A 90 minute programme of the highlights of Monday’s events on the river including spectacular helicopter footage of the Three Queens sailing in formation.
What a glorious event. We had the privilege of sailing on the Queen Mary 2 in 2006 on its maiden voyage from Los Angeles to Hawaii and back on a 10-day cruise. The crowds gathered on the shore were impressively large. We were all given confetti to throw overboard as the ship left the dock. This voyage was to celebrate our 25th Anniversary. Cunard arranged a ceremony for those couples celebrating their Anniversary. There was a priest on board who officiated, as well as celebrated Mass every morning in the Illuminations theatre. Ten years later we sailed on the QM2 again for our 35th from New York to the Caribbean. This was a 12-day cruise. A year later we sailed on Queen Victoria on a Med cruise from Athens visiting the Greek islands. We have one more Cunard wish list event. To sail on Queen Elizabeth on an Alaskan cruise. It was very special watching this video of The Three Queens on the Mersey, Liverpool influenced my life when I attended The University of Liverpool in the mid-1960s. Bravo Cunard and The Three Queens!
And they were not turning when they were saying they were, they were simply holding a heading that allows them to hold position well in the slow current coming down the Mersey.
'A totally unique event ' said the man from Cunard. Later on it's revealed from an email that they did this stunt in New York in 2008. Ffs why not Liverpool first? The building is still known as 'the Cunard' building. Not like New York residents give a shit but it means a lot to the folk of Merseyside.

Pity Queen Elizabeth 2 did not get her turn in sync with the other two.
