Welcome SCROLLERS!
Just for you: • Monty Python - People ... Развлечения
I currently wear my remote pilot license as a lanyard badge whenever flying and I've actually considered getting something like "I'm an FAA licensed remote pilot and I'm not breaking any laws" printed on the back of a jacket to wear while flying. The complete ignorance by the general public regarding drone flying is astounding. Love your channel Ken, you're a good egg!
Does the misinformed member of the public get a letter? Maybe just to let them know what they thought was illegal or a violation of regulations was in fact perfectly legal and compliant?
I'm not sure why you, the person who has done nothing wrong, needs to receive two certified letters, three emails, and several phone calls.
I do believe that "Mr. Spazzy-pants" gets a notice of how the complaint was resolved, yes. (Hopefully, that will be the end of it.)
candlstudios I agree if you get a letter saying you are within regulations & not doing wrong. The person whom complaint should get a letter also regarding the regulations and that THEY were wrong.
Martin Rodgers it should also state that if they keep lodging complaints just for the sake of lodging complaints then they’ll be charged for wasting taxpayer dollars.
One can also do records requests to get info of complaint...there is info no matter what they say. One may have to dig a bit. If they continue to make baseless complaints harassment charges or something similar can usually be filed.
candlstudios
Nope. I haven't got one yet.
J/K 😜
And here it is the Helicopters fly low here for some reason. Here the airport is 15 miles away. I should complain about that. I'm in Canada .
Just passed my Part 107 yesterday and now waiting on my certification. Thanks for mentioning that you need to re-register your bird as Part 107 on top of recreational. Looking forward to more of your drone videos 😎
“Oh look there’s a harmless law obeying drone flying next to a radio tower that isn’t even mine! Lets report it!”
That's called Getting Your Ducks in a Row. By the way, aren't you close to the Line of Totality on August 21st? We are all expecting something awesome, drone-wise.
I hear you. The little town of Marshall, MO, where my wife grew up, has dedicated an entire website to the event with special concert planned for that night and they're even charging for parking in state and county-owned parks. Take advantage of natural events every time you can, I reckon.
No its called kissing the ass of governmental beurocrats out of shear convenience.
THUMBS DOWN GUY HERE. Love the shows. Like bad comedy meets a train wreck, but i keep watching....
Thank you !
Thanks bud!
A thumbs up for you sir. 👍
Thanks Ken for having our back on this. First and foremost it is fun to freaking fly. This ole world will have people that will not understand no matter how its put to them. Thank you FAA for helping our Friend Ken out. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DANA, Best wishes for the next year.
Happy Birthday Dana.
Awesome clarification. Looking forward to my first letter. ( as long as its like yours )
HAPPY BORFDAY DANA!!!!
Thank you for sharing! Good review of the fact, and thanks for keeping this video concise and to the point, something often lost in videos of this type.
Thanks Brian!
By the way, again, Ken. What's the best way to prepare for the 107 exam? I haven't done much research on it so far. Though you might have some great insight on best practices for passing the first time. I just hope there isn't a "flying test" portion like there is with the drivers license exams.
Best place to learn for the exam: remotepilot101.com/
At first, I found your videos annoying, but you won me over. Funny and informative. Thanks for taking the time to put this all together. Great job!
Same here! Just a cheerful dude
@@alexramz1515 what about it?
Happy Birthday Dana!
hi man!
can you tell me how it is for the tourists?
is it legal to fly a drone without any permission? or we have to register somewhere?
Quick question. My regular registration just ran out the end of December which was not commercial. I'm getting my part 107 now just because it looks good once in a while I'm sure I'll take a picture something for money but only once in a while. So if I registered under commercial does that still cover me as just going out and doing pictures for fun or do I have to do something different?
Thank you please help
Hey!
I was confused about that as well. Yes, you'll need to go to the FAA's "Drone Zone" and register each drone with it's serial number. You'll get individual FAA numbers to attach. It's still just 5-bucks.
Good luck!
faadronezone.faa.gov/#/
Ok so even though I didn't take test yet I still can register under 107??
