      @@hackthedmv take a right out of the parking lot, then another right onto W flamingo road until you get to durango and flamingo, then take a left onto S durango and then take a right onto peace way. Go through the school zone, and then take a right onto El capitan. Follow el capitan until you reach W desert inn and then take a right. Follow down west desert inn until you reach S cimarron and take a right onto cimarron. Go down until you reach the DMV, then go into the parking lot and park. Hope this helps! :)
      Edit: also if you happen to make another video on this route can can u put a reminder that when you reach the first school zone to yield to the children when they get to the crosswalks. I cant really remember right but im pretty sure the crosswalk is faded and the only “proof” that its where it is a sign that can be blocked depending if a car is parked infront of it and the turn into the school itself. Also parents will be very pushy if youre taking the test while school gets out, one driver drove between me and a parked car when i was stopped for the kids crossing. Also when you take a right onto el capitan there is another “school zone 25 when children present” but the road is 35 and its really hard to see some of the kids because they will come out of a side street called W rochelle at the very end of the school zone. Hopefully this helps! And just let me know if you want me to clarify anything else :)

    I have a few (not so few) questions!
    1. 6:59 when turning right on red. Is it okay to do so? And if I decide to stay stopped until it turns green, would I be docked points?
    2. For a school zone, do I only go 15 mph if I see any children present and/or the lights are flashing. and if so, do I drive the normal speed limit (35mph) if none of these conditions are present?
    3. 3:31, also I know that when both cars are met in an intersection at the same time, the car on the right goes first. However the car on the left was already there? Should the driver in this video break and let the white car go and then make the left turn?
    4. 4:23 also, say there was a car going left already and since we don’t have a stop sign. Would it be proper to yield and break until the car passed and then make a right turn?
    5. 5:04 also this is just a confirmation question, wouldn’t we be docked points or automatic fail if we did a wide right turn into the second lane to the right? Instead of turning into our right lane?
    6. 6:06 if there was a pedestrian (standing on the side) wanting to cross at the crosswalk ahead of our crosswalk in front of us. Should we stop and let them cross? Or keep going unless they’re already in the crosswalk walking.
    7. 9:58 for this wide lane, if we use our signal to move closer to the left side. Would that be alright? Also is it proper to make sure you’re more on the left side instead of the center of the lane?
    Thank you for taking your time to read my questions!

    • @hackthedmv
      @hackthedmv  Год назад +8

      Hey, we like questions. We have answers.
      1. You will not be docked points if you decided to wait until a light turns green when making a right hand turn. We suggest students only make the turn if they feel REALLY comfortable and there is no oncoming traffic. Otherwise, just wait it out.
      2. If none of the speed restrictions (conditions) are present, you can maintain normal speeds. One thing to be aware is that school zones restrictions are in effect all year long, even during the summer as some schools stay open.
      3. The white car on the left has a Stop Sign - so he needs to yield to you whether you are proceeding straight - or - turning onto their street. Also, it is important when driving to 'do what is expected' or follow the rules of the road. Don't try and be polite and wave people ahead when it is clearly not their turn.
      4. If there was a car coming towards you, who wanted to turn left in front of you, he would have to wait until you were clear of the intersection (either proceeding straight or turning right as you mentioned). Since he is turning into YOUR lane, you have the right of way. Per above, do what is expected.
      5. When turning onto a road with two lanes in your direction, it is technically OK to go wide into the second lane, as long as it is safe and the lines on the road are dashed. However if this comes up on the test I would do the conservative thing and turn into the closest lane.
      BONUS COMMENT. AT 5:39 WHEN TURNING LEFT ONTO EL CAPITAN OUR DRIVER WAS NOT IN THE DESIGNATED LEFT HAND TURN LANE. HE WOULD HAVE BEEN DOCKED. I THINK THE MARKINGS WERE FADED AND HE DIDN'T NOTICE UNTIL TOO LATE.
      6. If they are clearly looking to cross the street in a crosswalk, I would slow and even stop to permit them to cross. Kind of a judgement thing, but if they give clear indication of an intent to cross I would let them proceed.
      7. You've identified one of the biggest challenges we see with many of the streets in LV, including S. Cimarron. Often lane markings are so faded you can't tell whether it is a wide lane or 2 lanes. I think you can see in our video that our driver, after about 10 seconds, realized that it was most likely a wide lane and shifted over to the left. In that case you technically don't have to use your turn signal and shouldn't. Our suggestion is that when in doubt, align yourself to the center lane like we are at 10:09. That way it doesn't matter if it is one lane or two, you are positioned properly. Hope that makes sense.

