Nice ! I'm 57... trying watercolors for the first time. Here in Normandy our skies gave hedeaches to painters since the middle ages... the light is very particular, specially in the fall, the collors are pastel rose, light blue, light orange with beautifull shapes and mixes. I'm trying to learn how to attempt to reproduce them in watercolor but is a long road, every famous French painter gave it a try al all of them had a hard time conveing the reality this unique sky. Your video is very useful, I'll come back and check out the rest. Best regards.
Oh my! I MUST see those Normandy skies some day! No painting will ever completely capture the magnificence of reality, but we artists will never stop trying. :)
I've been painting in acrylics for a couple years now. However, I just decided to expand into the world of watercolors. Such a huge difference. I just watched your cloud video. Thanks so much for making it look so simple! Can't wait to get my paints out and do it myself!
This is perfect for my Sketchbook Challenge group monthly prompt - Skies and Clouds! I'll follow this later and will share the link in the group. Thank you!
Stepping into the world of watercolor, as I am trying to find an outlet of creativity and relaxation. What a lovely simple tutorial to teach a basic technique in cloud making. I can't wait to try and see if I am able to have any sort of success. Thanks for sharing!!! Your Clouds are really lovely!
55 today and decided to take up an art form to bakance my digital addiction! Delighted thank you. Nice and easy and jump straight into it. You got yourself a subscriber! 😎 Shame can't find a way to upload my efforts for critical evaluation. Send $$$. Worth it. Thank you
Thank you for this tutorial! I'm curious what tape you are using. It looks like it comes off so easily. I've ruined a few paintings because the tape pulls off some of the paper.
Hi Emily! Great video on painting different skies! I looked at your supply list but there wasn't any mention of the tape. I keep buying tape that rips my paper. Could you please tell me what tape you use in this video? Thanks, Nicole
I've been working on a values exercise the last three nights involving clouds. The book I use goes with #3 here, but I rather like the wet on wet demos shown a bit better, so will try them tonight. Thanks for the help and happy to subscribe to your channel! 🎨
PS: I should add that where I live, Tampa Bay, Florida, we have the most beautiful clouds I've ever seen, and like yourself, take pictures of them now and then.
I have recently been following your channel and love your tutorials. For much larger paintings for painting clouds, do you use a Size 10 or Size 12 brush? Also, if there are grey clouds in the reference photo as well as blue clouds, what paint do you recommend we use to paint the grey clouds? In such a case, do we paint the grey clouds first and then the blue clouds or the other way around?
Yes I do! Usually a 12 round. And for the dark shadows on the clouds, I usually mix some burnt sienna with the blue sky color I’m using, or I’ll mix some quin Rose with it if the shadows are more purple. You can paint them at the same time as the blue, just side by side.
Wow! Great technique !. Use to paint a lot earlier. Always found it difficult to paint the clouds. Your technique is simply brilliant ! I too collect photos to paint later Lost touch now. I love the clouds. .want to try !! This is awesome ! I have subscribed to your channel !;yeah !! ❤️💕😊👍👍👍
I am not sure what you mean by normal paper. To get the same effects, you definitely need to use cotton watercolor paper. All of the supplies I use are listed in the description. 😊
She says "You can paint loosely and expressively here, but .. check the accuracy of your values" while casually adding the shape, shadow and feeling of the clouds.. something that I find impossible. With a few strokes with a wet brush, she makes the clouds look real and three dimensional. This is where the artistry comes in. I'm not sure it can be taught.. but I am becoming pretty sure that I can't learn it even if it can.
When you go to an art store, if you go into the paper section, the covers of the booklets should say the type of paint it is best for. There are two main types of watercolour paper that I’ve heard of; cold pressed and hard pressed. And mixed media paper is also fine.
I hate my fucking mom for making me watch this, and when I accidentally clicked on an ad that transfered me to a shopping app and swiped up, she said "DONT DO THAT WHEN YOU'RE MAD"
God bless you if you see this! Remember God and Jesus love you and are waiting for you with open arms! Stop putting God aside, tomorrow isn’t promised, so start now! 🎀🌸✝️💖 I love this tutorial! Tysm for sharing!