Ken, thank you for the work you do. Besides being fun to watch, your videos are educational. ALL your videos that are watched by young people, walk away a little smarter without knowing it, because of them. Whomever is complaining about you is a fool with no life. They obviously have nothing going on in there own life so they picked you and now have a cause to live for. God forbid, they complain about and fight for human rights, animal cruelty, human trafficking or any cause where there complaints may have a positive affect in this world where we all must live. NO, they picked on a man flying a toy helicopter. (sorry, I know its not a toy but for better affect I used the term). Please keep up the good work. The fool or fools that are complaining about you, hopefully will be schooled on what truly matters in this world. Will finally grow up and find something, anything where there complaints will make a difference. I will be looking for future videos from you!!! Sincerely, from a fan, Ed😎
Nice one Ken, seems you and Bruce over in NZ are getting the nerdy haters
Good for you sir !! I agree as aggravating as the FAA can be, I am glad they are there for us. All of us.
I'm from the FAA and I'm here to help. Scary words.
I posted a picture of a drone flying with a beer attached to it (DJI Phantom, that's about all I know) to my Facebook. I had someone completely lose their mind on me. They said they were going to get me thrown in jail, they were contacting the FAA, and I was being childish. This was back in July. Here's the weird part-
They must have completely and totally glossed over the fact that I was not the one flying the drone. It wasn't my drone. It wasn't my phone that took the picture. It wasn't me that took the picture. The picture wasn't taken in the USA. The drone was, obviously, also not in the USA. The picture was sent to me by someone else, in another nation, and I just posted the picture to my Facebook. And- I am telling the honest truth here (seriously, I really mean this)- up until just last week, I had never so much as touched a drone. I still haven't flown a drone that costs more than $50.
So I wonder what that complaint looked like to the FAA? It's also important to note that the person that went off on me is in his 40s and still lives at home with his mom, and mom buys everything for him.
+StaticImage Haaaaa!!
I had one of those over 40 still living at home in his mom's basement with a bunch of cats people after me as well! You have nothing to worry about. Some people just need to flex their idiot muscle. If they really tried reporting you to the FAA, I GUARANTEE nothing will happen. The FAA would have a good laugh at the idiot's expense.
Put any were you might have about this behind you and go have a nice, ice-cold beer!
What my main question is is this-
I hadn't even touched a drone at that time, so if this guy reported me (he knows me well enough to know where I live, but you'd also think he'd know well enough to know that this was from another person in another country altogether, but I digress), how would he even report it? Report it as a guy with no drone who posted a picture of something he didn't like? If so, I just hope that he got a nice reply from the FAA about how he shouldn't waste their time.
But the picture was impressive... it was taken at the very last possible second, so it doesn't show much, but it looks to me like someone tied a beer bottle to the skids on a Phantom and flew it to somebody else. I've been to the area where it was taken a few times since then, and I keep my eye out for this, hoping they'll do it again, but they never do :-(
StaticImage I think the bigger question is, why do you allow this nosy neighbor to see your FB posts? 😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 thats priceless
That must have been one of those Amazon Drones that deliver lol lol lol
Just freaking hilariously
Michael Wiedemann
You're freaking? Hilariously?
Am I understanding this correctly that now even if my drone is a little over the .55 weight for it to be registered that now I don’t have to do anything about getting it registered only as long that I am flying my drone as a hobby and nothing else is this statement correct?
great vid, I do have to ask though as of today have any of these laws changed. Can a non 107, (just someone like me that is registered as hobby only with FAA) still fly their drone there like that with no problems just for my vids and pics and not for commercial use or is only 107 allowed like that? thanks for your great vids, I enjoy them
So just to make sure, if you aren't flying for commercial purposes you're now no longer required to register yourself or your drone? Just trying to make sure because I'm not seeing that anywhere else on the net.
That's correct.
Ken Heron Awesome! After all, wouldn't want to fly an unregistered drone! 😅
Ken Heron - I understand that this has happened, but has the FAA actually acknowledged the results of the federal case yet? To my knowledge, they're just more or less ignoring it.
Do you know?
X-Jet pointed that out a month ago and I just lust looked at the FAA's web site via thedroneauthority.org/drone-regulations/ and it still says: "effective December 21, 2015 all Unmanned Aircraft Systems (Drones) are required to be registered with the FAA" and therefore I MUST register my "drone" if it weighs more than 0.55 pounds (250 grams) and cites Public Law 112-95, Section 336 - Special Rule for Model Aircraft FAA Interpretation of the Special Rule for Model Aircraft...