      Nan, examiners should only give you directions, and not give you tips on driving skills. I understand your question though, as sometimes you may not encounter a speed limit sign on a road for several blocks. But typically in Vegas 35 / 45 MPH on main roads, 25 MPH in subdivisions. Please stay below the limits, but within 5 MPH of the limit as you can lose points for driving too slow.

      Some examiners will tell you what the limits are when you turn onto a street, and you haven't seen a sign yet. For residential areas, I would assume 25 MPH . For the main streets around the DMV, I would assume 35, especially if it is two lanes in your direction. Good luck and let us know how you did after the test.

    hi i have a few questions.
    1. will you be demerited if you stop at a stop sign at the line or do you have to stop before the stop sign and then inch up to the line?
    2. can you go more than 5 mph under the speed limit in residentials or will you be marked down for slow driving?
    3. if a sign says to go 15 mph when children are present and there is a group of kids do you stop going 15 when it says end school zone or just when the kids are farther behind you ?
    4. in unmarked wide single lanes, can you drift to the center without the examiner instructing you and do you turn your signal for this?

    • @hackthedmv
      @hackthedmv  Год назад +2

      1. You should come to a full and complete stop behind the white limit line which is typically right where the stop sign is. If there is no limit line, then your front bumper should be just behind where the stop sign is, or short of the cross walk if one is marked. If your view is obstructed from the left, it is fine to FIRST come to a full and complete stop behind the sign, then inch forward until you can see it is safe to go. We call this 'creep and peep'.
      2. I would keep it as close to that as possible. IE if a 25 MPH zone, I would not go much below 20 MPH unless in a school zone.
      3. Just do what the sign says. Once you are past where the kids are, you can resume your normal speed, but I would keep it checked back a little until you feel you are free of the school zone. Also, treat crossing guards as kids. If you see them standing at a cross walk, even if no kids present, best to slow to 15 MPH or whatever the signs indicate.
      4. If you are staying within your lane, just adjusting to position yourself more in the center, you do not have to signal. Signal only when changing lanes. In Vegas, many of the painted lines get faded over time, this is particularly true around the N. Decatur DMV. Become familiar with the area by looking at our videos and driving around the area.
      Thanks for the questions, good luck and please subscribe as it will help others find our channel on RUclips. Good Luck!!!!!

    • @hackthedmv
      @hackthedmv  Год назад +2

      Typically the standard is to maintain speeds below the posted limits - and - reasonable given road and traffic conditions. Seems like this examiner likes to see you keep it within 5 MPH of the posted speed. Try and keep speeds fairly consistent, not speeding up or slowing down unless required due to traffic, turns, etc. It is common for young drivers to drive too slowly, especially when they are nervous. Good luck, 3 times a charm, but don't rush your last test. Take the time to practice.

    • @hackthedmv
      @hackthedmv  Год назад +3

      Good question. You will never lose points for reacting appropriately to events on the road, driving too slow in order to maintain a safe distance from a car in front of you is the correct 'rule of the road'. You have the option to change lanes if there are 2 lanes in your direction. If you were to decide to do that I would let the examiner know just in case he wants to stay in your current lane (like maybe you need to make a turn ahead and you are in the correct lane). If a situation like that was to develop, I would simply state "I 'm planning on passing this car as he is driving well below the speed limit." Good luck!!!

