Earthquakes don’t kill people, it’s the falling buildings that do. It’s so very tragic that virtually all of these deaths were preventable - over 40,000 known dead to date and the fatality count continues to climb. With every day that goes by, fewer and fewer trapped survivors will be rescued, it’s now been over 10 days since the quake. It devastates me to think of the suffering of the people enduring weeks of being trapped under rubble, cold, thirsty and in pain, praying and hoping desperately for rescue, only to die at last, it’s beyond horrible. Turkey has to get serious now about developing seismically-safe building codes, and especially, enforcing them. There will be a lot of rebuilding, this is Turkey’s chance to get it right this time, cost be hanged. Saving lives in case of earthquake, fire, etc., should be the first priority in designing and constructing every single building. If money is tight, just build more slowly, don’t cut corners. I hope my country and others will send aid to help in the rebuilding. I’m praying for the people of this region, God goes by a different name to me, but there is only one of Him, after all, He will hear us.
As a engineering student i notice their crumbled buildings that it was lack of support beams & iron skeleton framings, I don't know if they made it cheap or they were too over confident that it was strong just because they haven't hit by a hard earthquake before. LASTLY the buildings & houses were made from bricks instead of hollow blocks.

I am glad you are reporting on this natural devastation and give the shallow war and human deliberate killings a break. We should learn from these disasters yet we never do. So sad for the innocent ones who lost their lives in this horrifying earthquake.
This is not a natural disaster. It is criminally negligent behaviour by the officials responsible for enforcing building standards in an earthquake zone and should be recognized for what it is.

So sad for all especially those who did not get help in those first few important days when more would have been saved. From B.C. Canada.
Bringing heavy machinery isn't the point. The point is all the buildings were built without the standard to tolerate earthquakes because of the serious corruption. Turkey is an earthquake country and with the corruption and the government neglecting its people's safety such huge number of deaths is unavoidable.
yes also i learned that base also very important, they built some new apartments on areas only should be used for gree narea or farm. there is alluvial soil, that is, mixed, soft soil carried by rivers and volcanic springs in lower areas, vallies,if you wont test ground before build, like if you say next building is solid, we re 2 meters ahead, should be fine, its wrong.
I do want to mention that this is some really good reporting. I am watching this from Dodge City, Kansas USA. My heart goes out to everybody affected by this. The world is watching.
ERZIN city : 0 deaths, 0 damage, ZERO corruption. Located right in the middle of the earthquake Insane how contractors knew they were going to kill families to make money cutting corners
So many lives, is hard to even think about it, it takes the breath away. I noticed a lot of those buildings used very small diameter rebar including supporting columns and not very densely packed, a lot of walls were just fill in with bricks and concrete which stands no chance versus earthquake, some buildings flip over indicating weak foundations which where placed to shallow in the ground. I'm not an engineer but I seen construction sites in America, most structures are build with thick steel beams incased in concrete in that concrete rebars are way thicker and more densely packed and foundations are dag deep into the solid bedrock. Sorry to say that but engineers need to make drastic changes there, buildings shouldn't collapse on such a massive scale.
There are architects in Turkey who are unemployed. Not enough contractors are interested in earthquake retrofitting because they don't want to pay for it. Bribery and pay-offs circumvent Turkish building codes. Back in 2019 Erdogan bragged about giving contractors a pass on following building codes. Sadly, bribery and cronyism has been a way of life for a very long time in Turkey. This culture of bribery also afflicts other countries that were previously conquered by the Ottoman Empire

Months before this earthquake, the U.S. was itching for Greece & Turkiye to go to war with each other. The U.S. was supplying Greece with military hardware which Greece in violation was placing on islands just off the Turkish coast. Similar to what was done with missiles close to Russia's borders with Ukraine.
41k people dead thus far....OH. MY. GOD. My brain can't get around that. The sheer greif being projected is immense right now. WOW. Prayers for Turkey and Syria.
Footage there showed an apartment building that had fallen over rather than pancaked. That would have provided more opportunity to survive, but would have been a hard landing for people higher up in the building.
Looks like Mariopol, doesn't it? The difference is that Mariopol should still be standing. Praying for all the people suffering through these tough times.
The guy said: They didn't send heavy machinery. WHY NOT? Who are they kidding? What does one or two Excavators do? An Excavator only moves rubble from side to side. The rubble need to be REMOVED from the site completely using Bulldozers and Dump Trucks.
Job 2:11-13 talks of how Job's friends heard about his suffering and visited him "..to mourn with him and to comfort him..." [KJV]. The story shows how they were speechless for seven days. No words were enough to comfort their friend. DW's graphical coverage of the situation that befell the People of Syria and Turkey, has placed me exactly in the position of Job's friends. What can I say! What words can I use. I wonder if there are suitable words that can be used to bring comfort to these friends. But I can pray for them.
Im so sorry Turkish people have special place in my heart because you respect all living things like cats and dogs. Syrian people are suffering too much because of war. I wish this never happened.

Our hearts filled with greatfulness and thanks to OUR RESCUE HEROES FROM AROUND THE WORLD 🌎 ❤️🙏... GOD BLESS US ALL ...
It's tough to fathom all the people we're just living their lives as we all do before their entire world's collapsed. The prayers of millions of us go to all of these survivors and pray for help in the aftermath.
It's amazing the power of an earthquake and the numbers of people who passed within minutes. I think this could happen anywhere.
I’m so so sorry 😢 😭😭😭😭 my condolences to each and every family’s who lose their loves ones, take a heart and keeps your head up.
41k people dead thus far....OH. MY. GOD. My brain can't get around that. The sheer greif being projected is immense right now. WOW. Prayers for Turkey and Syria.
Footage there showed an apartment building that had fallen over rather than pancaked. That would have provided more opportunity to survive, but would have been a hard landing for people higher up in the building.
more countries need to go help!!!
It's so heartbreaking. My heart goes out to everyone there. I should hope that the nations involved will make that area a no-habitation zone.
Rest in peace, all Departed souls. Speedy recovery n lots of courag- healing for those who made it alive.Mercy of God be on you...AMEEN.
I've never seen anything so terrible.praying
Where are the steel beams you expect to see in the case of the taller buildings? All I see is thin iron rods.
God bless Turkey.
Didn't God just screw over turkey?
@MSD Group false, sanctions have exemptions for humanitarian aid