So I looked up who "The Drone Authority" is and learned they are no "Authority" at all and just some organization making money off scamming people by charging $25.00 to register your 251 gram drone with the FAA for 3 years. See: thedroneauthority.org/register/ Todays date is July 4th, 2017 BTW and it still says: "If you fail to register your drone, you could be subject to civil and criminal penalties, including fines of up to $250,000 and/or up to 3 years in jail."
They claim to assist drone pilots prepare for the FAA Aeronautical Knowledge Test for commercial drone operators while at the same time they still claim everyone must register with the FAA while charging money to do so showing a dishonest money making business in effect willing to lie as they have had double ample time to post the truth by now. Most people will say and do anything for money and that's not good for the RC hobby under attack. Honestly the only reason IMO you can still buy a "drone" is there is so much money involved and everyone is trying to get a piece of it.
www.onlinedroneregistration.com/recreational-drone-registration-packages Is another website doing the same scam except they offer a frickin 9 yr registration package for $36 dollars unless you pick "express" for $39.00.
www.onlinedroneregistration.com/ is yet ANOTHER FAA Drone Registration site and clearly states "Drones Over 0.55 Pounds Must Register. Takes 5 Minutes. Start Flying Today!"
www.drone-registration.net is also another FAA Online Drone Registration "service" scam but they offer a free "FAA Compliant Label with FAA Registration. Fast & Easy." Getting robbed is usually fast and easy in the right neighborhood...
The FAA obviously is aware of this ongoing scam but just to be safe in stating it I went to the FAA's own website again at registermyuas.faa.gov/ and sure enough it still says "You need to register your aircraft if it weighs between 0.55 lbs. (250 grams) and up to 55 lbs. (25 kg)" and AND Joeblow had no problem registering his fake drone until "his" credit card # was needed.
So take a good look at the people involved. "Drone Authority" and all these other FAA Registration scam web sites need to be sued and shut down as we need honest people driving where we go from here... and as much as I hate to say it that includes the FAA itself as well that is OBVIOUSLY now disobeying a Court Order and the Will of The People through their own Congress. Mind bending is a new game replacing Law and Order and the trolls in use playing with e-motion know it well after being trained in the art of deception using the symmetry of language.
F the haters let keep it up, Ken.
Thanks!
Okay I'm not sure if you got my last message just double checking then I will be taking my part 107 test in the next month or so but can I still register my drone under part 107 even though I did not take the test yet?
Thanks
Yes, you can register your drones in "The Drone Zone" at the FAA.
faadronezone.faa.gov/#/
Hi Ken! I have a question maybe you can help me! I'm from Chile and I'm going to the US in a few months and I'm planning going with my P3P (Or maybe selling it and buying with the same money a P4 there, haha) but, as a tourist do I have to register something or I can just fly as far as I do it in the propper places? (I know I can't go higher than 120meters but that's it?)
Esteban Cuevas you need to educate yourself with the airspace rules for the country you are visiting. Please read through the appropriate FARs to get the information you are looking for. You can also call a FSDO and they can help you.
Wait, there are Flight Standards District Offices??? Just another awesome way my tax dollars are hard at work. Wonder what Inspector Rocky Davidson's salary might be? Funny, but sad post, Ken. Keep up the great vids.
Donnie Baseball fsdo do alot. Espically for actual aircraft. What do you mean hard at work.??
Why are you wondering? He is a government employee, his salary is posted online.
see ... Friendly Aviation Advisors ... I work with them every day with my real job. Part 121 pilot / APD instructor. They really are there to help.
Agree... it's their Boss at the top you need to worry about.
Bwahahahahahah, that's a good one.
If I’m going to register my mavic for commercial use do I have to pay for it? or is there someway I can register it for free?
I'm afraid there's no way around it.
Hey guys I just got a Phantom 4 and I lose signal straight up at 100 feet. Anyone know why?
FAA is supposed to delete two regulations for every one added. Trump supposedly introduced this new requirement. Is the FAA following these new guidelines.
I'm still waiting for my $5 bucks back
AMEN!!! What about my certified letter of apology!?