      Ethan, we assume you are turning right onto Cimarron off of W Flamingo - based on our knowledge of that intersection a RH turn on a red is legal. It is possible that your friend violated one of the rules below.
      Drivers may turn right at a red light in Nevada as long as the following six conditions are true:
      - The driver is in the extreme right lane;
      - The driver displays the right-turn signal;
      - The driver comes to a complete stop prior to turning;
      - There are no traffic signs prohibiting right turns on red lights;
      - The driver has the right-of-way; and
      - It is safe to make a right turn (there is no pedestrian or motor traffic)
      - If a traffic lantern also has a right-turn arrow lens, then drivers may make a right on red only if the green arrow is illuminated.

    • @hackthedmv
      @hackthedmv  Год назад

      Hi, There is a common problem in Las Vegas where many of the lane markings (solid or dashed white lines) become faded over the years. Often it is hard to see if you are in a 2 lane or 1 lane road. In this case, the driver assumed it was a 2 lane in her direction, but after driving a little ways and not seeing a dividing line on her side of the road just cozied up to the center line. When in doubt, best to assume 1 lane and hug the center. You can also ask your driving instructor if you are still taking lessons. Best of luck.

    4. Es obligatorio que deba girar a la derecha en luz roja ? Porque me cuestiono haberme quedado detrás de la franja peatonal y mucho después girar brevemente a la derecha como para girar

      Hola, parece que te tocó un examinador 'gruñón', ya que en la mayoría de los casos, lo que hiciste no debería haber resultado en deducciones. A continuación, algunos comentarios y sugerencias.
      1. Durante el estacionamiento y la reversa, buscan que principalmente mires por encima de tu hombro. Está bien echar un vistazo a tus espejos, pero pasa la mayor parte del tiempo mirando hacia atrás.
      2. Eso es inusual. Mientras estés dentro de las líneas blancas, debería estar bien, pero los examinadores evalúan el "control del carril" al conducir, lo que significa que puedes centrar tu vehículo en tu carril. En tu caso, parece que también querían ver eso en el estacionamiento.
      3. Eso simplemente parece ridículo. Aunque deberías tener ambas manos en el volante, no debería ser una deducción ocasionalmente quitar las manos para hacer algunos ajustes. Te sugiero que quizás te ates el cabello la próxima vez y solo tengas en cuenta que están observando eso. Pero nos parece un exceso.
      4. Es opcional girar a la derecha con luz roja. Nuestro consejo es girar a la derecha solo si te sientes seguro y el camino está libre de tráfico que se acerque. Además, al girar a la derecha con luz roja, asegúrate de demostrar que estás escaneando si hay peatones en el cruce.
      Con base en tus preguntas, parece que probablemente te tocó un examinador en un mal día. Buena suerte la próxima vez y déjanos saber cómo te va en tu próximo examen. Y por favor, suscríbete a nuestro canal, ya que ayuda a que otros nos encuentren.

    Do you mind telling me what the rules are for bike lanes? When turning right do we enter the bike lane before the dotted line and making the right turn?

    • @hackthedmv
      @hackthedmv  Год назад +2

      Rule #1 is to keep a minimum of 3 feet from any bicyclists.
      When turning right you will need to enter the bike lane either when the dotted lines start - or in some cases there will be a sign indicating this. Although it may feel like you should stay in your lane all the way up to the intersection, the 'safety thinking' is that by shifting into the bike lane, you block any bikes from hitting your car while you are turning. Treat it as a lane right hand lane change, and check your mirrors and over the shoulder check before steering right into the bike lane. It is a violation to cross the solid line designating a bike lane other than under certain circumstances, like turning into an alley or driveway. Good luck.

      Depends on the signs. Typically they will say during specific hours - or - when children present. So if you do not meet those conditions you can proceed at normal speeds for that road. Remember that school zones are in effect all year, as some schools are in operation during the summer. Bottom line, just follow the instructions on the sign and you'll do great.

