He's not even known as a drummer, and he's better then most drummers. His drumming alone is genius. He's also one of the greatest singers, song writers, synth players and harmonica players of all time. Talent like Stevie doesn't come along too often. It's more than just an extraordinary technical ability, his music is profound and beautiful. He touches people in a way few artists ever do.

+Graham Black That's exactly right. Amazing composer, amazing singer, amazing musician... plus strong business sense to gain control of his own music catalog and start his own label. He's a genius creator and innovator. If you want to know anything about music in the second half of the 20th century, you pretty much have to start with Stevie Wonder.

When you listen to the songs where Stevie plays the drums on, and didn't know that he's on the skins (thinking he's just singing and playing the keyboard), one is struck with the uncanny conversational relationship between the vocals and drums (particularly the cymbals). They sounds like they're one. And they are essentially. One mind. One vision. I love Stevie and his great lyrics and singing. So spiritual in the broadest and best sense.

    1. I'd heard and accepted Stevie Wonder was a "genius," when i first saw this video, i actually understood what that meant.

If the man never played an instrument, never wrote a song, and never produced an album, he'd still be one of the greatest singers ever recorded. There are professionals that couldn't play like this. I've been playing the drums since I was 3. By age 4 I was playing for our church. Now I'm 17 years old and still playing at churches. I've never practiced or taken a lesson. I guess I'm just naturally gifted. I thank god for that. Not to mention I'm getting paid 50 to 75 bucks a week off of playing the drums at different churches every Sunday. It's really a blessing. Then I come across this video and feel like I'm shit at those skins. I can't imagine what the actual drummer behind him was thinking. Unbelievable. Thanks again Stevie. :)

4:59-5:12 I did that when I filled in as drummer for a rock group at a parade 2 weeks ago. I didn't have any anytime to practice or rehearse. I let my instincts take over. I did good. I didn't make any mistakes. I've seen this video about 200 times. I basically have this Drum Solo memorized. Lol. I'm seventeen and I'm a die hard Stevie Wonder fan. The singer and the rest of the musicians were impressed with my "Virtuoso and prowess on the skins." I've been playing the drums since before Kindergarden. I've never practiced or taken a lesson. It's just God given talent. At one point during the performance they required me to perform a drum solo. I decided to reduplicate this Solo particular solo. I reduplicated this entire solo except the part where Stevie is murdering the bass drum at the end. LOL. For 5 minutes, all eyes were on me. When I was finished soling and cued the band in before ending the song and performance, everybody was speechless. Thank you Stevie!

I'm excited that my search is over for the original song that the band is playing at the beginning of this funky vid:
"You Can't Judge A Book By Its Cover" - off the Signed, Sealed, Delivered album. They are slowing it down and funking it out in this video, but it's definitely the bassline.
(This has taken me 6 years to ascertain.)

Who are the 74 people who did not like this? They may all be drummers.

Did I say that I didn't like it? Read my comment again. I'm talking about the people who don't like it.

Paul wells it sounds awful, but that's not the band's fault. The resolution is horrible. I don't know any drummers that would notice how good he was just tapping on the high hat right as he sat down.
There are a lot of awful drummers that I don't associate with, though.