Brian Phillips Yeah buddy!
Same, probably will never get it.
Just a random question that came to mind watching your video, Does that mean if you take flight outside of a National Park that you could fly over a national park as long as you don't land in it or walk onto it?
No. That flyover thing only applies to State Parks.
As Always love your videos.. thanks for what you do.
If you're a part 107 certificate holder you will have to re-register.. that is until a court decides that part 107 is still regulating model aircraft.. whether you are being compensated for footage or not, if you aquire the footage from a model aircraft, it is outside the scope of the FAA'a authority. they regulate Aircrafrt operations and their activities within the airspace system. They do not have the authority to regulate commerce as is pertains to model aircraft.
Great video, but I disagree with the comment at 3:48. So do the vast majority of other pilots.
Thanks for the comment.
I agree. Although there are nice people at the bottom to communicate their feelings with the public the fact remains deception and violent brute force is Natures greatest tool of change, and used together usually works well to allow the strongest and smartest to survive in a gang... just the way it is. So be careful what you believe as it's hard to fight a pack of animals when caught in the wrong place alone with something they want as other animals will always join in for some table scraps and lie about it. Hard work and intelligence creates Freedom to support Freewill, not wishful thinking people in authority can be trusted. History shows they cannot be trusted and why. Laws that create Order ONLY work when applied top to bottom... just the way it is.
Time to reset the game and let bygones be bygones without destroying buildings to start over while there is still time as those facing jail at the top will kill everyone in your family before they allow the US Legal system to work and prevail as they will lose everything and end up in jail themselves so have nothing to lose by taking you with them.
You already know this but Ken....you rock bro. Always love your videos. Absolutely love the humor. You always bring a smile and laughter to my day. Keep flying...you have always made it a point to do your best to fly safe and legally.
I appreciate the comment bud.
Happy Birthday Dana and may you have many more. Thanks Ken, for sharing your FAA letter. Very helpful in many ways. Unfortunately, you can't please all of the people all of the time.
Very true Emmett. --But I'll keep trying!
😂 the video has one dislike! Lmfao
Capitan Bastos probably the person that called and reported him to the FAA
Single Dad Sew lol true 😂
Hee Haww!~!
Yep
Got 120 now!!! Facepalm! How can these people even fly RC anything if they mistake the like/dislike buttons all the time?
Never register. #TeamFUFAA.
DISLEX fx FAA has nothing better to do then bother drone people
Donald Martim
He's a little bitter cuz he's still having trouble flying the balsawood & rubberband jobs. (Here's a tip, DISLEctard...big wings go up front).
Thank you for your Spence of Humor you put into your videos.
I know this video is a little bit old but is it still true that you don't have to register your drone at all if you're not flying for commercial reasons? I thought every drone - commercial use or not - had to have a registration number on it somehow? (Sticker, etc)
Yes, all drones must register now. faadronezone.faa.gov/#/
so if I hold a UAS cert but DONT fly under part 107 rules. do I still need to register?
Unfortunately, once you are certified, you can no longer fly as a hobbyist.
Love this channel had to sub, thanks for being informative and entertaining
Thank you for subscribing! Welcome.
Happy B-Day, Dana.... I remember when I was only 56! That was 13 years and 80 ibs ago!
The FAA is no joke! They take all matters seriously, but are truely not out to get anyone as this letter states. You were in violation of not re-registering your aircraft, but they gave you the opportunity to correct the minor infraction.
I have friends who are pilots, and ALL have made mistakes, and been caught. The FAA did not issue tickets, revoke licenses, etc, but instead they gave notice of violations and that was the end of it. Granted these violations were minor and did not pose any risk of harm to others, but still the FAA could have issued citations for the infractions.
Thank you for sharing this story as it eases the mind of drone pilots about going to jail for breaking some unknown obscure law about their drones.
Charlie Odom the FAA will revoke your license if they feel you maliciously and knowingly did something illegal. Landing on the wrong runway will warrant them giving you the phone number to call but it won’t revoke your license.
Great Info thank you Ken!
So I dont have to get any registrations or licenses to fly my Go Pro Karma since I've never been registered before?
Just saw your video...Loved it. Keep up the good work.
nice vid -- love your sense of humor....quick question how do I re-register....do I need to modify my current one...or just start over and pretend the old one does not exist ??
