the game. Of course Denver still won. 😂 sorry this is so long I kind of got carried away with my memories. Good luck this season.🍀👍

      @@r.williamcomm7693 I was in State College for four years as a member of the media. One thing about all that local talent is the never-mentioned fact that Penn State was really the only national program in that entire region for most of Paterno's reign. He basically had about the entire state up north to Canada, all the way to the Atlantic and dipping down into the Virginias until Va Tech rose to prominence. And with the ability to cherry-pick his schedule up until joining the B10, you start wondering why he didn't win more titles than he did. They were kind of like Nebraska, only with a heck of a lot more people to draw from.
      Of course, "modern" recruiting kind of paints that as sort of a black hole as far as football talent is concerned, for whatever reason, and maybe that was the case back then as well.
      I'm more familiar with the statistical stuff because I did a deep dive into Warren Moon awhile back. You get tired of the lies that he wasn't drafted by the NFL because he was black. He had a great bowl game, but his stats weren't exactly great even by the day's standards. Still, there were teams interested in him. Some wanted him to consider changing positions, while others did not. Teams were ready to take him as a QB in the mid to late rounds, but he flinched and signed a deal with the CFL BEFORE the NFL draft. At that point, who's going to draft you?
      Sorry for the tangent. I do have to say I know too much about Penn State football to ever root for them, but I've supported some of the other programs over the years. Maybe I'll make it back again someday.
      Take care.

    The reason people hate on old QBs entering the NFL is because they generally didn't do well until they were 21-22 year old men beating up on 18-19 year olds. If they were playing like Williams or Maye their first few seasons, they would already have been drafted.

    • @cobbler88
      @cobbler88 Месяц назад

      Nah. They "hate" on them because if they are there that long, it's usually because they're the kind of pocket guys the NFL keeps discouraging teams from drafting with all the rule changes, etc. These last years don't really count because of the extra "Covid year" a lot of players got. We'll see in a couple of years how many older QBs are getting drafted in the early rounds.

    Penix is gonna make some gm look like a genius. Already reads defenses at an advanced level pre and post snap, great pocket presence and timing, understands how to use leverage to give his receivers favorable situations and protect the football (and has the elite ball placement necessary to do it). His mechanics are a little wonky but to me that's like Tyrese Haliburton's jumper, if it ain't broke don't fix it.

    Tebow had less problems reading defenses than he did with his throwing motion. The reason he had issues with getting the ball out fast enough to make the closing windows a QB must make to be successful. Watch his film. His levers are really long and he drops the ball way down below his waist, almost to his thigh.

    Age thing is because of development. NFL wants to see if theyll improve even more in the pros.
    21 - You're not done developing, if youre this good already imagine what you could be with a couple seasons of NFL coaching, training plan.
    24 - You're probably done developing. What we see is what were gonna get and if we like it just as much as the 21 year old? You're probably lower on the draft board.

    Young getting drafted 1/1 last year to a team where nothing was really in place is a cautionary tale for them. You draft the QB when he is the last piece to your puzzle. Besides we have Mac for one more year on the cheap.