    • @hackthedmv
      @hackthedmv  Месяц назад +1

      This should be simple but it depends on the type of sign.
      1. If it simply says "when children present" treat it as if you see children and slow down to the restricted speed limit (usually 15 mph).
      2. If there are flashing signals for the school zone, you can proceed at normal speeds if the signs are NOT flashing.
      There is more information here but frankly, they make it hard to understand.
      nevada.public.law/statutes/nrs_484b.363. If the examiner challenges you as to why you slowed down if there was no one around simply respond "I wanted to be in compliance with NRS 484B.363" 😀

      It sounds like you know what the issue is and it should be easy for you to become familiar with your dashboard. Driving over the limit, or significantly under the limit is a critical error but easy to avoid. A few tips.
      - Be familiar with the speed limits on the main streets around the DMV.
      - Typically (but not always) main streets will be 35 MPH and residential areas 25 MPH.
      - Sometimes when you pull onto a street, you may be in a section between signs and you may not know what the limit is. Often the examiner will tell you as it's not something you would be expected to know.

      In most cases, but not all, residential areas will be marked as such. Or seeing a 25 MPH is a sign that you are entering a residential area. Hi, good catch on the Right Turn Only at 6:42. That is a little misleading, as the street markings appear to be referring to W.Desert Inn not the cross street before. It was simply to give drivers notice that if they are turning right they should be in that lane.
      WRT to right turn Cimarron at 10:00 you can see where our drivers were a little confused. It appears to be single lane, so after the turn once they realized that they shifted over to the left. You do not have to use your turn signals when aligning yourself within your lane (BUT make sure you use them if changing lanes).

      Hi, I assume you are turning right onto Twain from S. Buffalo. In that case, the speed limit is 30 MPH although when you first make the turn you are in a school zone so a 15 MPH restriction applies if there are children present.
      If you take one of the other courses, the stretch of W. Twain between S. Buffalo and Cimarron is only 25 MPH as this is a residential area.

      It is certainly OK to pass. i would only consider this when you have 2 or more lanes in your direction, and make sure you signal, check mirrors and do your over the shoulder checks. Technically if someone is driving WAY below the speed limit, it would be a safety issue for you so it can make sense to go around them.

      1. Always come to a full and complete stop just short of the white limit line.
      2. If you have adequate visibility to the left to make a RH turn, proceed when traffic is clear.
      3. If you cannot see adequately to the left, it's always permissible to "creep and peep", creep forward slowly a few feet so you can check for traffic, stop if necessary, and proceed when clear. Hi, sorry to hear that but hopefully if you spend some more time behind the wheel you will be fine next time. You may want to consider spending more time with a driving instructor and sharing with them your prior experiences and score sheets.
      In general, you should NOT exceed the speed limit, and try and stay within 5 MPH of the limit. If you go below 10 MPH of the limit you may lose points (too slow).
      There is a long list of items that they can fail you on. Here is a pretty comprehensive list from nevada drive academy.

      -Not yielding to cars making U-Turns.
      -Not yielding to pedestrians.
      -Poor attitude
      -Driving with one hand
      -Crossing the stop line or not coming to a complete stop
      -Failure to react to a hazardous condition
      -Taking the wrong lane when turning

    1. Should I drive 15mph on school zones eventhough no school/no pedestrians? Or should I maintain my speed as long as I yield? I understand the flashing yellow light means yield but I should keep my speed (if i'm not mistaken)

    Sorry, I'm so nervous.

    • @hackthedmv
      @hackthedmv  Год назад +1

      I'll answer the easy one first. The best time to reserve is between 9am and 11am. Traffic is typically lighter, and, well, examiners are probably a little fresher and less grumpy. They're human just like the rest of us.
      WRT school zones, you can proceed at normal posted speeds unless the condition for the speed restriction is present (ie flashing lights, children are present, etc.) . Be aware that even during the summer months, the school zone restrictions are enforced as a few schools remain open.
      Its natural to be nervous, pretty much everyone is. The most proactive thing you can do is spend as much time as possible on the routes near the DMV to get highly confident in all the roads, turns, etc. There may be some additional routes / maps at www.hackthedmv.com depending on which DMV you end up selected. There is a right hand turn lane into Starlight Estates, followed by a second right hand turn onto Desert Inn. Our driver missed the first one, the road markings were clear but the sign on the RH side of the road was obscured. This is a tricky situation as it is easy to assume that the road markings are for the upcoming intersection. The technically correct way to navigate the turn would be not be in the dedicated RH turn lane for the 1st turn. However given the confusing way that this is laid out I assume that the examiner would pass on this being an error, Hope this helps.