It's strange. I wasn't able to access my original FAA account, so I had to create a new one.
See if you can re-register using your old login and if not, just make a new one. No biggie.
Here's the link: registermyuas.faa.gov/
I love you're videos, I can see yours video 24 /7 and never get tired 🙏🙏
Thanks Joe!🤓
Happy birthday danna.. love when you are on here..
This guy's such a legend. I wonder who in their right minds could be giving the 'thumbs down'?
That's very nice of you Daniel.
Karen did it...
Dana, 56? Wow. I would have never guessed. You don't look a day over 65. Happy Birthday good sir!
If I buy a dji mavic pro now do I have to register??
Best ever! I really appreciate your amazing work ! Thank you!!
You bet Philip! Glad to help.
Happened on your videos. I'm and old balsa flyer, 30 years. Have enter multi rotor last few years. Love the camera platform.
Great videos. Your humor resonates. Stupid people are funny!! Thanks...
That's why Ken's videos are funny--oh, the irony.
Just brilliant! Love this one Ken.
Great video, big help. Educational
Happy Belated or early Birthday Dana since I am just now checking out this video. Great job Ken! The FAA keeps us all safe.
ohh man, my afternoon got so much better after watching this. Thanks!
Glad you liked it Chip!
Im from Argentina and im recreating and learning from you.. So.. Ken keep the hard work!!!
Thanks Rod, happy flying!!
great video Ken.....as always
keep up the great work...
loads of love from over the pond in the UK...
and a belated happy birthday to dana xxx
Happy Birthday Dana, thx to you and Ken for always keeping it light hearted and factual!
We are absolutely happy to do it!
Nice comments like yours motivate us to keep going.
Way to go Ken. Good to hear that the FAA are happy with your flying.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY Dana, have a great day.
it really makes me sad when people are jealous of your success and have nothing better to do than complain about you to the FAA. Such a sad world.. love the video. keep up the videos!
Thank you James!
Just curious, do you know what the actual complaint was? Was it for flying to high, flying on private property or something else? Also the letter states that it was clearly to further your business. Was that because of the mention of the fireworks display at the end or your business logo being included? I just don't get why someone would complain about that video. I watched again and I don't see anything that could be mistaken for improper. I mean if your going to complain at least pick one where there could be a problem if you didn't know all the specifics. Like that high rise apartment you filmed with the pool. Now that could have been mistaken if not for you explaining it later in the comments.
I think the complainant thought I went too high.
If you monetize your drone videos, the FAA considers that a business. Here's more: ruclips.net/video/yEHU9tO_HFQ/видео.html
This is exactly why I asked. I was not aware of this small detail. LOL
I am assuming if I do not monetize the videos I am good until I get my license?
Just as a clarification on the height rule, you are allowed a maximum of 400 feet above surface, unless you are operating near an object, then its 400 feet above the top of the object (as long as this doesn't put you into Class B-E airspace) - in this case the tower, but this applies to buildings too.
Yeah, As long as you aren't making any money, you should be fine.
So I'm a little late to game when It comes to drone piloting and stumbled across your video. Laughed so hard it hurt and gave a slight asthma attack. No worries. Definite sub.
Hey Samuel thanks!
I'm glad you found my channel.
Terrific video! QUESTION: Are the fines you refer to for unlicensed pilots or employers of unlicensed pilots federal or state law? Can you give us a link? Thanks much.
What happen that we still need to register since then?
you a re a trip! I play your videos at work, self employed. Its like watching a series. Good stuff!
So hobbyists do not have to register at all now? Is that correct? Thanks
I have a phantom 4 and am thinking about controlling it from a moving vehicle with it flying just ahead of the vehicle. The idea would be to shoot forward with the vehicle behind it while traveling down a country road. The resulting video should look like it is flying along the path of the road. Have you tried something like this? Any advice?
Dave King yes! If something goes wrong your drone will return to home point. Wherever that last was! Goodbye drone!
I have to say that you are hilarious! I love your sense of humor. I have only seen a few videos and have recently developed an interest in drones, but have yet to purchase one. I look forward to watching more! Be safe and can't wait to see your next video!
There should be repercussions similar to making false police reports for making bad complaints. The FAA should also not be harassing people for reported legal activity.
just found your channel today, glad that I did ! Thanks for sharing this info. greatly appreciated. 👍😎 I'm subscribed .
Great!
Welcome, and thanks for subscribing.
Hey Ken, absolutely LOVE your videos! Your knowledge and sense of humor make every one of them fun to watch.
On a side note, I'm interested in getting my Part 107...I've been flying drones for 5 years, and am ready to "take it to the next level", any advice on any online tutorials or classes that you'd recommend? I'd greatly appreciate it.
Keep up the great work!!!
Hey Cory!
Thanks! I'm so glad you're enjoying the channel.
RemotePilot101 has helped me greatly: remotepilot101.com/
Enter: Heron18 and get 30-percent off. --Good luck!
Your info is rocking Ken. Keep it up.
Happy Birthday Dana
This is the first I've heard of "re-registration" for commercial operators. Is this for pt 107 holders? I literally registered my bird on August 28th! Any links for more info, Ken?
Hobbyists no longer need to register, but Part 107 certificate holders need to re-register to include the aircraft serial number.
Here's a link: registermyuas.faa.gov/login?next=%2Frestricted#/organization
got it, my registration in August called for the serial so I think I'm good. Keep fighting the good fight!
Your videos leave me ☺ smiling. You have a great sense of humor!
Thanks pal.
Dana- Hope you had a good Birthday and got a break from Ken! As a local Dallas small time bass player, thanks for wearing the Bass your life... shirt. Yours gets viewed a lot more than mine does! I appreciate the clean wacky fun you guys have together- not much of that out there these days. Please continue!
Thanks John!
Being a broadcaster, I'm hyper-aware that kids have access to all sorts of inappropriate content online. That's why I keep it 'family friendly' as best as i can. Besides, if certain youtubers think they need bad language to be entertaining, they aren't very creative to begin with.
"GIMI THAT FIMI" I love your humor Bro. Dad jokes and sarcasm are my life. lol
Thanks Ken, you put the right perspective on it as always.
Thank you sir!
Ken. Can I post build videos of racing drones on my monetize channel as long as there's no flying?
Of course!
@@KenHeron thanks!
One part confuses me...you register on FAA's site and apply the same ID number to all drones/aircraft...you do not literally register each airplane and drone, right? so I'm unsure how you would "re-register" unless you check a box on the FAA's site indicating you are commercial and/or have a separate number for commercial flights. I am a AMA member but have not flown in a few years and have not registered (partly stopped flying because of the hysteria and registration requirement).
I absolutely love your videos! Happy birthday, Dana!!! We love you too.
Totally priceless, thanks drone king
Thank you for this.. You ROCK, I very new to this.. and you have taught me alot of things
Now I’m really confused. You put a graphic up that says court rules drone hobbyists don’t have to register with the FAA . I’m guessing you are referring to under 250 gram drones only ? Thanks !
I've already got a call and a letter from the FAA for flying at night. My local law enforcement reported me for flying at night in an open field not realizing that as a hobbyist I'm allowed to fly at night as long as my aircraft is properly lighted for orentation. I didn't get in trouble, but I did get reported in a FAA database.
Wow. It still astounds me how unfamiliar officials are of drone law.
5:55 Haha you crack me up with that new goggles... you also need some snorkel too ;)
A snorkel!! --I knew we'd forgotten something.
So if i wanted to put my aerial photography on youtube i have to have the commercial license?
Only if you monetize your channel.
Although the FAA might view it as "Furtherance of" your Photography business.
Watch this: ruclips.net/video/yEHU9tO_HFQ/видео.html
The comedy aspect of your videos make you stand out from the rest, makes me chuckle, keep it up fella
Much appreciated bud!
Thanks for this.
Thumbs up from a fellow drone pilot (and FAA employee!).
Hey that's awesome! Thank you!!!
Thnx for info. Thinking about getting a drone of my own.
Go for it!
Love your videos buddy. So i dont have to register my drone ? I just bought one and i just fly it to get pictures and videos of my boat when fishing. Where can i see that I don’t have to register ?
Thanks!
At the time of this video you didn't, but now you do need to register every drone over 250 grams.
